akumaii:

apomíromantic

anarospec orientation in which one does not experience romantic attraction, but occasionally feels as if they do. One can be perfectly aware that the attraction is fake, non-romantic or being misunderstood, but the feelings stay there. This fake attraction feels like what one imagines a crush feels like, and may consume one’s thoughts despite one not wanting to be attracted to the person in question. It may be caused by or related to neurodivergence or amatonormativity, but it doesn’t have to be.

Etymology: apomí coming from the Greek word “απομίμηση” (pronounced as “apomímisi”) meaning fake + romantic

Next up in our Aspec Voices series is Aros who have been in or want romantic relationships! Thanks to everyone wo contributed, including @a-romantic–aromantic!

These graphics feature some quotes from the article, which you can read in full here: https://taaap.org/2022/02/24/asaw-22-aros-romance/

[ID: “I really enjoy affection and the act of being cared for in a romantic way, but I also need my partners to understand that I don’t have relationship hierarchies in my head- I don’t value them more than my friends. “ - Alex. “Ideally I wouldn’t live with my partner, we’d have our own space, and they’d understand I’m seeking intimacy and closeness more than romance and sex.” - Ky. “I largely try to stay away from it, but I’ve seen quite a bit of anti-romance sentiment coming from some aro people, and I understand ranting about it, I understand wanting nothing to do with it, but the homophobic, racist, and ableist implications of being anti-romance make me uncomfortable.” - Magpie.

“Being aromantic affects a lot of aspects of my relationships. Since I’m aroflux, my orientation switches around a lot. I’ll go from being romantically attracted to someone to suddenly wanting no romance at all.“ - Mars Naomi. “You don’t need to be hungry to think the cake looks delicious. You don’t need to feel a romantic attraction to want to do the cutesy mushy romantic stuff. - Amalthæ. “[Aromanticism] also means I am barely ever interested in someone despite pretty much constantly wanting to be which is frustrating.” - Theo. This is a little comic I made about the journey I went through in discovering that I’m ace and coming out. It’s drawn in the same simple style I used for my hourlycomics, which is really only a step above thumbnails, but I wanted to go ahead and share it. At some point I plan to redraw it properly for my comic siteandTapastic account, and maybe even print it!

One thing about the comic’s timeline that I wanted to address… When I first came out as ace on social media last November, I actually did come out as demisexual. But since that time, I gained a greater understanding of both myself and the ace and aro spectrums, and realized that demiromantic ace was a much more accurate fit for me.

In the months that followed my coming out as ace on social media, I slowly began coming out to close family and friends in real life. I was worried about how the people closest to me would react, but it’s gone pretty well so far!

I made this comic to address the doubts, questions, and confusing aspects of myself that made it so hard to understand or explain how I felt before I found the ace community. I especially wanted to represent those who, like me, didn’t realize they were ace for years because they were misinformed or didn’t even know it was an option… who fall into the gray area of the ace spectrum or aren’t sure how to define their asexuality… who worry about whether they’re “ace enough” because they’re gray ace, sex favorable, or both. I hope this comic helps any fellow aces who feel like they can relate to it! :)

(And BTW… any flames from discoursers about my support for ace inclusion in the LGBTQIA+ community will be used to toast marshmallows and then deleted.) ;)

It’s National Coming Out Day, so I thought I’d give this comic a reblog! It tells the story of my journey of self-discovery, questioning, and coming out as demiromantic ace. :)

arotaro: I tried my hand at making an allosexual aromantic flag, after some discussion with others; arotaro: I tried my hand at making an allosexual aromantic flag, after some discussion with others;

arotaro:

I tried my hand at making an allosexual aromantic flag, after some discussion with others; It was fairly well received on Arocalypse, so I thought I’d post it here. Obviously, no one has to use this flag if they don’t want to, and if you’re interested, I’ve created a survey to gather input on the flag: https://goo.gl/forms/PFINgMKNDfa0UDLh2

It was important to me that the flag very obviously look like an offshoot of the aro flag, and I kept the shades of green the same as the aro flag for convenience of use. The color gold was chosen as the second color not only because it looks nice with green, but also because it’s the opposite of purple on the color wheel (with purple being the color associated with asexuality). As for what the color stripes represent:

  • Green - The aromantic community. Our place in this community and the solidarity and support we share with fellow aros. (Aro green.)
  • Light green - Lack of attraction, differentiating us from others. This obviously includes lack of romantic attraction, but can also include aros who don’t desire close platonic partnerships, aros who identify as ace-spec along with another sexual orientation, etc. (Also aro green, because lack of romantic attraction is what makes us aro.)
  • White - Diversity of sexuality. For welcoming and uniting all allosexual aros, no matter what their sexual orientation, and for acknowledging a broad range of sexual experiences and relationships with one’s own sexuality. (White, because white light is made up of all other colors of light mixed together.)
  • Light gold - Relationships, be they sexual relationships, QPRs, romantic relationships, friendships, family bonds, or any other type of relationships. (Light gold, because our relationships are important and precious, but not always necessary or defining of who we are.)
  • Gold - Inhererent wholeness and worth. We aren’t missing anything. We’re not broken, we don’t need anyone to complete us, and we are born perfect the way we are. We’re individuals and we have just as much worth as anyone else. (Gold, because we’re gold.)
