“Fathoms Untold”
by TS PorterPearl Gleam the Huntress led her pod on their yearly migration. She was one of the largest of the Sea Peoples, and where most decorated themselves with bright shells and pearls, she wore strange armor fashioned from the carapaces of giant abyssal crabs. She was as long as an oarfish, faster than a mako shark, and her notched fins and the many scars on her arms and down the length of her tail proved her prowess as a warrior. Her pod trusted her to protect them, and protect them she did on their long journey, more often breaking the current at the head of the pod than swimming in any easier position.
They threaded through island chains, crossed vast empty waters marked only by the stars and currents, and came to the coastline of their feeding grounds. It was different from their warm breeding territory with its placid jewel-water lagoons, but those deep cold currents, where the ocean’s upwell beat against the dry-land barrier, produced the fattest fish. Her pod was strong even without her, and when they were safe and established, Pearl Gleam left them to swim out into the ocean alone. Even in youth, Pearl Gleam had been driven to exploration. Age and experience had only sharpened that curiosity to a blade as deadly as the obsidian that tipped her spear.

TS
so I was today years old when I realised that to english-speaking people “kraken” exclusively refers to a mythological being…. meanwhile in my bilingual brain
Auch wenn ich die ganzen Beschwerden über Schloss =/= Burg, und Degen =/= Schwert liebe.
Das Beste ist trotzdem:
A symbol of the Kraken cult of the Devourer, from Eberron.
The standard symbol of the Devourer is 5 bones, sharped into spikes, arranged loosely in a 5 pointed star pattern. They’re placed in front of a smudged field of brown with a bare ragged strip through the center.
This version, used by the followers of the Kraken, has five dark pink tentacles instead of bone spikes. The smudged field of brown has been replaced with two similar shapes of dark blue-green ink, which are light at the top and deepen at the bottom.
A dark triton from an Eberron DND game, wielding a trident and wearing pale crab chest and shoulder armor. Tritons, unlike merfolk, are mostly humanoid, with blue-green skin, fins along their forearms and calves, and webbed hands and feet. Dark tritons have tentacles from the waist down.
This dark triton worships the Ancient Deep Ones (kraken), so I gave it more bulbous eyes, a ridged forehead and nose, and arcane runes carved into its skin.
Dark tritons are considered cursed, but maybe it chose this life for itself? The deep ocean is a scary place, folks ally themselves with whoever looks the most powerful.
