a/n: i know paimon says that when she first met traveller, baal hadn’t introduced the vision hunt decree yet but shhhh you heard nothing

as if the gods of celestia had known what a pitiful day was to come for y/n, the present rainfall raged harder, the pelting of each drop growing louder by the minute. the child-like smile plastered on her face was now wiped clean, a quivering lip taking its place.

the day started off pure. her begging her mother to let her tag along with her while she works, claiming that her little sister was old enough to be able to stay home by herself. clinging to her mother’s arm in a childish nature, her mother was trying her hardest to tug her arm out of her child’s grip. with one final beg, her mother abruptly whipped her body to face the teen.

before y/n could sneak in another beg, she saw a faint look of hesitation in her mother’s eyes. the way her eyebrows creased and her lips turned down into an indistinct frown before reverting back to her hostile gaze at her own daughter. the older woman yanked her arm out of the grip on the teen and opened her mouth. there was a faint realization that this would be the last time she would ever see her mother the same again, hoping that once in her life that flowers would flow out of the older woman’s lips, out only came thorns and stones.

“wait, no!” her cries were ignored as the woman holding a wood-woven basket filled with her belongings had treaded through the undergrowth and out of sight.

“come back! please, mama!”, shifting her weight into her feet to run after her mother but faltered as soon as she heard calls of her younger sister back at her abode.

“tame”, the name left her lips breathlessly, sprinting back to her house and busting open the doors, only to see soldiers of the tenryou commission pushing and pulling at her, in search of her vision that her parent’s had claimed the two of you had.

“there’s the other one, seize them.” kujou sara, the loyal general of the commission, having devoted her life to their deity.

“wait, no! she doesn’t have one, only me! stop, don’t touch her!” [y/n]’s voice boomed through the abandoned home and bounced off the wooden walls as she ran in front of her crouching sister, hiding her figure behind her arms.

the other soldiers raised their weapons, the blades of each taunting [y/n] mocking her to make another move, “i’ll give you my vision, just let her go.”

“how strange, we were told both of you had visions…” her tone was mocking, and venomous.

“it’s not true!! please, let her go” her pleas had made the entire house go silent, the only thing heard was the harsh pattering of the rain outside.

“very well… take her vision if it’s the last thing you do!”

tame, run.” was the very last thing tame’s older sister had ever said to her, before sprinting out of the house, effectively chasing every soldier out.

though her legs burned and the pelting rain irritated her skin, [y/n] kept running, she had to, she didn’t want to die, not now, not like this. unbeknownst to her, the general was a bow wielder, standing quite a ways away from her, she drew the arrow, and fired, aiming at the [h/c] girl’s calf.

shrieking in pain, [y/n] felt herself tumble to the ground, the soldiers now catching up to her. one specific man drew his sword out, aiming it at the girl’s abdomen. fearfully, she used her arms to pull herself back, but he was quick to catch up to her.

“give up your vision, now!”

the girl cried, looking both left and right, hoping, praying that there was a way she could get out of this situation. a brown wooden boat had caught her attention, it was abandoned left at the shore with no trace of the owner. taking deep breaths in to ready herself on her legs again, she forced herself upwards, dragging her injured leg behind her and running towards the boat.

“stop her!” turning her head to look behind her, she materialized her polearm, given to her by her father before he passed away. she forced it in front of the only soldier able to catch up to her. before she knew it, the soldier was able to land a hit- or rather a stab in her side. he gave it a sharp twist before pulling his dagger out, making her choke on her own breath. her grip on her polearm tightened, swinging it at the man and slicing her arm. she fell to the ground in pain just as he did, and clutched at her side.

“get up!” a voice that lingered in the back of mind sounded through her head.

a voice of whom held a special place in her heart before his life was taken away from him.

“get up y/n!” was she delusional? was this what happens when you die?

still, she obeyed dragging herself to the shore where the abandoned boat resided. up, she thought. one more step and you’ll be safe. she just had to force herself to climb, then she’d be free of her life in inazuma. her father’s voice sounded through her mind, her eyes teary from the pain.

i can’t papa…”, her voice was weak, but there was a passion that seemed to belong to something- someone much more powerful.

mindlessly, she was able to force herself into the boat, the feeling of someone else controlling the mechanics of her body, she surrendered, laying idly against the wood of the boat as it drifted out to sea.

with one last look at the island she grew up on, reminiscing on the foul and nostalgic memories she had made, she only saw her sister and her tear-stained face, their gazes stuck on each other. tame was being dragged away by the general and her subordinates, writhing and screaming all while staring at her older sister longingly, her protector, her family.

tame…” her voice reeked of pain, and it was the last thing she said before her world grew dark.

perhaps some people saw it as a miracle, but she only felt guilt. she had somehow made it to liyue harbour alive, and this time as a vision wielder. growing accustomed to the life of the people in liyue, she embraced it rather than pushed it away, in hopes of the lingering reminder of her sister fading. though, she likes to think that she just had a knack for getting herself chased out of nations for things she did not do- or have. that was how she ended up in the forests of mondstadt, exploring and seeking shelter in what she had left.

though, she had made an interesting discovery after having a blonde boy sneak up on her. it was rather interesting, the way they met. she had almost killed him, but lowered her guard as soon as she saw his attire and apologized profusely.

“you… don’t look like you’re from here…” the question seemed to make the stranger nervous, giving the back of his neck a nervous scratch before responding.

“well… you see…”

a/n: erm hi i know her backstory on how she got chased out of liyue was not very detailed but i really didn’t want this to be too long pls bear w me hehe

anon said: um hi!! you said you wanted some requests, and i came up with an idea! would i be able to request a mona fic where the reader is rlly spontaneous and a risk-taker but they have terrible judgment, and because of her abilities, she basically has a sixth sense that tells her when her s/o is about to do something kinda stupid? i think it would be a cute dynamic :,)

hi anon!! this is such a cute dynamic omg ur mind ‍♀️‍♀️ i dont really have much to say besides i hope yall like this!! i also hope its what you expected anon! BTW CHILDE RERUN IM AAAAAAAAAAAA

word count: 870

warnings: none!

fluff, slight crack

you were always a very spontaneous person.

it wasn’t something awful, but it wasn’t something great either. while it helped you with some kinds of stuff, it could be a curse on itself too. you suddenly felt a strong urge to eat vegetarian abalone in the middle of the night, but you had no matsutake nor snapdragon? fear not, why not go to the outskirts of springvale to get some matsutake, maybe near that hilichurl tribe there, and then go to windrise to get some snapdragon?

and that’s exactly what you were doing right now.

maybe some could call you a risk-taker, but you wouldn’t really say that. you just really wanted vegetarian abalone, and it isn’t going to make itself, right? you’re not gonna run into anything dangerous, of course. if anything, you knew how to defend yourself, you just happened to run into a lot of dangerous situations very quickly, but that had nothing to do with your spontaneity, or so you thought.

it was in one of those dangerous situations that you met mona, the astrologist whom you sometimes read her columns in newspapers. you were just strolling around starsnatch cliff, looking for some flowers to make a flower crown, when you plucked a sweet flower and suddenly, a pyro whopperflower appeared! thankfully, mona was also strolling around that area, and quickly defeated the whopperflower.

she then told you that you should’ve been more careful, because, if not for her accurate previsions, you’d be in serious danger. what she didn’t tell you, though, was that she made no prevision — she just felt something was wrong, and started to look around to see what was wrong.

you ended up giving her the flower crown you’ve been making as a thank you gift, and that’s how your relationship with mona megistus started.

maybe it was fate, mona thought at the time. it was then that this so-called “sixth sense” of mona started to happen. she would make absolutely no previsions, and yet she could know when you were about to do something you’d really regret later. be it buying a new expensive book in impulse, just so it ended with you not even liking it or reading it after 20 pages, or be it you getting yourself in some really dangerous situation without your knowledge.

in any case, the moment you arrived in windrise, mona woke up in a cold sweat.

wait, something is wrong, she thought. she looked over to the clock on her wall — 1 am. mona thought of going back to sleep, since she fell asleep on her desk, writing the next column of the newspaper, but she could sense something was about to happen. after shaking off the initial sleepiness, she quickly realized what it was about.y/n!

mona quickly got up and got her weapon — just in case. then, she teleported to windrise, near the statue of the seven. she looked around, frantically searching for you. after some seconds of searching, she finally spotted you.

you were near the river, looking for snapdragons. as you looked over, there was something sticking out of the dirt, and it looked like a radish. it wouldn’t hurt to get some radish, right? you thought, making your way to remove it from the ground. as you were about to pluck it, mona screamed at you.

“y/n, wait! that’s a-”

as you retreated your hand from the alleged plant, you heard a noise coming from it. suddenly, it jumped from the ground, and you yanked back, reaching for your weapon.

“…dendro slime”

mona teleported herself near you, fighting the slime with ease and defeating it quickly. thankfully, it was a small one, not the big ones that live near windrise. she turned around after defeating it, looking at you with a deadpan — and slightly sleepy — face.

“y/n, we’ve talked about this before” she proclaimed, crossing her arms in slight worry. “it’s 1 am! what are you trying to do here?”

“…vegetarian abalone?” you replied, trying to make a cute face to convince her it’s totally fine to go out at 1 am to collect vegetables. but you knew the way to win her heart again. “do you want some? it’s completely free, from yours truly”

mona looked around, trying to pretend her stomach was not growling and she wasn’t interested. “hmmm… maybe i’ll accept the offer. but please, don’t go out at 1 am unaccompanied again! if it wasn’t for my previsions, you’d be screwed” she proclaimed, trying to sound angry, but your cute face was just too much for her.

“…ehe?” you replied, knowing what she was saying was true. but what could you do? that vegetarian abalone wasn’t gonna be made by itself.

“what are you saying ‘ehe’ for?! you’re lucky i love you a lot” mona crossed her arms again, until the realization of what she had said hit her. she started to blush and cough, and you wouldn’t waste this opportunity. you both made your way back to mondstadt with your ingredients in hand, playful mockings and a free meal for mona.

maybe this sixth sense isn’t so bad.

soulmate au; where time stops for a few seconds when you first touch your soulmate.

gathering herbs was never an easy task, but it was necessary.

as a healer and a bubu pharmacy employee, it was quite normal. it came with the job, after all. so, here you were, walking around in the eerie abandoned village in wuwang hill. although it was daytime, the fog and darkness in the region made it hard to see things from a distance, making you walk around helplessly as you looked for some violetgrass.

you didn’t particularly liked being here, but it was your job. the mysterious atmosphere made you quite scared, especially as you were completely alone, since qiqi went to mingyun village to gather her share of herbs. maybe if i had a soulmate, they could come with me, you thought. soulmates existed, but they weren’t quite that usual. maybe one in a hundred people had soulmates, at least in liyue.

they said time stopped when you first touched your soulmate, quite literally. and that’s how you knew someone was your soulmate — you just had to touch them.

just thinking about it made your heart flutter. having a soulmate who could help you when you’re scared seemed like a good deal. this hill was scary, and the feeling of not being able to see things properly made you anxious. if anything were to appear, like a hilichurl, you knew it would be hard to defeat it. you were a healer, not a fighter. it simply wasn’t really something you liked or enjoyed, so you didn’t really try to learn anything beyond the basics.

you suddenly hear a noise, snapping you out of your thoughts. it was something moving in the grass, but it was too foggy for you to identify what it was. there was something nearby, and you knew it. you looked around, finally spotting a silhouette.

as you reached for your weapon, the silhouette disappeared. the next thing you knew, you were on the ground.

you opened your eyes, whining in pain. now that it was closer to you, you could see it was a cryo whopperflower. you turned your head in fear and looked for your weapon, but it had been knocked out of your belt and was now laying on the ground, far away from you. even if you managed to get your weapon, it wouldn’t be of much use, since your hand and ankle hurt a lot from the fall.

as the whopperflower prepared itself for its next attack, you closed your eyes. is that it? you thought, the sudden realization hitting you. is this how i die?

suddenly, a warm breeze meets your skin. after a few seconds, you open your eyes, only to see the cryo whopperflower on the ground, defeated. you look around, finding a girl with brown hair with red tips.

she turned around to look at your frightened self, giving you a smile. she wore a hat with a symbol you knew you had seen before, and, as you digged through your mind to find out what it was, realization hit you. she was the director of the wangsheng funeral parlor, hu tao, as the hat indicated. you had heard of her, mostly from baizhu, who seemed to be always annoyed at the director’s persistence to give qiqi her final rest, but you had never really met her.

