This is Robert Hakiza, an agricultural engineer, Congolese refugee & founder of a nonprofit called YARID. In 2008, he started a soccer tournament to unite refugees from different ethnic groups in Uganda.
“We wanted to try to create the same situation as before, as it used to be before the war” — people playing together regardless of their identities, he says.

Community Art
I run weekly women’s art workshops as part of my Artist in residency at Milk Cafe. We have been exploring mark making, marbling, life drawing, collage and mixed media.
Some of the women are refugees who volunteer at Milk Cafe. The cafe is a social enterprise which helps women with language skills and learning skills to help them find a job. The art workshops enable women who reside in Govanhill area and/or frequent the cafe to meet others, learn new skills and be in a supportive creative environment.
The work produced at the cafe by the women is featured in Gallery 2 at the Six Foot Gallery in Glasgow along with my own work inspired by the workshops.

So glad that I got the @the.ana.collection doll from Beit Sadu The handmade dolls tell the hidden stories of war-torn Syria by ordinary Syrian refugees caught up in conflict. Each doll carries a name of a refugee and her/his painful story. What’s meaningful about buying this doll is that part of the proceeds will go back to the refugee who helped in making the doll. Kudos to the creators of @the.ana.collection for this amazing initiative ❤️

Marines with the 2nd Marine Logistics Group have volunteered to read books to Afghan children that have arrived at Marine Corps Base Quantico during Operation Allies Welcome.
Despite thursday’s suicide bombing (three detonations, 170 civilian deaths, 13 US personnel KIA), evacuation at Kabul Airport carries on: In the past 24 hours, 35 US military flights and 54 coalition flights evacuated 12,500 people from Kabul. 105,000 people have been airlifted from the Afghan capital since August the 14th.

A 10,000-Word Law Dissertation Based On “Clueless” Is Going Viral On Twitter
“Adelaja’s dissertation focused on the United Nations 1951 Refugee Convention, a core legal document that defined key terms like “refugee” and “war criminal” as well as outlined the grounds for asylum.
“It agreed to the rights refugees would have and how refugee crises were to be handled,” she told BuzzFeed News. “My dissertation focused on whether these definitions are still relevant today and whether it works for today’s modern causes of forced migration.””

To people asking “Where is the ‘pro-life’ side fighting for Syrian refugees, immigrants, etc.”: When will you realize that “pro-lifers” view pregnancies as punishment for having sex and don’t care about lives at all? When will you learn that “Pro-Life” is and always has been as empty a political euphemism as “All Lives Matter” for which you keep falling hook, line, and sinker?
