Hufflepuff : I have decided that I’m, in fact, a snack. People are just not hungry.

Slytherin, under their breath : I’m starving

hogwartstribune:

  • Sit up straight- it might be a power asserting thing, it might just be a natural habit but I think Slytherins tend to have good posture
  • Be very selective- it’s not that they’re trying to be mean but if you don’t reach a standard that they have for people they just won’t be friends with you
  • Let sarcastic comments slip everywhere- to your friends, heck yeah. To your parents? Mostly when it’s all fun and games or maybe when they’rein a heated argument
  • Know where all your weak spots are- Slytherins are very observant and can usually figure out another person’s insecurities and weaknesses quickly. What they do with it is up to them
  • Tend to like privacy- I’m not saying all Slytherins are introverts but Slytherins definitely aren’t all about sharing their secrets with everyone
  • Subconsciously get really competitive- it doesn’t have to be in sports and anything all up in your face (though sometimes it really can be) but all Slytherins strive to be the best in what they like to do
  • FInd interest in deep mysterious things- inside every Slytherin I think there’s some Ravenclaw who’s really confused and just wants to read quotes all day. Slytherins tend to like things that have poetic meaning or relatability to them like the ocean, fog, cats, gothic architecture, and quotes that accurately describe their emotions
  • Always have a ton of blankets- maybe it’s a cold-blooded thing, maybe it’s the fact that the Slytherin common room is freezing and that’s what my mind carries with me but Slytherins tend to burrito themselves in blankets, always making sure to cover their feet completely and try to figure out how to get their hands underneath and still do whatever they’re doing
  • Have nervous habits- Yeah. Maybe playing with their hair or hands, maybe doodling, maybe tapping I don’t know. It’s unfortunately a sign of weakness but it’s just something they do

Messy eaters

RAVENCLAWS are messy eaters. You’ll find them in the corner of the dining hall with book in one hand and fork in the other. And if youll look closer youll find that they have bits of their curry on their lap.

Gryffindor / shy

There was a whole magnificent soul burning brightly behind her shy

Imagine Voldemort wanting to change something in his routine and attacking Harry in the middle of the school year during a Quidditch match:

-Potter, prepare to di-

Someone in Gryffindor colours runs between him and Harry, anger on his face. It’s Gryffindor’s team captain Olivier Wood.

-No, stop! What are you doing, we’re playing now! You can resolve this AFTER THE MATCH! Potter, what happened, you don’t look good! You still gonna play, we have to WIN!

And Voldemort sitting with his pals on the stands and stomping his foot impatiently

  • Read a good book. It doesn’t have to be something studious. I suggest poetry or a good fairytale for times that you want to disconnect yourself from your worries. Just sit by a window, allow yourself to sink into a pile of pillows, and immerse yourself into the words on the page.
  • Go stargazing with someone who will let you point out all the constellations that you know in the sky to them. Engage in delightful conversation about your hopes and fears while making up new constellations that amuse you.
  • Drink something iced, specifically in a glass cup with a straw so you can mix the drink and hear how the ice clinks against the sides of the glass. Try to notice how refreshed you feel after you take your first sip.
  • Have a friendly, or not so friendly if you’re the confrontational type, debate with someone about a topic that you really care about. Afterwards feel impressed with yourself for your witty comebacks and surprisingly wide area of knowledge about the topic, because you’ve naturally picked up information by just living life without even noticing it.
  • Try to create some form of art. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It doesn’t even have to be remotely beautiful to anyone else. Just allow the pencil or paintbrush or any artistic utensil to move you and create something that speaks to yourself and your emotions.
  • Wear bronze toned jewelry (rings, necklaces, earrings, etc.) and feel powerful and unique. Bronze isn’t exactly the most popular color for jewelry but you stand out with it. It’s strong and stately and hearkens back to ancient ages.
  • Spend an hour learning about a random topic that you’ve always been curious about. Learn for yourself, not a grade, or a teacher, or for any stressful tests in the future. Let yourself learn and soak in as much or as little as you like.
  • Sit in a public location, preferably with a nice drink and music pouring through headphones if you want to feel more secure instead of exposed to the elements, and people-watch. Notice the look in each person’s face as they walk by or how children still make sure to not step on cracks as their parents lead them by the hand. Feel connected to every other human being while feeling perfectly yourself at the same time.
  • Surround yourself with people you trust and be as weird or as goofy as you’d like to be. Say the jokes that come to your mind and act as true to yourself as you can. You don’t need to cover up your true personality.