“hey there! what were you doing wandering around wuwang hill? it can be quite the dangerous place, you know…” hu tao stopped her sentence, looking at your injured hand.

she walked towards you, and then lowered herself, as if to check the injury.

“t-there’s no need to check, i’m a healer, i can just-” you said, holding your injured hand with your other hand, but stopped suddenly as she touched you.

a weird feeling made its way to your heart, and the wind seemed to stop blowing. hu tao felt that too, as you both looked around, only to find that everything was frozen in place. the grass, the leaves of the trees, even the animals in the area. you looked at hu tao, and she looked at you, both with widened eyes.

and, as you looked into her crimson eyes, time seemed to be back to normal, just as fast as it froze. yet, you couldn’t notice a thing.

you could only stare in surprise as she smiled softly.

“i’ve been waiting for you.”

anon asked: hiii! I was wondering if you could write a really angsty oneshot for kaeya with a happy ending? I’ll leave the plot to you but I’d love to see the reader get jealous cause he used to get around a lot >.< thank you!

hiii, it’s nice to be back for a while!! i hope it’s good enough for you, and that it’s what you hoped for!! sorry for the long time to write this, it’s because half of my family got covid + i moved to another city 2 days ago T-T ANYWAYS i hope y’all like it!! it isn’t the absolute best bc ive been writing less these days but its still something!!

ps. very loosely based on downpour by ioi. yall should listen to it ehehe

warnings: slight low self esteem, insecurity

sometimes, it was hard to breathe.

every time you went to the city plaza, just to find him sitting there chatting with a girl. every time you went to cat’s tail, to maybe get a nice drink, only to find another person flirting with him. every time you went to the knights of favonius’ headquarters, to look for him, instead finding a new recruit whispering something in his ear. and, each time, kaeya looked at you the same way, pretending nothing was happening before and giving you his signature smile as he walked towards you.

each time, you put up a smile and pretended nothing was happening.

because how could you say anything? it was his lifestyle, after all. it was what kaeya was known for, flirting around shamelessly and giving out compliments. it was something he was used to, and probably did without giving much mind to it. and yet, you managed to fall for him, knowing this would happen.

will it ever stop, this feeling? you thought as you stood outside in the cold, raindrops falling harshly against your skin. maybe he already knew what was happening, and didn’t care. maybe he didn’t, but nothing would happen if you told him anyways. why would he ever stop because of you? you were one amongst many.

as you walked around the city, the usually bustling streets were now empty, shops and restaurants closed. nobody to notice you there, walking around melancholically. maybe, deep down, you wished someone would notice, someone would stop, someone would help. deep down, you wished it was him to stop and help. to ask what’s wrong, to listen to your selfish thoughts. but nothing would come out of it, you reminded yourself.

after some time in the rain, you were feeling tired. maybe it was time to go home and take a nice, warm bath, you thought. to lay down in your bed and indulge in impossible fantasies. maybe that would make you feel better, for now.

and yet, when you arrived, there was a tall figure standing at your doorstep.

somehow, no words were necessary. kaeya knew what was going on — he always knew. as you stopped, he walked towards you, not minding the strong rain, and pulled you into a hug. he was warm, caring and affectionate as always. it made you remind yourself why you liked him in the first place. his smile, his warmth, everything. it made the cold rain become warm tears, and fall down your cheeks. maybe you didn’t need to feel that way — because he would always come back to you.

and perhaps, this was just a passing downpour.

protecting liyue was no easy task, but there was one task that xiao deemed to be even more difficult than that.

learning how to love.

of course, xiao knew what gratitude felt like — it was the only feeling that kept him going, kept him fighting, kept him living. he knew what anger felt like. he knew what anguish felt like. yet, love was a foreign word in xiao’s vocabulary; how could he find something he wasn’t even worthy of? he had slaughtered for millenia. he was bound to suffering and pain. what kind of love is there for someone like him?

and yet, when you came along, all his ideals were thrown out of the window. you taught him what affection was, you taught him the sweetness of life and countless other things. at first, xiao demanded you stay away from him — for there is only suffering for those who stay by his side. somehow, his demands and glares were not enough to keep you away. with time, he grew accustomed to your presence, waiting for you each night to enjoy a bowl of almond tofu together.

xiao could even say he appreciated you.

so, when presented with the quest of learning how to love, xiao didn’t know what to do. was he really worthy of your love? you were better off with a mortal like you, a mortal who doesn’t carry the weight of the karmic debt xiao has to endure each moment, a mortal who can give you more. and yet, every time he said that to you, you just hugged him tight, and assured him you wouldn’t go anywhere so soon.

maybe, after all, he wouldn’t take you for granted. how could he, when you loved him as he was?

and with that, xiao noticed something: maybe it didn’t matter if he was worthy of love or not. he had you by his side, and that’s all that mattered. his anger could be washed away when near you, his fears completely dispersed. even if you were to eventually leave, he wouldn’t change, because you are engraved in his heart.

maybe xiao had learned to love, after all.

zhongli

it was a peculiar feeling, this thing mortals called jealousy.

it was an overwhelming feeling as well, consuming every part of zhongli’s mind, only growing stronger with the passing of time. his throat felt tight, along with the million words he wanted to say to your pursuiter, but never came out. what was this feeling, after all? zhongli had never felt this before, and he made a mental note of studying this so-called “jealousy” afterwards.

zhongli sipped his tea once again, looking at you, who was talking to your friend. it was quite obvious what was happening, even for zhongli — your friend wanted to ask you out, and wouldn’t take “no” for an answer. you weren’t even that close to this friend, as you had met them a few weeks ago and since then, they had been infatuated with you. zhongli couldn’t blame them for being infatuated, as he could say the very same thing about himself. but this? this was too much.

“y/n, are you really sure you don’t wanna go out today? perhaps tomorrow, or even later? i’d be willing to wait, you know” they said, apparently oblivious to your uncomfort.

they already knew about zhongli too, and yet didn’t seem to care at all he was there to watch it all. before their arrival, you both were drinking some tea at heyu tea house, enjoying the performances as zhongli told you curious facts about liyue. everything was fine before, so why did they have to show up?

“ah… i’m quite busy recently, i’m afraid I won’t be able to hang out with you…” you replied, turning back to sit again with zhongli.

yet, that rascal decided to grab your wrist as you were leaving, and that was the breaking point to zhongli. he slowly put down his tea and got up, having enough of this discussion. your friend backed up a little bit, but tried to maintain his facade. you were confused, too. zhongli was a peaceful and polite man, but you couldn’t see the usual calm in his eyes.

“aren’t you aware they are saying ‘no’? shall you still bother them with such idle chatter?” he said, staring into your friend’s eyes. your friend never heard zhongli talk, but it seemed like being questioned by him made them quite frightened. “or should i explain what ‘no’ means?”

your friend gulped, staring between you and zhongli back and forth. they surely hadn’t anticipated zhongli would step up, and he knew it. maybe seeing the tall man make his way towards them was enough to make them feel afraid, and maybe cornered. perhaps then they would stop bothering you?

“uhm… yes, now that i look at it, you don’t seem interested… sorry for bothering you, y/n” your friend said, and quickly made their way out of the tea house.

you looked at zhongli and gave him a mischievous smile, knowing fully well what had happened. he only smiled back, the usual calm coming back to his eyes now that your pursuiter was gone. zhongli grabbed your hand and guided you back to the table, sitting beside you with a relaxed figure.

“it seems like the tea is still warm. well then, shall we continue with the tales of liyue?”

albedo

albedo never thought he’d be doing something like this.

this was just supposed to be a short trip to the library, albedo thought. but what am i doing? he wondered, pushing himself to the darkest and most hidden corner he could find, just so he could hear what was happening. he was quite surprised to hear your voice while looking for some alchemy textbooks sucrose asked him to get for her, and was about to greet you, until he heard another voice. now, albedo was stuck between two bookshelves, trying to perhaps find out what this was about.

“…but this is so interesting to hear! say, do you have more to tell me about sumeru academia?” you said, voice full of excitement. it was one of the things he liked about you, your endless excitement over the smallest things.

maybe this was considered eavesdropping, and albedo knew it. but it’s for research reasons, of course, he thought. it was always a research, everything involving you. it was a research for both you and him, as he was quite new to all these feelings he suddenly found himself having. albedo wasn’t one for relationships, but everything you did… it was fascinating. it made him want to give it a try, for once. maybe it wasn’t a waste of energy and time if it was you, after all.

“i’d love to tell you more! what you say, we go out for a date- i mean, a dinner, and i could tell you more-” the voice said, but a sudden loud noise made the library ground tremble.

you stopped listening and went to look for the source of noise with worry, just to find textbooks on the ground, next to albedo’s emotionless figure. seeing your face, albedo let out a small smile, which quickly disappeared at the sight of your other companion, a young sumeru scholar who had just showed up in mondstadt. you lower yourself, trying to help him with the mess he had just made. this was unlike him, and he knew you knew, but maybe albedo just accidentally stumbled over himself and let the books fall, right?

“hi, albedo! didn’t see you there, are you fine?” he quickly nodded with a slight smile, lowering himself as well to help with his own mess.

maybe it was subconscious, but his hand quickly made its way to yours, brushing it lightly while grabbing the books. you looked at him with blushed cheeks, while he kept on collecting the books, trying to hold a smile. you quickly recollected yourself, grabbing the rest of the heavy textbooks.

“do you need help taking these to sucrose?” you offered, to the sumeru scholar’s dismay. he was about to protest, until albedo looked at him for a brief moment, and then back to you.

“i’d enjoy your help, if you don’t mind” he replied.

albedo knew he was fully capable of lifting those books alone, but who was he to deny your help? and he needed to find out why his heart felt so tight when you were next to the scholar. maybe he could make some notes about these feelings later. as you two left the library, you replied with a soft “i’m sorry, but i think i’ll pass” to the sumeru scholar. albedo’s heart felt lighter, and now he could focus on accompanying you.

after all, time spent with you was never lost time.

xiao

anguish.

seeing you with another person, oblivious to their blatant flirting, gave him anguish. it was just a normal night at wangshu inn, you had brought xiao some almond tofu and was about to leave, until some merchant from fontaine stopped you to start some small talk. you, of course, dropped everything you were doing and started talking. how could you just carelessly stop to talk with some random merchant? what if he was dangerous? thoughts concerning your safety went through xiao’s head like a hurricane.

no, he wasn’t jealous, he was just concerned about this stranger — or at least that’s what he would like to think.

one minute passed. then five. and then twenty. xiao had enough at this point, as only his gaze wasn’t enough to intimidate the pesky merchant, and you looked fairly tired of talking. the adeptus made his way to the both of you, your eyes immediately shifting towards him with curiosity. he wasn’t one to show many emotions and he knew it, but this was too much. the merchant looked at xiao with annoyance as he tried to grab your attention once more.

