Bookmobiles

As part of National Library Week, today we celebrate bookmobiles and other library outreach programs! Minneapolis Public Library and Hennepin County Library both operated bookmobiles for decades. In fact, Hennepin County Library started 100 years ago as a rural bookmobile. Bookmobiles served communities without easy access to library buildings and even took the place of libraries closed for renovation. Hennepin County Library continues to bring library resources into the community, but the last bookmobile stopped its route in 2004.

Reason number infinity that libraries and librarians are awesome.

Just like a thousand stories shared between the night’s dark letters of love and tales never written whole, will our love be yet another chapter in the history of this world which never found the light of the suns?

??????!!!!

(nothing much, that’s just my constant mood <3)

Isn’t it strange how every natural phenomenon can be scientifically explained but our inner edgy-selves only find solace by relating everything to a theory where it’s all inevitably broken and universally doomed

Can y’all stop giving me homework??Like I just wanna light candles near the bathtub and spend the night reading the picture of Dorian Gray in warm water filled with rose petals and once in a while flirting with the moon because why not

Hollows of heart

The blood pours again.

Leaking through the cracks,

Dripping down the legs.

Finally a mirror

Under the feet.

Not roses.

Not thorns.

Just the shade of life

I kept running away from.

the stars love the moon, but the moon is too busy soaking in the light of the sun to know they exist. so they do it from afar- unrequited love.

the moon longs, and so do the stars, but even they know that they don’t even come close to the sun, drowning in it.

that’s when stars finally take the last fall.

…and we wish upon their heartbreaks to save our own.

some hands don’t hold swords

to strike you with

they hold memories and words

and words bleed worse than you ever could

do you ever think about why humans love to slow dance?

i think we find a reason to hold each other’s hearts for a while longer

“Time will heal everything.”

oh but what if time is the illness?

Falling into love?

You really can’t do anything. Except fall. Carelessly. Miraculously. Unknowingly. I wish you had control. Love is a place where your heart is free to dance to a rhythm you can never control.

Maybe that’s why you can’t control your heartbeat. Or who it beats for.

it was spring for me,

autumn for you.

you were waiting for the leaves to fall

while I was waiting for you.

The smallest things, knowing your best friend’s favorite ice cream flavor, the perfect amount of sugar your mom likes in her tea, the most repeated joke that will never fail to bring a smile on your lover’s face and knowing exactly what shade of blue your father likes best. That’s love right there, embedded in those small things, like a work of art.

“Public libraries are such important, lovely places!” Yes but do you GO there. Do you STUDY there. Do you meet friends and get coffee there. Do you borrow the FREE, ZERO SUBSCRIPTION, ZERO TRACKING books, audiobooks, ebooks, and films. Have you checked out their events and schemes. Do you sign up for the low cost courses in ASL or knitting or programming or writing your CV that they probably run. Do you know they probably have myriad of schemes to help low income families. Do you hire their low cost rooms if you need them. Have you joined their social groups. Do you use the FREE COMPUTERS. Do you even know what your library is trying to offer you. Listen, the library shouldn’t just exist for you as a nice idea. That’s why more libraries shut every year

If this post persuades even one person to get a free library account and use it, my time on this hellsite will not have been spent in vain

When I got laid off from my long time job back in 2020, I had no current resume and no working home computer, just my phone. The library made it possible to write a resume and cover letter, apply for unemployment, apply for jobs and print out any required forms related to the above.

All for free. 100% free. I didn’t pay a dime. I also decided that since I usually only read non picture books once, getting them from the library was the best way to do it and I don’t have to spend 8$-20$ for a novel or try and find a safe free download of it.

Libraries baby! A public good! The library is fun and educational! Also at my library you can rent a Gieger counter!

A lot of libraries are signed up with Kanopy, a video streaming service.

You get 20 free credits a month do watch whatever, and it’s not just oldy moldies - there are some really recent movies and documentaries on there.

Also you ever hear Great Courses? And see what they normally cost?

Free on Kanopy. Don’t even cost credits.

I’ve watched 24-part lecture series’ on extreme weather, cooking through history, science fiction literature, forensics history…

And it’s free with your library card.

Businessman and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie donated and built over 2,500 libraries worldwide between 1883 and 1929. The state of Ohio is ranked fifth in the nation for its number of Carnegie libraries with Cincinnati originally boasting nine libraries total. Today, Cincinnati and Hamilton County Public Library are still operating seven Carnegie branches. Our current Carnegie branches include: Avondale, Corryville, Hyde Park, Northside, Norwood, Price Hill and Walnut Hills. Cincinnati’s first Carnegie to open was Walnut Hills branch in 1906, with the others following soon after. Walnut Hills branch is currently part of Building the Next Generation Library plan and will see many updates including more square footage and greater accessibility.

Ok, I’ve seen this sentiment before, but the amount of Kindle Unlimited ads I’ve been seeing is forcing me to repeat it-

Kindle Unlimited is offering two free months of unlimited ebooks. As a trial. Which will then become a paid subscription.

Yourlocal library is offering unlimited ebooks all the time. Forever. No contracts, no predatory practices, no tracking of how long you spend on each particular page in the hopes that information about your habits can be sold for a profit.

Use your library. They want so badly to give you all of the things for free.