Gryffindor: “Tom and Jerry”love- When I first met you I didn’t like you but somehow we grew from that. We play fight a lot and tease each other constantly, but I know we care for each other. We’ve become a solid friendship for troublemaking. When I realized I liked you, it hit me like a truck, and I knew I was screwed. It didn’t end well, I never told you because I didn’t think you’d feel the same way. Now I see you with her and I regret it.

Hufflepuff: “Cherry blossom”love- Loving you was easy. You are the most caring person I know. Whenever you asked me how I was doing, cherry blossoms bloomed in my heart. I honestly have never felt more loved by anyone and I will forever appreciate you for that. You are still such an important person in my life but I guess we were always more familial than romantic. I’m still so happy you love in any way at all.

Ravenclaw: “Nostalgic” love- I’ve known you forever it seems. You calm my nervous fidgeting and make me feel safe. I remember rainy Tuesdays when you would play me new songs or even better, we’d sing them together. You smell like home to me and your arms feel even more like it. I’m constantly in that sleepy, euphoria, at-peace state when you explain how much I mean to you. I don’t ever want to ruin what we have now, so I’ll never tell you how much more you truly mean to me.

Slytherin: “Starry Eyed” love- I see galaxies in your eyes but I know you’d never take time to stare into mine. You were my most painful unrequited love. We never stood on solid ground together in whatever relation we had. You always kept me guessing, but I loved you with my whole chest I always knew you’d go on to change the world and leave me behind. Loving you was an inevitable occurrence, just like how I always look at the stars when I’m outside at night. I just wish you were always around like the stars are.

Slytherin:

Waits for you- Slytherins always want to be first in whatever group they’re in when on the move, maybe its a pride issue but anyway they walk pretty fast. However if you’re someone they care about and they see you falling behind the group they’ll slow their pace down or even come to a full stop to let you catch up.

Confide in you- Yes this is technically something all people do when they trust a person but its a bit more serious in Slytherin’s case. Slytherins are all about self preservation and basically refusing to look weak. Showing insecure, sad, or unsure thoughts also comes with a lot of vulnerability. If a Slytherin opens up to you, you should really cherish that they trust you so never betray them. If you do betray them, there’s plenty of dirt they have accumulated on you, intentionally or not.

Keep your secrets- Kind of falling in line behind Slytherins confiding in you, if a Slytherin loves you, they will carry your secrets to the grave (unless you do something really bad to them, like betray them) Slytherins have a bad habit for gossip. Its not that they always seek secrets out, sometimes they overhear conversations or some people will just tell them everything, not realizing exactly the possible consequences. However if a Slytherin loves you they would never pass on your secrets to others for fun, advantages, other secrets, or the trust of those other people. Just don’t betray them, that’s one of the worst things you can do to a Slytherin.

Hufflepuff-

Surprises you- It doesn’t always have to be a big surprise like a party or something. Sometimes Hufflepuffs will just show up, drop a little gift in your lap (the majority of the time food) and give you a smile. They truly enjoy doing these things for you because Hufflepuffs know better than anyone that everyone needs a pick me up from time to time. It’s their way of checking on your stress levels as well.

They will defend you- Hear me out. Hufflepuff will always defend anyone who is being targeted unfairly, that’s just their nature. The thing is though, most Hufflepuffs (in my opinion) will do this with a relatively level head. They will seek out the root of the problem and try to solve whatever argument in before them. However when it comes to someone they love being targeted they can show a bit of the Hufflepuff temper that they usually have reigned in. If someone is just genuinely being rude to you and won’t back down, Hufflepuff’s loyal nature takes over and they aren’t afraid to join a yelling match to protect you. It most likely won’t end in anything physical because most people know Hufflepuffs are usually good natured and just the fact that they are angry may tip the instigator of the problem to back off, but Hufflepuffs aren’t afraid of a fist fight. Later they may feel bad about causing you trouble because of their anger, but that’s when the reassurance that they are a good person should kick in for you.

They will comfort you- Hufflepuffs are always low-key worrying about the people they love. So when you come to them late at night with a shaky voice and wavering eyes, they won’t hesitate to scoop you up, find a comfortable place to sit, and hold you while you tell them what the problem is. This house is particularly good at remembering all the little things that calm you down like trailing their nails lightly over your skin or playing with you hair. After you’ve calmed down and explained everything they will spend the time afterwards trying to cheer you up with maybe hot cocoa and a movie.

Ravenclaw-

Will take your criticism- Ravenclaw don’t like to be told they’re wrong. Nothing annoys a Ravenclaw more than unwanted criticism, but if someone they love (*ahem* you) tries to help them learn from their mistakes, they know you truly want what’s best for them.

