Eeep!  I can’t believe it’s mid-September already!

I had a bunch of projects and work to attend to at the end of last month and although I had scheduled a few blog posts during that time, I failed to offer personalized replies to many of your wonderful comments (although I did leave a general message on each entry). I just wanted to let you all know that I really, reallyappreciate all the…

Like, people who identify as Queer know the word is used like a slur. Trust me, we know.

So when we say “queer is a slur” was started by terfs, maybe use some critical thinking and try to understand what we mean. That is, if you actually care about queer people and the damage terfs do, rather that just screaming “queer is a slur!” and ignoring the actual point.

Terfs did not like that queer was reclaimed. End of. This is a fact. Queer was too broad, too accepting, and embraced all the people they wanted gone. And I know y'all exclusionists feel the same but get pissed when we point it out so you deny it, but sit down and listen for a minute.

Queer was the preferred term for poc. For bisexuals. For trans people. For people with multiple identities. It neatly encapsulated everything, and was a friendly community to those who felt thrown under the bus by mainstream LGBT activism. It was a political and social statement, “you treated my like I was different and weird, and guess what? I am and that’s something to be proud of.”

So the response? “You can’t use that word. Its bad. Its a slur.”

And at the time, a lot of people rolled their eyes. Everyone knew why they didn’t like the word and brushed that off. It was fine.

So they started more subtly. “Just so you know this word is very harmful and is a slur so be careful how you use it :))) in case you didn’t know :)))) its a slur :))) friendly reminder :))) for the sake of other people of course :))))” type shit on every post involving the word, including and especially posts simply mentioning self identification.

Always worded in friendly, concerned ways, like the derailment was meant to be nice and considerate, and not about normalizing their rhetoric.

And what happened because of that was a younger generation of community kids growing up with these statements being thrown at them and absorbed on every. Single. Post. That. Mentionioned. Queer.

The result? That same generation of kids cutting it all short, removing the meant-to-be-palatable niceness, to just say “queer is a slur.”

Exactly how it was originally intended. “Queer is a slur.” People drop on posts where young queer people talk about it being a self identifier that actually fits them. “Its a slur,” they comment, with nothing else, on posts they clearly didn’t read past that word, written by people twice their age who had reclaimed it before they were even born.

Its nasty. Its disgusting. It’s plain old bigotry, whether the people saying know it or not. It is a terf tactic, plain and simple.

And no one wants to deny that it is indeed used as a slur (right along with all the rest of our identities.) No one wants to be insensitive and force it on people who haven’t reclaimed it.

But invading queer people’s posts to spit “queer is a slur” is flat out queerphobic. You do the dirty work of terfs, of cis straight oppressors, by saying in one simple sentence: “its a dirty word, there is no pride in it, you haven’t/can’t reclaim(ed) it.”

And regardless of your actual intentions, when you do this, that is EXACTLY what you are communicating and doing.

“Queer is a slur” is a terf movement. Stop fucking supporting terfs just because you want to pretend like it isn’t.

This is why I block people who say ‘Queer is a slur.’

You quack like a terf, I block you like a terf.

This thing was so weird to me when I first encountered it on tumblr, because like… in academia

queer studies

is a thing. Queer Theory is a thing. If I search my Uni’s library for ‘queer’ I get 138,481 results. Here are some of them:

  • Queer in Europe : contemporary case studies / edited by Lisa Downing and Robert Gillett.
  • Queer Phenomenology, Sexual Orientation, and Health Care Spaces: Learning From the Narratives of Queer Women and Nurses in Primary Health Care, / Cressida Heyes, Megan Dean, Lisa Goldberg.
  • Playing With Time: Gay Intergenerational Performance Work and the Productive Possibilities of Queer Temporalities / Stephen Farrier
  • Postcolonial and queer theories : intersections and essays / edited by John C. Hawley.
  • Queer Dickens : erotics, families, masculinities / Holly Furneaux.
  • Showing Your Pride: A National Survey of Queer Student Centres in Canadian Colleges and Universities / John Ecker, Jennifer Rae, Amandeep Bassi
  • Mad for Foucault : rethinking the foundations of queer theory / Lynne Huffer.

Do those look like queerphobic texts? And do you think that most of the writers writing about queer theory are straight? Lols. If you don’t want to be personally be called queer, that’s cool. You don’t get to stop other people using the word though. It’s ours now and we’re keeping it.

Did I reblog this already? If I did, doesn’t hurt to blog it again.

I usually unfollow people who use the tag (or the equilivant) q-slur.

