got my third shot on monday<3

chavisory:

Okay, look.

I know that the party line right now is “the vaccines don’t keep you from getting COVID, they keep you from getting seriously sick or dying.”

And yes, I’m in favor of not getting seriously sick or dying. I’d take a vaccine just for that. Like I get the flu vaccine every year even though some years it’s had an efficacy rate of like 10%. I’ll take a free 10% reduced chance of getting the flu.

But if there is anyone, anyone at all, reading this who hasn’t gotten vaccinated, for whom “well, it won’t keep me from getting it, so what’s the point” is playing any role in your decision-making…

I want you to know that the vaccines still stand a moderate chance of helping to prevent you from getting it.

The mRNA vaccines show a significantly reduced efficacy against the omicron variant, on top of diminishing efficacy a few weeks to a few months after vaccination.

That efficacy still is not zero. It is not.

Signed someone who spent a week living in a 600 sq. ft. apartment with an infected roommate and didn’t catch it.

We tried to keep the windows cracked before the temperatures outside got way too cold, but we couldn’t avoid sharing a bathroom and kitchen or walking the same hallway, and I never caught it.

I know that right now we’re supposed to somehow simultaneously believe that we’re not supposed to just be resigned to catching it, but also that being vaccinated won’t prevent us from catching it, and that feels impossible. Because it is impossible.

But getting vaccinated can still help keep you from catching it.

“In interviews last week, several advisers to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and to the Food and Drug Administration said data show that, with the exception of adults over age 65, the vast majority of Americans are already well protected against severe illness and do not need booster shots.

“All the advisers acknowledged that they were obligated to make difficult choices, based on sparse research, in the middle of a public health emergency. But some said they felt compelled to vote for the shots because of the way the federal agencies framed the questions that they were asked to consider.”

“Biden and his team are loathe to recommend against indoor holiday gatherings for another year, mindful that Americans are growing increasingly exhausted from pandemic-related restrictions.

“So, too, are Biden and his team mindful of not signaling an end to the pandemic after prematurely declaring ‘freedom from the virus’ over the summer. A subsequent surge due to the highly contagious Delta variant caused a return of mask requirements and closures, and led many Americans to sour on how Biden was handling the crisis.

“Once a bright spot in his poll numbers, more Americans now disapprove of Biden’s handling of the pandemic (49%) than approve (47%), according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll released this week.”

“Most of the vaccinations so far in the U.S. have come from Pfizer, which developed its shot with Germany’s BioNTech, and Moderna. They have inoculated about 99 million and 68 million people, respectively. Johnson & Johnson is third with about 14 million people.

“No one knows yet how many people will get the extra shots. But Morningstar analyst Karen Andersen expects boosters alone to bring in about $26 billion in global sales next year for Pfizer and BioNTech and around $14 billion for Moderna if they are endorsed for nearly all Americans.”

“The WHO strongly opposes the widespread rollout of booster shots, asking that wealthier nations instead give extra doses to countries with minimal vaccination rates. The U.S. has already administered over 2 million third doses nationwide, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and an advisory panel to the Food and Drug Administration unanimously recommended boosters on Friday for anyone 65 and older.

“”WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Sept. 14 that most countries with under 2% vaccination coverage are in Africa, where less than 3.5% of the continent’s eligible population is fully inoculated against Covid. Africa will likely miss the WHO’s target of a 10% vaccination rate by the end of the year, Tedros added.”

Moderna accepted $2.5 billion in taxpayer money to develop its Covid-19 vaccine. But as the world faces a dire vaccine shortage, U.S. and overseas officials are having trouble persuading the company to license its technology.

A meeting of the World Trade Organization’s intellectual property council ended Thursday without action on a proposal to suspend patent rights on COVID-19 vaccines. The United Kingdom and some wealthy European Union nations, led by Germany, continue to oppose a patent waiver, which was first proposed over a year ago by India and South Africa and backed by over 100 WTO member nations. Since then, the world has recorded over 3.8 million COVID-19 deaths.

Rich nations’ refusal to take on the pharmaceutical industry could “prolong the pandemic indefinitely”

J&J rang up $502 million in sales from its COVID-19 vaccine in the third quarter after pulling in $264 million during the first half of 2021.

