How Covid 19 brought out my Kitchen Witchery and Healing Powers.

Me and my husband are on day 8 of isolation. The dreaded delta variant entered my home on Sept 11th 2021. It affected me like the common cold but my husband has moderate covid that can quickly turn severe. He couldn’t breathe he wouldn’t eat and he could barely stay awake for more then a few hours. His fever was 103 for 5 days and I’m happy to report today is the first day he didn’t need medication to bring down his fever. I thought I would share some of the Kitchen Witchery and Healing potions and herbs that my ancestors whispered in my ear in my moments of high desperation and anxiety.

Healing Teas

#1 Lemon and Ginger with a bit of Honey

#2 Rosehips, Elderberries, Cinnamon and Orange Peel

#3 Green tea with Eucalyptus Leaves

Inhalation Steam Therapies

For this you will need a pot and bring the ingredients to a boil cover the person with a towel over their head to avoid letting the steam out and let them breathe interchangeably through the mouth and nose for 10 to 15 minutes. Do this 3 times a day being careful not to burn yourself.

Method #1 bring to a boil 2 cubes of camphor you can also add vicks vapor rub if you don’t have camphor. Once it’s boiling remove from stove and add 10 drops of eucalyptus essential oil. Serve to sick person to inhale.

Method 2# add grinded garlic 1 whole onion, fresh orange peel, and sea salt you can also add vicks vapor rub if u wish to do so bring to a boil and inhale steam.

Healing Spell Incantation

Power of wind

Strength of the trees

Energy of the earth

Salts of the sea

I call upon you to keep me well and strong. Fill me with health so I can be myself. With harm to none Ashe.

Non magical home remedies:

I’m not a fan of tylenol and I try to avoid it as much as possible but with covid it’s a must have to bring down fever. I used the extra strength pills.

If you don’t have an ice pack you can use a small wet towel and put it in the freezer for 1 min. Use it on forehead to bring down fever. Don’t leave the towel in the freezer for more then 1 min!!! You don’t want freezer burns.

Also jello, unflavored pediyalite, prebiotic yogurt drinks and victims D, B, and Zinc will become your best friends.

*Please note this is my experience with covid 19 and the herbal remedies that worked for me I am not claiming to be a doctor if you are experiencing emergency symptoms like shortness of breathe please seek emergency care immediately.

Day 1 in Japan! Currently 5:13 am and I’m on my quarantine facility. Tbh the jetlag is horrible but at least I can speak with my fam while they are awake. It’s only been one day but I’m already crying and missing them. The trip was so long and uncomfortable it made me homesick immediately. The two upcoming weeks will be hard af but I hope once I’m out I can be more happy and enjoy this beautiful country.

A PSA for anyone getting the Covid vaccine, just so you know what to expect, some people experience no side effects, but it’s also not uncommon for people to feel like they have cold/flu-like symptoms for a day or two after getting the vaccine. For most people the symptoms are slightly worse after the second shot. The hospital I work at is recommending that employees get the vaccine the day before they have a day or two off. They have provided some extra PTO days in part because of this. I took a day off after each shot and was glad I did. This should not discourage anyone from getting the vaccine, but is just information to keep in mind when scheduling you or your loved ones vaccines. I highly recommend OTC pain relievers like Tylenol, Advil, or their generics. Tylenol relieved all of my symptoms. There’s no prize for toughing it out, just take them and they will make it so much easier.

For me, I got my first shot in the morning and about 14 hours later I started to feel muscle aches and pains, especially in my neck. I went to bed and then woke up feeling worse; headache, lightheadedness, a temp of 99.2 (higher than normal, but not technically a fever), and worse muscle aches and pains. I started taking Tylenol and I felt much better. The symptoms lasted for about 24 hrs. After my second shot, I felt symptoms much faster, about 6 hrs after the shot, I kept up with the Tylenol a little more aggressively this time and it kept the symptoms at bay, still wouldn’t have wanted to run a 5k or give a big work presentation or anything. Over all I would say the symptoms last about 36 hrs.

And I feel like I have to put this in here, just in case it crosses people’s minds, “What’s the point of getting the vaccine if it’s just going to make you sick?” You may feel sick, but you are not infected. You feel sick because the vaccine has “tricked” your immune system into thinking you are infected so that it starts to produce antibodies, but you are not actually infected. The symptoms from the vaccine last a day or two. In contrast Covid can last for weeks or months. The symptoms from the vaccine will not land you in the hospital or, more importantly, the morgue like Covid can. Also, you won’t be able to transmit the virus or the symptoms to anyone around you.

Hopefully being informed can lead to us all making smart choices that help us get out of this pandemic as soon as possible.

I think we all know at least a few people who need to hear this perspective

This is basically exactly what happened to my wife after her second shot. It’s normal, it’s fine, get your shots anyway!

FYI it is literally impossible for the vaccines to infect you with covid. The vaccine has no viral particles in it, only mRNA. The types of vaccines that have a risk (usually negligibly small risk for the ones that make it to market) are made of viral particles that have been rendered harmless. This vaccine is not one of those vaccines. There is no covid virus, dead or otherwise, in the vaccine. The reactions described above are just your immune system figuring out how to make antibodies that will kill covid.

