In the August issue, Junko shares with us her thoughts on the daily wisdom of cooling down in Kyoto. Her essay features suggestions on how to enjoy the summer season, as well as photographs of Junko in summer kimono taken in the Arashiyama and a traditional Machiya house in Kyoto. In the July issue, Junko shares with us her thoughts on the importance of “Hare and Ke” (the ordinary and festive). She shares here thoughts on this cultural wisdom that has been a part of Kyoto life since ancient times. The July issue features photographs of Junko in kimono taken in the Gion district of Kyoto, featuring its Tang Dynasty atmosphere. She explains why she choose her summer kimono for that day and introduces one of her famous delicious summer sweets of Kyoto. 雪輪に吉祥尽くしの着物で初詣。
空模様も心模様も、晴れやかなりて
The first shrine visit of the year wearing a kimono with an auspicious pattern. The sky and my heart are bright.
Fushimi Inari shrine in the early morning.
The Torii is literally the meaning of “Passing through” and is said to be the gateway from the world in which we are (present world) in which God is (ghost world). Whenever I pass through this Torii gate, my heart becomes even more calm.
早朝の伏見稲荷。
鳥居とは「通り入る」の意味があり、私たちがいる世界（現世）から、神様がいる世界（幽界）への関門なのだうです。
いつもこちらの千本鳥居を通る時は、いっそう心が静まりかえりますね。
Kimono style of the last day. Kimono was worn by my grandmother decades ago.
過日の装い。
祖母が着ていた着物に何十年ぶりに袖を通しました。
裄丈や身丈も短いし、地味だと思い箪笥の肥やしになっていましたが、
よく見るとグレーのような色はすべて銀糸で、控えめな煌めきがとても好みでした
八掛と羽織の色がぴったりなのは、小さな歓び。
羽織紐のグラデーションや細やかな織りに、うっとり。
着物を纏うと満悦になりますね。
秋晴れの昼下がり

相良刺繍の帯は、鹿が施されていてこの時節に合いますね
着物と帯は祖母から、山葡萄の蔓バッグは母から譲り受けたものです。

風が吹くたびに優しくそよぐ姿と澄み切った音色が、涼を運んできてくれますね。
A beautiful bell is a symbol of summer in Japan. They are made of metal or glasses. When the wind blews, they ring. The sound makes us a little cooler in hot summer.
