Grounding or “Earthing” is the exercise of adjusting your energy and body to the Earth’s frequency. The Earth continually pulsates at the frequency of 7.83 Hertz, which is called the Schumann Resonance. This frequency is generated in the Earth’s electromagnetic field by the electrical collaboration between the Earth’s surface and the ionosphere.

There are many ways to ground yourself or promote grounding energies around you. The possibilities of techniques are nearly boundless which is inspiring. Everywhere you could possibly be is on this planet, meaning you can ground at any moment you desire.

Common Grounding Methods:

Colors:

Using color magic, you can incorporate colors around and within yourself to ground. One can preform this with their wardrobe, crystals, candles, thread, hair color, makeup, artwork, interior designs. The Root Chakra is correlated with the color Red, whilst the hues Brown and Black embody Earth itself. You can visualize your body filling with a warm light that is brown, red, or black.

Crystals:

Whilst on the idea of color magic, you can choose stones of the particular aforementioned colors for grounding purposes as well. However, every single gem comes from the Earth, and thus works. My personal recommendations would be Moss Agate, Tiger’s Eye, Bronzite, Dendrite, Garden Quartz, and Tree Agate. You can do this by wearing or carrying stones with you.

Edibles:

Growing, cooking, or simply eating foods that grew beneath the Earth’s surface can assist in attuning you with Earth’s frequency or energies. This ranges from vegetables to spices. Ginger Root, Turmeric, and Galangal also can work phenomenally.

Scanning:

Body scanning is the process of taking the time to observe how each and every segment of your body feels to connect with yourself and the present moment. I recommend starting with the bottom of your feet, noticing how they feel. Are they sore, or maybe dry? Once you’ve felt it entirely, move upwards until you’ve focused on your entire body.

Scents:

Certain aromas will also influence you to become grounded, especially when done with intention. From oil rollers to diffusers, there are many ways to apply scent in your home. If essential oils are not your favorite, you can always use fresh flowers or leaves in a potpourri.

Sounds:

There are a vast range of methods that may incorporate sound into grounding. This includes but is not limited to listening to Hertz Frequencies directly. Alternatively, there are guided visualizations and meditations throughout the internet to use as well. If those do not resonate with you, listening to animals, winds, storms, or fires always work as well.

Walks:

Walkingbarefoot on the Earth is one of the most conventional methods of grounding out there. The Earth maintains an electrical potential on its surface, and when you are in direct contact with the ground, the Earth’s electrons are conducted to your body, and thus attuning it to the same electrical frequency.

Let’s talk about grounding

To be grounded and centered is necessary to be mindful in your daily activities. It is also crucial, as we know, after a spiritual practice or after magick working. And in an overall view, to be grounded is good for you, as you can be a better version of yourself. So let’s tap in. Here are some grounding techniques which works for me:

The basic grounding technique is mindful deep breading.

Wherever you are, preferably in a quiet place, close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Feel the fresh air filling your abdomen, your lungs, and your throat, then exhale slowly. Repeat until you feel connected.

If you’d like to deepen the effect, add a visualization.

Sit or lay down comfortably, eyes closed, and imagine that you are on the ground. Feel the soil beneath you, and imagine a flow of energy coming down your body and connects with Earth’s depths. The element you’ll be working with is obviously earth, so you may imagine yourself as a tree, deepening its roots into the ground.

Another option is using crystals.

Basically, any black, brown, or red crystal will do the work, as they refer to our first, root chakra which connects us to the physical plane of being. Personally, I prefer tiger’s eye, black onyx, and red jasper in my practice. As you meditate, place the crystal of your choice in your left hand (the ‘energy receptive’ hand), take deep breaths, and sense the crystal’s energy, let it ground you.

Note – make sure you’ve cleansed the crystal before use.

Foods and herbs for grounding:

Grains and their products.

Vegetables and berries.

Basil, oregano, thyme, cinnamon, ginger, black pepper, and rosemary.

Bonus

Grounding herbal tea recipe:

1 cup of boiled water

1 cinnamon stick

3-4 slices of ginger

1 lemon slice

1-2 tsp. of honey

Mix the ingredients (except the honey) and leave it under a cover for 5 min. (so the essential oils won’t evaporate). Add the honey and enjoy your tea.

Stay centered and blessed be! ✨✨

A year or so had passed after escaping LO when I came across the term “psychological abuse”. Up until that point I didn’t know I’d been abused and I’d been judging myself for still being so emotional about the past. I didn’t have the space in my new relationship with David to speak about the details of what I’d gone through so I kept a lot of the truth inside. But as I read about the signs and symptoms that day, I realized I finally had a name for it. The way he would insult me and scream at me, his extreme possessiveness, the explosive anger and threats he would use to control me—it all fell under the umbrella of psychological abuse. This was a huge step forward in my recovery because there was a sense of detachment from the turmoil now, an understanding that the inner chaos I was experiencing was an appropriate response to this sort of trauma. Now that I could identify what I’d been through , I could educate myself on it and learn how to move forward. || #Carborundum for calm and gentle grounding. Said to help with inner expansion in an orderly and organized manner.

