You could stare into his eyes forever. Something about him got you mesmerized, the way his ice blue eyes would sparkle whenever he did something he enjoyed, and the way his lanky finger would play with his silver rings that fit his fingers so perfectly; he never failed to make you weak at the knees. Your fingers intertwined perfectly with his and it was almost like your hands were made to run through his blond hair. You and Draco Malfoy had known each other for years now, and you two had been fooling around for as long as you could remember. It all started off innocently, just seeing each other to enjoy each other’s company. But Draco, later on, became your first everything. Your first kiss, the one who took your virginity, and most importantly; your first love.

You and Draco never really established what your relationship was. As you two grew older, you would start seeing each other purely because of the sex and nothing else. Except, to you, it meant everything. You had fallen head over heels with the taller boy, thinking about him every night and day; wanting to spend every single second with him. But you could tell Draco didn’t feel the same way towards you. The only time you saw him, besides class, was late at night when he would ask you to meet him outside of your common room. You knew it was nothing but him wanting to have sex, but it didn’t matter to you. As long as you got to spend time with him, you were happy.

Even though you knew he wasn’t in love with you like you were with him, your heart broke when he got a girlfriend. He met her at the end of the sixth year, and you were now approaching the end of your seventh year. You expected your relationship with Draco to end when he met her, but to your surprise, it didn’t. Even after the two of them got together, he would still come knocking at your dorm room, falling asleep next to you almost every night. He said it was because she just didn’t pleasure him the way you did, and even though you knew it was wrong, you couldn’t help it.

‘’I’m just going to use the restroom,’’ You shouted to your friend, placing the glass you were holding in your hand on the table in front of you. As you were soon graduating from Hogwarts, a couple of Slytherins had decided to throw a party to celebrate. Of course, you had decided to go, bringing your friend with you, in hopes that you would see him. To your disappointment, you hadn’t seen him for the whole night. You had been there for a couple of hours now and you were slowly getting bored of the party; your only intention being to see him. You quickly stood up, feeling a little dizzy from all the drinks, making your way through the crowd.

You let out a sigh as you entered the empty room, the music slowly fading away as you got further and further away. You looked at yourself in one of the mirrors, touching up your hair using your hands. As you looked down at your bag you were now holding in your hands, searching for a brush, you heard someone enter the room. Suddenly, you felt a pair of lanky arms wrap around your waist; making you jump. ‘’Hello there,’’ Someone whispered into your ear, nuzzling their face into your shoulder. You quickly looked up at the mirror in front of you again, your whole body relaxing when you realized who it was. ‘’Hello there Draco,’’ You chuckled, your stomach immediately being filled with butterflies as you spotted his blond hair. ‘’You look absolutely stunning tonight Y/N,’’ He mumbled as he pressed a sloppy kiss against your neck, making you slightly tilt your head as you watched him in the mirror. His hands slowly made his way from your waist to your hips, stroking your body using his hands. ‘’I love this dress on you.’’ He mumbled again, pressing another sloppy kiss at the crook of your neck.

Truth was, you had only chosen that specific dress to get a reaction out of him. You smiled as a small blush spread across your cheeks, knowing your plan had worked. You could tell he was drunk, his words being slightly slurred and his hands getting closer to your breasts. His big hands slowly grabbed them, massaging them lightly as he continued to kiss down your neck. You let out a gasp as you turned around, playfully pushing him off you. ‘’Draco!’’ You let out, him stumbling back as he tried to regain his balance. ‘’I’m sorry, you just look too good,’’ He let out, throwing his hand into the air in defense. You let out a laugh as he got closer to you again, a small smile plastered on his lips. He slowly put his hands on your waist again, pulling you closer. You looked up at him as you placed your hands on his chest. ‘’What if someone sees us?’’ You whispered, his eyes scanning your body.

‘’Don’t worry,’’ He mumbled as he leaned down to press a kiss on your neck, your hands leaving his chest as you wrapped them around his neck. ‘’She’s already left.’’ The words made your heart drop, you had completely forgotten about her for a split moment. His touch made you forget the world around you, slipping into your own world. He looked up at you, his eyes glossy as he looked down at your lips. You looked up at him, pulling down using your hands. He pressed his lips against yours, you could taste the alcohol on them but you didn’t mind. You felt one of his hands traveling down your back, grabbing your ass. You let out a small moan as he smirked into the kiss. ‘’How about we leave?’’ He whispered, making you nod as he smacked your ass, making you gasp once again.

Since everyone was too busy partying, no one noticed you and Draco sneaking into his dorm. As soon as he closed the door, his lips were attached to yours once again. You wrapped your arms around his neck as he deepened the kiss, placing one hand on your waist and using the other one to lock the door behind you. He pressed you against the door, you could feel the bulge in his pants growing as he pressed himself against you. You loved the effect you had on him, knowing no one else could do this to him; not even his own girlfriend. ‘’You really thought you could get away with wearing that, huh?’’ Draco mumbled into the kiss, making you slightly moan as one of your hands found their way to his hair, slightly pulling at it. He pulled away, inhaling as the kiss left both of you gasping for air. You looked at him for a second before smashing your lips against his once again. This time, it was rougher.

His hands pulled at the material of your dress, desperately trying to pull you closer to him. ‘’This dress needs to come off, now,’’ He grunted as he broke the kiss. His hands slowly made their way towards the back of your dress, playing with the zipper. But before he got the chance to pull the zipper down, you grabbed his hands. ‘’Draco, you’re drunk,’’ You mumbled, making him take his eyes off your body as his eyes met yours instead. ‘’C’mon Y/N, I need you so bad,’’ He groaned as his lips found their way back to your neck. You chuckled as you grabbed his cheeks, pulling him back up so he was once again facing you. ‘’As much as I want that, it’s not right,’’ You said with a small smile on your lips.

He looked down at you, furrowing his eyebrows. ‘’Why not? You know how good I could please you,’’ He continued, snatching his head away from your grip; his lips once again meeting your neck. This time, he was slightly sucking on the sensitive skin. As much as you wanted him to continue, you just couldn’t let it happen. ‘’Draco,’’ You let out in a stern voice, once again pulling him away from you. He looked down at you in confusion, licking his lips. ‘’It’s not fair. Not to her,’’ You mumbled. As soon as the words left your lips, Draco let out a groan in annoyance, taking his hands off your waist as he shook his head. ‘’How many times do I have to tell you? She won’t know!’’ He let out, making you regret your words. ‘’But it’s still not right,’’ You whispered, looking away from the taller boy; too scared to maintain eye contact. You could hear him sigh as he walked past you, making you turn around.

There was a long silence. You watched him place his hands over his eyes as he sat down on his bed, rubbing them. ‘’You love her, don’t you?’’ You blurted out. He looked up at you, confusion plastered on his face. ‘’Of course I do.’’ He answered, not taking his eyes off you. ‘’What is this then?’’ You asked, your voice starting to tremble as you spoke. He let out another sigh in annoyance, you could tell he was getting angrier. ‘’Look,’’ He muttered as he slowly stood up once again. ‘’You make me hard,’’ He chuckled as he slowly got closer to you. You watched him carefully. ‘’But she makes me weak.’’

The words stabbed you in the heart. You felt like the world came crashing down as the words left his lips, causing you to take a deep breath. You slowly shook your head, looking down at your feet. ‘’I think this was a mistake,’’ You mumbled, trying your best to hold the tears that were now burning behind your eyelids. ‘’Don’t be silly, Y/N,’’ Draco groaned, placing one of his hands on your cheek. You quickly snatched his hand away, looking back up at him. He stared at you for a moment, his expression empty; taken aback. ‘’Then be my mistake.’’ He let out after a short silence. The whole situation was so ironic, making you chuckle as you shook your head. ‘’No.’’ You said shortly, the tears threatening to fall down your cheek any second. ‘’I shouldn’t have asked you to come.’’ He muttered as he shook his head, turning around once again as he walked towards his bed. You watched him as he took his shirt off, throwing it across the room before he got into bed; pulling the sheets over his lanky body. You watched him turn around, quickly wiping your eyes dry before he could see that you were crying. ‘’Can you at least spend the night?’’

A small smile formed on your lips as you slowly walked towards the bed, sitting down. His back was facing you, your eyes scanning his body. Counting the birthmarks that were splattered all over his back, counting them just like you had done many nights before. There was always the same amount, 7, to be exact. You carefully laid down next to him, turning around you so were facing his back. You slowly wrapped your arm around his waist, trying to pull yourself closer to him. But the boy quickly wiggled out of your grip, making your arm fall down your side again. ‘’I don’t want to hug, I just want to sleep.’’ He muttered, his back still facing you.

You felt the tears well up behind your eyelids once again, shutting your eyes shut as you laid there in silence. You decided it was best not to say anything and just let him go to sleep. You knew this was the last time you would get to spend time with Draco this way, your heart aching as the thought entered your mind. A tear dropped down your cheek, doing your best to hold the sobs back. You let the tears stream down your cheeks as soon as you heard him lightly snoring in front of you, knowing he was asleep. You turned around so you were laying on your back, staring at the ceiling.

You didn’t sleep that night. The heartbreak kept you awake all night, not that it mattered anyways because you knew you had to get up early so you could leave before everyone woke up. You left early, earlier than usual that morning, not even looking Dracos way one last time as you left his dorm. You knew that if you did, you would just break down crying. But as soon as you entered the halls and couldn’t smell his fragrance anymore, you felt your heart break into a million pieces. You hurried down the halls, tears leaving your eyes as you tried your best to hold the sobs back just like you had done a couple of hours earlier.

That night was the last time Draco came looking for you late at night; both of you knew it was over. There was nothing left to say or do. The next day you watched how they walked down the halls, hand in hand, laughing. When he walked past you, not even looking your way; that was when you realized it was over. That was when you realized you were nothing but a mistake to him, and it absolutely killed you inside. The feeling of his rough lips pressed against your skin and his fingertips lingering over your bare thighs still remained, leaving you heart broken.

You hadn’t spoken to Draco in weeks. After he left you standing alone in one of the halls, feeling confused and heartbroken, you couldn’t find the courage to even look in his direction. He slowly started going to the classes you two shared, blaming his absence on ‘more important stuff’. People had been talking about why he hadn’t been attending some classes, some even asked you about it. But no one ever questioned him, everyone just went along with it and eventually just let go of the topic. You on the other hand, just couldn’t let go.

You were still utterly heartbroken. Sure, it had gotten easier being around him without your heart completely breaking or feeling like you were about to burst into tears any second. But the heartbreak always came lingering back at the end of the day, tears escaping your eyes as soon as you laid down in your bed where no one could see you. Hermione had been the first one to find you in the hallways, immediately spotting you crying while looking for you so the two of you could walk each other to class. That day, she swore that she would kill Malfoy one day. As soon as you told Ron and Harry about it, they swore that they would hex him next time they saw him. It took a while for you to talk them out of it, but eventually, you succeeded; even though it took a lot of convincing.

To your surprise, the heartbreak had led you to a new friendship. You had never interacted with Cedric Diggory during your time at Hogwarts even though you two shared a lot of classes together, until now. ‘’I don’t know what to do,’’ You complained, running your hands through your hair as you let out a sigh of annoyance. ‘’There’s no way I’m going to pass this class.’’ You said as Hermione hummed. ‘’Don’t say that,’’ She said, placing her hand on your shoulder. ‘’Why don’t you ask someone to help you out?’’ She asked, tilting her head. ‘’Like who? You’re too busy, Ron absolutely sucks at this subject and I know Harry is too busy as well,’’ You let out, throwing your hands in the air. Hermione looked around the room, scanning the students. ‘’I’ve heard Cedric is quite good at this class.’’ She eventually said, her eyes finding their way back to you.

