POLAR OWNERS DID YOU KNOW THIS?! On my #PolarFlowApp I scheduled an interval run and a strength workout with a calorie goal (it’s under “quick target” or “phased target” in the “training ” category). My google calendar sent me a reminder on my phone for when I had the workout scheduled. My #PolarA360 vibrated when I had to work or rest in my intervals, AND when my heart rate was too high or too low. Then for science I set a calorie goal for the strength workout and it counted me down until I reached that goal! What a cool feature that I (the biggest fitgear geek) knew nothing about! Check it OUUUUUT Y'ALL! ‍♀️️‍♀️

“4 rounds in a row of each exercise, every minute on the minute. I adjust the reps/tempo based on my recovery and how long it takes to complete—generally a 15-20 second work period to a 40-45 sec recovery is what I aim for. For that reason, it’s important that each effort is close to max effort.

1. High catch cleans (I ended up doing 5 each side to make it challenging enough for me)
2. Goblet skater squats
3. Elevated push up to should tap
4. Alternating clean to front squat
5. Alternating staggered bent over rows
6. Dynamic goblet Cossack squats
7. Weighted jumps

Finding time to train vs MAKING time to train.

For me, the mornings are the best.

I have the most energy and I start my day on the right track.

After I train, the rest of the day is for everyone else: My family, the athletes I work with, work, etc.

I have found that for those of us who are “older” and have many responsibilities outside of work, that we have a few “Best Options” for training.

A) Early morning before your house gets going

B) On your Lunch Break

C) Immediately after work

Most people, once they get home after work, they are not training. MOST, not all.

Schedule your training and find a way to make it happen. During my busy times, 30 minutes is usually the way it works for me.

If it’s the weekend or I have more time, 45 minutes is the average training time.

MAKE IT HAPPEN.

The phrase “NOBODY CARES, WORK HARDER” rings more true than ever.

Nobody Cares is especially true.

If you’ve spent a few decades on this earth, you hopefully by now understand that it is completely up to YOU to handle your own business: Strength / Health / Fitness, Readiness / Ability to Protect Yourself / Your Family….

The list goes on and on.

If ALL you did was go through my IG or YouTube, you can gain a TON. But most will NOT. And that right there is why most people struggle. Even with things being FREE, people are still NOT doing the work.

My past few training sessions have been 2 exercises.

Front Squats + Sleds

Triplex + Push Ups

Farmer Walk + Sleds

It has been a stark reminder as to how powerful a simple training program can be.

I’d say the Zombies are coming.

Many would say they’re already here.

Slow and steady, rebuilding.

One factor hindering #strength development for #OlympicWeightlifting is always programming #strengthtraining  after #weightlifting training. The problem with this approach is that the body or a certain body part will be pre-fatigued going into strength training so it is difficult to reach a new personal best or do enough volume to stimulate adaptation. As a result, strength lifts will often stagnate which makes it difficult to improve on the #snatch and #cleanandjerk, especially if you have solid technique.

In #chineseweightlifting athletes have dedicated strength training sessions that incorporate semi-technical work or #bodybuilding afterwards so that they can increase strength but also train for power development, technique, hypertrophy. During the #mastrength wintercamp we saw a 16yo boy front #squat 170kg at 56kg before moving onward to pulls and other work.

#Bodybuilding movements are used for developing #strength in a particular area but they are also used for maintaining muscular function and balance. One movement we use heavily is the explosive DB row as demonstrated by world champion Jiang Huihua (48kg) during the #MaStrength summer camp in #China.

In #chineseweightlifting, explosive DB rows are performed to incorporate a large amount of scapular retraction and protraction along with upper body rotation. If an athlete keeps their shoulders retracted in their rows then most of the movement comes from the arm and shoulder joint which makes it very easy for the shoulder to glide forward anteriorly. Additionally, keeping the shoulders retracted limits the range of motion and prevents muscles such as the serratus anterior from receiving training. Over the long term these effects will make it difficult for the scapula to rotate upward and lift the arm overhead and can result in shoulder pain.

So when you choose your bodybuilding movements make sure to pay attention to the #strengthtraining aspects along with balance and function to stay strong and healthy.