Global vaccination has been highly regressive. The extremely poor are also extremely poorly vaccinated. The huge inequality we currently observe is an inequity that may eventually backfire epidemiologically, socially and economically. The regressive pattern of vaccination enhances the risk of the development of more dangerous variants and by doing that it risks exacerbating the direct and indirect effects of the health emergency on social and economic outcomes either through domestic or cross-border channels.

moo…

Your daily reminder that this is in spite of having easy access to vaccines that large swathes of the world are having to wait for. Even most New Zealanders are having to wait for those things (while getting lectured about how we need to get the vaccine…thanks, I’ll go pick one off the vaccine tree) while these cunts can choose from three but chose…animal medication.

If anyone wants to know why these people think this may be a solution, this is it:

(Note: Just because I’m offering an explanation, does NOT mean I agree. Please never give yourself any medication without it being prescribed to you by a trained professional.)

Ivermectin is an anti-parasitic drug, but studies show it can be used to treat a range of viruses.
• While the COVID-19 virus is inside your body, it is not only rapidly multiplying, but also reducing your ability to fight it. This, in turn, makes the infection worse.
• The virus does this this by using cellular transport to find its way into a cell nucleus, where it uses a protein known as known as importin alpha/beta-1, to suppress the body’s antiviral response.
• However, the theory is that Ivermectin can block this transportation from occurring to begin with, or at least some of it. This would allow the body to fight the virus better, without the natural antiviral process being so inhibited.

This data is from clinical trials, most of which have only occurred in vitro. These are not certainties. These are not answers.

We do not know if Ivermectin is truly successful, or if it will be beneficial in treating COVID-19. This medication is not FDA approved for humans, and it is especially not approved for treating a novel virus.

Again, this is for informational purposes only.

day 3 of the AstraZeneca vaccine:

I feel much better than I did yesterday. I’ve got a low grade fever (which means the vaccine is working!), a mild to moderate headache (less severe than the last two days), my arm pain is wearing off - it only hurts if I touch the site or move it up in the air, I feel nauseous (I was sick once after eating but not much) and have a lack of appetite which is probably the worst symptom I’ve got right now. I feel a bit dizzy but I think that’s because I’ve barely eaten and my blood sugar tends to drop easily if I don’t eat regularly. I expect I’ll be side effect free by the end of the week.

Day 4: once again I feel better than the day before. still got mild fever, arm pain is practically gone - it just aches a little when doing certain things, I have a mild headache - my headaches have been improving with each day.

I also want to note that I took an antihistamine an hour before my vaccine and have taken one daily since. This was advised as it stops non severe allergy like side effects that others I know have gotten. If you can take antihistamines safely i would say it’s worth taking as a precaution. Over the counter meds such as paracetamol for other symptoms such as fever.

I wrote this when I woke up this morning but now it is the evening and after taking my daily meds and a few extras I feel fine. side effect free. so I’ve had 72 hours of side effects which improved after the first 35 I’d say.

The vaccine is definitely worth the side effects I’ve had. I was lucky enough that I had the next day (Sunday) to get some good rest when I felt like had the flu (a feeling that I only really had for that one day) and the previous night. Not one side effect has put me off have my second dose and I hope these posts have but other chronically ill folks, specifically those with a crappy immune system like mine, minds at ease.

If you recently tested positiveforCOVID-19, stay home for five days from the day your symptoms began. If you do not have symptoms, you should stay home for five days from the date of your positive test.

After five days, you can leave home if:

✅ You do not have symptoms

✅ OR your symptoms are improving and you have not had a fever in the last 24 hours.

After isolation, wear a well-fitting mask around others for five more days.

If you are a close contact of someone with COVID-19, this chart can help you determine if you need to quarantine.

A close contact is anyone who has been within 6 feet of a person with COVID-19 for at least 15 minutes over a 24-hour period.

“I’m not getting the vaccine because it’s my body, my choice”.

The phrase “my body, my choice” is a good argument when it comes to abortion rights and sexual consent. That is a choice that will only affect either solely your body (in abortion’s case) or you and your willing partner(s).

But vaccines are not the same thing.

Saying “my body, my choice” as an excuse not to get vaccinated fuels the false assumption that getting vaccinated is only to protect yourself. It’s the assumption that it’s okay to not get the vaccine because you think you’ll be okay not taking it.

The truth is, the vaccine is meant to protect both yourself AND the people around you. Maybe you’ll be fine without it. But what if you spread it to someone who won’t be?

As life slowly goes back to normal, you’re gonna come into contact with people. It’s inevitable. Without the vaccine you could contact and unknowingly spread it to another.