Because fuck you, I’m queer. Have been since like 1986.

queer was mlm slang/code in the 18th and 19th centuries, turned into a slur in the 20th century

when we say it was reclaimed, we mean it was reclaimed

Just as you clean out the clutter of past seasons collections from your overstuffed closet, your heart requires you to conduct an emotional spring cleaning as well. Whether you are in a relationship, fresh out of a heart-wrenching breakup, or happily single, you owe it to yourself to clean out the clutter from past or current relationships – without doing so you won’t be able to progress romantically.

While you can dedicate a few hours (or in CC’s case, requiring an entire day) to bag up your last season’s Miu Mius, boxing and labeling your feelings “trash”, “donations”, and “keep” is not as simple. It is challenging to “throw away” your heartbreaks and placing them out of sight, out of mind comes more easily. This tactic of placing your emotions high on the top shelf only prevents natural healing and growth and does yourself a disservice.  Since you can’t exactly “donate” your ex boyfriend or girlfriend to charity (let’s face it who would want them anyway?), you can evaluate why they no longer fit into your life and how the next season will be more promising then the last. The “keep” box is an acknowledgement of the positive things you take from past relationships and what you hope to see more of in the future. Hang these thoughts at the forefront of your mind.

Your emotional detox is a decluttering of your dating and relationship experiences, allowing you the opportunity to nix the negative and draw in your ideal partner. Without analyzing how you dealt with past relationships, you will never fully understand how emotionally saturated with debris your mind and heart are. Just as last fall’s rustic cape trend is passé, as are your relationship missteps – on to a new style of…dating.

It’s that time of year again, spring cleaning! I am trying to go though all of my possessions and only keep what serves a purpose. I have trouble with sentimental attachment, the fear of needing something later, and giving away something I perceive as valuable, so I decided to create a spell to help my spring cleaning effort.

You will need:
1.White salt
2.Jar
3.White paper
4.Black pen
5.Black embroidery thread (or other black string)
6. White candle (birthday candle, tea light, etc.)
7. Scissors (maybe)

Design a sigil that matches your intent. Create a circle of protection around your space, if that is part of your practice. Light the candle and think about what it would look like to have a clean space and what it would feel like to rid yourself of all those things that no longer serve you.

Write your sigil using the black pen on the white paper. If necessary, cut the paper down to size so it will fit in your jar. Fill the jar with a tiny bit of salt. Add the sigil paper. Fill it the rest of the way with salt so that you no longer see the paper. Now say aloud or in your head:

Air, water, flame, and stone,
Set me free from things I own.
Show me which with purpose for,
Haste the rest leave out the door.

End the spell with the spell ending of your choice.

Insert the cork. Extinguish your candle as you see fit. Seal the top with the melted wax. Add a black cord so you can hang it in whatever room you are working on sorting through.

Now go sort through all your things! Hopefully you find it easier to detach yourself from the things you own so you can only keep what truly serves you and find the airy freedom that comes with an uncluttered living space.

(This spell was partly inspired by the YouTube video “How to Get Rid of Stuff” by Jenny Mustard.)

Also, fair warning, this is my very first spell!

The KonMari Method- Why I Actually Like Marie’s Method To Tidying

The KonMari Method

The KonMari Method was based on the book that Marie Kondo wrote- The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing. It explains her radical method of decluttering your home. Some of her basic ideas are as follows…

  1. Get rid of the things that don’t spark joy.
  2. Get in the mindset so that it lasts forever, and things stay clean.
  3. Tidy your whole…

great herbs for cleansing

it’s finally springtime, which for a lot of witches means lots of spring cleansing; here’s a quick little list of herbs to help you clean and cleanse your home this season!

-rosemary; great for banishing negative energies or revitalizing stale ones

-lemon balm; use this to cleanse hectic or cluttered energies from a space, restoring balance

-thyme; really useful for bringing a calm and inviting energy to your space, while getting rid of negativity

-mint; using mint really helps to bring a calm yet focused energy to a space, great for things like studying or getting errands done

-bay laurel; another great one for getting rid of negative energies in a space, can bring a comforting and light energy to a space

these herbs can be used in cleansing by creating a spray or bucket of mop water infused with your herb(s) of choice, you could burn them with proper ventilation in small bundles, drink them as a tea, etc, there’s lots of different ways to incorporate them! and remember to always be safe when sourcing your herbs :)

The trouble with Spring

So aside from the terrible allergies that I suffer every year…the trouble with Spring is the weather is actually nice enough to get the yard cleaned up. That is for me in the form of hiring people who are able to do the work I cannot.

well I have to supervise and direct. So I am staying busy today. Add in the first of the month errands and I am likely to be super busy all week. I will try to…