After that, you and Cedric became friends. He was more than happy to help you, and eventually, the friendship turned into more than just him helping you study. He would sit with you during breakfast, walk you to all your classes, he would even wait for you after his classes just so he could walk you back to your dorm. But even though he was an amazing friend, you hated to admit the fact that he was nothing but a replacement. Sure, he did all the things Draco would do, but it just wasn’t the same thing. No matter how hard you tried, you couldn’t let go of him. And you hated yourself for it.

Today was no different. You walked out of your class, already knowing Cedric would be waiting for you just around the corner. A smile formed on your lips as you spotted the dark-haired boy leaning against the wall, his eyes scanning the hallways. A big smile formed on his lips as he spotted you as well, walking towards you. ‘’Hello there Y/N,’’ He greeted you as he wrapped his strong arms around your waist, pulling you into a warm hug. You wrapped one of your arms around his neck, the other one holding your books. ‘’Hello Cedric,’’ You let out, holding onto him tightly. ‘’Do you mind me helping you out with those?’’ He asked as he pulled away from the hug, looking down at the books you were holding in your arms. ‘’Please.’’ You laughed as you handed him your books. He gave you a warm smile as you started walking down the halls.

You had to admit, Cedric was attractive. You knew every girl at Hogwarts thought the exact same thing, some girls had even tried giving him a potion that would make him fall in love with them. The first time Cedric told you about it, you couldn’t help but laugh. Who could blame them? He had everything a girl could possibly want. An amazing smile, his piercing eyes, and a charming personality. Yet, you just couldn’t let yourself fall for him. Any girl would fall head over heels for him if they were in your position, but you just couldn’t do it. Somewhere in your mind, the thought of Draco one day coming back to you still lingered and it was absolutely crushing you.

The yellow scarf was hanging from his neck, complimenting his skin tone. His cheeks were slightly red from the cold, causing you to assume he had been waiting outside your classroom for quite some time. The school would get quite cold during the winter, the cold air easily slipping through the cracks of the walls causing you to shiver. ‘’Are you cold?’’ You asked, looking up at your friend. ‘’Can you tell?’’ He laughed as he placed one of his hands on his cheek, making you laugh. He smiled at you, not taking his eyes off you. ‘’Hey Y/N,’’ He let out after a short silence, slowing down. ‘’Yeah?’’ You replied, raising one of your eyebrows as you waited for him to continue his sentence. ‘’Who are you going with?’’ He asked as he stopped walking completely. ‘’To the ball, I mean.’’ He continued. You let out a small chuckle, shaking your head. ‘’No one has asked me yet,’’ You answered, knowing it was a lie. The truth was that the person you wanted to ask you hadn’t asked you yet. ‘’Well in that case, would you like to go with me?’’

The question made you raise both your eyebrows as you stared at the boy in front of you. He stared back at you, waiting for an answer. You inhaled the cold air as you looked away from his gaze for a second, thinking about the question. You knew Draco wasn’t going to ask you. The hope slowly faded away as you looked back at your friend, a smile forming on your lips. ‘’There is no one I’d rather go with, Cedric,’’ You said, a big smile immediately forming on his lips. He was quick to wrap his arms around you, pulling you into another warm hug. You let out a giggle as you hugged him back, closing your eyes. It was time to let go.

The word spread around Hogwarts faster than you could’ve imagined. The next morning when you walked into the Great Hall to eat breakfast, all eyes were on you. You looked around in confusion, quickly spotting Cedric sitting at the Hufflepuff table. He was sitting with his friends, all of them eventually spotting you as well. As soon as they saw you, they started tugging at Cedric; then it hit you. A blush crept up on your cheeks as you quickly looked away, realizing they must’ve heard that he was taking you to the Yule Ball. Your eyes scanned the room, suddenly locking with a pair of grey ones.

Your heart stopped beating for a second. The blond boy was staring at you from across the room, an empty expression on his face. This was the first time in weeks you had actually seen Draco like this and you were not expecting it to happen any time soon, especially not now. You took a deep breath as you quickly looked away, tears filling your eyes as your heart started to ache once again. You started walking towards your friends, deciding that the best thing to do right now was just to avoid him and his gaze; even though you could feel his eyes burning into your back as you walked away.

‘’Cedric Diggory, the man himself!’’ Ron let out as you sat down beside him. ‘’The infamous Diggory,’’ Harry continued his friend’s sentence, a smile on his face. ‘’How did you do it?’’ Ron asked, looking at you with a big smile. You let out a chuckle, shaking your head. ‘’It’s a secret.’’ You smirked, making both Harry and Ron holler as Hermione let out a small laugh. ‘’I was starting to worry that you wouldn’t even go Y/N,’’ Hermione let out, you could hear the worry filling her voice. She had been extremely worried about you since the incident with Draco, constantly checking up on you. You gave her a reassuring smile as you placed your hand on her leg. ‘’Of course Hermione, I would never miss the ball.’’ You smiled, her smiling back at you as she nodded. You placed your arms on the table, slipping into your own world as your friends continued talking about the ball. You slowly looked the direction where Draco was sitting, but he was nowhere to be seen.

‘’Excuse me,’’ You suddenly heard a voice say behind you, making you slightly jump. You turned around, hesitating to do so. As soon as you spotted the person standing behind you, your heart dropped. There he was, standing right in front of you. ‘’You need to leave Malfoy.’’ Hermione quickly said, her fists clenching as she spoke. ‘’That’s not a very nice way to greet me, is it, Granger?’’ Draco hissed, a smirk on his face as he looked Hermione’s way. You could see Hermione looking your way, but you couldn’t bring yourself to look up from your lap. ‘’What do you want?’’ Harry scoffed. Draco looked his way before slowly looking over at you once again. ‘’I came to talk to Y/N.’’ He grunted, your heart dropping as he said your name. ‘’No, absolutely not,’’ Hermione exclaimed, quickly standing up as she shook her head.

‘’I’m afraid it’s not your choice,’’ Draco chuckled, looking down at the shorter girl. ‘’So, Y/N, may I have a word with you?’’ He asked once again, looking back at you who was still sitting down. ‘’You don’t have to talk to him Y/N,’’ Hermione quickly said as her gaze met yours. ‘’Granger! Just stop talking already,’’ Draco hissed in annoyance. ‘’It’s okay Hermione, I’ll go talk to him.’’ You let out, giving her a small smile. She could see the sadness filling your face, but she knew there was nothing she could do about it so she just sat back down after a few moments of silence; letting out a huff in annoyance. You stood up, not daring to look up at Draco, scared that you would burst into tears. He grabbed your arm as he pulled you out of the room, just like he had done that day.

He eventually stopped walking as you reached a spot where no one could see or hear you, the lump in your throat growing bigger and bigger. You knew what had happened last time he wanted to talk, so you didn’t expect this to go down any differently; preparing yourself for another heartbreak. ‘’Cedric Diggory, huh?’’ He let out after a short silence. You could feel his presence in front of you, still not daring to look up at him. He placed his hands in his front pockets as a small sigh escaped his lips. ‘’Could you at least look at me?’’ He asked after another short silence. You inhaled some of the cold air before looking up at him, your eyes meeting his grey ones once again. ‘’Is it true that Diggory is taking you to the ball?’’ He asked, not taking his eyes off you. ‘’Yes,’’ You let out as Draco scoffed, shaking his head and he broke the eye contact. ‘’I’ve seen the two of you around,’’ He continued, making you raise one of your eyebrows in confusion. ‘’I see the way he looks at you.’’ He mumbled. ‘’We’re just going as friends.’’ You quickly mumbled, making him let out another scoff. ‘’Friends? Sure.’’ He scolded as his eyes met yours once again.

‘’I don’t see why it matters to you,’’ You eventually said. You were confused as to why he even cared, it wasn’t like he was planning on taking you anyways. ‘’I just care about you, that’s all,’’ Draco answered, causing you to chuckle. ‘’What’s that supposed to mean?’’ You asked, folding your arms. ‘’He’s just not a good guy Y/N,’’ He continued, making you gasp. You stared at him, disappointment filling your eyes. ‘’How dare you even say that?’’ You exclaimed, feeling the anger building up as you defended your friend. ‘’It’s not like you’re any better!’’ The words slipped out of you before you could stop yourself, slowly regretting what you had just said. ‘’You and Pansy truly do belong together, both of you are just as blind and ignorant.’’ You huffed before turning around to walk off, not wanting to say anything else; afraid it would only make the situation worse.

Before you had the chance to walk away, you felt Dracos cold hand wrap around your wrist once again, pulling you back. ‘’Excuse me?’’ He snapped, anger filling his voice. ‘’Don’t act like you don’t know what I’m talking about!’’ You snapped back at him, shaking your head. ‘’I made it so obvious,’’ You continued, getting more and more upset as you spoke. ‘’Yet you were the one who broke my heart Draco, not Cedric!’’ You exclaimed. ‘’Made what obvious?’’ Draco barked, furrowing his eyebrows in anger. ‘’That I like you stupid!’’

With that being said, Draco slammed his lips against yours. You had no idea what do to, feeling paralyzed as his hand grabbed your cheek, pulling you closer to him. The kiss was raw, filled with emotions as you slowly relaxed into his touch. You slowly placed your hand on his chest, grabbing onto the fabric. He slowly pulled away, leaving you confused. ‘’What?’’ You whimpered as his forehead touched yours. ‘’Can’t you see?’’ He breathed. ‘’It was always you,’’ He let out as his hand caressed your cheek. You furrowed your eyebrows. ‘’But, Pansy,’’ You mumbled, shaking your head. Draco let out a chuckle, shaking his head as well. ‘’Why do you think she didn’t want me around you?’’ He asked, looking down at your small figure compared to his. ‘’But you treat her so differently,’’ You whispered, looking into his eyes. ‘’Only because I didn’t know how to treat you, knowing that I liked you.’’ He answered.

You had no idea what to say or do. His words felt unreal, almost like it wasn’t true. ‘’But,’’ Draco said, his hand slowly leaving your cheek. The cold feeling of his silver rings left your skin, making you ache for his touch. ‘’I understand if you’re with Diggory now.’’ He said, disappointment lingering in his voice. ‘’I mean, it’s my fault isn’t it?’’ He chuckled, looking down at you. You quickly grabbed his hand before he let it fall down his side, placing it back on your cheek. ‘’Please just kiss me,’’ You whispered, your eyes meeting his once again. He looked at you for a moment before leaning down to press his soft lips against yours once again, your heart slowly being filled with warmth as you pulled him closer.

‘’I couldn’t stand the way he looks at you,’’ He whispered as he pulled away. ‘’The way he stared at you from across the room.’’ You shook your head as the words left his lips. ‘’I was hoping it was you that was staring,’’ You let out, making him chuckle. ‘’You already know I was.’’ He gave you half a smile as the words left his mouth, pulling you into his chest. You closed your eyes as his long arms wrapped around you, finally feeling safe and sound. ‘’I think I have someone to go break up with,’’ He whispered into your ear, making you slap his arm lightly. ‘’You better.’’

You could see Draco perfectly from where you were sitting. His blond hair was falling over his forehead, his hands placed on the table in front of him; playing with one of his silver rings as he spoke to the person sitting next to him. You sat down across the room, along with your friends. You had been friends with Draco for quite some time now, and at this point it was getting hard for you to deny the crush you had developed on him over time. It was getting obvious, everyone seemed to notice, even your friends. Everyone buthim.

