Even on these rainy, stormy, soggy mornings there is plenty of activity on the #farm. The #chickens don’t like it while it is coming down but they seem to enjoy all of the worms that the #rain brings.

It’s time to start getting ready for the garden. We just received the [Clyde’s Garden Planner](http://www.clydesvegetableplantingchart.com) package and we learned that we missed the first planting date for onions but that we can start lettuce indoors this week. This is going to be good.

Today our first batch of meat birds arrived. I cleaned out the old hog barn and joined two of the stalls to make the area for the Ohio brooder, which I have started calling mother. It is such a simple yet effective design. The birds can self regulate their temp by darting in and out as they need. And for 125 birds it only uses 2 125W bulbs. The last image is a peek inside - a bird’s eye view if you will.

The electricity was out for two hours right on dinner prep time as the sun was disappearing. I am glad of two things, a) I cook with gas, and b) I am married to a photographer with a suite of battery-charged flash units… And there was light, and it was good… (As was dinner).

Saturday night dinner prep and day 26 of my 28-day alcohol-free challenge. Six o'clock dinner prep was always my wine witching hour. I have resisted having even an alcohol-free beer until now because I wanted to break the connection with drinking anything! For that reason I stuck to just one AF Holsten. It was nice; crisp and dry. AF beers are low-carb that’s for sure!

Baba Ganoush. Smokey Charred Eggplant Dip. Today’s dish for 200 @fortunesociety . Like the cousin of Hummus, I gave Harlem one of my favorites variations and use of eggplant.
Charred eggplant is blended with EVOO,
Garlic, lemon, cumin, sea salt, paprika, Greek yogurt, crushed red pepper and I like to add some fresh herbs like mint + grilled lemons.
For many it was their first time having this dish and I’m glad they enjoy it as much as I do. .