“y/n” xiao said, and you looked at him with confusion in your eyes. “i see you’re tired. do you wish for me to accompany you through your way home?”

you looked very confused. xiao never offered to do something like that before, and he knew you were wondering. “i wouldn’t like for you to run into any monsters, that is” he added quickly, making you look at him with even more confusion. yes, he knew you could fend for yourself, and at first he didn’t mind your presence much, but you had grown to become something he cherished. so, it was only normal for him to offer to take you home, right?

maybe this will be enough to scare him off, xiao thought. and yet, he was wrong.

“actually, i was thinking the same-” the merchant started to say, but suddenly stopped at the feeling of xiao’s gaze on him. maybe it had finally worked, staring at him with unmatched anger. “oh no! i just remembered i have something really important to do! see you, y/n!” and, with that, the merchant was quickly gone.

xiao could only sigh in relief.

childe

childe was jealous, and that was obvious to everyone around him.

both of you were strolling around liyue harbor, enjoying one of his rare off duty days. it was a sunny day, the breeze was nice and the streets were bustling with people looking around shops and enjoying their day. everything was perfect, the way your hands intertwined, the way you laughed at his flirtatious jokes, the way your hair flowed with the wind.

so why had your ex suddenly appeared?

it was funny, really. your ex didn’t even recognize childe, neither as your current boyfriend or one of the fatui harbingers. if he did notice you both were having a date, he was surely happy to intervene. it made childe’s eye twitch slightly out of annoyance, but his facade was perfect. well, almost.

it was his body language that made it clear for you. the way he held your hand slightly more tight, as if you were going to leave him at any moment. the way his stare made its way between you and your ex, switching between you both constantly. it was clear that he was annoyed, but you couldn’t do much about it, as your ex just wouldn’t stop talking. he would ask you about your family, about your current occupation, about the present. you were quite uncomfortable, but what could you do? just turn away and go?

on childe’s mind, that’s exactly what you should do, but he knew you were way too polite to do something like that. so, he waited. for a while, that is. as the conversation seemed to have no end and you seemed quite uncomfortable, childe decided it was time to intervene.

“hey comrade, i’m sorry to interrupt but me and y/n were about to go eat something together, i believe they must be quite hungry, right?” he looked at you, and you instantly nodded, noticing his quick plan to get rid of your ex.

“oh? i’m sorry, who are you? we are having a conversation here, if you can’t tell” you ex replied, and something sparked in childe’s eyes.

it wasn’t anger, but rather amusement.

“my name is childe, but i also go by tartaglia. nice to meet you!” as childe said his name, he noticed a sudden fear in your ex’s eyes. he retracted back, looking at the other like an alien.

“t-tartaglia, you say?” your ex said, and childe nodded enthusiastically. this is fun, he thought. your ex turned to you, looking frightened by your current boyfriend. “ah, i’m sorry, y/n, but i suddenly remembered this thing i have to do… farewell!” he said, quickly making his way away from you both with trembling legs.

after your ex left, you looked to childe and suddenly burst out laughing. he followed, laughing heartily as well. and you two continued your date, thankfully without any interruptions this time.

author’s notes: hiii so this is my first post here ever  i’m not very used to tumblr tbh, but i really enjoy writing, so i hope yall enjoy this too!! if u see any kind of mistake pls let me know bc english isn’t my first language ehehehe

the night sky was always beautiful in liyue, but today it was even more astonishing.

as the wind blew away the lanterns scattered in the sky, whispers of silent wishes made their way to the heavens, carrying with them countless hopes and dreams. elders and children alike wrote down their wishes and released their lanterns as high as possible, hoping that the skies would listen to their deepest desires, and maybe give them a chance. you and keqing were no different.

as you and her matched your footsteps against the grass, carrying with each of you a xiao lantern, she could only wish this moment would last forever. the way the grass tickled your bare feet, the way the light breeze let your hair flow carelessly, the way your hand brushed lightly against her soft skin. it was perfect, but it was also too rare for you both to have moments like that, so who could blame keqing for wishing it never ended?

as you both sat on the ground, she turned around to look at you. as you looked at her, keqing wondered. i look at your eyes, and yet i can’t see the end to their depth. for the both of you, no words were necessary. it was the way you reflected in her eyes, it was the way keqing reflected in your eyes. keqing’s hands made their way to her lantern, eyes quickly making their way between the lantern and you.

“have you already written down your wish?” keqing asked, and you nodded with a soft smile. “then, shall we release them?”

as she was about to release her lantern, you held her hand, signaling for you both to release them at the same time. keqing could feel warmth coming to her hand, a warmth she could only treasure and enjoy for the moment. work always calls, but she was grateful for being able to enjoy this moment with you.

as you both released your lanterns near the entrance of liyue harbor, the moon illuminated your features in a way keqing wished she would never forget. your hands were still together, and, if it depended on keqing, they would be forever. you both walked towards the harbor, intending to enjoy some food together and spend whatever time she had left together. and, as keqing turned away from the lanterns, she could only think to herself.

regardless of what today or tomorrow holds, i can only wish to be by your side.

SUMMARY: you punched his main target’s child, how would he react?

FEATURING: diluc, kaeya, childe, zhongli and ayato

WARNINGS: mentions of reader punching someone and cursing

NOTE: spy x family au woooooo!!!! :D i’m sorry if anything in these didn’t make any sense i was writing this at 11:50 pm :( this is just for fun though :D

DILUC

he was definitely crying inside. this man literally thought that he warned you enough and that nothing would go wrong—but you still punched his target’s child instead of just holding it back? he knows that you’re probably so done with the kid that you can’t help but punch him but STILL!- he just sighed very loudly and forced himself to smile at you. “how was school today?” if you answered him honestly, he would just forget about it and just ignore the first red flag of his mission and he would ask you to apologise to him—because it’s wrong and it’s not elegant but if you chose to lie to him, he would just nod and smile and think about getting a new kid (it’s a joke he won’t).

KAEYA

he was pretending to be a janitor and he heard how his target’s son bullied you (don’t worry the kid didn’t bully you, kaeya was just too worried that he called it bullying and besides, the kid has a crush on you so there’s no way he’s going to bully you). kaeya was internally cheering on you and wishing for your patience and sanity to be longer—but your patience was so thin that your sanity just went “bye!” and BOOM! you punched the kid and he went FLYING across the hallway /hj he was so shocked that he just went home and thought about his life choices. hours passed and when you knocked in the door, he opened it with a smile. if you weren’t a mind reader, you would think that he’s smiling at you genuinely. but if you read his mind—he’s screaming and panicking. i just know that this man is a perfectionist /j and seeing this MAJOR RED FLAG (you and what you did) makes him wanna pass out but he still greeted you happily.

CHILDE

i bet he was the one who taught you how to punch someone HARD in the face. it was supposed to be used in emergencies but THAT GUY deserves to be in the emergency room after all those things he did to you. when you come home, like diluc—he’s going to ask you “how was school?” and he won’t be mad at you, in fact, he’s very proud that he taught you that (you delivered a very good punch) and will be celebrating it with you! he’ll buy you whatever you want and spoil you! (fuck the mission- he’ll let this slide because you’re just too cute and his efforts paid off!). but you’ll have to practise apologising after that.

ZHONGLI

the calm one. like others, he would ask you how your school was. he doesn’t care if you lie to him or not because he was literally disguising himself as your history teacher and of course, you know that and you forced yourself to do good in “his class”. and i bet this man would be there to stop you before you could get to punch the kid. (but if you did punch the kid, he won’t do anything about it and just sigh). expect to be scolded though. apparently, you didn’t do very well at history and he also saw your test papers. (he’s also the type to make you apologise to the kid because of his mission and he also doesn’t want you to get tonitrus striked).

AYATO

smiling through the pain. he’s definitely a perfectionist and seeing a part of his plan fail (basically you befriending his target’s kid) makes him want to go and execute the plan alone. but that won’t happen because he can’t disguise himself as a kid (and he got TOO attached to you) so he’ll just report this to the headquarters and mark it as a minor problem (he trusts you) and like zhongli, he’ll ask you to apologise to the kid (don’t worry he’s not mad! just ignore everything he’s saying in his mind and watch your favourite spy cartoon on the tv)

CHILDE:

“(Y/N)!” Childe calls out lovingly from the kitchen when he hears you enter your shared apartment. His voice never fails to provide you a sense of comfort and love despite how miserable and stressed out you are right now.  "How was your da-“

And yet, today indeed took a toll on you— more than it should.

"Terrible.” You interject, throwing your body into the closest cushion you could find, slowly sinking into the couch. “I feel like absolute shit. I think my professor is out to make my life a living hell."

"C'mere.” He tugs at your hand, dragging you out of the couch as you let out a begrudging moan, falling gracefully into his arms. “Want me to kick his ass?” He proposes.

“Sure. Want to get expelled?"

"I’m kidding. I’m kidding.” He tousles your hair, combing his fingers through your scalp to help ease your stress. “I know I’m pretty intense, but not that intense."

"Mhm.” You internally roll your eyes, cooing in delight as he continues to pamper you with unprompted massages. “Just let me c-cuddle with you… for a while.” You drawl.

There’s a moment of silence as Childe pulls you over to the couch again, your sad and clingy self still wrapped tightly around him, like a cute sloth clinging onto a tree branch. All is well, and you could honestly make do with spending the night in his arms.

But… he had other plans.

“Bingo!” Childe has a eureka moment as he claps his hands together, sitting up from the couch and gently placing you to the side. “Take a hot shower first, then come back to the living room, ‘kay?” He plants a kiss on your forehead, which undeniably soothes you to a momentary peace. “I’ll have a surprise waiting for you after.”

“Fine. Fine. Fine.” You sigh exasperatedly, lulling your head at the edge of the couch. “This is going to be one of those somber types of showers, so expect me to be out in 40 minutes because I’ll be moping on the shower floor and listening to sad music.”

He chuckles. “It’ll be ready by then."

Forty minutes finally pass by as you leave your bedroom in comfy pajamas, a clearer mind, and in a less weird headspace. You do as you are told and make a beeline for the living room, an array of surprises waiting for you.

"Surprise!” Childe jumps out from behind the couch, confetti spreading everywhere, and balloons rise to the ceiling. Your eyes dart to the table in front of him and notice your favorite home-cooked ramen, Boba for dessert, new books (you have been dying to read) neatly wrapped at the side, a cute stuffed teddy bear holding a pin that says “I Wuv U. Get better soon!” and a potted hydrangea you’ve been eyeing at the store for quite a while now. It was the ultimate comfort package made in about Forty minutes. How was he able to do this?

“Oh my god.” You exclaim in awe, blissful wonderment gleaming in your eyes. “C-childe… This is…”

“Do you like it?” He grins, confident at the fact that his surprise was a success. “It was hard having to jump from one store to the next whilst trying not to burn the ramen, but I did it!” He points to himself, beaming with pride. “Your boyfriend did it!”