‘’What you staring at Y/N?’’ Rons sudden voice made you snap out of your thoughts, quickly looking his way. You felt a small blush creep upon you cheeks as Hermione shook her head in disapproval. ‘’What do you think, Ronald?’’ She let out in annoyance, looking up from the book she was holding in her hands. ‘’She’s obviously staring at Malfoy.’’ She continued, making you slap her arm lightly. ‘’I wasn’t staring!’’ You let out, a desperate try to defend yourself. ‘’Whatever you say.’’ She said under her breath, rolling her eyes. ‘’You know,’’ Ron let out, his mouth stuffed with food. ‘’I just can’t understand how you’re friend with someone like him.’’ He said, looking Dracos way as he picked his plate using his fork.

To be honest, you didn’t even know why you had fallen for the blond boy. Draco was known for his horrible ways, always picking on everyone, even you. But things changed as you got to know him, when you got to see the other side of him; the side people barely ever saw. He was actually quite a gentleman to the people he knew, he would always help you with your homework or invite you to hang out. Sure, he still had his moments where he could be really horrible, but as time passed that side slowly went away whenever he was around you. ‘’I don’t understand either,’’ Harry let out. ‘’You’ve seen yourself the way he acts.’’ You let out a small chuckle as your eyes found their way back to Draco. ‘’I wish I had an answer to your question Ron, but sadly I don’t.’’ You answered, making Ron scoff as he continued to eat his food. ‘’Enough about Draco,’’ Hermione said as she shut her book close, placing it on the table in front of her. ‘’Who are you planning on taking to the Yule Ball, boys?’’

The Yule Ball was coming up. Everyone was excited about it, especially Ron and Harry, their only chance to interact with a girl. You on the other hand, weren’t too excited. Some boys had already aksed you to the ball, which you had politely declined; in hopes that Draco would ask you. You knew it wasn’t going to happen, but you couldn’t help yourself from hoping that he would surprise you and ask you. ‘’Harry’s definietly taking Cho.’’ Ron said, a small smirk forming on his face. ‘’I haven’t even asked her yet!’’ Harry let out, looking around to make sure no one had heard his friend. You let out a small laugh as your eyes found their way back to Draco once again. He was now busy eating the food that was on the plate in front of him, making small conversation with the people around him.

That was when she sat down next to him. Pansy Parkinson. You knew Draco and the girl had always been friends, you had seen the two of them together before you became friends with Draco. But recently, you noticed that something changed between the two of them. They suddenly seemed very close, constantly hanging around each other. But most importanly, you noticed how Draco would change whenever he was around her. As soon as she entered the room, a smile would form on his lips as he always greeted her with a big hug. He would always act friendly around you, but never the way he acted around her. The smile on your lips slowly faded as he greeted the dark haired girl with a hug, like he always did. Suddenly, he placed his hand on her thigh. He probably thought no one noticed, but from where you were sitting you could see his hand under the table. Your heart dropped as you quickly looked away, not daring to continue looking. ‘’Y/N? Has anyone asked you yet?’’ Hermione asked you, making you look down at your lap. ‘’No,’’ You lied, playing with your fingers. ‘’Really?’’ Ron let out, sounding surprised. ‘’I wouldn’t worry about it too much, I’m sure someone is going to ask you soon.’’ Hermione gave you a comforting smile as you gave her a small smile back. You let out a small hum, picking up your fork.

After that, things changed. You hadn’t spoken to Draco in what felt like days, and it was driving you crazy. Sure, you had feeligns for him and it broke your heart not seeing him, but you were also afraid that you were losing him as your friend. It was unusal for Draco not to speak to you at least once a day, you two had a couple of classes together after all. But lately you hadn’t even seen him  in class, your eyes searching for him in every class; looking for his bright blue eyes. To your disappointment, you never spotted him. ‘’Maybe Cedric will take you to the ball,’’ Ron said as you sat down on the cold grass next to him. ‘’Cedric?’’ You asked, confusion lingering in your voice. After you had told them no one had asked you to the ball a few days back, Ron hadn’t stopped talking about it. ‘’Diggory,’’ He continued, looking the opposite direction. Your eyes followed his, spotting the Hufflepuff sitting a few feet away. You let out a laugh as you shook your head. ‘’What makes you think that?’’ You asked, Hermione sitting down next to you. Ron shrugged as he looked back at you. ‘’Just giving you some options.’’

It was a cold day out. You had came outside with Ron and Hermione between one of your classes to take some fresh air, the cold air immediatly hitting your warm face as you stepped outside. You wrapped your coat around your body tighter, a desperete try to warm yourself up as you felt your whole body shiver. You looked around, studying the other students. It seemed like you weren’t the only one who had came out here as the whole courtyard was filled with students. That’s when you spotted him. You eyes immediatly became bigger as you quickly stood up. ‘’I’ll catch up with you guys later,’’ You mumbled, making your friends look at you in confusion. They quickly spotted the blond boy, making Hermione sigh. ‘’Off she goes.’’ She shook her head as she watched you walk off in a hurry.

‘’Draco!’’ You called out, getting closer and closer to him. He quickly turned around, his face slowly turning into a small smile has he spotted you. ‘’There you are,’’ You smiled as you wrapped your arms around the taller boy. He lightly hugged you back, quickly letting his arms fall to his sides. Your smile faded away and was replaced by a frown. You let go of the boy and looked up at him. ‘’Where have you been?’’ You asked, raising your eyebrows. ‘’What do you mean?’’ He asked, placing his hands in his pockets. ‘’I just haven’t seen you in ages,’’ You continued, not taking your eyes off him. He looked around, trying his best to avoid eye contact. ‘’I’ve just been busy.’’ He let out, still avoiding eye contact. ‘’With what exactly?’’ You asked once again, feeling your heart drop as you spoke. He let out a sigh in annoyance before grabbing your arm, walking off with you behind him.

You stumbled after him, confusion plastered all over your face. ‘’Where are we going?’’ You asked as you entered the school once again. The hallways were almost empty, everyone either waiting for the class to begin or hanging out with their friends outside. ‘’We need to talk.’’ He mumbled as he continued walking down the halls. He suddenly stopped walking, letting go off your arm; his cold hand leaving your skin. He turned around so he was facing you once again with a frown on his face. You looked at him, waiting for him to say something. His cheeks were red from the cold, his blue eyes brighter than ever. ‘’You know I’m with Pansy now, right?’’

The words made you feel sick. For a moment, you had no clue what to say. You opened your mouth to speak, but not a single word came out. ‘’Oh,’’ You let out after a short silence, him not taking his eyes of you. You could hear the hurt in your own voice, letting out a cough in order to try cover it up. ‘’Oh!’’ You let out again, this time trying your best to sound as happy as you possibly could. ‘’I’m so glad for you two, I mean, I can see the way she looks at you,’’ You said, forcing a smile; trying to convince him you were telling the truth. ‘’But,’’ you continued, the smile slowly fading. ‘’Is that what you wanted to talk about?’’ You asked. Draco let out a sigh as he ran his fingers through his hair, looking away from your gaze. ‘’That’s why you haven’t seen me around, Y/N.’’ He muttered. You raised your eyebrows, failing to understand what he meant. ‘’Well, I understand if you want to hang around her and stuff, it’s just that I haven’t even seen you in class,’’ You continued, doubt filling your voice. ‘’You don’t understand,’’ He let out in annoyance, interrupting you. ‘’She doesn’t want me to hang around you anymore.’’

It took you a while to procress the words that had just left his mouth. You just couldn’t seem to understand what he meant by his words, leaving you confused. ‘’What?’’ You asked, meeting his gaze. ‘’And if that’s what she wants, that’s what I’m going to do,’’ He continued, not taking his eyes of you. You stared at him for a moment, trying to find the right words. You could tell he was trying to read your face, trying to understand what you were feeling. ‘’Have you been avoiding me?’’ Your voice was low, you could barely hear yourself speak. ‘’I’m sorry Y/N.’’ He mumbled under his breath, almost like he didn’t want you to hear him apologize. You felt the tears starting to well up behind your eyelids.

All this time, he was avoiding you. He wasn’t just missing classes because he was ill or something like that, he had been missing them because you were there. You held back your tears, looking down at the ground as you didn’t want him to see how his words affected you. ‘’So you mean we can’t even be friends?’’ You let out, your voice almost cracking. ‘’I’m afraid we can’t,’’ He spoke. ‘’But we were barely ever friends anyways, so it shouldn’t really matter.’’ He continued. The words made you chuckle, your heart breaking. His voice was so monotone, not a single emotion lingered in his voice. He didn’t even seem upset. ‘’I see,’’ You whispered, still looking down at your shoes. ‘’I’m sorry again, Y/N,’’ He said, fixing his tie as he spoke. ‘’I’ll see you around.’’ And with that being said, he left. He left you standing there, feeling empty. You could hear his shoes hitting the stone floor as he walked off, a tear finally escaping your eye as he could no longer see you. You looked up, watching his figure slowly disapearing as he walked further and further away. Another tear hit your cheek as you closed your eyes. ‘’I should’ve listened to my friends, huh?’’ You whispered to yourself, letting out a small chuckle at the irony of it all.

All along, you had denyed all the horrible things people had said about him; when in reality, it was all true. You sat down against the wall, letting the tears fall down your cheeks. Maybe he was right, you two were barely even friends. But you couldn’t help but think about the way he had acted around you. He would always act so different around you, throwing his arm around your shoulders or helping you out with the smallest of things. When you had accidently gotten hurt, he was the first to visit you in the hospital wing, even before any of your close friends. You could’ve sworn there was something there, but now, it all just seemed ridiclous. Maybe you just made it all up in your head, maybe you just wanted him to like you back so badly that you started to see things that wasn’t even there. But it didn’t matter, he had broken your heart, badly, without even knowing.

There was no one Draco Malfoy despised more than Harry Potter himself, and he wasn’t exactly keeping it a secret. Draco had been at Harry’s neck ever since the first day he saw the boy, there was something about him Draco just couldn’t stand. Everyone knew that it was purely because Harry had everything Draco had ever wanted, but Draco would never admit that. So instead his hate for Potter just grew more and more for each day that passed.

And there was no one Draco loved more than you, his girlfriend. Or he didn’t know if you actually were his girlfriend yet, but he surely knew he loved you and had for a long time. You started seeing Draco at the start of the sixth year, even though you had known him since your first year at Hogwarts. He never thought much of you, he never really said anything to you or even paid much attention to you. Until he got paired up with you in one of your classes, leading to him falling head over heels for you; wanting to be with you every second of the day. Draco wasn’t sure if you two were a couple yet, as you two did all the things couples would do; sleep together at night, cuddle and most importantly, have sex.

The blond boy walked into the great hall, ready to eat breakfast as his eyes searched the room for you. He spotted you sitting at your usual spot, waiting for him, just like you had done every morning. A small smile spread across Draco’s lips as he saw you talking to someone, being too busy with staring at your lips moving as you spoke to even look who you were talking to. But as he got closer, he quickly realized who it was. ‘’Potter,’’ The words left his lips, the small smile disappearing completely as he furrowed his eyebrows.

This was the last thing Draco wanted to see. He had never seen Harry speak to you before, so why was he talking to you all of a sudden? ‘’So you’re in the same charms class as me, right?’’ Harry asked with a smile on his lips as you nodded. ‘’Right!’’ You answered, smiling back at him. Harry had approached you just a couple of minutes earlier, asking if he could sit down for a minute. You had no problem with him whatsoever, so of course, you let him sit down next to you. ‘’I thought I’d seen you before,’’ He continued. ‘’It’s kind of hard to miss you, if you know what I mean.’’ His ears turned red as he spoke, clearly embarrassed. You had heard the rumors going around school, that Harry Potter wasn’t the best with girls; and at this point, you couldn’t help but laugh. ‘’I’m just going to assume that’s a compliment,’’ You laughed as the brown-haired boy next to you rubbed his neck. ‘’Oh, yeah, it was! It really was,’’ He stuttered, still embarrassed. ‘’I didn’t come over here to make a fool of myself though,’’ He chuckled, avoiding eye contact.

