The cool thing is, there’s still one person missing: Lyudmila Pavlichenko.
She was one of the deadliest snipers of World War II, and is regarded as one of the deadliest snipers of all time. Over the course of one year (June 1941-June 1942) she racked up a count of 309 kills, 36 of which were enemy snipers. Her prescence in the picture alone would have brought the total number of kills from 755 to 1064.

Le Morne est une montagne du sud-ouest de l’île Maurice qui servait de refuge aux esclaves en fuite (ou marrons) au XIXe siècle. Après l’abolition de l’esclavage, en 1835, une délégation de soldats britanniques a été dépêchée pour informer les fugitifs qu’iels étaient désormais juridiquement libres. Mais celleux-ci, croyant qu’on allait les arrêter et les enchaîner de nouveau, ont grimpé jusqu’au sommet de la montagne et plongé vers la mort. Dans cette performance qui se compose de rituels, de chants scandés, de poésie et de mouvement Kama La Mackerel ranime la figure de l’esclave et celle de la montagne – maintenant reconnue comme un lieu de résistance – honorant les mort·es et leur donnant une voix.
Le Morne is a mountain on the southwestern tip of the island of Mauritius that was a refuge for runaway slaves, called Maroons, in the 19th century. Upon the abolition of slavery in 1835, a delegation of British soldiers was dispatched to inform the Maroons of their emancipation. Believing that the army was actually there to recapture them, many of the former slaves climbed to the summit of the mountain and leapt to their deaths. In this performance composed on ritual, chants, poetry and movement, Kama La Mackerel revives the figure of the slave and the mountain – now a symbol of resistance – honouring and giving a voice to the dead.

Stayed up ‘til 4 in the morning working on this bad boy– a submission to the Women’s March on Washington call for art. I’d love for it to be chosen, knowing my artwork is there, standing strong for women’s rights when I wasn’t able to (I WILL be at the sister march in Austin though!) I’m also aware, though, that I went a little crazy with the illustrative part and it may not make for a great political poster… oh well!

This September, activists from around the globe will be descending upon New York City to demand for real solutions to the worsening global climate crisis. Most will come from the Global South, where plunder and large-scale, multinational extractive industries have not only ruined the environment, but people’s livelihood and security as well.
At the same time, in North, there is a growing cry from communities across the US for justice in response to more and more Black lives being taken by state-sponsored violence, in particular with of the events unfolding in Ferguson, Missouri.
But the ecological crisis and human rights crisis are not disparate phenomenons, even though the US and other state governments would like us to believe so. Both have their roots in the destructive nature of the global economy based on super-profits, war, militarization, and plunder.
Why should climate justice activists unite with human rights activists, particularly anti-police brutality and anti-racism activists? What links our struggles? And how can we work together in a movement that will hold the crises-makers accountable and allow us to take justice?