I have no spoons for anything rn because I have Covid.

I’m so worried about everyone who’s been around me catching it.

man there’s been a lot of talk about how nurses are acutely suffering during COVID times but almost no one – including and especially hospital administrators – seem to grasp how royally this is going to fuck everyone over after COVID for years and years to come. experienced nurses don’t grow on trees! burnout, depression, compassion fatigue, and trauma are near universal, half the nurses and doctors I know crack jokes about how “it’s not a drinking problem, it’s a drinking habit!”, and the only thing anyone is talking about is “how can we leave here” – travel nursing, retirement, cushy outpatient private practice. why break your soul working inpatient when you could get paid x4 your current rate to inject rich housewives with botox? anyone who’s got the credentials and experience to do so is jumping ship while they still can. like hey, anti-vaxxer, you survived COVID but end up in the CVICU for a massive heart attack five years from now. fantastic, your treatment team will be one divorced veteran nurse with PTSD who hates everyone now and the three junior nurses with borderline alcoholism and chronic workplace back injuries whose nursing skills all come from virtual simulations and preceptors showing them workarounds because no one had time to actually do anything properly. and everyone, including people who are pro-vaxx, who are as sick as I am with our fellow citizens’ bullshit, seems to think that once COVID goes away, the healthcare workforce will snap back to where it was before late 2019, and it won’t!!! you will be seeing the effects of COVID in our healthcare system for decades to come, and they will be bad.

i’m angry as a healthcare worker and i’m angry as a chronically ill person who has other traumatized chronically ill people I care about. we’ve gotten to the point of, “Look, just keep all your patients alive, don’t worry about anything beyond that”, and that’s a bad standard to have! when nurses choose to be or are taught to be or are forced to be mechanics instead of healers, healthcare becomes unnecessarily traumatizing and dangerous, because the first things to go in any emergency bare-bones situation are time-consuming safety procedures, comfort, autonomy, and respect.

i have a friend who has stage 3 ovarian cancer – they got an oophorectomy/hysterectomy a month ago, and in the week that they were hospitalized after the surgery, no one changed their bedsheets once. not once! it was such a violation of hygiene and basic dignity that it still haunts them, makes them less likely to trust their medical team, and I guarantee you that not a single one of their nurses or techs even had ten minutes to change those sheets without making another patient forfeit their treatment to do so. every time they went “Okay, now I have time to change the sheets”, some other critical thing came up, it always comes up, it piles up, and so that decision to leave a young cancer patient in dirty linens was the moral one, because better that five people suffer mild to moderate traumatic psychological injuries than one person be cared for and comforted and have all their physical & emotional needs met at the expense of three people laying in their own diarrhea for 12 hours while they scream for help and the fourth having an unnoticed massive stroke because someone skipped their neuro assessment. the moral calculus is grotesque and inescapable. and i’m furious that this is the system we have, full of trauma and danger and lateral violence, a system that chews patient and worker up alike and spits them out mangled, all because of fucking money.

Just got my COVID shot so I might not be posting for a little. Hope y'all are doing well today!

(:

This mood when I feel my dried tears on my cheeks and I neither want to live nor die.

We did it, we made it to the end of 2020. We’ll start the 2021 experience in a few hours.

Good bye 2020!

Happy new year!!!

So I had covid these past two weeks while I thought it was just a cold and now I’ll be with the loss of sense of smell and taste for I don’t know how long

A garden in the city which is mostly filled with insurmountable amount of people is now desolate and a little gloomy place now. The effects of pandemic is clearly seen around. May this ordeal be over soon.

COVID day 6 - still testing positive, still coughing but it no longer hurts so I’m taking that as a win. Today it feels like I’ve got a bad head cold. Feeling about 75% like my normal self.

Covid is completely knocking me out. I can’t even walk to the bathroom without getting out of breath.

The vaccine, without a doubt. In DND terms, think of it as a potion that gives you a +15 modifier to your saving throw to avoid getting sick, to avoid spreading it to others, and if you fail the getting sick saving throw, you retain that modifier to avoid severe illness/hospitalization. If you fail THAT roll, you still retain the huge bonus to your death save. Now, some people have very bad immune systems… vaccines are less reliable with those folks, but do still help. And, of course, rolling a 1 is certainly a thing.

I feel worse then I did yesterday, in which I felt okay yesterday.

But today? I feel like crap, and it sucks.

Guy’s, remember to make sure to stay 6ft away from others, wash your hands, and wear a mask

If your not feeling well, stay inside so you can protect yourself and as well others.

So my dad brought home covid and my mom and I are immunocompromised! He’s already better and going back to work, where he originally got it from most likely, and my mom and I are horribly sick, we’re all vaccinated thankfully but still super sick. My lungs, especially my right one, feels super heavy and hurts to laugh or cough, which I’m doing a ton of. And my dad’s pissy that we’re not getting better as fast cuz apparently we want to get waited on like I’m sorry we have it worse than you do you want that? Wtf? Anyway that’s how things are going rn