‘’Don’t be silly! Thank you for complimenting me.’’ You gave him a warm smile, letting him know it was okay. A small smile spread on Harry’s lips as he looked up at you, opening his mouth to speak. But before a word could leave his mouth, his smile dropped. You furrowed your eyebrows as his gaze turned to something behind you, his eyes big. ‘’Well,’’ A familiar voice said behind you, causing you to turn around to identify who the voice was coming from. ‘’I see you’ve taken a liking to my girl, Potter?’’ Draco spat, placing one of his large hands on your shoulder. ‘’Draco,’’ You let out, the words my girl surprising you. You could tell the words had surprised Harry just as much, as he couldn’t form another sentence. Harry would usually be rather quick when it came to talking back to Draco, but this time he was left completely quiet. ‘’Can I have a word with you, Y/N?’’ Draco asked, still looking at Harry who was still sitting next to you. You quickly nodded as you stood him, immediately being pulled away by the blond boy.

As you reached the empty Slytherin common room, all the other students eating breakfast which left you two alone, Draco pulled you in by the waist. ‘’So,’’ He muttered, breathing down your neck. ‘’Do I really have to show you who you belong to?’’ He whispered, pressing a kiss onto your neck, making your whole body shiver. ‘’You called my your girl,’’ You whimpered as he softly pressed another kiss onto your sensitive skin. Draco let out a small hum as he continued to press small kisses down your neck. ‘’Are you jealous?’’ You let out, causing Draco to freeze. You stood there, completely frozen as you were scared of what his next move would be. Instead, he just continued kissing down your neck, now slightly sucking on the sensitive skin. ‘’I just think Potter needs to learn how to stay in his place.’’ He mumbled against your skin, causing you to let out a small moan as you wrapped your arms around his neck; pulling you closer to him. He kissed up your jawline, his lips eventually meeting yours.

The kiss was rough. Your lips moved together perfectly as he just pulled you closer to him, his hands finding their way under your shirt as he grabbed onto your cold skin. Your hands found their way towards his blond hair, tugging at it; causing Draco to let out a small grunt as he kissed you even harder. At this point, you could feel his hard-on rub against the material of your clothes, making you wetter and wetter.

He grabbed your throat as he pulled away, making you groan as you never wanted him to pull away. ‘’How about,’’ He mumbled, looking down your body; admiring your figure. ‘’You show me who you belong to?’’ He said, looking back up at you. His eyes were filled with lust, making you weak at your knees as you wanted nothing more than for him to touch you. ‘’How do I do that?’’ You asked, causing a chuckle to leave Draco’s lips. ‘’Get down on those pretty knees for me love.’’ The very same moment the words left his lips, you dropped to your knees. You looked up at him, a smirk forming on his face as he stroked your hair. ‘’You’re such a good girl, my good girl.’’

“Malfoy, wait…”

God knows how she managed to pull her lips from his.

Draco froze. He was barely catching his breath — he was breathing so hard that she couldn’t find appropriate words to describe it. He looked so good that she was ready to condemn herself to death. His hair was tousled with her hands and his lips were throbbing after her kisses… Beautiful. Dreadfully handsome.

"You’re trembling,” he whispered.

“Stop it! Don’t do this to us, Draco. You love me!”

He froze for a moment just to look into her eyes.

He hesitated while the thought was spinning in his head.

Yes, yes, yes, damn, yes, yes, yes…

And then she finished him off. She touched his lips with her fingers, drove them over his eyelids, cheeks and chin. She whispered softly.

“You love me as much as I love you”

“Come on, Granger, come on, kill me, kill me!” He cried and suddenly…

He heard these words. They burst and flew out of his mouth so dense, alive and real that he felt a hot wave of relief wash over him.

Tears streamed down her cheeks and he was sure that her lips lightly whispered sorry before the spell.

“No one and never, Granger.” He whispered so quietly that she could hardly hear him. “No one else and never.”

“No, it’s a stupid holiday.”

Draco crossed his arms in a stubborn child-like way, a scowl on his face as he stared forward towards the front of the class where Snape was giving a lecture on the small but vicious Erkling creatures.

“Come on, please,” you pleaded quietly. Your gaze kept flickering between your easily-irked professor and the pouting blond beside you, hoping that in a few short seconds you would get the answer you were hoping for that way you could get back into your notes instead of possibly getting a detention or losing house points.

In all the years you’ve been friends with the Prince of Slytherin, you learned that he loathed the holiday and any festivities that came with it. Every year, you beg him to go out to one of the many parties that are thrown ranging from small gatherings to full-on blowouts or just do something halloween related with you, but he always refuses. His reasoning, as he put it, was that he was simply ‘too mature to be dressing up as a foul creature.’

You knew he mostly spent the holiday either asleep in his dorm or walking around aimlessly with Crabbe and Goyle to target unsuspecting first-years after the big feast but this year, you finally had enough of his anti-halloween agenda. You wanted to spend the evening and hopefully night with him laughing by your side and showing him how fun everything could be, but most of all - you wanted to see him in a costume.

“Please, if you go I will never ask you for anything ever again,” you tried again once Snape had turned his back to the class.

Draco pursed his lips as though he was genuinely considering it, his eyes still locked on the back of the greasy-haired professor before he turned slightly to you with a deep sigh. “Fine, but don’t expect this to be an annual thing.”

You gave him a bright smile, holding yourself back from jumping around in your seat and completely pushing aside the desire to throw your arms around him in excitement.

“I promise you’ll have fun.”

He hid the small smile that grew on his face from seeing how happy his answer made you, turning his head down towards his parchment filled with notes that all of a sudden seemed interesting as he avoided your gaze. He wouldn’t admit it, but he was the smallest bit of excited at the thought of spending the holiday with you because he knew that wherever you went or whatever you did, he would be perfectly content with you by his side because for the first time in all your years as friends; he realized only a month ago that the weird fluttering feeling in the pit of his stomach when he was around you or the weird overwhelming warmth that spread throughout his entire body like an ocean of water breaking through a dam - was a crush. He hated it at first, noticing and begrudgingly acknowledging it. He thought it was cliche that he somehow fell for one of his closest friends and mostly, he thought that he was going to ruin the friendship entirely. He wanted to wreck it himself, trying to distance himself from you and being extra mean - but he couldn’t.

He adored your company too much and everything that came with you. He adores your laugh, your smile, your hugs when you greet him and how you somehow give him one each time he needs it the most. He adores the study-buddy system you guys have almost every other week before a quiz or an exam. He adores your bad jokes and clumsy accidents even though those qualities annoy him with anyone else. He adores the way you want him to join you in everything fun you and he especially adores the times when he overhears you talking about him as if he’s your favorite person in the world.

Bottom line, he’s all about you.

So when this season of spookiness came, he was expecting your pleading for him to spend the day with you. Only this time, it only took you a couple times before he ultimately agreed to give in to you.

You were ready to explode with thrill at the thought of what the night held in store for you and you didn’t hide it one bit. When the big Hogwarts Hallowe’en feast was over and every one began spilling out from the Great Hall and into the main foyer, you were searching restlessly for a clean mop of silver hair that almost always stuck out in the mass of students. You weren’t sure if you were able to spot him anywhere in under a few seconds because he was unimaginably important to you, or because his hair was so uniquely bright, or maybe it was how boisterous and loud Crabbe and Goyle always were when they were by him, especially if he was with other Slytherins - but you found him, every single time with ease.

After standing on your tippy-toes several times to overlook the stampede of everyone, you finally spotted Draco leaning across a pillar with his arms crossed and a smirk on his face while he stood in a circle of his House friends that included his two goons and his quidditch teammates. You watched him thoughtfully as you approached, taking slow steps towards the group to admire him from afar and also because they were all slightly intimidating. He looked lost in the conversation, laughs escaping from his upturned lips as he listened to whatever was being said, large pale hands running through his hair every so often when the front pieces of his hair would flop down to his forehead.

He looked ridiculously good and effortlessly at that.

You weren’t sure if you should interrupt, hesitating a few feet away from them to where they couldn’t sense your presence but you were close enough to see and hear them clearly.

“We’ll see you later tonight then, Malfoy?” One of the boys nodded towards Draco.

“I’ll show up for a bit, I suppose,” he shrugs.

You see him look around the circle of boys, eyes landing on you momentarily and then back to his friends before doing a double-take towards you again in surprise. You tried to ignore the butterflies erupting in your stomach when his smile widens slightly into a short-lived toothy grin while he said a quick goodbye to his friends causing them all to disband and him to start approaching you.

“Are you ready for the halloween of a lifetime?” You ask as he neared.

He rolled his eyes, laughing faintly. “Where am I meeting you, darling?”

The nick name he used so rarely for you made your knees feel weak, a warm blush rushing up your neck and inching onto your cheeks that you knew was going to be very apparent on your face in a few seconds.

“I’ll meet you right here in an hour,” you say quickly.

You didn’t give him time to answer before you turned quickly in the direction of your common room and began rushing away before he could see the effect he had on you that was so clearly appearing on your face.

You didn’t know what the night held for you and Draco or where it would lead you. Unknowing to you, you were both hoping something more could come out of the evening between the two of you. But he wasn’t one to express himself in that department of feelings and you weren’t feeling bold enough to say anything about yours. It was a gray area of hoping that fate could somehow intervene and throw the two of you into what you both wanted without either of you really saying anything - but it was impossible. There was no outcome or situation you had in mind that could lead you into that, so you were stuck desperately hoping that one day things might end up differently.

It was beginning to feel ironic how in your world full of real tangible magic, there wasn’t a magical solution to your problem. You were trapped feeling like a muggle who had to figure things out by themselves, no magic included. The thought of giving him a love potion did cross your mind as a joke, but it wasn’t a genuine or fair option but little did you know, you don’t need a potion for him to feel the same way - because he already did.

Walking into your dorm felt like an exuberant disaster of everyone running around and sitting in front of mirrors with their makeup or dressing into their costumes. It was noisy and filled with chatter and you were in shock from how much clutter everyone was able to make in such a short period of time from when the feast ended to now. A simple spell would clean everything up so you and everybody else didn’t really pay it any mind.

You maneuvered around the mess of your housemates and towards your bed where your costume was kept in the trunk underneath it, plopping down onto the floor to pull it from the underskirt of your House colored bedding.

“Did he finally say yes?” Your closest roomie friend jumped onto your bed, propping herself up on her elbows and resting her chin on her hands as she watched you dig through your bottomless trunk.

“Surprisingly, yes,” you answered, hiding the smile on your face.

She drawled out a teasing ‘ooh,’ poking your arm lightly with her index finger as you shied away and leaned deeper into your trunk. She was the only one who you willingly admitted your crush to as she was the only person you really trusted to not blather it off to someone.

“Will I be seeing you two in the Slytherin common room?” She wiggled her eyebrows. “The boys are throwing a party and I luckily got an invite, you know how they are. So picky with who shows up.”

“You mean they’re pretentious?” You laugh. “But I don’t know if we’ll be going to it. I know Draco obviously got invited but I was thinking we could do other things.”

“Like what?” She questions as if she knew it was going to be something dirty. “I know a few secret spots around the castle-”

“No, get your mind out of the gutter,” you smack her arm lightly. “I honestly have no clue what to do. I didn’t think he’d actually agree because he never does.”

She runs her hands over her face, stifling her laughs of disbelief before she sighed loudly. “I still suggest some broom closets, hidden out of sight.”

You sit up, pushing her from where she was lying while she laughed amusingly at your false horrified reaction that you put on to hide the fact from her that what she was suggestion really waswhat you wanted.

