ENTJ: Legally, I won’t persecute you for your dumbass beliefs in aliens

I know I’m not a great guy, he said. But I do love you, you know. Of course I do. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you before, but I didn’t know if you wanted to hear it. I’m sorry.

I was smiling. My eyes were closed still. It felt good to be wrong about everything. Since when have you loved me? I said.

Since I met you, I would think. If I wanted to be very philosophical about it, I’d say I loved you before then.

I told him I was easily seduced by people who laughed at my jokes and he said he was easily seduced by people who were smarter than he was.

Kameelah Janan Rasheed: The Edge of Legibility | Art21 “New York Close Up”:

logo·phile | \ ˈlȯ-gə-ˌfī(-ə)l : a lover of words. A self-described “learner,” immersed in books since childhood, text-based artist Kameelah Janan Rasheed is uniquely fascinated with the written word and its power to both define and destabilize how we understand the world. Rasheed photocopies pages from books and printed materials, cuts out words and sentences, and re-arranges them in poetic, provocative, or even confusing combinations. The resulting sprawling wall collages, billboards, films and public installations encourage viewers to do the work of understanding. “It’s really an invitation,” says Rasheed, “Come think with me.” This short documentary film explores the artist’s expansive ideas and miniaturist process in her book-filled, Brooklyn home studio; the film’s exclusively close up style mirrors Rasheed’s own preoccupation with fragments, slowly building up a portrait over time.

From her studio, Rasheed sorts through stacks of childhood drawings and family photographs while recounting her father’s conversion to Islam in the early 1980s. His method of note taking, excerpting, and annotating inspired Rasheed’s own artistic practice. “I was thinking of this idea of talking back to a text,” says the artist, “Each time we read something, we’re annotating on the page or in our heads and creating a new text. It’s this act of collaboration between the reader and the writer.” At work on a new piece, Rasheed searches her books for specific shapes and styles of lettering, rather than particular words. She pieces together these fragments into longer phrases and sentences, intuitively creating combinations that code or complicate that which could be said plainly. Rather than jumping to understanding, viewers are invited to move more slowly and engage with works over and over again to create layers of meaning. For Rasheed, this approach also presents a powerful possibility for how we can publicly move through the world and create a kind of self-protection. “I think a lot about what it actually means to make myself legible,” says the artist. “How you present yourself to the world that’s legible and appealing to people, versus I’m not gonna make myself known until I’m ready.”

Convenience Store Vocabulary - 편의점 어휘

Hello everyone!! This post is based off an ask that I got recently! You may have noticed in your hometown (고향), that some convenience stores (편의점) are owned by Koreans! Sometimes, they will write things in Korean and English for their Korean and English speaking customers (and if they go the extra mile, there might be Chinese, too)! This is a good place to practice your spoken Korean with the workers / owners of the store.

If you want fruit vocabulary: Fruit Vocab - 과일 어휘 (QUIZLET)
If you want vegetable vocabulary: Veggie Vocab - 채소 어휘 (QUIZLET)
If you want shopping vocabulary:Shopping Vocab - 쇼핑 어휘(QUIZLET)

If you want to know some basic 편의점어휘, then follow along and tell me how it goes!

To start, let’s first understand the word “편의점”:
     ☆ 편 + 하다 = 편하다 - to be comfortable (adj.)
     ☆ 점 - store

Another thing you need to know is that it is VERY common to go and eat at a 편의점. Here is some vocab you’ll need to know for that:

     ☆ 젓가락 – chopsticks
☆ 라면국물 버리는 곳 – pour ramen water here
     ☆ 플라스틱 – plastic
     ☆ 쓰레기 – trash
     ☆ – can
     ☆ – bottle

But before you enter, you may see one of two signs on the door ():

  1. 한금지급기/에이티엠 - ATM
☆ 하금지급기 없음 - No ATM
  2. 고정문 - fixed door (don’t push on this, it won’t open)

With number 1, you might need to withdraw cash (예금출금), here is some small ATM vocab:

     ☆ 예금출금 – withdraw cash
☆ 카드를 넣어주십시오 – please put your card in
     ☆ (1) 만원 = 10, 000 won
          ♡ 5 만원= 50, 000 won
          ♡ 10 만원 = 100,000 won
     ☆ 명세표– invoice
     ☆ 영수증– receipt
☆ 현금 자동 지급기 – cash dispenser

Now you can buy your fave snacks / ramen! Here’s some vocab for when you’re at the cashier:

☆ 이 게/이 것이 얼마예요? – How much is this?
    ☆ 비싸다– to be expensive
    ☆ ‘X’원입니다 - it is ‘x’ won
☆ 결제 해드릴게요 – I’ll ring it up for you
☆ 넣어 드릴까요? – would you like a bag?
♡ ,넣으세요 - Yes, please bag it
♡ 아니요,그냥 들고 가겠습니다 – No, I will just carry it
☆ 영수증이 필요하세요? – do you need a receipt?
♡ ,영수증을 주세요 – yes, please give me a receipt
          ♡ 아니요,괜찮아요– No, it’s okay / I’m okay
♡ OR: you can just say, “/아니요
    ☆ 거스름돈/잔돈– change
    ☆ 또 오세요 – come again

Some food you’ll find in a 편의점: (these are just some I love! if you have some snacks that you love that aren’t on here, please write them in the comments!!)

   ☆ 삼각김밥- triangle kimbap
   ☆ 도시갈- lunchbox / bento
   ☆ 우유-  milk
         ♡ 딸기 맛 - strawberry flavour -> 딸기()우유
         ♡ 바나나- banana flavour
         ♡ 멜론 맛 - melon flavour
   ☆ 빼빼로- pepero (Korean pocky)
   ☆ 찹쌀약과- Korean sweet cake
   ☆ 꼬깔콘- corn chips
   ☆ 허니버터칩- honey butter chips
☆ 초코파이 케이크 - Choco-Pie Cake (a staple in Korean snacks)

Years ago I have written a “Rise of the Guardians” fanfiction where Jack meets the Spirit of Death, who is an elderly Victorian woman called Morticia. All the other spirits avoid her because they are afraid of her but after having a good talk Jack finds out she’s not nearly as scary and cold-hearted as everyone claims.

The sketch was drawn early this year, but I never had the time or motivation to colour it until now.

So question - reblog this if you’ve ever made a friend - or even a relationship - here on Tumblr. I want to know how common it is. Does anybody do that?

Like - now that the Pandemic is winding down, I’m excited to meet people now and talk about shit. The lockdowns gave me a new appreciation for making connections.
