Our theme for the contingent this year is Save The B’s! Just as bees (and other pollinators) are an integral part of our natural ecosystem, bisexuals are an integral part of our queer community. We’ve made LG(bee)T signs for people to carry, bee costumes are highly encouraged, and we’ll have a bunch of chenille stems to make antennae on the morning of the parade, as well. Giant B placards or balloons! are welcome and encouraged too.

TheBay Area Bisexual Network(BABN) is based in San Francisco with members from all over the Bay Area. (all quotes taken from the publicly available City of West Hollywood Lesbian and Gay Advisory Board 11/12/15 minutes: http://binetusa.blogspot.com/…/bi-weho-city-council-event-j…)

“…if bisexual people want to have their own board, the City should do that, but that it would not be serving bisexual people well to have their issues combined with others.”

“…spoke against having a separate board, because younger people are moving toward not defining themselves in these ways…”

“…the Board could ask the City Council to begin a Bisexual Task Force.”

ED. NOTE. The LA Bi Task Force regularly holds events and meetings in West Hollywood.

“…the Board is barely able to get through the agenda it already has, without adding an additional subject.”

“…moved to ask the City Council to consider whether there is a need to form a Bisexual Task Force to do a needs assessment of the bisexual community.”

ED. NOTE. The LA Bi Task Force published a bisexual needs assessment of Greater Los Angeles in 2015, and hosted the launch of the needs assessment in the community room at Plummer Park in West Hollywood.

“…supports the idea of asking the City Council to consider a Bisexual Task Force, but that she had joined a Lesbian and Gay board.”

“…talk to their own Councilmembers to see if there is a need for this in the community, and if so, to possibly come back with it in the future.

”…said the Board spends a large majority of its time on gay issues, and that people of all orientations might be better served by having one large board.“

”…said members were appointed to represent their particular identity as gay or lesbian, and that he didn’t want to presume to speak on someone else’s identity.“

“said that we are moving toward having one voice as a community, and would like to help people form an LGBT task force, seeing the changing nature of the community…”

More Than Half of the LGB Community Is Bisexual

Graph by GLAAD from their new guide for reporting on the bi community (made in partnership with BiNet USA,Bi Resource Center, and Bi Organizing Project.) Stats from a study by the Williams Institute.

Note: Trans people were included in the guide, though this graph is specifically about sexuality. Unfortunately, the study referenced for this graph didn’t include any other sexualities or non-binary people. The guide, however, does.

invisible-goats:

Bi visibility day’s coming up so special shout out to my biromantic aces, who may feel a bit lost when everyone’s saying biSEXUAL, my bisexual aromantics who are discounted because they don’t date, and my nonbinary bis who are told one of their identities erases the other

Pan vs. bi discourse is so stupid just let people have their labels. I’m transandbi and my sister is pan and we buy each other, each other’s respective flags and cute pride gifts and there’s literally no problem stop telling people what their own label means or that their label isn’t ‘inclusive’ enough when it is and always has been or that their label is too new and is trying to replace things that already exist just stop. Just let people use the labels they are comfortable with. Please. It’s not that hard.

We already have homophobes/transphobes who hate every single one of us despite which LGBTQIA+ members you may personally think are legit or not. They hate us all. So can we please come together as a community instead of fighting amongst ourselves? This goes for terfs, aro/ace spec exclusionists, and enby exclusionists as well. Just stop. It’s not getting you anywhere. The homophobes and transphobes still hate you even if you hate us with them. We need to show strength and unity. Stop hurting people and especially kids in your own community.

Please consider checking out and backing this project! I recently did art for one of the stories included in it. I’ve read through the previews for the rest of the book and honestly was just left feeling so warm and fuzzy. I promise it’s such a sweet book with so much goodness <3