They let you calm them down- Ravenclaw tend to get anxious and stressed more easily than other houses, in my opinion (except maybe Hufflepuffs). If they go into panic attack mode, they tend to shut down or lash out on the people around them. Its a defensive mechanism that many Ravenclaw acquire because they never want anyone to see them not as their best. But when you comfort them they’re willing to lean into your arms and try to match their uneven breathing to your steady one.

Will ramble to you- Ravenclaws rambling about the things they love to the people to love is my aesthetic. They get a sparkle in their eye and a excited smile. They know you won’t judge them for being slightly nerdy about whatever they want to tell you. When they love you, they instill their trust in you that lets them feel comfortable enough to talk on and on, which can normally be difficult for some Ravenclaws as they can be people of few words. When they do ramble onto you, you’ll get to see one of their softest sides.

Gryffindors-

Will shower you in affection- This can be different for many types of Gryffindors. The stereotypical loud ones will usually become an affectionate fluff ball who tends to cling onto you like a koala. These are the types who will shout complements to hype you up and have absentminded soft smiles when they look at how beautiful you are. Quieter Gryffindors will show their affection in good morning and good night texts or giving you shy complements daily. Their eyes show how in love they are with you.

Looks for you in a crowd- Gryffindors tend to be social people or, even if they’re not, a fair amount of Gryffindor introverts get dragged to social things. You tend to be a touchstone for any type of Gryffindor. In a crowd of people their eyes are scanning for you and they will smile in relief when they find you. It really shows that you are the person they care most about.

They respect you so much- Now don’t get me wrong, all the houses respect their s/o’s but Gryffindor really takes the title for it. Chivalry isn’t dead (for either gender) and they will be the most polite endearing people by opening doors, carrying your things, and protecting you for mean people. They seriously respect you so much and will never take anything to far if you are uncomfortable in any way. Their admiration for you also falls under this category but they seriously admire everything that you do in general: your work ethic, they way you treat people, your beauty. They will never waste your time by showing up late to a date. They will never flirt with anyone else. Gryffindors love with their whole heart and the way they treat you honestly shows it.

Hogwarts Houses as Van Gogh Quotes

Hufflepuff: “How wonderful the color yellow is. It stands for the sun.”

Ravenclaw: “I don’t know anything with certainty, but seeing the stars makes me dream.”

Gryffindor: “What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?”

Slytherin: “I put my heart and soul into my work, and I have lost my mind in the process.”

A York Peppermint Pattie being split open next to your ear, porcelain teacups being clinked together, a grand piano being played in an empty room, leaves crunching underneath your feet, coffee beans being ground up, the pages of a book being turned absentmindedly, a nightingale, foam soap dispensers, a clock ticking, a computer being typed on with quick fingers, that sound when someone is messaging your head through your hair, silk being pressed against silk, crickets on a summer night, air howling by an ajar door, knocking on wood

*Warning: this post is not necessarily about depression but can be read as it. Please use your own judgment whether or not you want to read it*

Hufflepuff: the type that you feel constantly. Soft people aren’t weak. They’re strong enough to let their emotions show, remember that. Their sadness will show on their face, in their decisions. Hufflepuffs need someone to save them from themselves when they slip into sadness, luckily most have found loyal friends who will stick next to them through thick and thin

Ravenclaw: the recluse type of sadness. They won’t speak as much or show interest in their favorite things. Ravenclaws will sleep even more than normal and always use the tired excuse but the light in their eyes aren’t shining anymore. They need to be shaken awake as if it were a bad dream. If you can set them on the right course they’ll realize what’s wrong as well

Gryffindor: at first they’ll be angry. They’ll question the things that are happening in their life. Why them? Why did this happen? Then it will turn self-destructive. They’ll binge, they’ll lock themselves away. They pull back from their activities and their immune system plummets for some reason. They have much more mood swings, like a time bomb with no clock for detonation

Slytherin: they turn numb. The hardest to pick out exactly what’s wrong with them. They hide their pain really well because in their mind pain is a weakness and they would rather die than show their weakness. Become distrustful of everything they once thought was stable. Need someone to help them but not large enough for the Slytherin to notice or they’ll refuse the help

Hufflepuff:Late night snacks. Sleeping with a pet in your room/on your bed. Making up those perfect conversation in your head that let’s be honest you’ll probably never say in real life. Trying to count sheep then getting distracted by wondering why it’s not counting iguanas or something (also applies for Ravenclaw tbh, sorry)

Ravenclaw:Procrastinating. Complaining about how late it is and how tired you are and then staying up at least 2 more hours. Trying to teach yourself to lucid dream but constantly falling asleep before you actually can. Calculating how much sleep you’ll get if you fall asleep right now

Gryffindor: Constantly waking up in the middle of the night to pull the covers you kicked off, back onto your body. Sneak out of your house with friends (not that I’ve done that cuz I’m pretty lame tbh). I think they’re pretty heavy sleepers tbh like once a Gryffindor is asleep it takes at least 10 alarms to wake them up

