That is how many indigenous children did not make it home to their parents from the residential school system in Canada. 751 of those were recently uncovered from ONE residential school district in Saskatchewan just recently.

This is vile, and heartrending, and the sheer magnitude of this tragedy cannot be translated into any written or spoken language. My mind breaks just thinking about it.

not to be librarian on main, but for everyone who relates to this post, please check your local library’s website.

it is the responsible thing right now for libraries to have their buildings closed, but many of us are still providing services including reference (that’s librarian for “you can ask us questions about anything and we’ll find you relevant, accurate information or refer you to someone who can”) and virtual programming. Our library also offers free telehealth counseling services with a licensed social worker. You might not know all the services your library is providing until you ask, so it’s worth reaching out!

We’ve noticed our reference stats dropping since we closed our physical doors and are thinking that people assume because we’re not at the building we’re not available, but we are still here for our community! Your librarians are probably there for you too. Please check their website and social media pages!

not to be children’s librarian on main, but please check your library’s facebook, twitter, and even instagram and youtube! my whole system is posting weekly follow-along programming like storytimes, painting classes, playing D&D online, and sharing resources to help get us all through this. like and share their content if you can! it really helps the branches out and gets our services out there.

Totally ruined my morning reading about tea bags and microplastics but at least I know now and I’m gonna switch to loose leaf. Posting this incase others didn’t know! Cause I know I didn’t

Might I also suggest for loose leaf tea: cheese cloth! it’s made of cotton, can be used for all sorts of steeping/straining besides just tea, and washable & reusable! you can buy premade pouches or buy a roll of it and make your own bags, and it is very inexpensive!

The Different Types of Intimacy

•Emotional intimacy: Sharing deep thoughts and feelings, and feeling safe to share them.

•Intellectual intimacy: Exchanging ideas, opinions and expressing your interests (and it feels comfortable to do so).

•Physical intimacy: Physically showing affection. (This can be anything from holding hands to cuddling to sex)

•Experiential Intimacy: Sharing an experience with someone. (Ex: going for a walk, watching your favorite show together)

•Spiritual Intimacy: Ability to comfortably discuss spiritual/religious beliefs and respecting the other person and their beliefs. You do not have to have the same beliefs as the other person, but discussing spirituality can allow people to understand each other better.

jade-witchcraft:

When talking about witchcraft, paganism, any combination of the two, you often hear people talking about using discernment to help you determine the difference between ‘real’ and ‘imagined’ signs from gods, effects from spells, and divination among other things. But something that pays a heavy roll in that, which I don’t ever really see directly addressed, is the idea of metacognition.

Metacognition is “cognition about cognition”, “thinking about thinking”, “knowing about knowing”, becoming “aware of one’s awareness” and higher-order thinking skills. [Wikipedia

Being aware of how you think, how you respond to things, and being aware of who you are is a major point of being able to look at your practice and tell what is, and more importantly what isn’tyou.

When you know how you think, you’re able to quickly identify when something isn’t following your mental patterns. For example: If you’re speaking to a deity or a spirit, knowing your emotions and your typical thought patterns will make it pretty obvious when it’s not you that’s trying to communicate in any method.

It also helps when you’re meditating as being metacognitive will give you an internal view on your thoughts and thus better control of the; it also aids in spell working in a very similar manner.

In my personal belief, this makes metacognition one of the most important things you can develop as someone working with magic or spirits. Developing a strong understanding of the way you learn or the way you think only builds your confidence in what you do and what you believe.

Do NOT blame suicidal people for wanting to die

  • They can’t help it.
  • They are in a kind of pain you can’t even imagine.
  • The last thing they need is more guilt.
  • They trusted you enough to tell you, don’t guilt trip them.
  • If you don’t know how to help them, please ask a professional for advice.
  • It takes much strenght to survive suicidal thoughts. They are strong but they need help and support.
  • It is NOT their fault, nor yours. They just need support.
  • Suicidal pain is exhausting and they only want to rest. Try to understand, not blame them.
  • They need professional help.
  • They are not selfish.
  • They are ill.