“Thank you.” Your voice grows hoarse, yet Childe could note nothing but love and appreciation embedded into your words. “This means a lot to me.” You run into his arms before he could even fully approach you, burying your face into his chest. “Thank you for making an otherwise shitty day so much brighter.”

He chuckles once again, stroking the back of your head. “Anything for you. It’s alright to feel like shit sometimes, but always know that I’m here, alright?”

“Always?”

“Always.”

KAEYA:

“Kaeya."

"What’s up, babe?”

“Which one would you like to use?” Holding on to two different kinds of Korean face masks, you ask for his opinion. “The Avocado one?” You raise a mask sheet designed with green accents. “Or the Pomegranate one?” You lift the other composed of dark accents.

“I’ll go with the Avocado.” He gingerly pulls the green mask from your hand. “I chose this not because of its healing properties, but because of that one vine. That Fresh Avocadoe one.” He jokes nonchalantly, hoping for your amusing response, yet he does not get one.

You merely chuckle at his witty jest, shaking your head suspiciously. “Pfft. That’s pretty funny.” You sit down beside him, trying to further conceal the sadness you were hiding from within. “Can’t believe you remember that vine, though.”

And so, he knew something was off.

“(Y/N).” He calls out sternly. He sighs, beckoning you to scoot closer to him. “If anything is going on right now, I’m here for you. You can tell me anything.”

Your body visibly trembles as you move closer to your indigo-haired lover. Kaeya opens his arms for you to crawl into, his hands hidden underneath your matching sweater paws, deep cerulean eyes ever so stark and bright.

You try to keep it in- but you can’t. You break.

A waterfall of tears unceremoniously streaks down your face as soon as Kaeya envelops you in his arms. “I don’t feel like existing right now.” You murmur, resting your head on his shoulder. “Can the world just stop moving for a second? I can’t keep up. I feel like I have no purpose."

”(Y/N) my Love…“ He gently strokes your cheek, gesturing you to look up at him. A serious look written all over his face, yet his eyes filled with kindness. "Even on these bad days and nights where everything feels lost, you still have purpose. It has been inside you since the day you were born. That passionate and feisty human being that I fell in love with. A tiny firefly born from the light of the universe. There is a world of reason and hope inside you—an entire library of thoughts, memories, and emotions. For all the moments that steal your hope and your wonder, remember the universe intended for you to happen. I’m here for you until the end of our days. I’ll never let go."

Absolutely flabbergasted over Kaeya’s sweet (which are usually coquettish) and genuine words, you bury your face even deeper to hide the heat creeping up to your cheeks. Your voice muffled. "I don’t deserve you, Kaeya.”

“Well…” There’s a particular suggestive tone to his voice. “I mean, I am Kaeya Alberich. The most dashing man to ever-”

“Oh. Forget I ever said anything.”

“I was just kidding!”

DILUC:

The downpour of heavy rain was a perfect match to your current mood.

Amidst the current storm happening outside that brought nothing but bad news, your professor finally released the midterm results you’ve been waiting for so long. Unfortunately, despite studying hard for the test, the results were appalling.

This wouldn’t be an issue if you crammed all of the lessons into your brain, but no. You prepared for this. You poured your blood, sweat, and tears into acing this exam. But… why did you get a below-average grade? Does your professor hate you or?

“Diluc….” You groan, dragging yourself into the living room where your boyfriend was seated on the couch, wearing his cute rimmed spectacles (the literal embodiment of a handsome dork) and his computer practically glued to his lap. “What grade did you get on our Mondstadt History test?”

“I got a 4.0.” He responds casually, taking off his reading glasses and putting them back in their case. “What about you?”

“Well, I g-got a…” Your words trail off as you turn your eyes to the phone and gaze back at him. “A 2.0.” Your lips curl to a frown as you throw yourself to the couch, hurrying over to lay on his lap and bury your face on a pillow. “I worked so hard for this test. I didn’t expect this at all! What did I do wrong!? Am I just not enough to academically please Professor Venti!? Am I not cool enough to have a huge group of friends and be invited to cool college parties!?"

The thunder roars, the lightning flashes, and the rain grows stronger as soon as you finish venting to Diluc. You were never one to put too much thought into simple frustrations, but this little predicament indeed brought you to the edge.

"You are enough.” Diluc whispers, emphasizing his words in his usual stern but loving tone. “You’re strong and beautiful, and the way you present yourself or the number of friends you have doesn’t change how big your heart is.” Diluc begins to grow flustered as he continues, “Your hair looks nice, and so do your eyes, and the way you eat a half tub of ice cream is… sexy as hell. You are the most important person in my life, and in times that you feel as if you’re not worth it all, trust me. You’ll always be enough for me.”

A cheeky smile forms on your lips as you look up to gaze into his starry crimson eyes. Wrapping your arms around the crook of his neck, you plant a kiss on his lips.

“Thanks.” You give him another peck. “I really needed that."

ZHONGLI:

Zhongli has his day off from classes today, whereas you had one from 12 to 3 pm.

Which also meant that it was his time to do the chores around the apartment. Not that he didn’t mind, though, although he’d love to do things as mundane as this if he were doing it with you. Doing the laundry, buying groceries, and cleaning the house… There was never a dull moment if he got to spend it with you.

Whilst he was cleaning the bedroom, he stumbled upon a crumpled piece of paper on your side of the desk. Written on it were doodles of sad little faces, a cute drawing of him hugging you with a cup of tea in between the both of you, and words that spelled out "I wish this class would end.

I’m so tired that I just want to sleep for a million years and just cuddle with Zhongli ” He then deduced that you had written this in one of your Psych classes that you were also taking today.

Wanting to cheer you up, he decides to make a little surprise for you in the most Zhongli way he can.

“Z-Zhongli?” You call out in an exasperating tone. “I’m home.”

No reply.

Shrugging to yourself, you walk straight into the bedroom, hoping he’s there reading a book, yet he isn’t. After dropping your things, you walk into the kitchen, hoping he’s cooking some bamboo shoot soup, but he isn’t there either.

“Zhongli?” You call out again.

Then, you hear a knock from outside. Turning around to look for where the sound may come from, you see your graciously tall boyfriend knock from behind the glass door leading to the balcony.

He then bows, scooting to the side to see what he has prepared for you—bamboo shoot soup for two, your favorite herb relieving tea, and an envelope wrapped with a ribbon.

Pushing the door aside, you walk up to him as a tired smile forms on your face. Your worries were slowly washed away.

“I prepared a little something for you.” He announced. Gentlemanly pulling out your seat so you can plop down comfortably. “Along with a short poem.”

You tilt your head at him, reaching out for the golden brown envelope before you as you begin to read its contents.

I wish I could do more than kiss your tiredness away.

I wish I were a celestial being from the skies— One of the seven archons of the past so that I may wish your worries away with a wave of my finger.

But… you must know. These feelings do not make you weak or clingy or overly emotional. They make you strong, brave, and beautiful. You are not merely made of stardust; you are the comet streaking through the sky on the way to do good and bright things. You are a blessing to this world. A divine gift that only a few may appreciate at this time, but know this: Your tiredness is temporary. You will do great things, and I will always be right behind you. For whenever you may fall and whenever you may falter, I will help you stand up once again.”

XIAO:

At the dead of the night, his phone rings.

Xiao was not the type of person to answer calls or messages, especially at 3 in the morning. It was undoubtedly uncharacteristic of him. Given, he was awake and had harrowing thoughts that kept him up at night, but he didn’t want to entertain anyone else when he lies on his bed and contemplates life while staring at the blinking fairy lights taped to the edges of his ceiling.

Then, he sees the Caller ID.

It’s you.

His most beloved– The most precious soul to ever walk into his life. You are the only one to have made his heart love in the most inexplicable ways despite all the mistakes he has made.

He immediately picks up.

“Xiao?” Your voice is frail and quiet from the other line. “Are you awake?”

“Yeah, I am. What’s wrong?”

“I’m just worried about the future, you know. I want to be free and see places. But… I feel as if it’s impossible.” You reply, your voice growing more agitated. “Can you play My Heart Will Go On on the flute for me, please?”

“I know that’s a meme, (Y/N).” He snaps, shaking his head at your attempt to make a joke. “I’m not that dumb, you know.”

“Well… can you sing me a lullaby then?”

He sighs. But you know he’ll give in anyway. “Fine."

With a clear of his throat, you hear his voice grow louder as if he was speaking directly through his phone’s mic. Then, he begins.

"I guess I’ll have to face that in this awful place, I shouldn’t show a trace of doubt… But pulled against the grain, I feel a little pain, That I would rather do without… I’d rather be Free-ee-ee from here.”

Hoping for a pleasant reaction, Xiao receives silence. That one gets when the person on the other line had fallen asleep. It was peaceful. Tranquil. He could imagine your sleeping figure now, lulled to sleep by his sweet lullaby.

Xiao shook his head once again, a ghost of a smile present on his face. “Goodnight (Y/N). I love you. I hope I was able to ease your worries away… and I hope I’ll be able to ease more to come.”

Hey guys, sorry I haven’t been posting often, I’ll get something out this week, I promise, but I need to ask a question.

If I were to start posting for other fandoms, which ones would you want? Should I make a second blog for other fandoms or no? I think this blog may be getting a little too crowded with fandoms, but if I should put them all into one that’s fine!

please take this poll to answer some questions, I would love if my followers could contribute to this! https://forms.gle/LTfzNquV3xhmkaJ26