Maybe it is your body, your choice. But you’re also taking away someone else’s choice not to get sick.

Purposely not getting the vaccine is an act of selfishness.

(Anti vax and pro life people don’t fucking clown on this post )

Hi everyone!

This is just a post I wanted to make about the COVID-19 vaccine, although many of you likely have gotten it yourselves or know the details already.

Today my love and I got our first doses of the Pfizer vaccine. The injection itself was almost completely unnoticeable (I turned my head away so I wouldn’t panic) and it was over in seconds; no slow administration. I am someone who is extremely sensitive and has a nonexistent pain tolerance, and needles aren’t exactly my favorite thing. If you’re scared of getting it because of that, just know that it is done quickly, and that getting the vaccine is way less painful that actualy having COVID-19.

It’s been about 10 hours since we got it, and we both have sore arms. My shoulder and back feel affected too, but it’s mostly the muscle at the injection site. I took a half of a Tylenol 3 hours after the injection and then the second half about 15 minutes ago. The discomfort and aching is for a very worthwhile cause, so it’s fine~

If and when you are able to be vaccinated, please do so to protect those around you who are immunocompromised and/or unvaccinated. It is free, provided by the government. Your insurance will cover all administration fees. If you don’t have health insurance, you will not have to pay an administration fee yourself, as there is a Provider Relief Fund that compensates medical facilities for those who are unable to pay, just to make sure everyone has an equal chance to get it.

There is skepticism regarding the vaccine, and it is understandable to a degree; it is not formally FDA approved. However, you should consider the fact that the vaccine would not be allowed to go public if there were severe, common side effects. There has been news about the Johnson & Johnson vaccine causing blood clots (still in rare cases, but more frequently than other manufacturer’s). I could be wrong, but the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are the most common, and that J&J has been temporarily put on hold. You do not have to get the J&J vaccine, and you can most likely find a clinic that uses Pfizer and Moderna instead.

Overall, the future is looking brighter on a global scale. Once most people are vaccinated, things can start moving forward again without the restrictions we have had for the last year or so. Please do your part for this future by getting your vaccine!

With love,

Lily

science tumblr want to let me know if i’ll test positive for covid (the rapid test) regardless if i’ve gotten the first dose of the vaccine?

Quick and easy. Feels like I’ve been punched in the arm, and I’ve been pretty tired since. So happy to see the light at the end of this long tunnel!

Does that make sense to anyone, or does it sound as retarded as I think it does? Why are people gett

Does that make sense to anyone, or does it sound as retarded as I think it does? Why are people getting sick or even dying to protect themselves from a pandemic that has a 99% survival rate? That is just insanity!

I’m choosing to continue staying indoors. I’m not going to movie theatres, or malls, or anywhere with crowds rather than put that untested, corner cut, experimental shit in my body. I’m not getting any of the vaccines. None. That “My body, my choice” saying counts for more than just abortions.

I’m treating these vaccines like I would a new version of windows. I’d rather let the lemmings go first, and wait for the bugs/errors to be worked out before even considering getting it. How is everyone going to feel when one of those companies says “sorry for the cancer” before hiding behind their liability shield and count their profits while people die from the side effects they never properly tested for?

Not me. I’d rather stay in isolation and keep to myself. Since I work from home, I can get away with keeping a tight circle. It’s worked for me so far, and I’ll keep doing this since I have no choice. If you want to get the vaccine, knock yourself out, but i would inform yourself about it before doing it.

COVID is slowly becoming a “third world” disease. While first world countries are hoarding vaccines, having doses for populations many times their size, third world countries can’t get any because pharma companies want to sell to the first world countries first. Even then, first world countries will receive them first. While rich countries recover from COVID, they will forget about the pandemic while many other countries live the absolute worst moment of the pandemic without being able to vaccinate their population.

Watch also when some first world countries finish vaccinating their populations, they will turn to third world countries and “donate” or sell surplus vaccines. People in these countries will go “Oh how sweet! The government is donating vaccines to the poorer countries <3” when it was their hoarding that led to many, many third world citizens dying before they could even get vaccinated in the first place.

african and latin american countries are also pushed by pfizer to give up sovereign assets as part of their vaccine agreement

Yo europeans, sign the fucking petition, get the european commission to lift the patents

This is not a bullshit useless change dot org petition by the way this is an actual thing with legal consequences. If this petition gets to a million signatures, the european commission HAS to examine it.

