Recently, I have been cleaning skulls for some friends and I am having a difficult time figuring out the best way to degrease this skull:
The nose area has quite a bit of grease on the bone and I’m not sure what the best method would be to remove it. The rest of the skull is fine, it’s just that one stubborn spot.
If anyone has any suggestions on how to remove the grease I would be very appreciative! Thank you!!
I did an abundance spell the other night, and I’ve gotten in the habit of taking pictures when I do any spellcraft since my altars are temporary only and I never get to really sit back and enjoy them for long.
all the bones are ethically sourced and all the herbs came from my garden (except the juniper which came from a neighbor’s)

this particular abundance spell is specifically to draw money in. since my only source of income is my art, this spell mostly pertains to artists, but if you’re able then please feel free to tweak it to your situation.
I usually do this spell on a Thursday or a new moon. first I create sigils for the following: I make more art, I get more attention for my art, and I make money. money does not come from nowhere, its important to be specific about how/where you get the money you’re asking for.
I carve these symbols into a candle (or 3 candles, one sigil each) and place it in a bowl of salt, mint, and basil (or any herbs available that are associated with abundance and prosperity). I also add any stones with the same associations but this isn’t necessary.
I let the candle burn down while I work on whatever ongoing project I’ve got, during this spell I was working on a pair of earrings. I visualize someone seeing these earrings and falling in love with them, and purchasing them.
and when the spell is finished, I use the leftover salt & herbs as a charging mix to place finished pieces in to imbue them with the qualities of this spell in hopes of making more sales.
Spent all summer cleaning this deer skull, there are still blobs of stubborn grease but I don’t have a set up that’ll work through the cold temps, so we’ll have to wait to address those. Regardless, all the teeth stayed, and I’m really happy with that!

so I tried to upload this about 13 times and it kept failing. if I upload just the pictures and add the caption and tags after, it works fine. I don’t think tumblr would censor us from posting stuff with the word “bones” in it but it seems like that keeps happening to me. there’s so much work I’ve done that you haven’t seen, because of how often this happens. I’m annoyed. somebody please prove me wrong, maybe it’s something else I’m overlooking
Just wanted to talk a bit about Chronic Wasting Disease, AKA “zombie deer disease”
Some people have expressed concern and I want to assure everyone that I am extremely aware of how detrimental this disease is.
-For those of you who don’t know, CWD is a prion that infects the nervous system of whitetail deer. It is very contagious and very fatal. It has been becoming more of an issue in many states as the deer populations are increasing. Also, it doesn’t make it better when people bait deer, as it normally spreads through the saliva and when there’s lots of food in one area the chance of infection increases.
-As many of my followers know, I post a lot of content about whitetail deer and cleaning deer skulls. I want to clarify that all carcasses are disposed of properly at dump stations provided by the dnr and I always make sure to clean my tools after each head.
-Something else I do to help the dnr is remove the lymph nodes of each deer and bring them to a CWD kiosk to be collected and tested for the prion. I strongly recommend anyone who cleans deer skulls to do this as it helps counties get a more accurate estimation of deer infected with CWD, while also helping the dnr implement techniques to slow the spread.
-More information should be available on your local dnr’s website and again, I strongly encourage anyone to check this out and get involved!
-Please keep in mind that to bring in your deer’s lymph nodes you’ll need to have an authorization number for the animal!
Got two button bucks and I love how different they look! One has more of a reddish hue while the other has very beautiful distinct white patches on his eyes and nose ❤️

For context, I acquired three deer heads from a friend and one of them was fresh. It had been sitting out for a few days and is now infested with maggots!! The other two are mostly mummified so have no maggots, yay!! The video isn’t included in this one because it doesn’t want to load
I’ve been blessed with some more deer skulls to clean!!! The two with the tags are mummified while the skull was a find a little while ago. I left him sitting outside for some time and nature cleaned him up pretty good!

I’m trying out a different method this time and I’ll be putting them next to an ant nest. Hopefully it works well enough to at least get some of the nasty off them. The guy that gave the two to me doesn’t want them back either so I hope to put them in the shop eventually

This big old armadillo skeleton washed up after a recent flood. Never used to have any around here but they’ve been moving further north in the last few years. Now they are all over the place!
Sadly I didn’t have anything big enough to carry him (always good to be extra cautious handling armadillo remains as they are known to carry leprosy; granted the very few cases of people contracting it from them were believed to be because they prepared and ate the armadillos but still good to be extra careful) but I’ll be heading back tomorrow to grab him if he’s still there.