  • At the tavern with a good drink in hand, you sat very close to Kaeya enjoying the company and the music from the various bards performing. Whenever you let Kaeya touch you, his star-lit pupils noticed the way you jolted—your body not used to the cool temperatures that envelop his hands. He could only chuckle, strumming his fingers onto your thighs. It would be interesting if he could change his body temperature to the other parts of his body, not wouldn’t it?
  • When he finally got you home, his lips mashed with yours, slowly feeling you up as the burn of your arousal became creeping up. Kaeya could only coo and tease, noticing the translucent strings of your slick sticking onto your thighs and panties. His frosty vision lit up in an aquamarine hue, and his fingers pressed against your clit as you gasped loudly.
  • Your body trembled to feel him slide them along your nub, making it all that more sensitive as he watched your squirmed from underneath him. He continuously rubbed—gathering your sobbing juices coating his hand—before freeing his hardened cock from his tightening pants. You were so cute like this, mumbling how cold he was. You should know better than egg him on like this.
  • His nails hugged into the fat of your thighs, stretching you out wide to observe your sobbing folds as he nudged the tip of his length along your folds—with that same icy touch. The wet sounds of his length being coasted by your juices echoed out in the room as your lip trembled from your burning needy clit. He heard you whine out his name again as he chuckled, other hands flicking your pebbling nipples.
  • He thought you could handle the cold <3
  • Reading a book in the lap of Diluc, he couldn’t help smiling at your focused gaze. As he noticed the candlelight illuminating your features, his mind couldn’t help wandering to the wax dribbling down the stick.
  • He wonders what it would be like on your off skin, his hand warming the candle as each bit of wax makes you whine and jolt. He could help wish to press his lips against your back, near the wax staining it, telling you how well you’re doing for him and putting up with the heat. With his cock pressed hard against his pants, he could imagine taking his pants off, gliding his length along the plush of your ass, letting the tip nudge along your slit.
  • And yet he would still be heating up that wax, with the beautiful smell of lantern flowers and oils wafting from it. He couldn’t help but bring a smack down onto your ass hearing your call out his name as he noticed his handprint illuminating from the globe, the pain slightly amplified with the heat of his palms—bright vision illuminating on his side.
  • He never wanted to hurt you, he was your knight in shining armor, but he always wondered what it would be like if he got a bit rougher with you.
  • Snapping out of his thoughts he could only sigh feeling his cock rise and pink spread throughout his cheeks, with you still sat on his lap clueless about his fantasies and arousal. All he could do was wrap his arms around you, pushing you further on his clothed boner, hoping and praying you’ll pay attention soon.
  • Scaramouche could only smirk, eyes slightly slit up in an amethyst hue as bolts of electricity jolted out from his fingertips. You were so utterly cute to him, looking at the menace all doe-eyed, slightly turning your wrist bound by rope with your lips quivering in excitement and fear.
  • Brushing his lips against your ear, muttering how submissive and docile you were under his touch, his buzzing hands would pull at your nipples as the jolts of electricity scattered throughout your body. You could only moan out his name, struggling in the bounds wishing to hold him as he continued to prod at your oh so sensitive buds.
  • Even as his soft lips trailed down across your body, each kiss was greeted with another jolt of electricity. He could only sneer and chuckle watching your push your thighs together, desperate for some kind of attention towards your throbbing hip, and so he complied with your needs.
  • His hands pinched at your clit, as two fingers slowly dripped down into your sobbing hole, pushing back and forth with his power still on display causing you to wring in absolute pleasure. Scaramouche couldn’t believe how much you enjoyed this, with your fluttering walls clamping down hard on his fingers still thrusting inside of you.
  • He couldn’t even stop his hips, grinding on the edge of the bed with a maddening smirk on his face. The image of you, utterly helpless to his touch burned in his mind. He would be thinking about this for a long time.
  • Ayato was much more creative than people gave him credit for, you included. Gifted with a vision at a young age, Ayato was always exploring the depths and tricks he could use with hydro. As he was bored soaking in a hot spring with you, he couldn’t help lifting his hand from the water causing a tendril to form out of the very water he was in.
  • And a cruel smirk immediately fell onto his lips.
  • You were lifted up from the water, mouth covering your lips to hide any of your moans trying to leak out so as to not alert any of the servants lingering in the estate. Ayato commanded the tendril to slowly fill you up, watching in absolute amazement as your hole slowly opened up to him. His lips darted out, wishing nothing more than a taste of your pussy currently filled up.
  • It was so deep, stretching your walls out as it guided in and out of you at a brutally slow pace hitting the most sensitive areas inside of you.
  • He lifted his form from the water, slowly stroking himself off at the pace of the tendril filling you up. With his free hand, he managed to create more, as the glided along your breasts squeezing them tightly as another urged you to put your hand down. You did as Ayato lifted himself off, cock pressed up against your lips with a cunning smile.
  • Watching you slowly open your mouth, a hand on the base of his cock for the part you couldn’t fit—Ayato couldn’t help sigh in delight, placing a hand on your hair before commanding the tendrils to finally hear your plead to go faster. You were struggling to suck on his cock from the inhumane pace the tendrils were thrusting inside of you.
  • It’s never a boring day to Ayato, not if he can help it at least.
  • The wind always spoke to Kazuha, as if he could command with and listen to its whims. Although the mostly calm man appeared as the embodiment of wind, others didn’t realize the mischief nature wind seemed to have.
  • The wandering samurai had you pinned to a tree— his hand guided along the slick beginning to drip out from your pussy, your clothing all in disarray as to give Kazuha a better look and access to your ethereal form. As he finally disconnected his lips from yours with a string of saliva still connecting you two, you couldn’t help making a comment on how needy he was today. You laughed asking if he was that desperate to be inside of you after being gone for such a long time.
  • Kazuha could only sigh, cheeks becoming tinted in a slight pink hue. You didn’t know why, but he immediately turned you around, your wrist held high still pinned to the base of the tree. Kazuha leaned in, whispering how much of a tease you’re trying to be for him.
  • Before you could even make a statement, a quick blow of the wind caused you to gasp as it smacked against your ass with a quick but strong slight. As you tried turning your head, wondering just what happened, it occurred once more causing your body to vibrate in shock, pleasure and pain. You could only whine, as Kazuha chuckled still toying and rubbing circles across your clit.
  • Only when you could apologize would he tell the wind to stand down. For now, though, he will enjoy the beautiful sight of your ass jiggling to the strikes from the wind he was commanding.

this series will only be updated when im sick

hu tao farts in her sleep. she’s lactose intolerant but couldnt care less/forgets all the time (#relatable) so i think you can come to your own conclusions with that information…. ew.

the raiden shogun (ei) sleeps with her eyes open. she never actually “sleeps”, but its easier to describe how she rests as sleeping. she goes into REM with her eyes open and its the scariest thing you will ever see in your entire life.

ganyu basically falls off the bed because she refuses to be anywhere near you. dont take it personally, she’ll just lose her mind if you guys make any sort of physical contact.

yun jin is part of the snoring/sleep talking club! honestly you dont mind at all (if you do SHAME ON YOU jkjk unless….) her snoring is basically like singing idfk how she does it but her nose can sing???????? dont question me this is my account not yours

beidou’s arm will randomly move and smack you in the face. it stays there for the rest of your night and she doesnt know that she does it.

kaeya is a sleep hugger but to the point where its sO ANNOYING he has such a strong grip and you literally cant move at all. if you move as much as a centimeter, he will hug you impossibly tighter. kaeya scares me

razor falls asleep in the bed and always manages to make it onto the floor. he literally could sleep in the middle of the bed and manage to wake up face first on the floor.

How you had convinced Cloud Retainer to let you use her abode for your own getaway was beyond you. Maybe it was the fact that you brought food for her and kept her company religiously. You never went looking for her, she always came to you. You supposed you didn’t mind; her stories of Ganyu and Shenhe were always entertaining although you’d never breathe a word about it to them.

And she seemed to enjoy your food offerings. Usually it was jewelry soup or matsutake meat rolls, but every once in a while you brought an Inazuman or Mondstadt dish. Cloud Retainer never complained, but she never complimented these dishes like she did the Liyue ones. This was fine by you, you weren’t looking for her praise or favor, but you needed to switch it up sometimes.

Today, you had buttered crab and tricolor dango in protective wooden containers in your bag, along with a thermos of tea. The bag was slung over your shoulder and bounced along your side as you made your way up the mountain. Yes, there were teleport waypoints, but you preferred the exercise of climbing, and you could admire the scenery on the way up. In no time at all, you found yourself at the wooden bridge that led to the pools.

When you were across the wooden planks, you made your way to the stone table in the center of the pool and unpacked the food, setting it up nicely so that Cloud Retainer could eat it easily. Then, you poured the tea the way she liked it, with a little bit of honey and a little bit of lemon. You poured your cup first, so that hers would stay hot for longer, even if by a little bit.

“Good morning, Cloud Retainer,” you said quietly, sitting down on one of the stone chairs. You heard a delicate fluttering of wings and looked up from folding your hands in your lap to Cloud Retainer’s elegant blue and white wings settling on her body as she stepped closer to the table.

“Good morning, Zero,” she said. “You would agree with one that today is a rather fine day, would you not?”

You nodded, sipping on your tea. “There are few clouds in the sky, and it is a warm day. Surely this is a good omen?”

Cloud Retainer considered. Perhaps this was another reason the both of you got along so well: you spoke rather similarly. Or maybe you had just picked up on Cloud Retainer’s way of speaking as a way to stick around. Either way, you were grateful.

“Perhaps,” she stated eventually, “but this could mean no rain for farmers.”

You hadn’t thought of this, and told her so. Cloud Retainer looked at you with a thoughtful eye, but said nothing. Instead she turned to the food you had laid out and ate most of it, leaving a tricolor dango and a buttered crab leg for you. She then sipped her tea, staring out at the sky with you.

“Unfortunately, one must attend to one’s own personal matters today instead of keeping you company. One apologizes.”

You turned to her and set your cup down. “No worries, Cloud Retainer. I feel a quiet day is needed every once in a while.”

She nodded to you, and said a few more pleasantries before finishing her tea quietly and disappearing, off to do whatever needed ‘attending’.

You sat by the stone table for a few more minutes, finishing your food and tea before deciding that a quiet day at the top of a mountain was exactly what you needed that day. Yes, you loved the hustle and bustle of Liyue Harbor, but Mt. Aocang held a certain stillness that you craved.

You inhaled deeply, reveling in the scent of clear, fresh water and lush plant life around you. You suddenly felt too dirty from the trek up to be standing in a place like this, in an adepti’s abode, and got an idea. You looked around. No one but you was there, so why shouldn’t you take a bath? It wasn’t every day that you got an opportunity like this one, so you had to take advantage of it.

You quickly stripped off all of your clothes, leaving them in a neatly folded pile on one of the stone chairs before edging towards the water’s edge.

Although the air was warm and sunshine was quickly heating your back, the water was freezing when you stuck one foot in. You bit back a yelp and curled your toes in the warm sand, trying to figure out how to get in the water without chickening out. You looked at the stones that formed a path to the island you were standing on and winced at the idea.

The water was, thankfully, warmer on the stones since it was much shallower, and your feet quickly grew accustomed to the temperature as you hopped along, soaking up as much warm sunlight as you could. You figured there was no better way to get used to the cold, so that was what you did.

When you reached a stepping stone that seemed like it was in a deep enough area, you took a deep, bracing breath, and leapt in.

The cold was jarring. So much so, that you shrieked underwater and almost inhaled a lungful of water before you kicked yourself to the surface and coughed it up, gasping for air. You sputtered and flailed, paddling towards the stone you had just jumped off to haul your shivering body out of the water.

Archons, that was cold.

You shivered and hugged yourself, trying to regain any heat you could before dunking your body again and again. After a few minutes of gasping and dragging yourself in and out, you could stand the water’s icy temperatures. Your fingers and toes felt a little numb, but that was okay. A little numbness never hurt anybody. You shivered and sighed, floating on your back around the pool without a care in the world.

The cold water cleared your mind of all thoughts and worries, and you dunked your head under the water over and over again, doing your best to keep yourself moving. It all felt so… refreshing. To be free to swim and be naked under the sky without judgment…

This is what you imagined living in the city of freedom might feel like.

You shook yourself and swam to the shore, intent on sitting in the sun to dry off. Your toes wiggled in the slimy sand and… slimy?

You looked down to see milky white bubbles foaming at the water’s surface, and bent down to get a closer look. The water, although fresh, smelled a little cleaner and more vibrant here than in the middle. You scooped up a handful of the sand and swirled it around in your fingers, fascinated. It seemed almost soapy with the way it dissolved at your touch and water. Something clicked in your mind.

Sandsoap! You’d heard of it before, but had never seen it or used it. It was heavy and gritty, and foamed the more you rubbed your hands together. You laughed out loud, elated. You could have a proper bath!

You scooped up another handful and treaded out until the water was at your waist, then dunked your head and lathered the sand all over your hair, scrubbing until your hands were sore and tired. Then, you rinsed out your hair and shook it underwater. The nice thing about sandsoap was that it was natural, and wouldn’t sully the ecosystem in the pond.

