#fifth edition
Inspiration hit.
It’s “The Wizard of Zo,” except…. actually it’s just the “Wizard of Zo.”
I was really happy with how the Gravewalker Ranger turned out. So, the obvious inspiration for this particular subclass is most definitely Talion from Shadow of War/Mordor. I really enjoyed the game, and I wanted to make a subclass that had a similar vibe.
This is one of those ones where I did something a little different - I made it fairly customisable, because I feel like with ranger that’s a fairly common problem. I was pretty happy with how it turned out.
The art on this is just a picture of Talion from Shadow of War, but my boyfriend is drawing up art of his ranger, who will be a Gravewalker Conclave when I run a game for him.
Once again, I’ve done my best with the alt text, and included a link to the homebrewery hereso that people can see it there as well! Hope that you enjoy it.
Stay fresh, cheesebags.
Hello there!
Hi there! I’m Dany, a nonbinary D&D content creator, dungeon master, player, and cast member of the Buddies & Battles D&D actual play on YouTube.
In my freetime I like to make D&D content! I’ve been putting some of my homebrew stuff together into a compendium, but that is a very lengthy process.
In the meantime I thought it would be of benefit to me and interest to tungle dot hell at large if I posted some things here. Consider this pinned post my master post.
Please feel free to share my posts, and comment if you have any thoughts or opinions. If you’re just a rude motherfucker I’m going to ignore you, though. Fair warning.

The Painted Lady
Any number of upscale tattoo parlors, piercing studios, and BDSM dungeons exist in Chicago, but only one can claim to be completely exclusive. Edith Beaubien’s by-invitation-only salon is something of a legend among ink collectors, body modification enthusiasts, and those seeking an edge to their sexual kinks. Invitations to events hosted at The Painted Lady are coveted by certain elements among the city’s Kindred, but the truest indication that one has “arrived” upon the Chicago scene is the receipt of a slim, metal membership card and a tattoo or piercing bearing the distinctive Painted Lady style. While many strive to collect ink from Beaubien herself, only longstanding VIPs may boast of that honor. It is even rumored some of the most prominent Kindred in the world have been passed over for membership in favor of random Thin Bloods, Caitiff, and Anarchs with seemingly nothing at all to recommend them.
Vamp tattoo artist. Gives me ideas. I really would love to design a Kindred setup for Tokyo…
I want you to look me in the eyes and tell me that your favorite D&D Character isn’t just you, but fantasy
Me: “I have planned out the BBEG of this campaign. He will strike terror into the hearts of my players!”
Cool new CR 41 Monster that I found: Can make swords magically appear out of the ground
Me, VIOLENTLY SWEEPING EVERYTHING OFF MY DESK WITH MY ARMS: “NEVERMIND”
WHY AM I SO BLIND
I’ve been making my character, Oremil, as a backup backup character for so many campaigns. BUT
There’s SUCH A BETTER OPTION! I COULD JUST MAKE MAFWY, HIS PET RAT, AS A CHARACTER!
It would have to be a setting with a Ratfolk race, or one that has Shifters, but STILL!
I miss that sassy rat with his Boston accent
Sorry for disappearing, I was busy being an edgy player character and burning down orphanages!
I’m back from jail now
One of My Players: “Yeah, my character’s parents are dead. Murder, the usual”
Me: Aight, can work with that
A Different Player: “Actually, my parents are both alive! And both of my siblings are alive as well”
Me:NOW THIS! THIS I CAN WORK WITH!!
Something More DMs Should Do:
If Tabaxi exist in your world, and you or your players have pet cats
Make the cats Tabaxi NPCs
Like, one of my campaigns had my cat, Ranger, as a chubby trader (that my players sadly never got to meet)
(Pictures of Ranger as cat tax)
You know a relationship is good if you’re competing to have more dice than the other person.
(my girlfriend has 43 sets, I have 42 sets. I’m so close to having more than her, but I’m so picky with what I buy)
Character Profile: Oremil Sijuar
Content Warning: There is mention of s//c/de
(Art by my lovely friend Teddy, they don’t have a tumblr)
Race:
Zariel Tiefling
Class:
Level 8 Pugilist (homebrew by Benjamin Huffman)
Subclass:
Bloodhound Bruiser
Background:
Urchin
Best Friend:
Mawfy the Rat (pictured on his shoulder)
Slof, a Minotaur Paladin
Inventory:
Explorer’s Pack, Letters + Knickknacks stolen from Math God Cult, Magic Weighted Dice, Woodcarver’s tools, Winter Clothes
Important Items:
The Key: A seemingly magic key that can unlock any non-magical lock.
Ring of Rodents: A magic ring that allows the wearer to speak to rodents.
Ideals:
To help those in need. When earning any kind of money, half is set aside for Oremil to use as he sees fit. The other half is given to the nearest orphanage, as soon as possible.
Goals:
To defeat Zariel, and replace them as the ruler of the Domain– To better the lives of those living there.
The Origin Story:
“You’ve been basically alone for as long as you can remember. In your youngest years, you explored old buildings on the outskirts of the city and took food from a family’s home while they were out in the fields. You lived in an old farmhouse whose owner killed himself until you were 11. Some things happened, and you ended up in a foster home. You used the key to break into a store room to give the other kids more food, and you used the key to break yourself out when you got caught. You fled that particular foster home, and you used the key to break into an abandoned building, where you lived for another year and a half before being caught stealing, and you were old enough that you were imprisoned. You used the key to break yourself out. Since then, you’ve only used it one time: freeing a little rat from a cage.“
—————————————————————–
However, this story is not the truth. The Key he possesses is not magical whatsoever. It’s a symbol for a god- The Hush, God of Secrets, Locks, Keys, Tricks, and Lies.
Using the key, requires a sacrifice– A sacrifice of memories.
The Real Origin Story:
“You were born to Maron and Boromir Konson. Your sister, Grace, was born when you were four. You met your best friend, Kalon, down by the river between your two farms. His father was like an uncle to you. Your mother left when you were 7, and your father left when you were 10. Your best friend died when you were both only 11. You cried at his burial, and you held your sister tight. You were beaten by Mother Caney at the orphanage, and you stole food for your starving sister. You went to prison at the age of 14, and you saved a little rat from a rat-catcher’s cage. You gave your memories away to the last living god, you spent your earnings helping orphans, and your name is Mawfy Konson“
—————————————————————–
His mother left the key to him when she left when he was 7. He forgot her first, breaking into an old, abandoned building to explore with a friend.
His father left him and his sister in the care of a family friend (a widower and farmer, and father of his friend) to find his mother when he was 10. He forgot his father sneaking in to the widower’s bedroom.
The friend died in a tragic accident while the three explored when he was 11. The widower sent the children to a foster home in the city and killed himself.
He forgot the childhood friend breaking in to the storeroom for more food when he was 12. His sister was caught with the food and locked up and punished for it.
He forgot the widower freeing her. They left that night. He forgot the unkind caretaker breaking into an abandoned building.
They lived there for a year and a half, before he was caught stealing at the age of 14. He forgot his sister breaking himself out.
He used the key only once more, freeing a little rat from a rat-catcher’s cage, where he forgot himself– Giving the name he once used to the rat.
Exciting Side Quest Idea #2:
Have the party be kidnapped! They wake up, wearing commoner clothes, and all of their items gone.
They only have an empty waterskin and 2 days worth of rations.
They are then hunted by the people who captured them (a small party of nobles with a 1-2 level advantage on the players).