I found this in a box with some of my older books my mother passed down to me years ago now. This book was published in 1996.

It is a very good beginners book, fairly small too, and not overwhelming.
There are tons of FAQ’s in there, and short and simple answers that are also given with simple explanation, but is also informative.

This includes stereotypical things pushed onto the witch community as well. (Such as: “Do witches wear different clothing/can I spot a witch?” And “Do witches have orgies?”)

If you are just getting into Wicca, or are just curious, I’d suggest this book as an introduction, and branch off from there. (If there is a certain subject/topic you’d like to look into more that was brought up or peaked your interest, you can study to that subject specifically.)

Okay, Hyperborea. Remember that chart I made a while ago? It’s like, wayup there past the antisemitic point of no return.

(using a different, higher-pitched voice) But Abby, can’t we just enjoy a silly little video about ancient snow civilizations?

(normal voice) Uh, no, not when that myth has been used to justify horrific amounts of violence.

Basically, Nazi shit comes as a bunch of different flavors. And one of them is esoteric Nazism, which is like, white supremacy and hatred disguised as a giant web of mystical and religious and metaphysical nonsense. So, this flavor of Nazism is obsessed with the Aryan race and restoring it. (whispering) It was never a thing.

(normal voice) They believe that Hyperborea was an ancient high civilization where the Aryan race — white people — lived in paradise before they were forced to mix with other races.

It’s a racist fairy tale used to perpetuate white supremacy and justify violence. This stuff is racist and antisemitic but [unintelligible] did enough that people will engage with it like it’s just a story. Tiktok knows it’s Nazi shit, that’s why they banned the Hyperborea hashtag. They just forgot to ban all the adjacent ones. [unintelligible, might be "It’s whoops.”]

These myths don’t end in a good place. Uh, you should try fiction, though, it harms like, wayfewer people.“

End video transcript

@normal-horoscopes

Okay okay it should be said that Hyperborea goes back as far as Herodotus. It is possible to encounter non-nazi versions of the mythology but they are few and far between, and basically every use of it past the 20th century has been irrevocably tainted. Hyperborea is a central element of Ariosophy, one of the ingredients in the soup of Nazi Mysticism. It’s mythical capital, Thule, is the namesake of the Thule society, one of the groups that eventually formed the early Nazi Party.

The non-nazi version is actually a greek myth about monsters that lived in cold places up north (likely the vikings), beyond the North Wind Boreas’ lands, friendly to heroes, called Hyperboreans

They took a greek myth about cultures interacting and turned into Nazi Shit

Wolves are among the shiest of all wildlife and are generally suspicious of humans. Historically, problem wolves are rare and have an almost zero probability of attacking a human. However, some wild wolves have shown aggressive behavior towards humans, and it is the purpose of this plan to acknowledge that possibility in Yellowstone National Park (YNP) and take steps to prevent such an occurrence. ¨

Wolves are intelligent animals that learn quickly, so changing the behavior of a problem wolf is difficult. Also, because problem wolf behavior is rare, there is little published information and management strategies on this topic, and the common solution is wolf removal. Unlike other aspects of wolf management, where a plethora of information exits, there was little information upon which to draw for formulation of this management plan.

Our management objectives discussed in this plan are to: 1) maintain a wild population of wolves in YNP; 2) prevent the development of habituated wolves; 3) reduce wolf–human contact; 4) prevent human injury due to an habituated wolf; 5) educate the public about proper wolf viewing so as to prevent habituation; and 6) gather more information on habituated wolves to help manage future situations that may develop. We intend to achieve these goals through human education and intolerance of fearless wolves that may pose a threat to human safety. Should cases of problem wolves occur, and non-lethal management actions are unsuccessful in eliminating the problem, then removal of the problem wolf will take place. We recommend, however, that wolf removal be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Our strategy is two pronged, involving management of both people and wolves. Since wolves have not been recorded to attack people on their first encounter with humans, and require exposure to humans before attacking, we will use a graded response. It should be noted, however, that YNP wolves have more exposure to people than is typical, hence sometimes more aggressive actions may be necessary. Our first response to a report of a habituated or unafraid wolf would be to warn and educate the public, increase our monitoring intensity, and visit the site where problems were reported. This would primarily be to gather more data, allowing formulation of future responses if necessary (see Appendix I). If the problem continues we would negatively condition the animal with cracker shells, bean bag rounds, or rubber bullets, all proven to be non-injurious deterrents. If hazing fails, then the final step would be wolf removal.