You returned to shore to grab another handful, flexing your fingers and toes to try and stimulate your blood and regain feeling in them when you felt a presence in front of you, and looked up to see someone’s black boots shifting in the sand. Your gaze trailed higher to see a certain yaksha’s dangerous gaze on yours.

“Why are you here?” He asked, crossing his arms.

You shrugged, standing up to your full height. It felt a little weird to be naked in front of someone who absolutely wasn’t, but you weren’t ashamed of your body. “I’m here because I want to be. And I am naked, in case you weren’t aware.”

Xiao merely stared at you. You had known each other for a while, and you occasionally worked together taking care of monsters around Liyue. You visited him at Wangshu Inn, and he made the very, very rare trip into Liyue Harbor for you. You liked to consider him a friend, but now the prolonged eye contact felt a smidge awkward after a while.

“I hold no mortal prejudices on nudity,” was all he said, his eyes never straying from yours.

You nodded. “Neither do I. Why are youhere?”

Xiao made a small noise, debating on whether or not he should – could– tell you. Finally, he decided on, “Cloud retainer said she needed me.”

You blinked, tilting your head to the side. “Cloud Retainer told me she had ‘personal matters’ to attend to…”

You both stood still, waiting for the other to say or do something.

Eventually, you broke the silence. “She’s not here, I’m sorry.”

Xiao nodded, his sleeve fluttering as he turned to go. “I’ll go then. Apologies for interrupting.”

“Ah, w-wait-,” your mouth moved before you could process what you were saying, the water and sand swirling around your legs as you stumbled closer to shore. “You can stay, I don’t mind. If you have nothing better to do, you can wait for Cloud Retainer here.”

Xiao made a noise of protest. “And what do you propose I do while I wait?”

You thought for a moment, staring down into the clear water as your feet (almost nervously, which was not something you would’ve expected from yourself) churned up the sand. “You could take a bath with me.”

Xiao hesitated. His golden eyes flickered in consideration, and you opened your mouth to speak again, a little softer this time. “I remember you saying I could call your name if I ever needed help. I would appreciate your help now, if you’re willing to give it.”

“I suppose I could use a bath as well.”

You smiled, turning around to let him undress in peace. You heard the sound of clothes hitting the sand, then the rippling swish of water being disturbed. “While you’re by the shore, can you grab some of the sand? It’s soapy.”

Xiao automatically went to pick up a handful, the cold water pricking at his skin. The gritty sand was rough and grating on the softer skin of his palms, but it felt nice. “Where would you like me to start?”

You turned to look at him over your shoulder, staring at his hands. You had never seen them bare before, and now you noticed how delicately boned they were. His fingers were long and spindly, fragile-looking for a yaksha, but you quickly changed your mind when you felt him start to massage the sand onto your shoulders in small circles. He wasn’t rough by any means, but he definitely was digging his thumbs into the knots around your spine, making you groan and nearly jerk out of reach and arch back into his touch with each pass of his fingers.

You let out a particularly sharp gasp when he got to your neck, and he paused.

“Keep going,” you rasped, the looseness in your shoulders causing your brain to go fuzzy and weightless. “P-please.”

Xiao merely huffed an affirmative before he continued, washing you and forcing all of the muscles in your back to relax at the same time. You felt loose and… so incredibly at ease around him. You knew that if the need arose, Xiao wouldn’t hesitate to protect you, but it felt more personal — more intimate than just a sense of duty. Like he cared about you.

You didn’t think he would have agreed to join you if he didn’t like you.

Those first few minutes felt like an eternity, one you could have gladly stayed in, but then Xiao was bringing your arm up to scrub at that, then the next, and soon he was done with you and washing his own hair brutally. You turned around and winced, seeing him tug on the bluish strands without a care in the world. Cautiously, you reached your own hand out.

“Xiao,” you said clearly, having already cleared your throat a while ago to help regain your bearings. “Let me.”

He glanced up, still poised to roughly scrub at his head, golden eyes wide in surprise. You both stood still, waiting for the other to move.

“I can wash my own hair,” was all Xiao said.

You stifled a small scoff, not wanting to offend the Adeptus. “Yes, but you’re also pulling your hair out. You washed my back, let me wash yours.”

When Xiao was still quiet, you went on.

“Besides, that’s how…” you trailed off, unsure of what to call your strange relationship with him. You were definitely past just friends, but you didn’t know what label to give yourselves. You decided on something the both of you had for each other – respect. “That’s how respect works.”

Finally he relented, turning so that his back faced you. Although he still seemed stiff and tense, he soon relaxed under your gentle touch. His shoulders slowly became loose, and he leaned into your touch. You could have sworn that if he could, Xiao would be purring.

His hair’s so soft, you thought, marveling at the way the sandsoap dissolved between your fingers and turned into a rich, creamy lather in his hair. And it was always so fluffy too, settling just above his ears so that they appeared pointed, like elf ears.

As you massaged the base of his scalp, you scooped up another handful of the sand and started working on his shoulders and upper back. Soon you moved onto his arms, then the rest of his back, which would’ve been hard for him to reach. You were loath to stop touching him, to stop feeling the wiry muscle and cording in his back flex and move under your fingers.

But eventually, you had to stop.

You rinsed your hands in the cold, clear water, letting the foam fall to the sandy bottom. “I’m going to rinse your hair now, okay?”

Xiao merely hummed, tilting his head back. You cupped your hands and brought them over Xiao’s head, letting the water run and wash the soap from his hair. After you did this several times, his hair was sopping wet and hung limply around his face, but it was clean.

“Done,” you murmured, helping him stand straight once more. “I’m going to dry off on one of those rocks on the shore. Would you like to join me?”

Again, Xiao merely hummed, but he followed you to the center of the lake where you left your clothes on the stone table and chairs. Water trickled down your body and pooled at your feet, causing you to shiver and shake water droplets everywhere. You looked down and saw your fingers, pruned from sitting in the water all that time and stinging in the sunlight. They felt numb, and you made a few fists before grabbing your clothes and heading towards the shore. You looked back and noticed Xiao didn’t seem to have this problem. The cold must not have bothered him because he hadn’t been in for as long as you had.

When you reached the shore, you walked around for a bit, searching for the perfect spot to sunbathe and dry off. You eventually found a nice, flat rock near the edge of the mountain, and made a pillow out of your clothes to rest your head on. Xiao disappeared momentarily to gather his clothes and do the same thing, laying next to you in the early afternoon sun. It was quiet and peaceful, with the waves lapping gently at the sand behind you.

You were just closing your eyes when Xiao spoke. “Perhaps it was for the best to join you today.”

You smiled and hummed in agreement, not turning to look at him. “I’m glad you think so, too.”

Chapter 5: A guide and a plan to a war crime (Otherwise called guns and more guns)

 Your face soured as you forcefully swallowed the medicine Albedo had brewed up for you, trying your best not to throw it up. As much as you hated the taste, you really did need it to recover.

The alchemist wiped at the excess liquid on your chin, his eyes still stern as ever even as he watches for every shift of your expression. “How do you even drink so much shit without puking?” You managed to groan and he laughed softly in response.

  "A stomach of steel is needed if I were to conduct experiments on myself,“ he paused to breathe. "Therefore I had to get used to it, no matter the risk or how horrible the taste will be."

          "That’s not a very nice job.” You responded to him rather bluntly.

         "I admit it isn’t the nicest, but it’s one of the fields I know to put my knowledge into.“ He stated as he gathered his things, leaving a note on the table and some Mora.

      "Leaving for an expedition again? Sheesh."

 At your question, he briefly turned to you. "Dragonspine is an area with many mysteries, it would be a waste not to explore it. It also decreases the chances of dangers for future travellers, since we would have a map.”

  "You have a point, do be careful though.“ You’re careful to not mention Durin, or anything that related to dragonspine that wasn’t known to the knights.

   The gods in Celestia probably laugh at your current misery.

    "I will, be sure to rest and recover.” With that, he finally made his leave.

    It’s been a few moments since you’ve laid down, and you were growing pretty restless. The cryptic letters didn’t show up in which you could safely assume that Dainsleif wasn’t currently in Mondstadt, not that you even had any problems with him being in the city. You saw him as someone awfully similar to Diluc, just with the opposite color scheme.

    Needless to say, you groaned and forced yourself to get up and take your crutches for a trip to Good Hunter, you were not in the mood to cook and thankfully Klee was in the Knight’s Headquarters, leaving you completely alone at home to do whatever you wanted, and you did what you wanted.

~~~~~~~~~~~
            "Thanks.“ You mumbled as Sarah helped you get to your seat with food in tow.
    "No problem.” She smiled at you, setting the tray of food on the table as you sat down. If there was anything you loved more than Mondstadt and it’s festivals, it would be the booze and the food. It was a perfect reflection of the people and the city, at least for you.
   You didn’t waste any time and started digging into your food immediately, unable to contain the warm feeling pooling inside of you. Being alive was nice, for all your self deprecating jokes and crappy gen z humor, you did appreciate being alive.
  Some time after you ate, you started zoning out and then an idea suddenly came to mind; If the Fatui had shotguns, why couldn’t you have a machine gun?
   If you had an automatic glock then not having a vision would be the least of your worries in this world full of gods that walk amongst mortals and monsters, it’s not as if you’re gonna ruin the plot by joining the Traveller anyways; you literally had no reason to join Aether aside from shits and giggles and probably sightseeing but that’s about it.
   You’re not Aether, you’re not strong, you’re not a savior or a knight to protect and serve people, you were just you. A bartender of Angel’s Share, someone who held information more than what they could and should handle.
     You sat up from your chair and scoffed before you went to the front of the cathedral to unwind and relax.
    Even if you were no hero, hell, nothing at all, you weren’t going down without a fight. But then again, was there even anything wrong with just being a normal person with a gun?
         Haha, no.
You wait for the day you’d be able to scream at an agent “Welcome to America motherfucker!”.
          It’s cold war time.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

         Remembering the parts of a gun from memory was surely a fun experience for you as you sketched the model you were familiar with on paper, as to why you even know gun models and its parts would just be because one of your friends from your world was a gun manufacturer.

           You don’t know how the fuck you exactly befriended someone that’s probably a member of the Mafia, but friends were friends. Thankfully you had this uncanny habit of being able to memorize useless things to a t if you liked them enough; sometimes you hate it though, your selective brain didn’t get you to pass math at school.

             You don’t really care if creating weapons of destruction was going to get you arrested, and again it’s not like you’ve never been arrested before anyways but you’re not really someone the knights should be worrying about when it came to those things, it should be Klee; a literal child who creates atomic bombs that can probably obliterate the whole country if she really wanted to for “playtime”.

             How and why they even kept giving her gunpowder is beyond your understanding.

   With that in mind, you now have a goal; get as rich as Ningguang by saving up, arm yourself with a glock and weaponize your own clothes and hopefully try to be alive at the end of everything.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
             Two weeks had gone by and recovery had been easy due to you actually following along the routine Albedo had laid out for you for your medicine; as much as they tasted terrible, at least you could walk around freely now.
 "Morning fellas!“ You bellowed, entering the tavern you missed working at. Charles perked up at your appearance, returning the grin you wore as the early customers of the tavern shared laughter at your cheerful demeanor.
  "Aye, it looks like our favorite bartender is back!” One of the customers exclaimed, the group found themselves laughing at the offended expression Charles shot at them. “Sorry my guy, we just like this one, she’s neat."
 "Gotcha! Glad to be back.” You finger gunned before you went to your station at the counter, you know that Charles would have nothing against you as long as business was booming anyways- favorite bartender comment aside. “Order now folks! Promise I’ll make it extra tasty for you!"
 "Thanks! Remember to take it easy okay? Now we’d like some….”
~~~~~~~~~

        "Man, things have been pretty wild in Mondstadt lately.“ One of the tavern patrons murmured, the clinking of utensils and cups filled with alcohol being muffled in the background as your ears tuned in to listen.