They need not only a million signatures but to pass thresholds in at least seven member states - which only Belgium has done so so far. Especially if you have Italian, Irish, or Cypriot citizenship, please sign. Sign it in general, but try to circulate if you can to anyone with those nationalities specifically.

231,195 / 1,000,000 signatures as of 10/28/21

237,730  /  1,000,000  signatures as of 11/28/21 and the Signatory Deadline(it has to be signed by this date) is January 8th, 2022.

PLEASE sign, especially if you’re from one of the countries that has not reached it’s threshold. (France, Sweden, Greece, Germany, The Netherlands, Austria…basically every country except Italy and Belgium)

image

Minimum thresholds must be met in at least five more countries in addition to the 1,000,000 signatures requirement.

The countries closest to reaching their minimum threshold are Ireland(89% of required signatures), France(75%),The Netherlands(75%),Spain (69%), and Cyprus (46%). If you or anyone you know have citizenship in these countries, please sign it, encourage them to sign it, and pass it forward.

If the requirements are met, the European Commission will be forced to examine this and take legal action. Real change is a possibility if enough signatures are collected.

Spread this.

Biden is actually asking for an IP waiver for the vaccine in the US in order to ship it out, as well. Good time to write to your reps if you’re American.

Just wanted to add that if (like me) you have citizenship in an EU country but reside outside the EU, YOU CAN STILL SIGN

Currently only Belgium and Italy have passed the threshold. Put that dual citizenship to good use if you can!

A PSA for anyone getting the Covid vaccine, just so you know what to expect, some people experience no side effects, but it’s also not uncommon for people to feel like they have cold/flu-like symptoms for a day or two after getting the vaccine. For most people the symptoms are slightly worse after the second shot. The hospital I work at is recommending that employees get the vaccine the day before they have a day or two off. They have provided some extra PTO days in part because of this. I took a day off after each shot and was glad I did. This should not discourage anyone from getting the vaccine, but is just information to keep in mind when scheduling you or your loved ones vaccines. I highly recommend OTC pain relievers like Tylenol, Advil, or their generics. Tylenol relieved all of my symptoms. There’s no prize for toughing it out, just take them and they will make it so much easier.

For me, I got my first shot in the morning and about 14 hours later I started to feel muscle aches and pains, especially in my neck. I went to bed and then woke up feeling worse; headache, lightheadedness, a temp of 99.2 (higher than normal, but not technically a fever), and worse muscle aches and pains. I started taking Tylenol and I felt much better. The symptoms lasted for about 24 hrs. After my second shot, I felt symptoms much faster, about 6 hrs after the shot, I kept up with the Tylenol a little more aggressively this time and it kept the symptoms at bay, still wouldn’t have wanted to run a 5k or give a big work presentation or anything. Over all I would say the symptoms last about 36 hrs.

And I feel like I have to put this in here, just in case it crosses people’s minds, “What’s the point of getting the vaccine if it’s just going to make you sick?” You may feel sick, but you are not infected. You feel sick because the vaccine has “tricked” your immune system into thinking you are infected so that it starts to produce antibodies, but you are not actually infected. The symptoms from the vaccine last a day or two. In contrast Covid can last for weeks or months. The symptoms from the vaccine will not land you in the hospital or, more importantly, the morgue like Covid can. Also, you won’t be able to transmit the virus or the symptoms to anyone around you.

Hopefully being informed can lead to us all making smart choices that help us get out of this pandemic as soon as possible.

I think we all know at least a few people who need to hear this perspective

This is basically exactly what happened to my wife after her second shot. It’s normal, it’s fine, get your shots anyway!

FYI it is literally impossible for the vaccines to infect you with covid. The vaccine has no viral particles in it, only mRNA. The types of vaccines that have a risk (usually negligibly small risk for the ones that make it to market) are made of viral particles that have been rendered harmless. This vaccine is not one of those vaccines. There is no covid virus, dead or otherwise, in the vaccine. The reactions described above are just your immune system figuring out how to make antibodies that will kill covid.

Happy birthday to me!!!!

Happy birthday to me!!!!

Ok I know vaccine waits are long but have y’all checked out hidrb.com ? It’s for the states (sorry rest of the world) and puts you on a list to get one of the covid shots if another patient in your area can’t get theirs the day they’re scheduled for it. I haven’t looked very deeply into the site, just gave it a quick look, but it seems pretty straightforward. Just an FYI to try and help out people