“I’ll leave you alone so you can get your costume on,” she smiles, jumping up from your bed and tossing one of your pillows at you as she walked away. You let out a huff, tossing it back onto your duvet before setting your costume down on the spot your friend was lying in.

You stared at it hesitantly, all of a sudden feeling nauseous at the thought of going out later with Draco as if it was some sort of date even though you knew it wasn’t. It was just two friends, hanging out, doing some spooky and fun Halloween activities together and nothing more; so why were you feeling so nervous? You weren’t sure if it was your instincts warning you of something major that was approaching or the fear that what you didn’t have planned was going to bite you in the arse when you continuously told Draco he was going to enjoy himself when you didn’t even know if that was going to be true. You didn’t want to disappoint him and mess it up for you in the future when the holiday came again and you didn’t want this to be the first and last time you experienced it with him.

The pressure was raining down on you like thick, hard pieces of hail with no end in sight.

As you were getting dressed and doing your makeup for your costume as you liked, (i’m trying to be vague for your own imagination teehee) all you could think about was what in the hell you were going to do once you met up with the Prince of Slytherin. Your train of thought was then derailed into wondering what he was going to be dressed up as or if he was going to be dressed up at all considering the way he is. He was the type to make fun of people who dressed up, that you knew when you ran into him last year as you were walking back to your common room with your friend, both of you in costume and victims of his gentle bullying. He obviously went easier on the two of you since you were there, telling you he was just messing around afterwards and saying he liked yours but once you were out of his sight but still in ear-shot, you heard him and his two minions berating a small group of people that unfortunately passed by them.

You gave yourself one last look in the floor mirror, letting out a long shaky exhale with your hands clasped together before you started towards the way out of your dorm, through the common room, and ultimately towards the foyer outside the Great Hall where Draco was most likely waiting for you. An hour had gone by since you last saw him, an hour of stress and panic that hadn’t slowed down or stopped.

Your shoes dragged against the stone floors, hugging yourself tightly as you walked nearer towards the spot where you were supposed to meet and as you lifted your gaze - you saw him there, staring right at you with a small grin and just like you expected, no costume.

“Nice costume,” he compliments when you reach him.

“Where’s yours?” You frown.

“I’m not dressing up. That’s embarrassing,” he shakes his head.

You scoff, crossing your arms. “You’re the only one not dressed up,that’sembarrassing.”

You don’t know why it was irritating to you that he wasn’t in costume, even if you knew he wasn’t. You figured it was because you were trying to overpower your nervousness with different more consuming feelings, and much to your and Draco’s dismay, it worked.

You weren’t nervous anymore, just irked.

“I’m staying like this, take it or leave it.”

You rolled your eyes, staring him down and hoping that he would change his mind but he wouldn’t. He was ridiculously stubborn.

In the heat of the moment of a fleeting thought, you decided that if he wasn’t going to be in costume, you would put him in one or at least a hint of one. You pulled your wand out, pointing it onto his striking white hair and with one easy spell, his hair was now a flaming vibrant red.

Y/N!” He growled, running towards the closest thing that would show off his reflection where he let out a string of frantic curse words. “I look like a bloody Weasley.”

Your laughter caught him off guard, the sound ringing in his ears like music that spread warmth throughout him. You were clutching at your stomach with one hand and pointing at him with the other, giggling wildly at the sight of him with hair that did not suit him at all. He smiled to himself, your glee rubbing off on him abruptly that ate away quickly at his anger.

“You should’ve given me some ratty old hand-me-down robes and I’d look just like Ron,” he notes.

“That’s rude, Draco,” you say still laughing. He smirks, leaving the shiny statue of a knight in armor where he was checking his reflection and back over to you where you were still stuck in between doubling over in laughter and watching him.

“I’m glad this is funny to you,” he muses. He begins digging into the pocket of his dress pants, taking your vulnerability as a chance for him to tap his wand to the top of your head and before you could react, your whole hair had turned a deep green.

Your laughter immediately ended as you ran towards the suit of armor, your grimacing reflection staring back at you with deep Slytherin green hair and a distorted Draco behind you doubling over just like you were moments ago.

“This looks,” you couldn’t even finish your sentence, the scowl on your face saying enough for you as you turned bitterly towards Draco.

“Great?” He suggested, his guffawing subsiding into airy chuckles as you stood in front of him. Yours picked up again as you stared up at him, his striking bright red hair looking terribly unfamiliar on him. He was looking down at you, his heart jumping at the sight of you holding back your laughter. “You really do look dashing by the way.”

You swallowed thickly, thankful for the darkness that had settled around the castle and easily hid the scarlet brush appearing on your face. “But my hair is green.”

“Green is my favorite color.”

You opened your mouth to speak, your stomach and heart dropping simultaneously as your mind went completely blank. You pretended to not notice how he took a step closer to you to where he was almost fully against you and he pretended not to notice the way your lips were parted and how your chest was rising and falling a little too heavily as if you were nervous. It was game over for you when his gaze flickered down towards your lips and then back to your eyes, his head leaning down just the slightest like if he were waiting for you to meet him halfway. You were about to get closer to him, about to let your eyes close and give in to what you believed was him wanting to kiss you - but the world had other plans.

“Malfoy! There you are!” Someone boomed, clambering up the steps from the direction of the dungeons. You both jumped away from each other, your attention diverted to the Slytherin boy that interrupted the moment. “Malfoy come on, the party! And you can bring her too.”

You frowned when the boy came up to the two of you, clearly tipsy, dressed as a stereotypical vampire, and over-excited with the fact that Draco was out and willing to participate in Halloween festivities. It seemed like it bothered the now red-head when he looked to you and then back to the Slytherin boy with an apprehensive expression.

The boy, sensing the pause in the air, grabbed onto both you and Draco’s arms and started dragging the two of you towards the Slytherin common room where although the stone walls were thick, the sound of people celebrating inside were easily slipping past the stone slabs. He spoke the password out quickly and as soon as the entrance was open, you were both shoved inside into what looked like the largest party you had ever witnessed in all your years at Hogwarts. It was packed and filled with what looked like half of the school, or at least a huge majority of fifth-years and up. It was loud with music booming from a brand new wizarding-world radio in the middle of the room currently playing a song from the Weird Sisters. It smelled like a mixture of everyone’s perfumes and colognes and like firewhisky. The boy that pushed you two inside quickly passed you two cups of the very potent firewhisky before downing the third one he had in his hand and disappeared into the crowd while screaming for you to enjoy yourselves.

You both stood awkwardly away from the big and rowdy crowd, your drink clenched tightly in your hand against your chest and Draco swishing his around while it was still in the cup.

He wanted to up and run, thinking that someone was going to make a comment about his hair or about him being there, but no one seemed to pay attention to him or that he was there and in a way, he felt relieved by it and less tense by the second.

“How in the bloody hell did we end up here?” You yelled over the music, putting a hand over his arm that was holding his drink up. You didn’t mean to, but you were glad you did because he glanced down at the contact with a small smile before looking back up to you.

“We got dragged here, remember!” He yelled back.

“What?”

“We got dragged here!”

“I can’t hear you!”

He rolled his eyes, bending down towards your ear to repeat himself one last time before you finally heard him over the mayhem around you.

“This is crazy!” You looked around the room, the sight of all the bodies and recklessness being too much as they were all more than likely drunk and oblivious to how stuffy and suffocating the room was becoming.

You looked down at the golden brown liquid sloshing around in your cup, wondering whether or not you should take it, but with the nervousness you felt coming back, it didn’t take you much longer to decide to down your cup and allow the liquid courage to seep into your veins. Draco watched you with amusement, chuckling to himself when you scrunched up your face in disgust from the burn he knew it caused as it went down your throat. He shook his head, deciding to drink his too and it was only minutes that passed before the drink was quickly becoming apparent in your systems. There was something about Firewhisky that always made its mark promptly and it really was courage in a bottle that you were glad was available to you in that moment because you were sure that in just a few minutes you were close to fainting.

You were beginning to sway faintly to the music, the rhythm sounding more loud but distant and more invigorating. You didn’t care anymore if anyone was watching or that Draco was observing you curiously just as he was beginning to lose all sense of holding himself back. He was inching closer to you, his head moving slightly to beat of the song and pure joy etched onto his features when your eyes met his.

“I keep forgetting I turned your hair red!” You yelled up to him, laughing loudly when he ran his hand through it. In your moment of confidence, you reached up and lightly ran your fingers over one of the front pieces hanging over his forehead. He didn’t stop you, his heart hammering against his chest from the drink and his overwhelming crush that was clouding all his senses. “Your hair is so soft!”

He wanted to pin you up against the wall right then and there. You were peering up at him, just as you were before you were dragged inside by one of his Housemates and as soon as he was about to kiss you.

“Do you want to get out of here?” He knew to bend down this time for you to hear him to which you responded with a fervent nod. You took his hand in yours, pulling him towards the exit of the common room and he let you lead him into the coldness of the dungeons that bit at his cheeks. It was a stark difference from the warmth inside, the crisp October air being more chilled than what either of you were expecting. It felt nice against your flushed skin and easier to breathe, especially once after the common room closed again and you could hear was muffled talking and music.

Neither of you were drunk and were still aware of pretty much everything, mostly the feelings stirring inside you both that was begging either of you to make a move towards the other. You were just a tad tipsy, and so was he, but it was enough for you to still enjoy the night without the initial awkwardness that oddly settled in between you. It was weird, considering how open and talkative you usually were with each other but there was something about the evening that made it feel like if you didn’t know each other.

“What now?” He asked you with a raised brow, his hand slipping into his pocket.

You smiled, an idea coming to your head that you knew he would love and you didn’t mind doing in the name of Halloween. “Do you want to go mess with people?”

He stared at you with widened eyes, “bloody hell, I love you.”

There was nothing that could have prepared you for his response, your own eyes widening in shock as you stared at him. He felt his face get hot in embarrassment, Merlin, he felt so stupid. He was mentally smacking himself in the head, desperately wishing he could bury himself seven feet under the Earth and staying there until the end of time.

He was about to play off what he said in a joking way, but for the second time that night he was interrupted by a couple that stumbled out of the common room drunkenly snogging each other’s faces off and wholly oblivious to you and Draco standing there in lingering panic. You jumped back into his arms when the couple staggered past you, almost knocking you over in the process of their makeout session and it annoyed you beyond belief. It annoyed you that they were in your way, annoyed that they interrupted you, annoyed that it wasn’t you in their position with the one you wanted.

You dug your wand out of your pocket, flicking it their way as they rolled onto the wall, still in each other’s hold until the hex that flew from your wand hit the boy causing him to stagger back from the girl and holding his nose in pain. You heard Draco laugh from behind you when bats began to fly out from the boy’s nostrils while the girl screamed and ran away from one of the bats that swept down onto her head. The bats flew out of the dungeon and up the stairs with the boy struggling loudly the whole way up until his panicked screams were no longer heard.

“That was a perfect bat-bogey,” he looks at you proudly. “I feel bad for that poor bloke’s nose.”

“Thank you, thank you,” you bowed jokingly.

When the sound of the door opened again, you both ran to hide behind a long drape against the wall that didn’t hide your shoes very well and pressed up against your bodies that’s shapes were no doubt visible from the opposite side.

You heard footsteps trail haphazardly down the corridor, their back seemingly facing you and as you both peeked your heads out from behind the drape, Draco nodded towards the boy and pointed his wand towards him.

Slugulus Eructo,” you heard him whisper and a stream of green light from his wand hit the back of the boy’s head and as he turned around in surprise while doubling over in pain, his hand clamped tightly over his mouth as slugs began to slip past the spaces between his fingers. When he stood up to run away, you noticed it was the same boy from earlier that stopped you two from the almost kiss and dragged you to the party. You let out a string of giggles as he ran away just like your last victims.