A few months ago I started learning and practicing Shibari “Japanese rope bondage” it’s a very artistic mindful practice and I have made it part of my weekly regimen. I thought it was just a kink I wanted to explore but I didn’t expect it to become a coping skill for my anxiety I have found it’s helped my anxiety my dissociative disorder and sensory processing disorder and over all my confidence. When I was first learning it took patients I watched YouTube tutorials and paused and rewound over and over again I would get tangled up and frustrated I would mess up and start over I focused all my energy on learning and found my mind less cluttered of all the intrusive thoughts I struggle with daily… I could quite my mind just like some may do with arts and crafts or a beloved hobby this might even be considered a hobby. For me it’s more of a lifestyle. As I learned how to tie my first harness I was so proud of myself for sticking to something until completed and added boosts of confidence as I looked at my beautiful body bound in rope I felt sexy and empowered. and the results reminded me of a tight hug like the same feeling I get from my very therapeutic weighted blanket. Dealing with dissociating I loose connection with my body. describe able to an out of body experience rope helps me be aware of myself to feel where each body part is and how it’s being hugged it a simple term rope grounds me and keeps me present. with anxiety it’s easy to get lost in racing thoughts that create panic soon I might be breathing heavy and my heart racing and you would think being retrained would cause more panic but now I have no other choice but to take deep breaths and find my calm the rope helps guide my breath steady. As I take a deep breath in… my lungs expand my ribs widen and feel the rope grasp me tighter as if whispering to me its okay you are safe you are present you are here in this moment and as I exhale I feel the rope loosen it’s loving grip still wrapped around me just a bit lighter .. the rope sighed a relief with me as I’m assured everything is okay I am present I am grounded I am loved … I don’t know how to explain all of this so I went to google to find out other people have used rope to help them just like me it’s not for everyone but for some it’s fucking magic . What I find fascinating is that you are literally binding yourself and liberating yourself … how freeing it is to me. In my past I have been In Situations where I was held against my will. I could not escape I was trapped I was traumatized now living with PTSD from multiple sexual assaults I have a fear of being held down of not being able to escape to get away a fear to protect myself from such threats… with rope and self knotts …I am the captor the captive and the liberator . I am in control completely I am submissive to my self it is a practice of self love . And a powerful feeling with in myself that I have control of my body I say what goes. I create the feeling and I take it away . A relationship i create within myself. And new way to trust. To find peace in the uncomfortable till it becomes comfortable soothing I can relate the process to yoga . The captor the captive the liberator getting to play all these rolls in one setting is in empowering to say the least . There something about psychologically that I haven’t quite figured out yet but it helps my mind It finds a way to heal the wounded parts of me . It soothes me it liberates me empowers me. Frees me loves me keeps me focused grounded happy loved.

To wrap this up idk how to but I’ll try my best ….. I consider myself a rope bunny now although I’m an amateur and have only learned self knotts I’m excited to go further with my trusted Dom/master to tie me up himself in more confined restraints to let someone else do this to me requires a great deal of trust for me and most. I have a very loving relationship with my Dom . When I started Shibari I thought it to be something to bring more kink into my sex life but you see it’s so much more then that… I have played while bound and enjoy it very much I’m ready to have my arms tied behind my back and try other more retained knotts and I’m even excited to be suspended into the air wrapped in the Beauty of rope. The possibility’s are endless and it is a art to me … and mindful task I’ll say again a grounding activity … and empowering hobbie and loveing motion . A freeing feeling I can not describe… Shibari much more then that . Thanks for tuning in have a beautiful day loves

in love with the sunshine & breeze; relishing just sitting in the yard or going for walks outside.

this time of year is my favorite; I love absorbing all the warm energy. it fills me with liquid sunshine and I beam brightly from the inside out.

stormbornwitch:

Recently I was asked by wrecklessheartofg0ldanddevinaswitchyhaven to describe my personal method of grounding because I don’t use the ‘growing roots’ method that I see a lot of people using. The way I describe my method would be more along the lines of ‘equalising myself’ and ‘connecting to the web’.

The reason I describe my method of grounding in this way is because, for me, grounding is a lot like equalising the pressure when you go scuba diving.  And you do this by ‘connecting to the web’ and letting yourself ‘equalise the pressure’ you feel from spellcasting or energy work.

If my analogy doesn’t make sense at the moment I promise I’ll go into greater detail later but first I should probably explain what grounding isandwhy you should do it for the people who have never come across the term.

Alright. So the term Grounding actually comes from the process of electrical grounding in which an object is allowed to discharge (get rid of its excess charge). If an object is negatively charged, grounding lets excess electrons to flow from the object into the earth, and if an object is positively charged, electrons flow from the earthinto the object.

Within the magical community, this process of electrical grounding has been applied to create the witchy equivalent (though really it’s almost the same process and it’s called the same name).

This is based on the theory that magic is a form of energy and when a witch casts spells or practices energy work, it’s likely that they’ll end up with either too muchornot enough personal energy. For a witch this can be an extremely uncomfortable experience especially if you are close to either side of the spectrum (i.e. very little personal energyorway too much personal energy).