Almost all of the wolves that have shown aggression towards humans have lost their wildness by being repeatedly exposed to humans and losing their fear as a consequence (Linnell et al. 2002, McNay 2002a, Carnes and Van Ballenberghe personal communication). McNay (2002a) defines habituation as “the loss of an animal’s fear response to people arising from frequent non-consequential encounters.” Wolves in YNP are probably non-consequently exposed to people more than any other place in North America. Habituation appears to be a prerequisite for an aggressive act towards a human, and food rewards most commonly promote habituation, but there are cases of non-food-conditioned wolves attacking humans (McNay 2002b).

*smacks you over the head with a poorly put-together history textbook I made in crafts* LEARN BISEXUAL HISTORY BEFORE YOU ACT KNOWLEDGABLE

“Bisexual—being emotionally and physically attracted to all genders.” - GLSEN in fucking 1998

“Do not assume that bisexuality is binary or duogamous in nature […] In fact, don’t assume that there are only two genders.” 1990 Bi Manifesto

“But there are also many bis, such as myself, for whom gender has no place in the list of things that attract them to a person.“ 2002

“Bisexual people are those for whom gender is not the first criteria in determining attraction.” 2003

“Assuming that all bisexuals are never attracted to trans or genderqueer folk is harmful, not only to bi individuals, but to trans and genderqueer individuals who choose to label themselves as bi.”

“Bisexual: A person who is attracted to people regardless of gender (a person does not have to have a relationship to be bisexual!)” 2003

“These data support the argument that, for some bisexual individuals, sexual attraction is not gender-linked.” 1992

Now that we’re approaching 20,000 notes I want to share what I’ve learned since this post first gained traction.

It is increasingly apparent that only a select minority of certain communities are willing to listen to this post and accept that bisexuality’s inclusivity and definition are not up for debate, and that this definition and inclusivity are not new to our community.

It is equally difficult to get through to people who have chosen Latin meanings over history, a hypocritical stance they don’t take up with words like gay or lesbian.

I’ve had more people deny this post’s truth than recognize it as history. I’ve spent hours having to reply to people who do not care about bisexuals than I have talking to people this post helped.

This post is not my opinion, it is a collection of sourced quotes. Despite this being stated over and over again, the content of this post is treated as discourse that is original and unique to my blog.

So, there’s apparently research coming out now about microplastics being found in people’s bloodstreams and the possible negative effects of that and I feel the need to get out ahead of the wave of corporate sponsored “be sure to recycle your bottles!” or “ban glitter!” campaigns and remind everyone:

It’s fishing nets. It’s fishing nets. It is overwhelming fishing nets It always has been fishing nets.Unless regulations are changed, it will continue to be fishing nets.

The plastic in the ocean in largely discarded nets from industrial fishing. The microplastics are the result of these nets breaking down. The “trash islands” are also, you guessed it. Mostly fishing nets and other discarded fishing industry equipment.

Do not allow them to continue to twist the story. Do not come after disabled people who require single use plastics. Do not come after people using glitter in art projects and makeup. These things make up a negligible amount of the issue compared to corporate waste, specifically in the fishing industry. Do not let them shift the blame to the individual so they can continue to destroy the planet and our bodies without regulation.

Industries are incredibly resistant to taking responsibility for their own waste, to the point where “consumers are responsible for industrial waste” is somehow considered a sensible, ethical, worthy sentence.

It is actually perfectly reasonable to say that “industries are responsible for industrial waste” and “the effects of industry can, should and must be fixed by industry” and “Industry can, should and must be held responsible for its impacts on the commons, such as air, water, oceans and land.”