“This is so mean,” you chortle, leaning into him from behind the drape in an attempt to get closer to him. You were feeling bolder when he beamed down at you, feeling happy knowing that although the night was still young, he was having fun. “Thank you for coming with me tonight, I know you don’t like Halloween.” You say quietly.

“You finally convinced me, it’s not that bad,” he grins.

“Why’d you hate it in the first place?”

The question seemed to strike a nerve but the Firewhisky still flowing freely in his veins tore away easily at his defenses so instead of avoiding your question entirely like he usually would, he frowned and let his guard down.

“I don’t hate it,” he answers apprehensively. “My father never let me celebrate it. He never let me dress up. He told me respectable wizards don’t partake in holidays like these.”

His pout made your gut twist in sympathy, your hand instinctively going into his as you squeezed it reassuringly. “It’s never too late to start celebrating. Besides, I don’t see him here stopping you.”

He smiled for what felt like the hundredth time that night, his stained-red hair falling over his eyes as he looked down to his shoes.

“You have a point, darling.”

The door of the common room opened again and what you suspected to be another snogging couple to stumble out from the sound of heavy breathing and multiple shoes scuffling about was something completely different.

“Glad Malfoy stayed with someone else today.” It was Crabbe.

“Yeah, he never lets us go to these parties,” Goyle responds. “Go ahead and thank Y/L/N for freeing us, he fancies her like a fool.”

“Reckon we should go look for them?”

You figured Goyle nodded to him like the blathering idiot he was because in a few short seconds they were running away up the same steps everyone else had.

You peered up slowly at Draco who was already gaping at you like a deer in headlights. He opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out. The gears in your brain were spinning wildly with happiness, the gossip hopefully being proven true when he didn’t try to deny it. You didn’t realize how close his face was to yours, cheeks tinged with pink from both the firewhisky and sudden shyness and his warm cinnamon breath fanning your face as he looked down at you.

“I can explain,” he finally said.

He didn’t need to; you placed your hands gently on his cheeks, pulling him impossibly closer to you and pressing your lips against his, catching him completely by surprise. His eyes were wide at first, his body rigid and his lips unmoving, but once it finally clicked that this was real and no longer a fantasy that played like a broken record in his head, his lips moved fervently against yours with the rest of his body following. His hands gripped your hips tightly, his fingers squeezing at the hem of your bottoms and his body pushing even further into yours.

Your bottom lip caught lightly in between his teeth as you reluctantly pulled away from him, the both of you breathing raggedly as you searched each other’s eyes.

“I feel the same,” you said softly. “Happy Halloween.”

He smashes his lips hungrily against yours again, his ego growing with each gasp of a delight that escapes your mouth as your hands roamed and tangled themselves into his magically colored strands.

“Very…happy…halloween,” he mutters against your lips in between kisses, a dazy smile adorning your face while he tightened his arms around you.

You just couldn’t wait until next year.

dude, I just started to analyse this, Quirrel had Voldy at the back of his head right?? Okay, and supposedly Dumbledore knows it all with his great powers and shit, right?? hoW DIDNT HE NOTICE THE FUCKING DARK LORD IN ONE OF HIS TEACHERS?! I mean, dark magic it’s like a vibe right?? bAD VIBE???

Draco couldn’t sleep a wink that night. He replayed his conversation with Harry over and over until he had convinced himself that everything Harry said was true. It wasn’t as though he took a lot of convincing anyway.

He decided to make use of his sleeplessness. He grabbed a quill and parchment and started to write. By the time he was happy with what he had written, scraps on scribbled out parchment littered the floor. He slipped out of bed to pay a visit to Moaning Myrtle.

-

Dearest Y/N,

I’m afraid you were right, we are on different sides now. I wish with my whole heart we could stand together in this fight, but I don’t belong with you.

It is my feelings for you that have driven me to decide to stay away from you. You are far too good for me, and I will only hold you back. I regret that it has come to this but please respect my decision.

Know that you will always be in my heart.

Yours, always
D.M

Y/N read the letter over and over again, each time hoping her eyes were deceiving her. However, the words on the parchment never changed.

“There, there,” comforted Myrtle.

Y/N should have been sad, or angry, or something. Instead, she felt nothing. Just numb. She couldn’t understand how, if you cared for someone, you could decide to stay away from them.

She stuffed the note into the pocket of her jacket and rushed back to her dorm. There, she began to scribble her own note in response to Draco’s.

Draco,

While I respect your decision, I will not pretend to understand what has driven you to make it. And I will not pretend that the idea of us not being friends doesn’t break my heart.

I’m sorry you feel as though you don’t belong with me. If it’s any consolation, I feel the opposite. When I am with you (and we’re actually getting along), nothing feels more right.

If this is to be our final correspondence, then I have a few things to say. Firstly, to me, you are so much more than the bad things you’ve done. Those things do not define you. Secondly, I have never been in love, but the way you make me feel is what I imagine love feels like. Finally, know that all of your secrets are safe with me, and I’ll be here should you need me. You can tell me anything.

Forever yours,
Y/N

Much like Draco had done, Y/N gave the parchment to Myrtle to pass on.  But Draco never came to collect it.

-

Every day for weeks, Y/N went to visit Myrtle in the hopes of some news. Not necessarily a reply, but at least to hear he’d received the note.

“He hasn’t come to visit me,” Myrtle would huff.

“Never mind,” YN would say. Seeing Myrtle every day helped a bit. Myrtle knew about her and Draco, and for some reason, Y/N trusted her.

She would talk to Myrtle about Draco. How he seemed to be looking worse and worse every day. Tired, sad, lonely. Y/N shared her worries about him, whether he would be okay again.

In classes, Y/N would occasionally steal a glance at Draco, just to make sure he seemed okay. Apart from that, the two never spoke. If Draco stole glances at Y/N, she didn’t notice.

-

Each morning Draco woke up, he wished he hadn’t. Since he stopped talking to Y/N, he felt as though he had nothing to look forward to, nothing to live for. He wished every night that he wouldn’t wake up the next morning.

Every day was the same. Go to class, try not to look at Y/N, look at Y/N anyway just to see if she’s looking at him (she never is), avoid everyone, go to the Room and work on the Cabinet, sleep, repeat. He hated it.

He wouldn’t even go and see Myrtle any more, afraid of what she might tell him about Y/N. He was entirely alone. And it was all his fault.

-

Eventually, Y/N gave up. She took her note back from Myrtle one morning, shoving it in her pocket before heading to class.

Class was the same as always. Pretending Draco didn’t exist except for a small period of time just to check up on him. Only this time, when Y/N looked at Draco, he was already looking at her. Y/N’s cheeks flushed and she quickly averted her eyes.

But curiosity got the better of her and when she glanced over again, Draco was still looking at her.

Draco hadn’t looked at Y/N for this long in weeks. He had forgotten just how beautiful she was, and just how tempting that gap between the hem of her skirt and her knee socks was. He saw colour blush in her cheeks, and he revelled in the power he has over her by simply looking at her.

Y/N didn’t dare look at Draco again during the rest of the lesson, although she couldn’t think about anything other than him. When the lesson was finished, Draco shot up out of his seat and left the room as quickly as his feet would carry him.

Y/N looked over to his seat, noticing his textbook still on the desk. She went over and picked it up. She had an idea. Tucking her note between the pages of his book, she headed out after him.

Unable to find him in the corridors, Y/N called out to Pansy.

“Pansy!”

Pansy turned around and smiled at Y/N. “Hey, Y/N.”

“Can you do me a favour?” Y/N asked. “Draco left this in class. I’d give it to him myself but…” She trailed off.

“No problem,” Pansy said. “Can I ask what happened between you two? He hasn’t been his usual self lately.”

Y/N shrugged, unsure on what to say. “It’s complicated. You’ll make sure he gets it? There’s something important in there for him.”

“You bet.”

A couple of pages turned into a couple more. Y/N was so lost in Draco’s neat scrawl that she hadn’t heard him come into the Room of Requirement.

“Y/N?” Draco asked.

Snapping the journal closed, Y/N whirled around. “You scared the shit out of me.” Draco eyed up the book in Y/N’s hands. He raised his eyebrows at her. “I’m sorry, I found it here. I didn’t mean to pry…” She apologised.

“It’s okay,” Draco said. “It’ll tell you more than I can anyway. Just give it back when you’re done.”

Y/N held out the book. “Here.”

Draco’s hand brushed against hers as he took back his journal.

The pair stood there opposite each other, neither able to look the other in the eye. After everything Y/N has read in the journal, she had no idea what to say to Draco. As for Draco, he knew everything he wanted to say but couldn’t bring himself to say the words.

The pair stood there opposite each other, neither able to look the other in the eye. After everything Y/N has read in the journal, she had no idea what to say to Draco. As for Draco, he knew everything he wanted to say but couldn’t bring himself to say the words.

“I have one thing to say,” Y/N said after clearing her throat. “I understand if you hate me for telling Harry, but I want you to know that I’m fighting for a world where if we get married, it’s because we love each other. Not because we have to.”

“I don’t hate you. I understand you’re doing the right thing, and I’m sorry that I’m not as brave as you.” Draco said.

Y/N shook her head. “It’s not about bravery, Draco. It’s that I have nothing left to lose. I lost my mother, my family, my freedom and myself.”

Deep down, Draco knew she was right. If it weren’t for the safety of his family, he wouldn’t hesitate to join Y/N. But he couldn’t, if they got caught, Draco’s punishment would be to watch his mother and father suffer and die. He would likely be left alive, it would be more painful than death.

“So what happens for us?” Draco asked, although he could already guess the answer.

Y/N shrugged. “I don’t know, really. As if things weren’t already complicated enough. I’d like to be friends, but I suppose that’s out of the question.”

“Why?”

“We’re on different sides now, Draco.”

When Y/N put it like that, Draco realised just how right she was.

“Well, not necessarily,” Draco explained. “It’s not my fault if I don’t know your allegiance has changed and still pass on information like, I don’t know, when the Death-Eaters plan to enter Hogwarts.”

“I wouldn’t ask you to do that, Draco. That’s a massive risk, Voldemort could find out.”

“Like I said, I don’t know your allegiance has changed.” Draco felt it was the least he could do. It was his way of helping Y/N without risking his family. “Look, I’m sorry about the other night. I didn’t mean any of it, I was just angry and sometimes I lose control.”

“I know, Draco, it’s okay,” Y/N reassured. “Look, I have a lot to think about, and so do you. Let’s just go to bad and we’ll figure this out later.”

-

Harry sat across the room from Y/N, watching her paying attention to the professor addressing the class. Despite Draco’s behaviour the other day, he had yet to see Y/N interact with Draco in any way. So far, not so much as a glance in his direction.

Knowing Y/N, whose father is a Death-Eater, is now one too, it was highly likely that Draco was as well. Which means they would know each other, at the very least. But there was no acknowledgement on Y/N’s part.

However, when Harry decided to swallow his pride and look at Draco, he saw a different story. Draco watched Y/N from the corner of his eye, so subtle that Harry might not have noticed if he wasn’t looking for it. Draco looked at Y/N the way Harry looked at Ginny, the way you look at someone you love but can’t have.

But there was no way. No way that Draco was in love with Y/N. Someone like Draco surely wasn’t capable of love.

When the class was over, Harry darted off after Draco, leaving Ron and Hermione behind. He followed behind Draco through the corridors, not bothering to be subtle.

Draco, aware he was being followed, led them to a secluded alcove, away from prying eyes.