"Not THAT wild, and you shouldn’t even be talking about those things here.” His companion hissed through the hand he used to cover the side of his mouth in an attempt for privacy, you pretended to not listen though, you were working on occasionally gathering Intel for sure, but you didn’t want to give the poor customers the drift that no conversation is ever safe from the ears of the tavern staff.

  "I’ve heard about the winds getting stronger near the east.“ The random patron replied to his companion, the words nearly made you halt; you almost forgot you’ve been anticipating the stormterror attack for some time after your unexpected arrival.

"How do you even notice these things?” You drowned out the rest of their conversation, no longer deeming it relevant anymore as you continued with your work.

If you counted correctly, you were staying in Teyvat for over two months or so now.

“Kid, something the matter?” Charles asked you as he shot you a semi concerned look.

“It’s nothing…. It’s just that I feel like there’s a storm coming.” You were careful in what you had to drop in case a third party was listening.

 "That's…. Quite a hunch.“ That was his only reply before he quickly resumed serving customers again.

  Another busy day, thankfully for you it was easy. Some patrons passed out on the tables or their faces smashed into their own puke, you shuddered at the reminder that you’d have to clean that up later.

 You reminded yourself you’d get a bunch of buckets, towels and some water for tomorrow for these guys.

"There’s a lot more people passing out here than usual.” You murmured.

 "Yeah, that’s to be expected.“ Charles replied a few feet behind you, wiping the mugs clean. "It’s payday.”

   "That… makes a lot of sense.“ You slumped. "By the way, I’ll be cleaning whatever this mess that came straight out of them in a few, I’ll be right back to get the supplies."

  "Sure thing kiddo, I owe you a favor."

