This is a good point to make in general, and good on Reynolds for using the occasion of this movie to make it, but it’s kind of a strange statement to be making in the context of Deadpool, which is much more a love story than any other kind of movie. It’s the love story that motivates the characters and underpins the plot, and it feels far more important than any of the film’s superheroics (though that last point might have something to do with last-minute budget cuts, which forced the producers to scrap several fight scenes). And certainly the love story feel more successful than the film’s attempt to be outrageous and boundary-pushing.
In one of its earliest scenes, Deadpoolcomes out and says “this is actually a love story.” That is the truest statement it makes about itself, and the one aspect at which it fully works.
at this point in his career, I think directors just give Ryan Reynolds the plot to a movie and he just makes up the dialogue as he goes bc there is no way any of the shit he says in his movies is planned and not just him saying whatever he thinks would make the movie go on

Shiversby JadeNoRyuu - There’s follow-ups, but the main story is really interesting. I also don’t know if the writer’s first language is English, but that makes it even more commendable.
Epiphanyby TorScrawls - Maddie and Jack get character development, and that makes Danny panic lol. There are separate epilogues.
Broken Ectoplasmby ghostanimal - Very nice story, more Parental Angst, and Danny is incapable of speech for almost all of it. Jack realizes how much of an ass Vlad is without Vlad knowing.
Bitterby thatgirl_youknowtheone ❌ - Vlad fucking poisons Jack at the man’s own b-day party. Jack does not realize he is dead, angst ensues when Danny tells him.
