TIP OF THE DAY - How To Make Tracking Calories Easy

Just to give you some context, this photo is giving you an insight into a weight training session I did when it was snowing recently - I’m fairly sure it was below 0 degrees celsius!
Anyway, to answer the question —> It can be very daunting when someone mentions how you need to ‘track calories’ if you want to achieve your fitness goals in the quickest time frame. However, there is an app called ‘MyFitnessPal’ which makes tracking food very simple. It gives you the ability to track your food intake daily and keep a record of how many calories, carbohydrates, fats, and protein you’re intaking. For example, if you decide to eat a dairy milk chocolate bar, you can either scan the food item by using the barcode on the packet OR you can search for the food item on the MyFitnessPal database, insert how much you ate of the food item (in this case, 1 bar), then this will automatically be logged into your daily food intake chart and it will show you the amount of calories the item was as well as how many carbohydrates, fats, and protein it contained.

LOW CARB DIETS - GOOD OR BAD?

In this video I discuss the good/bad effects of following a low carb diet, I would like your opinion on this topic so give the video a watch (link below);

The main issue with low carb diets for me personally, is that people jump to low carb diets or zero carb diets (also typically known as a keto diet) way too quickly so they experience many negative effects from eating low carbs. These effects can include prolonged feelings of lethargy and low energy, impaired performance when it comes to exercising, and productivity is negatively effected. If the body goes from eating moderate to high carb with a typical person’s diet, but then this person decides to eat strictly low to zero carbs, the body may react negatively due to this drastic change. Instead, if you’re thinking of switching to a low carb diet (this could be due to managing diabetes, being gluten free), if possible, try and take carbohydrates slowly away from your diet whilst adding in more foods higher in fat, therefore this gradual process will give your body more time to adjust to eating lower carbs and this means your exercise performance shouldn’t be hindered that much.

For the first time in my life I am trying detox dieting. I successfully did two days along with my other resolutions of eating clean, waking up early and doing an hour of yoga daily.

Well this morning before my alarm even rang, I woke up extremely nauseous and a few minutes later there I was sick as a dog.

For the first time ever trying a detox and only surviving two days into it, well let’s just say it hasn’t been the best experience.

I can’t blame it all on the detox pills though, I have been drinking body health oolong and green tea blend. The tea has nothing diet about it and it’s not like some cure all for weight loss like a FitTea (which by the way has anyone ever tried it? Does it even work?). The detox pills in itself aren’t a cure all fiber thing either, they have dandelion which is good for detoxing your liver, especially after drinking!

All in all, I don’t think I am going to stop my detox just because of this one bad day. I think, I may just take only three of the six recommended pills and maybe drink my one tea.

If that doesn’t solve the issue and I’m back to this I guess I’ll just have to tweak as I go along. Ever since I started doing yoga I have been more mindful about what my body tells me. Your body is amazing and will tell you exactly how it feels, all you have to do is listen.

Not quite where I would like to be, but this slower approach has at least been better for maintaining my lean muscle mass. Next week I start working with my coach and I’m super excited because then I can stop worrying about if I’m making enough progress That’s a primary reason why even the smartest people get coached through their preps. It’s so hard to be objective when you’re looking in the mirror. Whether you’re too lenient with yourself or panicking because you’re not leaning out quickly enough, coaching yourself through a prep can be really difficult. By putting your prep into someone else’s hands, you don’t have to worry about any of that anymore; you just execute. Just please make sure a coach has your health at the forefront before you start working with them!

I start and end every day with protein oatmeal I wake up with oatmeal and whey protein, which is faster digesting and good for breaking that fast. Then at night, I have this deliciousness which is basically dessert I add a scoop of chocolate Optimum Nutrition casein protein and a tablespoon of Crazy Richard’s 100% peanuts peanut butter to my oats and I’m in taste bud heaven. Casein is great before bed because it’s slower digesting and helps prevent the breakdown of lean muscle mass overnight, which is important when you’re dieting! As for the peanut butter, I’m definitely a connoisseur, but on prep I like to keep it simple. This pb is 100% peanuts, with no hydrogenated oils In conclusion, say hello to my favorite meal of the day