“Why are you following me, Potter?” Draco hissed, his hatred for Harry had never been higher after he and Y/N had been getting closer.

The two boys stood with a good distance between them facing each other. The alcove was cold and damp, but at least here no one would see or hear them.

“I wanted to talk,” Harry said.

Draco gave Harry a look as if to say he doesn’t believe him.

“Does Y/N know you’re in love with her?” Harry asked.

Draco showed no emotion externally, but internally his stomach dropped. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“I think you do.” Harry insisted. “I’ve seen the way you look at her. I couldn’t help but notice she doesn’t look at you the same way. Or, at all, actually.”

Rage flared up inside Draco, but he was determined to control his emotions, to prove he could be a good person. “You don’t know as much as you think you do, Potter. I suggest you keep your nose out of where it doesn’t belong.”

“Maybe I don’t know as much as I think I do, but I’ll tell you something I do know,” Harry challenged. “You’re not good for her. She’s trying to do the right thing, and you’re always going to be the bad guy. I suggest, if you really care about her, that you leave her alone. Or you will be the death of her.”

Harry walked away, leaving his words in the alcove with Draco.

For some reason, Y/N didn’t go to classes the next day. Draco, who was still angry at her, convinced himself he didn’t care. However, someone else had also noticed Y/N’s absence.

Harry Potter, and his two closest friends Weasley and Granger, looked at Y/N’s empty seat and whispered among themselves. Draco felt the anger flare up inside him.

Now, the secret he and Y/N had shared, was ruined by Potter. Potter always ruined everything for Draco, but he wouldn’t let Potter take Y/N from him.

“Think you know everything now, do you, Potter?” Draco sneered as Harry and his friends passed on their way out of class.

“Care to tell me what it is I don’t know, Malfoy?” Harry shot back.

Draco’s lip curled. “You wish.”

“Let me guess,” Ron piped up. “You’re a Death-Eater too? Wouldn’t take a genius to figure that one out.”

“Is that why you’ve figured it out, Weasley?” Draco fired off.

“So it’s true? You are one,” said Hermione.

Draco scowled at her. “None of your business, mudblood.”

Hermione, used to Draco’s horrible remarks, was not at all bothered. Instead, she found it somewhat amusing that he thought that word would still upset her as it had the first time she’d been called it.

“Where’s Y/N, Malfoy? We need to talk to her,” Harry said.

“In the dormitory I assume,” Draco replied nonchalantly. “If I see her, I’ll be sure to pass on the message.”

-

Y/N hadn’t been able to muster up the energy to get out of bed that morning. Following her argument with Draco, she spent the rest of the night crying and hadn’t fallen asleep until she was supposed to have gotten up for lessons.

She let herself have a few hours rest, promising to attend the afternoon’s classes. However, her sleep was fitful, interrupted by flashes of a nightmare. Not wanting to ruin her sleep schedule, she dragged herself out of bed after lunch.

She threw on her uniform and went to her lesson. Tired and distracted, she barely took any notes or understood a thing the professor was on about. Y/N could feel Draco’s eyes watching her from across the classroom, but she was too tired to care.

Instead of going to the Great Hall for dinner, Y/N headed straight to the Common room. Although her stomach was growling (she hadn’t eaten all day), she had no energy to do anything except crawl into bed.

“Y/N?” A voice whispered as someone gently shook her awake.

It was Pansy Parkinson, one of Draco’s friends. Y/N sat up and rubbed her eyes. It was dark outside now, and everyone seemed to be back from dinner. Y/N hadn’t even realised she had fallen asleep.

“Hm?”

“Are you okay?” Pansy asked. Y/N nodded. “Um, Draco’s asking for you. I said I’d see if you wanted to talk to him.”

Y/N didn’t want to talk to Draco, but Pansy had gone out of her way to ask. “Er, I’m quite tired.”

Pansy nodded. “Alright, I’ll tell him to bugger off then,” she winked.

Y/N chuckled. “Tell him I’ll talk to him later.”

“Will do.”

-

It had taken Draco less than a day to go from being mad at Y/N to feeling guilty for causing their argument. Y/N had come back and been perfectly nice to Draco, even offering to help him with the Cabinet and he had gone off on one.

Draco couldn’t handle Y/N not speaking to him. He hadn’t meant the horrible things he’d said the previous night. All he wanted to do was apologise and fix everything.

“Sorry, Draco,” Pansy said as she came down from the girls’ dorms. “She’s asleep, and I’m not waking her just so you can piss her off again.”

Draco sighed. “She doesn’t want to talk to me, does she?”

He flopped onto one of the Common room sofas, and Pansy sat beside him. “I don’t know what you did, but she seems really upset.”

“She has every right to be, I was awful, Pans.” Draco buried his face in his hands and let out a muffled: “She hates me.”

Pansy rubbed Draco’s shoulder reassuringly. “I’m sure that’s not true. Just give her some time, and when she’s ready to talk to you again, tell her how sorry you are.”

“Don’t tell the boys about this, please.” Draco had sat back up straight now.

“I don’t tell the boys anything, Draco.”

-

Y/N woke around midnight. She cursed herself for messing up her sleep schedule but decided to drag herself out of bed, still dressed in her now crumpled uniform.

She slunk down the dark hallways to the Room of Requirement. It wasn’t that she hoped to see Draco, necessarily, but that she needed a distraction.

In the Room, she decided to explore a bit. Heading in the opposite direction to the Cabinet, she wandered aimlessly around, fingers picking up dust from the things she touched.

She stumbled on an over-stuffed armchair. On it, rested a leather-bound book that wasn’t caked in dust. She picked up the book and looked on the back.

D.M

It was the journal that Draco had told her about. She wondered how it’s contents came to be known by Voldemort. She wanted to read it, to know what He knew.

Just a few pages, she told herself.

20th Sept

For the first time since I saw her this summer at the meeting, we spoke. I wanted so badly to hate her, to push her away. But I couldn’t. Up close, she’s even more beautiful than I had thought. Worse still, she’s kind. Too kind. I don’t deserve her kindness.

3rd Oct

Today I showed her what I’ve been up to in the Room of Requirement. I think I can trust her. She’s like me, she doesn’t want this. We have stuff in common, and it makes it harder for me not to feel this way about her.

21st Dec

We went to Hogsmeade together tonight. I stupidly kissed her. I’m not sure what came over me, usually, I have better self-control. Hopefully, she’ll be too drunk to remember and I won’t have made everything awkward.

14th Jan

I’m in the hospital wing. Hurts to write. Stupid fucking Potter. I haven’t seen her in a few days. I miss her. I need to talk to her.

I can’t do this anymore.

19th Jan

She saved my life. She held my hand and pulled me away from the edge of the tower. She’s offered to help me with my task from the Dark Lord. I suggested that when all this is over, we run away. She wasn’t sure. I had the perfect opportunity to tell her how I feel and I didn’t. I hate myself.

Draco waited up in the Common room for Y/N to return. He pretended to be writing an essay so no one would speak to him. Time slowly crept by, it was getting later and later whilst Draco’s mood got continually worse.

Eventually, Y/N stepped into the Common room, expecting it to be empty. At first, she didn’t notice Draco, tucked away in a dark corner. Draco, of course, had noticed Y/N.

“Oh, hi Draco,” Y/N said when she spotted him. “It’s pretty late, you going to work on the Cabinet?”

Draco nodded but didn’t say anything.

“Need any help?” Y/N asked.

“No,” said Draco sharply. “Besides, I’m sure you’d rather spend your time with Potter.”

Y/N scoffed. “What are you on about?”

“I saw you sneak off with him at dinner,” Draco stood up from his chair and started towards Y/N. “That was a few hours ago.”

Y/N, who could feel the anger radiating off Draco, didn’t back away. “I told you last night, Draco, I’m helping Harry. I told him everything.”

“You what?” Draco was about to explode.

Y/N rolled her eyes, testing Draco’s self-control. “I didn’t mention you, okay? I lied and told Harry it was me who was given the task of killing Dumbledore. I didn’t mention you.”

Draco was seething. “How’s Potter supposed to trust you when you’re lying to him?” He spat.

“I thought you’d be glad I didn’t mention you.” Y/N admitted.

“What would’ve been better is if you hadn’t told him anything at all.”

“I said I was gonna help him, how can I do that if I don’t tell him what I know?” Y/N asked.

Draco ignored her question. “I don’t need your help any more. I can’t trust you. Just forget about everything that’s happened between us.”

“Whatever, Draco. We’ll talk about this tomorrow when you’ve calmed down. I’m going to bed.”

Y/N had had enough of Draco’s foul mood, deciding it would be better to leave him be until he was over his initial anger. She turned away from him and began to walk away.

“Don’t walk away from me, Y/N!” Draco raised his voice. “We’re not done here!”

Y/N whirled back around, losing her temper too. “I’m not talking to you when you’re like this. And keep your voice down,” she hissed. “I am trying to help you! That’s all I’ve been doing, and you just - God, you just won’t let me. Every time I feel like I’m finally getting somewhere with you, you lose your temper, and it’s back to square one.”

“Don’t pretend like you’re looking out for me!” Draco shouted. “You’re only looking out for yourself.”

This pissed Y/N off. “Who saved your fucking life, huh? Twice! And I did that for me, did I? Alright, Draco, you’re right. You think you know fucking everything.”

“You did that because if I die, you know the Dark Lord will kill you too!” Draco yelled.

“Not everyone’s as selfish as you are. I saved your life because I fucking care about you, for fuck sake! Not that you’d know what that means.”

Y/N wondered how they had gotten here. Last night, she felt like they had made real progress. Draco had let Y/N see a new side of him, and Y/N had opened up to Draco. But today, it was as though the previous night had never happened

“You don’t think I care about you?” Draco asked incredulously. “I think about you all the fucking time! I was the one who suggested we run away together, but you weren’t interested!”

“I don’t want to run, Draco. We’ll be running forever!” Y/N cried. “I want him gone. I want him dead, my dad too. That’s what I’m fighting for, our freedom! You’re just blindly doing as you’ve been told because you’re too afraid to fight back!”

“If I fight back, I’ll die.”

“You think I won’t?” Y/N asked. “You think my dad won’t hesitate to kill me the second he finds out I’ve betrayed the Dark Lord? The difference is, I’d rather die than live like this.”

“So I was just standing on the edge of the Astronomy tower for fun? For the view? I don’t want to live like this either, but I do for you!”

Draco’s words hung in the space between them, both of them breathing heavily. Y/N hadn’t meant to get so angry. She hated herself for losing her temper, so much like her father. Hot-headed and impulsive. She wondered if she got her compassion from her mother.

“I’m going to bed.” Y/N’s voice was small, quiet. “Good night, Draco.”

Draco watched as Y/N disappeared up the stairs to the girl’s dormitory. He stood there alone for a while until he headed to the Room of Requirement.

-

“Tell me you’re joking,” Ron said, bewildered.

Harry shook his head. “She showed me her Dark Mark.”

“Seriously, Ronald, why on Earth would she lie about something like that?” Hermione chided.

Harry had relayed all of what Y/N had told him to his closest friends. They, of course, were just as shocked as he was.

“Shouldn’t we tell Dumbledore?” Ron asked.

The trio all exchanged looks. “If it’s true, and Snape really is on our side, Dumbledore may already know.” Hermione reasoned.

“Question is, do we let Y/N in on Order information? Do you think we can trust her?” Harry suggested.

Ron chimed in: “We should talk to Sirius, see what he says.”

“If she’s telling the truth, she took a big risk. We should at least protect her secret, even if we don’t let her into the Order,” said Hermione.

The two boys nodded in agreement.

The next morning, they headed to the Owlery, with a note scribbled to Sirius ready to be delivered. In this note, there was a date and time for a fire meeting. The trio agreed to pass on the information but withhold where it came from to protect Y/N.