Slytherin: Cuddling with someone (surprise I bet you thought this was going in a different house), listening to music to fall asleep. Thinking back over everything you’ve done that day and cringe at the stupid things you’ve said. Heavy or light sleepers depending on how much sleep they know they’re gonna get, like when I know I’m only gonna get 3 hours I wake up on my first alarm, if I’m sleeping more than 8, someone literally has to shake me awake

Hufflepuff: That icky-sicky feeling you have for the next two weeks. Stuffy noses that randomly turn into running noses then not having a tissue in class

Ravenclaw: All the little things. Your eyes stinging, which makes you sleep for crazy long hours. Not wanting some of your favorite foods. Sneezing, a lot.

Gryffindor: Throwing up. Yeah, I know, I’m sorry but someone had to get this one. It’s randomly timed and makes you lose your appetite

Slytherin: The chills. Am I cold or am I burning up under these covers? The world may never know. *Proceeds to throw covers off*

In honor of the flu season going around right now. I’m in this in between sick stage but I getsuper dizzy and almost faint if I do anything strenuous. So I’m probably gonna have to skip my musical’s choreo rehearsal tomorrow and a friend’s birthday party *Siiiigh* Well stay healthy everyone~ :)

Hufflepuff: Become the mediator and try to see both sides of the disagreement or fight. Just trying to reestablish peace and get people to talk to each other again. Complete with cracking a joke at the end. If I make the joke too early we have to start the peace treaty from scratch *sigh*

Ravenclaw: Tear down the opponent’s argument with logic. If there’s even a crack in their reason for being angry I push at it until they realize they were in the wrong. It normally gets me the silent treatment for a few days because they’re so angry I outsmarted them

Slytherin: My signature death glare. Apparently, it scares people? I never really notice when I do it. I don’t have to be included in the fight but apparently my “eyes could kill”? Not my words but not gonna lie there’s a bit of satisfaction in it

Gryffindor: Step in between two parties in an argument. Normally it’s to protect the weaker person from the angrier. I tend to do it in every fight I get in whether it’s with a parent yelling at a sibling or a teacher getting angry in class at one of my friends, I’m super overprotective

Hufflepuff: Forgetting to make a note on a fanfic series I like and losing it in a mass of other writings only to look for it for a good thirty minutes

Ravenclaw: Misspelling something in a post and only noticing it after it gets a ton of notes

Gryffindor: Writing a huge long headcanon and then accidentally deleting it

Slytherin: Accidentally deleting a Tumblr search page that had more posts I want to look at bc the profile I clicked on had an URL that took me to another page.

All: Just scroll down one more time and then start your homework, it’ll be fine

A freshly made espresso. The lingering scent after using oil paint and paint thinner. The pages of an old book. The air outside after a thunderstorm has passed.  Leather jackets, looking badass isn’t just for Slytherin. Fresh eucalyptus leaves when they’re plucked and twisted. Salted caramel candies. Sweet wine. Pressed and dried flowers. Chai tea with a cinnamon stick to swirl. Nutella on animal crackers. Nail polish remover fumes. Wet autumn leaves stuck to the pavement on a road. An aftershave that makes head turns when you walk by. Peach or strawberry flavored candy. Quill ink

Holiday spiced candles, those type that are always red and have a hint of cinnamon in them. Sandalwood. Classic looking motorcycles with those strong rubber scented tires. Maraschino cherries. The smoke from fireworks. Campfires and marshmallows that accidentally catch on fire. Freshly washed hair. Your lover’s sweatshirt. Sweat, let’s be honest people. Apple anything: pie, strudels, applesauce, apple juice. Spray paint (not acrylic, there’s a difference I swear) and rubber cement. Strawberry jam. Broomstick polisher and butterbeer. What you picture whiskey smelling like, not necessarily how it actually smells. Gummy bears (fight me) or milk chocolate.

Freshly cut grass. Honey and lemon tea. Freshly washed laundry. Walking through a garden with flowers that have just bloomed. Alfredo pasta. The scent when you walk into a Lush store. Rusty metal things like bikes or wrenches. Kettlecorn and cotton candy. Raspberry vinaigrette salad dressing. Like your childhood home when you walked back in, coming home from school. Speaking of school, colored pencils. Not necessarily coffee but coffee shops, those little cafés with little patisseries and comfy cushions. Wool scarves. Coconuts, all the way, maybe with some pineapple. Vanilla ice cream.

amusingslytherin:

This is an official thank you to the house elves who keep the Slytherin common room fireplace going. Our toes appreciate you.
