Not a chance to escape
I love me a good endurance challenge… And this looks delightfully sadistic. Easy enough to handle at first, maybe (doubtful), but after a minute or so those toes are really going to start suffering… Not to mention her arms, her waist, her jaw… This is the kind of position you just need to sit back and watch the struggles unfold. Probably why she’s been placed on a table. ;)
I wonder if she’s trying to beat a personal best.

Waiting is hard. We wait in grocery lines, in traffic, in the doctor’s office. We twiddle our thumbs, stifle our yawns, and fret inwardly in frustration. On another level, we wait for a letter that doesn’t come, for a prodigal child to return, or for a spouse to change. We wait for a child we can hold in our arms. We wait for our heart’s desire.
In Psalm 40, David says, “I waited patiently for the Lord.” The original language here suggests that David “waited and waited and waited” for God to answer his prayer. Yet as he looks back at this time of delay, he praises God. As a result, David says, God “put a new song … a hymn of praise” in his heart (40:3 niv).
“What a chapter can be written of God’s delays!” said F. B. Meyer. “It is the mystery of educating human spirits to the finest temper of which they are capable.” Through the discipline of waiting, we can develop the quieter virtues—submission, humility, patience, joyful endurance, persistence in well-doing—virtues that take the longest to learn.
What do we do when God seems to withhold our heart’s desire? He is able to help us to love and trust Him enough to accept the delay with joy and to see it as an opportunity to develop these virtues—and to praise Him. —David Roper

Waiting for God is never a waste of time.
Tumblr it’s been awhile. The last few weeks have been buuuuusssyy. But this smile is the smile of a girl who just crossed the finish line of her third half marathon in 27.5 hours. This was my first dabble in back to back endurance events and it was brilliant! It hurt, a lot, but I spent the weekend surrounded by the most wonderful people and learned just how strong I can be ❤️

“Leaving the Wreck” and “In Winter Quarters” trade cards published by J.H.Bufford’s Sons in the late 19th century. Both of these items may be found in the Charles E. Brownell Collection of Architectural and Decorative Ephemera (M439), Special Collections and Archives, James Branch Cabell Library.
With all the excitement surrounding the discovery of Ernest Shackleton’s ship “Endurance,” we thought we’d share these icy trade cards again, though we’re not certain when they were printed or what shipwreck they depict.
In January, 1915, the Endurance became trapped in ice, which began to slowly crush the wooden ship. On Oct. 27, 1915, Shackleton gave the order to abandon the Endurance, and one month later the ship sank into the Weddell Sea.