Unfortunately there are also physical symptoms which usually accompany being unequalised such as headaches, migraines, uncomfortable buzzing sensations under the skin, nausea, vomiting, pain, irritability, insomnia and exhaustion. The symptoms are typically worse the further out of alignment you are.

Grounding also helps people who practice astral travel, dreamwork, journeying, and hedge hopping with reconnecting with ‘reality’ and feeling like you’re ‘in the now’ and present in the world.

Overall, grounding serves two purposes:

  • It stabilises and equalises your personal energy
  • It reconnects you with the earth and it’s systems (what I like to call ‘the web’) and helps you focus on reality and being ‘in the now’

In a perfect world, witches would learn how to ground before attempting to perform any magic or energy work, but unfortunately I see a lot of witches jump straight into casting spells without thinking of what it can to them.  Grounding really is an essential skill for any witch who wants to keep practicing witchcraft without horrible side effects.

So while there are many grounding techniques available, this one is my personal method. If this method does not work for you I would recommend looking at the classic ‘growing roots’ method.

Connecting to the Web

Everything has its own energy/frequency/vibration/magic. Whatever you want to call it – everything has it. To ground effectively you need to be able to connect to this mass of energy and equalise your own personal energy.

For me, I visualise all of this energy as an intricately interwoven web (like a spider’s web or the internet); a mass of connections each transmitting their own energy and connecting to the whole. This is why I call it connecting to the web. Because for me, it is a web.

I developed this method of grounding because I found that I didn’t always have the time to sit down on the ground outside and sometimes it’s not appropriate (for example: At work or in the middle of class. Really whenever you feel that you need to equalise the pressure of either too much energy or not enough).

1)      First you have to visualise your own energy. You can do this sitting down, standing up, listening to a lecture, watching tv, sitting at your computer – ANYWHERE. You can close your eyes if that helps you however if you close your eyes for a long time in a public place this will become quite noticeable. The more you practice the faster you will be.

2)      Then you need to visualise ‘the web’. You won’t see all of it. You should be able to see the energy of the world around you and how it connects to each other. You won’t see the whole web. Maybe if you were out in space you could, but down here on earth you can only see the bits around you.

3)      You’re already connected to the web. That’s the best part. As a living, breathing organism which has its own personal energy; you are already connected. You just needed to be able to see it so you can get yourself back into alignment again. You should see a little tendril of energy coming from you and connecting to the web. You need to reinforce that connection.

I’m not gonna lie; grounding is hundred times easier if you can stand barefoot on the ground or sit outside with your palms resting on the ground. However, like I said earlier, that’s not always an option.

4)      Now for the equalising process. Like with scuba diving, I found the best way to equalise the pressure from either too much energy or not enough is to breathe. I know this may sound ridiculously simple – but it works. Take deep breaths and as you breathe in, draw in energy from the web. As you breathe out, send out your own energy to mingle with the web.

5)      It may take a few repetitions but you should feel settled once you finish. That buzzing under your skin will be gone and you will feel lighter and refreshed.

And that’s my method. Now I know some people recommend grounding every month or every week but really you should ground every day. I know that may seem like way too much work, but it really isn’t. The more you ground the faster and better you’ll be at it, so if you do it every day it becomes second nature. The second you start to feel off or out of alignment – equalise.

I hope this helps!

Hematite is an all-purpose grounding and stabilizing stone that does wonders for balancing energy! If you have a hematite that you’re especially connected to, you can take it to a place where you’re surrounded by nature, and whisper all of your troubles to it. One by one, allow the hematite to take your worries into itself and help you to shoulder the burden. Then, bury the stone in the Earth, and feel the weight being lifted from you!

Well, this isn’t what I was planning on doing as my next post, but since I kind of forgot to do my post on how to advance with the Earth element in living alchemy yesterday and don’t think I’ll be able to do it at least until Sunday, I decided to post some tips on grounding!

If you want to truly succeed in magick, you need to have your head in the Heavens and your feet on the Earth. That means that you need to be able to open your mind to ideas and states that are well outside your everyday experiences, but you also need to keep yourself anchored to reality so you don’t get totally lost in the Art.

image

Note how The Magician stands. His hand is uplifted with his wand in hand, ready to draw down power from the heights of Heaven and perform his craft. However, his other hand is lowered and opened to the Earth, where his feet are planted firmly. He can only perform his loftiest of tasks when his material needs are secured, and this is where grounding comes in!

Almost anything that keeps you in touch with the physical world can be grounding. It can be doing chores, or taking a walk outside while close to nature, or just taking care of something work-related. Another way to perform grounding is to sit in a chair with your bare feet on the floor or ground, back straight. and empty your mind of thoughts.

Speaking as someone who tends to have a very overactive Third Eye chakra, I know how hard it can be to come back to normal, everyday life once you’ve discovered the wonders of spellcraft. However, the key to success and happiness in magick or anything else is balance. Even the tallest tree has to have stable roots to keep itself standing strong.