 You flashed a peace sign on your way out at the back of the tavern.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
        Waking up the sleeping patrons with the buckets you had prepared after painstakingly cleaning both the tavern tables and floors and the men that got their faces smashed somehow wasn’t bad.
 They were at least coherent enough to greet you with a good morning and drink the water you provided them with in a practiced manner, you sighed in relief, no one had to choke.
  But for the love of Venti, you didn’t get any sleep.
 "Archons, you look like a mess.” Diluc deadpanned as he stood at the tavern’s doorway.
 "You think?“ You squinted at him.
"Go get some sleep, I’ll finish what you started.” He sighed as he made his way towards you. “Don’t strain yourself too much."
 Man, Diluc was too kind for his own good.
 "I will.” You grinned, finally relaxing after somehow managing an all nighter.
 "Good morning master Diluc.“ You heard Charles greet the man as you made your way out of the establishment, a yawn escaped you and you decided to stretch your limbs and bask in the sunrise first before heading back home.
          You just remembered you were supposed to flesh out several gun models today.
~~~~~~~~~~

            Unsurprisingly, you woke up a bit later than you’d expected. It was afternoon again but you felt energized, you groaned once it hit you that once again you’ve fucked up your sleep schedule as you did during late Highschool.

  "Jesus Christ what am I doing with my life?” Existential crisis strikes once again, but you forced yourself to get up in the favor of your bladder.

  If you were being honest with yourself, it was your bladder that motivated you mainly to get up in the early mornings. You silently cursed as you stumbled upon some obstacles on the way to the restroom, but thankful you did not stub on your toe or step on a DiY Lego set.

  Late afternoon and you’ve slumped your face on your own work desk looking at the sketches you’ve made, thankfully they made sense now that you’re fully awake. The only thing you’d have to worry now is where and how exactly you were going to gather the materials for these items, you sighed at the realization you’d either have to ask Kaeya, Diluc or Lisa.

You deduced two latter choices would be the safer options than the former, knowing how tricky Kaeya can be sometimes, that and because he is a troll. Albeit an unexpected one, but he wasn’t the Cavalry Captain for nothing.

The fatui already had their versions of a prototype shotgun, this gave you a side idea to steal one to ask what material it was made out of but you quickly scrapped that out. You’d have to ask Sucrose as to how to formulate the gunpowder, bullets were out of the question, you’re able to make them yourself with the correct items.

 The remaining questions were where and who you should have to assist you in the weapon making, Wagner was probably too busy with the weapons damaged by the adventurers day by day, would Albedo be a good option? You groaned and shook your head, surely it wasn’t only Wagner that could smith weapons in Mondstadt, Liyue of course was out of the question.

             You didn’t expect this to be incredibly complicated, but you’re willing to be patient. You weren’t in a rush, it wasn’t like what the traveller had to do in game was your obligation or part of your priorities, they were going to have to shoulder most of that burden by themselves, you might help by providing some information here and there or go with them occasionally for benefits and sightseeing, but you weren’t going to let yourself get dragged into trouble you knew you aren’t equipped for.

       You learned that the hard way in Dragonspine.

 Before you get PTSD from that god forsaken and too cold for it’s own good mountain, you sink to your seat, mentally drained as you made the effort to empty your brain in an attempt to relax it. That brainstorm certainly took a lot out of you.

  You fell asleep again before you knew it.

modern genshin au! where scaramouche is your driving instructor and he makes you cry b/c he yells at you for missing turns and messing up parallel parking. but it’s okay b/c he does the hot arm around the passenger seat thing ™ when he demonstrates so it’s. fine! and he’s pretty. whatever.

you have his number saved as ‍♂️ (you’re the one in the car) and the conversation remains strictly-business: lesson tomorrow at 3 pm. don’t be late. i’ll be outside your place. you should have run his foot over the first time. it would’ve looked like an accident.

to your dismay, the bi-weekly lessons become weekly lessons, and those lessons are suddenly a staple part of your week. (he excuses the absurd amount of lessons by insisting that you’re a wreck on the road and cannot function on your own).

he gets a bit nicer after a while. emphasis on a bit. he’s still snarky. and rude sometimes (most of the time). but he cares and actually teaches you the basics of driving. and he doesn’t make fun of you for going under the speed limit anymore and the worse he’s called you is “idiot” . and! you get to see more of the hot arm thing ™. so it’s a win all around!

and so what if your face gets a little hot after he praises your driving (albeit begrudgingly)? and don’t even think! about how the light hits the only nice angle of his (stupidly) pretty face when you’re turning and somehow catch a glimpse of him. no way! no way.

are you sad that you guys will no longer be in contact after your test is over? no. okay, well…maybe? are you the only one who thinks you guys will never talk again? absolutely.

you receive another text the same night from him: dinner tonight at 8 pm. don’t be late. i’ll be outside your place.

dive into you

[bennett x reader]

author’s note: lil fic for bestest boy benny inspired by the song by nct dream and the summer season :’)

word count: 3,600

There’s a bakery opposite of Angel’s Share, just across the cobblestone road, and every morning the smell of freshly baked bread wafts from its open double doors, ready to welcome patrons and the crisp air of the early hours. Bennett has easily fallen into the routine of making this his first stop of the day. When he wakes, eyes slow to open and greeted by little squares of light on the ceiling of his bedroom from the sunlight shining through the window, he swears he can already smell that bread and the pastries and the care put into each one. He doesn’t often find it in him to be lazy, to be sluggish this early, for a new day was a new promise of adventure, and whether he’s swept along by the wind to the wilds or to the bakery, it’s an adventure all the same.

He always picks out food for his dads. He considers carefully what they might like to have (some prefer to have the same each time, others don’t mind the variety and like to be surprised), and carefully, slowly he fills the tray. Usually it isn’t busy during the time he’s there, but he doesn’t want to take risks as he holds it securely with both hands whenever he’s perusing the selection. Even if there were no people to bump into, with his luck, he might bump into one of the displays in the middle of the shop instead, consequence of paying more attention to the shelves against the wall where there are loaves baked into fun shapes like fish or crabs, rather than to what’s in front of him. He’d hate to drop everything on his tray and waste it.

Sometimes the bakery keeps the doors closed, and while uncommon, it’s nothing unusual. On these occasions, the entry of each customer is announced by the small bell jingling just overhead. It’s the only sound in the shop, ringing several times in the past ten minutes but it’s mere background noise, easily ignored, as Bennett absorbs himself in choosing what to buy today.

“Good morning!”

Bennett’s hand freezes just above a loaf of bread that looks like a bear and he glances behind him to the counter because the sound of your bubbly voice, conversely, is much more difficult to ignore. Though to be fair, to him, you’re no mere background noise.

You’re carrying a basket of more loaves just taken from the oven, half of them regularly shaped into circles and the other half like turtles, and grin at the customers who have just walked in. He watches you make your way over to a shelf several feet away from him to arrange the bread, and he stares long enough that you’ve taken notice. Your smile is bright and reaches your eyes, and he’s embarrassed to have been caught. His cheeks grow warm and you can probably see the dusting of red across his face, a speculation which doesn’t help alleviate this embarrassment one bit.

“Good morning, Bennett,” you greet him, more quietly since he’s closer.

He likes when you say his name, and it never fails to make his heart skip a beat and he stutters out an O-Oh, um… as if surprised that you’re talking to him, much less that you know who he is. It shouldn’t take him off guard that you know, considering how often he comes to the bakery, so he supposes it has more to do with the fact that he can’t believe his name should be spoken by a voice as gentle as yours, honeyed tones like the softly plucked notes of the Holy Lyre der Himmel.

Finally he musters an equally quiet Good morning in response, smiling back but he’s certain it looks more like a cringe, owed to his nerves. If it does, you don’t point it out, and simply return to your task. Only when another patron comes up to Bennett’s other side, muttering a pardon as they grab a loaf from the shelf he’s standing in front of, does he break his gaze from you. His hand that had been hovering above the bread that whole time he drops back down to his side, and he scoots to make room with another stutter and a sorry.

You’re back behind the counter when Bennett is ready to pay. The pile of bread, cake slices, sandwiches, and other miscellaneous pastries had in the past led you to ask him if these were snacks for the road, for you’d guessed him to be an adventurer doing commissions for the guild by the sword at his side. He’d chuckled and explained his actual purpose for buying as much as he did, and your grin had widened, and if he wasn’t imagining things, you’d been extra careful when packing every treat.

I’m sure they’ll really appreciate your gesture, you’d said. That’s sweet of you. And it’s not frequently that events in the course of his life run smoothly, but that day they had, and with no falter in his words he remarks it’s thanks to you, for you’re the reason there’s anything to bring back to his dads in the first place. You’d laughed and his chest tightened and he thinks that’s the point where he started to fall (to where, he hesitated to state exactly). But in any case, it was true—without you, there was no bakery filled to the brim with delicious food, and if he had anything to say about that, Mondstadt would be worse off for it.

This morning, Bennett is digging around his wallet for the appropriate amount of Mora while you pack what he’d picked out. Having gone through this process many times prior, he knows approximately how much it should cost.

“Ah—”

A few coins slip from his hand and clatter to the wooden floor, and he bends to pick them up. But on the way down, his head knocks into the tray that he neglected to push all the way onto the countertop, so part of it still stuck out. You blink in surprise at the jostling of the tray and his subsequent Ouch!, muffled because he’s obscured by the counter.

“Are you okay?” You sound genuinely worried, but to Bennett the accident had been no big deal. At least none of the food had fallen.

“Yeah,” he assures you. He’s still trying to gather up the stray Mora, fingers failing to get a proper grip on them and he huffs in slight exasperation. His face once more is burning from the embarrassment of being so clumsy. He’s clumsy around everyone, and it’s something he has long since come to accept, but it matters a lot more when it’s you.

Finally he stands back up, the money clutched in his fist victoriously. “Yeah!” he repeats now that you can hear him clearly. “It’s no big deal.”

For a second you don’t quite believe him, but it’s hard to argue with that smile on his face. There’s no pain he’s trying to hide (embarrassment, on the other hand, is a different issue entirely).

Upon handing him his package you tell him you’ll see him tomorrow and he feels sort of special because you don’t say it to anyone else. To others, you say Thank you, come again! but you know his routine and you know to expect him at the same time each morning. Judging by the look in your eyes and the sound of your voice when you see and greet him, you anticipate his visit every time, and his heart wants to soar out from the confines of his chest upon this realization and he is exhilarated. The wind and the new day have fulfilled their promise of an adventure, and the clock hasn’t even struck noon.

One day you’re a little distracted, focused on a paper in your hand as Bennett approaches the counter with his tray of baked goods. For the most part, your face gives nothing away, but then your brows furrow slightly, a subtle action he doesn’t miss, and he proceeds to ask if anything is wrong. He asks it kindly, keeps his tone neutral, wordlessly conveying that you don’t have to answer if you don’t want to. He would hate to pry.

You purse your lips, pausing like you’re caught between saying yes and no. He waits patiently for whichever one it might be.

“I ran out of sugar and had been meaning to make more,” you start, opting to share with him what’s been troubling you.“I bought out Flora’s stock of sweet flowers but it wasn’t enough, so I may have to set aside time to pick more myself later.”

The mention of heading outside of the city makes Bennett perk up, for he never turns down a chance to go exploring. He’s about to offer to do it for you, but it’s the thought of possibly going withyou instead that makes him hold back and rephrase his question.

“This afternoon?” he inquires, head tilting. You nod, and up until now he’d felt confident in the offer he was going to present, but then his nerves get the better of him and it doesn’t come out quite the way he was hoping. “I-I could go with you! You know, if you want! To protect you… Just in case…” He trails off and he wants to go hide in a hole. There are few other ways this could have gone worse.

You don’t answer right away, and he regrets having said anything at all, but your beautiful smile soon follows the silence and it sets his mind at ease, and you agree with a concise and cheery Sure!Well, at least the worst way this could have gone had not come to pass. It was the small victories for Bennett—just as important as the big ones. The next challenge would be to avoid making a fool of himself out there, in what should be his natural element; he doeswant to impress you. But that’s a big ask for someone like him…

Both of you agree to meet at the front gate in the late afternoon. By then, the traffic in the bakery is slow enough that you’re able to step away earlier than the normal closing time. You’ve changed into clothes more appropriate for walking around: in lieu of a dress, your typical work attire, you sport a tunic and trousers you don’t mind dirtying. The trousers are tailored to fit properly but the tunic is a tad big, the sleeves a bit too long, but Bennett thinks you look cute in it. A basket hangs on your forearm and you wave as you walk up to him.

“I hope you haven’t been waiting too long,” you say.

Bennett shakes his head. “Not long at all.” Technically the agreed upon meeting time was only five minutes ago, so you aren’t very late. Though he does refrain from sharing that he’d arrived early, in fear that he could end up late somehow and you would be the one who had to wait. Really, it’s been more like fifteen minutes for him, but he just keeps quiet about that.

One of the nice things about summer is that the sun sets later. There’s still a sufficient amount of light to illuminate the fields as you walk around in search of sweet flowers. At first, the extent of your conversation is discussing where you might be able to find a high concentration of them, then silence filled with the sifting of grass beneath your shoes and the occasional exclamation of having spotted a flower to be picked and tucked away in your basket.

Honestly, walking with you around the wilds of Mondstadt hadn’t been anywhere on Bennett’s list to do today, or anyday really, not until he could muster the courage to invite you out like this, and who knew when that might be. Your need for sweet flowers had dropped the opportunity right into his lap, and thankfully he hadn’t squandered it. But now he’s at a loss as to what to talk about; he didn’t think he’d ever get this far.

Maybe you sense his struggle to come up with a topic of conversation because you’re the one to speak up, asking about his adventures and the commissions he takes. Done anything exciting recently?

Bennett’s eyes light up, a reaction which you can’t help but smile at, and he regales you of the goings-on of his latest missions. He omits the instances where his clumsiness had made things more difficult (of which there were many), but each story is still truthful. Most of his commissions the past month hadn’t been anything too bold—after a mission that involved nearly getting himself trapped in a ruin due to solving a puzzle wrong then getting food poisoning on top of that from the snack he’d prepped that day, he’s been choosing jobs that he knows he’s more capable of.

To him, they aren’t too exciting, and in the larger scope of things, perhaps they aren’t, but you don’t seem to think that as you hang on each word. You’re absorbed in his story about trying to dismantle towers in a hilichurl camp, and gasp at the mention of their reinforcements coming to attack in the midst of it. Wow, you remark after he finishes his recounting of the event. You’re amazing, Bennett!

His heart does a flip again at the sound of his name and he shrugs offhandedly. He’s not inclined to think so, but your awed comment is sincere and has him reconsidering: yeah, that waspretty cool of him, wasn’t it? For all his clumsiness, he doesn’t often see the feats for what they are, accompanied by blunders or not, but you’re the fresh perspective he’d been missing, and he wishes you’d stepped into his life sooner.

The entirety of your outing together has thus far been free of any monsters, but as soon as Bennett makes this observation it’s like the universe has heard: hydro slimes suddenly pop out from the ground, halting you in your tracks. You squeak in surprise and Bennett is quick to shift into a fighting stance, knees slightly bent and one arm out in front of you protectively.

“Just stay there!” he instructs before drawing his sword and rushing forward.

Luckily there aren’t many slimes to fight off, and they aren’t very big. His sword cuts through them easily, cleanly. They burst and spray water upon being sliced apart, so at the end, when they’re all dead, the only evidence they had been there to begin with is the slight dampness to his clothes and the squish of dirt turned to mud. With a sigh of triumph, Bennett resumes a relaxed stance, then sheathes his weapon and turns to you.

As instructed, you’ve stayed in place, but it seems to have been more out of being frozen in fear than anything else. You’re clutching your basket close, and once the slimes are gone, you follow Bennett’s lead and relax, shoulders releasing the tension they had been filled with for the duration of that fight. You let out a deep exhale of relief, hand placed over your heart which has yet to slow back down to its normal pace.

“Thank you.”

Bennett flashes a toothy grin and waves his hand as if to say It’s not a problem. “That’s what I’m here for isn’t it?”

You smile back. “I’m glad we went together.”

Together. He likes the sound of that. He thinks to himself that he’d go with you to other places too; you need only to give the word. To the edge of this world, and through a portal to the next? He’d meet you by the front gate at dawn.

He’s surprised that the encounter with those slimes had gone as smoothly as it had. It isn’t uncommon for him to get hit a few times, bruises quick to form on his arms or his legs. And it’s quite the run of luck, of which he’s ordinarily in short supply, that he should get through a fight with nary a scratch on him while with you. His efforts to impress are actually succeeding.

However, this is another case of speaking too soon, because he starts to walk back to you, but then his foot gets caught on a rock concealed by the tall grass, and he tumbles to the ground.

“Oof!”

His chest collides with the earth as he lands with a thud and the breath is stolen from his lungs. You gasp and close the gap between you, and in viewing you in his peripherals, he notes that you are much more graceful at it.

“Are you all right?”

Bracing his hands on the dirt, small bits of rock digging into his palms, Bennett pushes himself up to sit on his knees. “Yeah, I’m okay!” Here he thought he had handled himself perfectly well, but then just like that, his clumsiness returned, and once more before you he is awkward, blundering Bennett.

Unlike the incident at the bakery when he’d bumped his head into the tray, this fall had actually hurt, and he can’t hide it successfully, a slight wince of pain crossing his face in spite of his smile. Even if you hadn’t caught on to that, the injuries elsewhere on his body give it away completely.

“Your arms are all scraped up…” After Bennett stands back up, you gingerly take hold of his forearm and angle it to examine the scrapes there, thin red lines from tiny stones tearing the skin.

Your grip is light, like you’re scared to injure him further, and Bennett is thankful for the darkness that is setting in as the sun disappears and the moon begins its trek across the sky, for it conceals the way his cheeks redden to be this close to you, to be touched by you. The concern in your gaze as you look at his arm makes his chest squeeze but not in the good way, and he bends his knees slightly to duck into your line of view.

“Don’t worry! I’m fine.” And it’s true. He’s sustained worse, though he steers clear of sharing this part. He doesn’t like to see you worried.

He straightens up when you finally meet his eyes and dons his smile again, easy and reassuring. It seems to convince you, as you nod and let go. He drops his arm back down to his side but he’s already missing the feather-light sensation of your fingertips. Successfully reassured, your smile also returns, replacing the thin line of worry that your lips had previously been set in.

It’s dark now but the air is still warm, a consequence of the season. In the daytime the heat is more extreme, made even more so by the fire curling from the edge of his sword. At the conclusion of whatever commission he has taken, he’s left sweating, satisfied but exhausted. Missions in the summer are more difficult to get through, the sun beating down with little mercy and its heat lingering into the night, but he thinks that if he were to have you there with him, he’d hardly notice.

Your delicate gaze is the cool ocean breeze and your soft smile the deluge of waves washing over him, a force he receives gladly because he is falling into you, deeper into the expanse of your heart. He’s diving into the sea, the unbearable heat of summer long forgotten as he makes his way to the bottom. What he hopes to find he isn’t sure, but he’d be content to remain there forever, consumed by you and all the love you have to offer.

“Okay?” he asks, voice soft. You had nodded but he also wants verbal confirmation that you won’t burden yourself with worry anymore.

You catch on to his own need for reassurance, and he wants to sink into the refreshing fondness of your eyes as you watch him. “Okay.”

The moon up above illuminates your face, and he wants to run his fingers along all the parts it touches: the line of your cheekbones, the bridge of your nose, the cupid’s bow of your lips. He yearns to be closer to you than that moonlight adorning your skin, and maybe it’s strange that he should be envious of it, of that light which has the privilege to hold you so near, but the feelings he has for you are what’s written about in books, and in those stories, people do tend to do strange things.

In the morning, he stops by the bakery as usual but this time is surprised when you set a cake down alongside the other baked goods he buys. You answer his question before he can voice it.

“For yesterday,” you state simply. “For my hero.”

Your—?

“I think ‘hero’ is too strong a word for it,” Bennett replies, chuckling quietly and rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly. After all, they had just been slimes.

You hum noncommittally, corner of your mouth lifted in a grin. “Maybe, but yesterday you were mine. So please take this as thanks.”

He’d like to be yours every day, and the thought of how nice that would be makes his whole world just a little brighter, like the crystal butterflies fluttering around him in the wild on the warm summer nights; and he hopes that the next adventure the wind guides him on leads straight back to you.