Perhaps with Y/N’s help, they could defeat Voldemort once and for all.

“I suggest the two of you head straight to bed.” Snape drawled when the trio arrived back at Hogwarts. “Don’t get caught.”

“But sir-” Y/N called out in a hushed voice, but Snape had already whirled around and began to walk away.

Her mind was reeling trying to process what had just happened. She looked at Draco. “What the fuck was that?”

Draco couldn’t meet Y/N’s eyes. “I-I er…How did you lie?”

“Whatever Snape gave Voldemort, it wasn’t Veritaserum.”

This piqued Draco’s interest. “Then why would you tell him about running away?”

“He already knew, Draco! If I lied, He’d have known. That would be me dead, you dead and Snape dead. I wasn’t going to let that happen.”

Draco didn’t say anything. Y/N rubbed her stinging cheek. She was sure it would bruise tomorrow if she didn’t put some Dittany on it. And she should put some on her shoulders too.

“How did He know? About running away?” Y/N asked the question that had been eating her up since the revelation. “Did you tell someone?”

“I-I have a journal. It’s been missing for a few days now. I thought I left it in the Room of Requirement, but…”

Y/N took a deep breath to calm herself. She told herself it wasn’t Draco’s fault. “Okay, alright.”

“I’m sorry, Y/N-”

“No, it’s okay.” Y/N interrupted. “It’s done now. We made it out alive. But please, be more careful. I’ll see you tomorrow, I’m going to bed.”

“Y/N-” Draco called out.

“Midnight in the Room of Requirement. You’re telling me everything. No more secrets.” And with that, Y/N headed to bed, leaving Draco alone in the dark corridor.

-

All day, Draco had tried to get Y/N’s attention, to catch her eye. And all day, Y/N had ignored him. In class, she looked only at the professor and her notes. In the Great Hall, she practically sat at the opposite end of the table to Draco. In between classes, Draco would try to catch up with Y/N, but she was too nimble.

He knew he had to come clean tonight. About everything. His task, his parents, his feelings. He had planned to do it the night before, but everything that could possibly have gone wrong went wrong. He kicked himself for not telling her everything sooner.

If Y/N hadn’t come up with her quick lie, they’d both be dead. She had saved his life again. And not to mention there was the situation with Snape, lying to the Dark Lord and giving him a decoy Veritaserum. Whose side was Snape on?

Much like usual when you dread something, midnight came around quickly. So quickly, Draco realised he hadn’t even planned out what he was going to say. And at this rate, he wasn’t even sure if Y/N would turn up. Nevertheless, on his way to the Room, he went over in his head just how he would tell her everything.

“Over here.” Draco heard when he’d entered the Room.

Y/N was standing between a broken old desk and a pile of discarded chairs, some with legs missing, others missing their backs. She was wearing her uniform still.

“Hey,” Draco said, not sure what else to say. “I wasn’t sure if you would actually be here.”

“I’m here,” she said softly. “I need to know everything, Draco. I can’t have any more secrets between us.”

Draco nodded. “I know. I’ll tell you anything. Just ask.”

Y/N hopped up on top of the old desk. Draco stood opposite her in front of the stacked chairs. She seemed to be thinking about what to ask first, and Draco couldn’t blame her. There was a lot she didn’t know.

“What’s your task from Voldemort?” She asked after a few moments of silence.

“He wants me to…to kill someone.”

“Who, Draco? You can tell me anything, you can trust me.”

He couldn’t avoid it anymore, Y/N had to know the truth. She deserved it after all the had done for him.

“Dumbledore.”

Y/N was silent for a minute. The seconds dragged on as if for eternity. Draco could hear the sound of his heart pounding in his chest over the silence.

“So, that’s…” Y/N thought aloud. “That’s why the necklace…and the poison…”

Draco nodded, ashamed of his actions.

“Oh, Draco.” Y/N spoke in a whisper. “You really are in deep.”

“I don’t want your sympathy!” Draco burst out, temporarily losing control of his emotions.

Y/N, however, did not look fazed. “Don’t give me that, Draco, we’re past all that shit. I pulled you back from the edge of a tower and held you while you cried.”

Draco didn’t want to admit that Y/N was right, so he stayed quiet. He hadn’t meant to get angry, sometimes he just can’t control it.

“I’ve been thinking,” Y/N said. “About Snape.”

“What about him?” Draco asked.

“If you’d let me finish.” Y/N shot Draco a look. “I’m not sure what side he’s on, but if he were truly loyal to Voldemort, he wouldn’t have helped us. What if he’s a double agent?”

Draco looked confused. “Double agent for who?”

“The Order.” Y/N explained, which told Draco nothing. “Of the Phoenix. Dumbledore’s version of the Death-Eaters, except no one’s there against their will.”

“Where do I sign up?” Draco joked.

“I know you’re just joking, but I’m not. We can help Harry defeat Voldemort. They won’t send us to Azkaban because we helped them win. We’ll be free.”

Draco could hardly believe what he was hearing. “Who’s proposing crazy ideas now, huh?”

“I’ve already decided, Draco. I’m doing it. And I think you should too.”

“Why?”

Y/N scooted off the desk and stood up. “Because I care about you and want to-”

“But why?” Draco demanded, losing control again. “Why on Earth do you care about me? I’m a fucking terrible person! I’ve just told you that I’ve been ordered to assassinate the fucking headmaster and you still refuse to see how bad I am.”

“You aren’t bad!” Y/N shouted back. She hadn’t meant to raise her voice but she couldn’t help it. “You do what you have to do to survive, Draco. Just like me! If you’re bad then so am I.”

Y/N wasn’t sure why her voice had cracked, but when tears blurred her vision, she realised. Quickly, she turned away from Draco. She couldn’t let him see her cry.

“Hey,” Draco whispered. “You’re not bad, okay? Don’t ever think that. I’m sorry that I yelled at you, I shouldn’t have done that. Come here.”

He took Y/N is his arms, holding her close to his chest. He could feel her warmth and the shaking of her shoulders as she cried. He tucked her head under his chin, stroking her hair gently.

Midnight.

Y/N slipped out of bed, dressed still in her school uniform, and crept out of her dormitory. Padding down the dark corridor, she remembered the way to the Room of Requirement from her Common Room.

She waited outside the Room of Requirement where they had agreed to meet. Draco wasn’t here yet, so Y/N assumed she was early. Minutes passed, but he still didn’t show. If only she had a watch.

“Y/L/N.” Snape’s voice broke the silence.

Y/N jumped. Snape had seemed to come out of nowhere, scaring her. Oh shit, she thought, I’m in trouble now.

“I believe you are waiting for Mr Malfoy, no?” Y/N nodded. “He’s already gone.”

“Gone?” Y/N repeated, her voice urgent. “Gone where?”

“Malfoy Manor. We’ve been summoned for a meeting.” Snape explained. “Come with me.”

-

Y/N and Snape arrived at the Manor. When they entered the drawing-room, it already had occupants. Draco, like Snape had said, Draco’s mother and father, Bellatrix Lestrange, Fenrir Greyback, Y/N’s father and of course, Voldemort himself.

“Ah, Y/N.” Voldemort greeted. “Thank you for joining us. Take a seat.”

It wasn’t an offer, it was an order. Y/N’s heart pounded as she took a seat in a chair pressed up against the wall. On either side of her stood her father and Greyback, as though on guard.

Across the room stood Draco, beside his parents. He looked equally as terrified as Y/N, but only for a split second, after which he looked ahead stoically, avoiding Y/N’s gaze.

“Thank you all for coming tonight,” Voldemort said. No one dared to say anything. “We’re all here to check on young Draco and Y/N. To make sure they are getting on with their respective tasks.”

Voldemort moved towards Draco. Y/N saw Draco’s mother squeeze his hand in reassurance. Draco bowed his head in respect to the Dark Lord.

“Draco,” Voldemort leered. “How have you been finding your task?”

Draco kept his eyes averted, staring at the floor instead. “Challenging, my Lord. I’ve been working to repair a Vanishing Cabinet in the Room of Requirement. It’s difficult, but every day I make progress.”

“And how does this Cabinet help with your task?”

Draco swallowed. “It has a sister, at Borgin and Burkes. It means, once I’ve fixed it, you can enter Hogwarts without apparating.”

Bellatrix gasped and laughed menacingly. Draco’s father, Lucius, looked proud of his son for once. Voldemort looked pleased. He nodded, moving away from Draco.

“Y/N,” said the Dark Lord, turning to look at her. “I trust he is telling the truth.”

Y/N nodded. Then her father jabbed her with his elbow, prompting her to speak up. “Yes, my Lord.” She replied.

“Tell me, Y/N, does Draco know of your task?”

Y/N’s shoulders tensed. Something wasn’t quite right. “Yes.” She admitted, knowing the consequences if she lied.

“And, do you know of Draco’s?”

“No, my Lord.”

This answer did not seem to please the Dark Lord. He thought she was lying. A looked to Fenrir Greyback.

A large pair of hands grabbed Y/N’s shoulders, pulling her up. She flinched at the shock and the dull pain from Greyback’s claws grazing her skin. Y/N willed herself to not show her fear or look to Draco for help. He wouldn’t help her here.

“Severus,” Voldemort commanded. “The Veritiserum.”

Snape pulled a vial of Veritaserum out of his robes, placing it in Voldemort’s outstretched hand. Y/N’s father took the vial, unstoppered it and forced the liquid down Y/N’s throat while Greyback restrained her.

Y/N’s heart pounded and she could barely keep her breathing under control. She had known something wasn’t right, but she didn’t know what.

“I hope you don’t mind, Y/N,” Voldemort sneered. “I just want to ask you a few questions.”

Y/N knew she couldn’t lie, so she kept her mouth shut. She had no choice but to answer the questions.

“Would you say you and Draco are friends?” Voldemort asked.

The less Y/N said, the better. “Yes, my Lord.”

“Perhaps more than friends?” Voldemort persisted.

“Getting involved in teenager’s love lives, are we?”

Y/N was struck across the face. The sound of her slap echoed through the drawing-room. She’d been hit enough times to know exactly who hit her. The only person whose ever hit her was her father.

“Don’t you dare talk back to the Dark Lord!” Her father bellowed.

Y/N’s cheek stung, filling her eyes with tears that she fought to keep down.

“Volkan,” Voldemort warned. “I’ll make this quick, shall I? Have you and Draco talked about running away together?”

At the mention of his name, Draco looked up from the floor for the first time since Y/N had arrived. Y/N had no idea how Voldemort knew this. But Draco did.

“Yes,” Y/N said.

“Is that so?” asked Voldemort.

Lucius glowered at Y/N. It was clear to him that she was tainting his precious son. Y/N ignored his glare.

“We talked about running away from Hogwarts. To join you permanently, my Lord.” Y/N blurted. “We are afraid that after we have completed the task, we will no longer be of use to you and therefore left behind.”

Voldemort stepped towards Y/N. “My dear Y/N, we would never leave you behind. Did we not welcome you with open arms when you joined us this summer?”

“Of course, my Lord. But we worry that. because we’re just children, we aren’t of as much use to you as others.”

“I can assure you, that is not the case. But you will not be running from Hogwarts. That is the only place where you are more powerful than I.”

Snape stepped forward. “My Lord, if you are finished, may I return to Hogwarts with Malfoy and Y/L/N before someone notices they are missing?”

The Dark Lord signalled to Greyback to release Y/N. “Very well, Severus. Draco, keep us updated on your progress with the Cabinet.”

With her face throbbing and her shoulders aching, Y/N obediently bowed before the Dark Lord and followed behind Snape who was leading the way back to Hogwarts.
