Camden Highline set to follow New York and revitalise London’s disused rails

Imagined by London-based firms Studio Weave and Architecture 00, this project for a temporary public park across the disused North London Railway follows rapidly in the wake of the highly successful New York High Line which saw a similarly disused part of the city’s rail network transformed into a public walkway and garden. The 0.8km stretch of railway links Camden with Kings Cross station and currently stands as an eyesore in an otherwise culturally vibrant part of the city.

The proposal would regenerate the line and make use of several bridges along the route, providing chill-out spots, and new pedestrian/cycle routes 8m off the ground to further help avoid the traffic below.

Looking forward to it.

Antti Nurmesniemi.

Finnish interior designer Antti Nurmesniemi (1927-2003) is considered one of the pioneers of the Finnish design industry.

The drawing perspective for an interior design appears on Cree Magazine #6, in 1970. But look at (next images) the beautiful environmental art work he created with the power poles in the landscape at the intersection of Ring Road III and Turunväylä in Espoo.

During his career Nurmesniemi created a wide range of products, including pieces of furniture, telephones, kitchenware and even trains. During his architectural practice from 1951 to 1956 was involved on the interior design for Helsinki Palace Hotel, where one of his most famous designs, the sauna stool, became an icon.

Eero Aarnio worked for him for a short time + , both are credited together in at least one source for the Ball Chair design in the 1960s. +  He was married with textile designer Vuokko Eskolin-Nurmesniemi, known for her striped designs for Marimekko.

A drought tolerant front yard design with curb appeal. Pea gravel paths wrap around to the backyard and throughout the entire property, while the planting design appears lush with vibrant greens. Project Name: “The White House.” Landscape Design by Paul Hendershot Design, Inc. paulhendershotdesign.com

Pathway view showing part of a cacti garden and giant lavender field. Many paths connect all patios with levels. There’s a swimming pool built into the hillside, a custom chicken coop, and even a vegetable garden with the family’s beehives. Project Name: “The White House.” Landscape Design by Paul Hendershot Design, Inc. paulhendershotdesign.com Pots: @eyeofthedaygdc Butterfly Chairs: circa50.com Chaises: dwr.com

This project grew from a reimagining of the home’s architecture with Paul’s vision for a garden that is practical, yet enhances all element around it. Project Name: “Old Ojai.” Landscape Design by Paul Hendershot Design, Inc. paulhendershotdesign.com to and in collaboration with Sonny Ward junestreetarchitecture.com

This is a progress and after shot. The area was cleared before the pathway and hydrangeas were established. On the bottom of the photos and off screen, is a rock staircase to a guest home, pool, spa, and courtyard. Project Name: “Southern Style.” Landscape Design by Paul Hendershot Design, Inc. paulhendershotdesign.com

A blossoming fruit orchard. Grape vines sit next to the outdoor dining room. There are citrus trees in pots and giant privacy hedges in the background. Project Name: “Provence in Ojai.” Landscape Design + Furniture Design by Paul Hendershot Design, Inc. paulhendershotdesign.com

A lavender field pathway in the direction of the guest home. Pollinators love to hang out, which helps our environment through the cross pollination of our plants, trees, and flowers. They support our ecosystem by pollinating food sources for other wildlife and humans.

We’re all connected, so take care of your home by using organic products that don’t kill wildlife. The use of pesticides poisons bees, as do insecticides. There’s even one that attacks their nervous system. Flying through treated areas exposes them to the chronic poisoning of their water and nectar. All of this damages the planet and our lives. Project Name: “Old California.” Landscape Design by Paul Hendershot Design, Inc. paulhendershotdesign.com

The goats and horses are now living their best lives in a clean and organic landscape. Apple trees are a foodscaping element the goats find especially pleasing. Project Name: “East Coast Style.” Landscape Design by Paul Hendershot Design, Inc. paulhendershotdesign.com

Courtyard trees are aligned in a way for style, but more importantly for shade during the hot summers in Ojai. We also have pea gravel as an excellent lawn alternative. It’s easy to walk on barefoot and pets find it comfortable. Landscape Design by Paul Hendershot Design, Inc. paulhendershotdesign.com

A hiking trail preserving very old oaks. This design looks beautiful without the need for a thirsty lawn, or other impracticalities that can further harm California’s drought situation and the environment through chemicals like pesticides. Planning a landscape doesn’t mean more is better. Sometimes retaining existing elements and enhancing them is the way to go. Project Name: “The Butterfly House.” Landscape Design by Paul Hendershot Design, Inc. paulhendershotdesign.com Interior Design: maraya.com

Are you ready for an adult Easter egg hunt? There are 13 eggs hidden in this photo. Can you find them? Hints: some eggs are tiny and they’re all the same color. Good luck! Project Name: “Old Ojai.” Landscape Design by Paul Hendershot Design, Inc. paulhendershotdesign.com to and in collaboration with Sonny Ward junestreetarchitecture.com

A custom swimming pool with a lounging area. Access is given from two sets of staircases connecting the driveway, around the back of the house, or from the inner courtyard. Project Name: “The Hummingbird House.” Landscape Design by Paul Hendershot Design, Inc. paulhendershotdesign.com
