I want to take a moment to acknowledge the accomplishments of my friend @eakinwale. She just competed in her fifth @crossfitgames. Only @beccavoigt has had more appearances. She continued her streak of at least one first place finish in an event (she won Soccer Chipper) in each of her Games appearances. She was also the eldest woman competitor in the field in a sport that rewards youth. I’m proud of what she’s done and what she represents in the sport. I’m thankful she let me have a hand in her athletic success this year. Thanks to @chivers2000 for creating a dope swim program as well. To number SIX EA. I can’t wait to see it happen.

In life, hurdles gonna come. Jump over ‘em. But do it with some style and grace.
More @crossfitgames technique/strategy videos in the tank. This one is about how to jump over stuff. Full video on YouTube after the events.

what a trip.

even though this was my fourth time doing the open, i learned the most this year. in 2013 i was brand new to crossfit, couldn’t do most of the things, and overall had no idea what i was even getting into or even what the open was all about. 2014 was really just beginning of when i began to take competition a little more seriously. and in 2015 perhaps i took it a little too seriously. i got more wrapped up in it all and found myself upset if i didn’t get a certain score or beat a certain person. 2015 wasn’t much fun—partially because i was out of my home gym for 3/5 of them, but mostly because of my perspective.

2016 was a lot different from 2015.

image

i gave 100% effort on all of them and did them all rx. i didn’t give a shit about anyone else’s score and stopped comparing myself to others in a negative way because comparison really is the thief of joy. i proved to myself that i am much fitter than previous years and that is all i really care about. i set little goals for myself on all the workouts and met them all. my chest to bar pull ups improved hugely, my conditioning and pacing skills improved, i did the fastest set of 25 toes to bar i’ve ever done in my life, i got my first bar muscle up and then six more in the workout (and five other reps before/after), i did a lot of pretty heavy deadlifts safely, i got over the mental block and enjoyed doing wall balls, i got through the uncomfortable dark place that is rowing (even though i really, really wanted to stop) and finished the row before the time cap, i PR’d my 14.5 time by about six minutes (give or take, i don’t know my exact 14.5 score) in 16.5. these workouts were not fun, but at the same time…they kinda were. i embraced the suck…i (finally) learned to love it all.

i also had more fun than any other year watching, cheering, and judging other athletes because crossfit brio (my first open season at brio where i was actually home for all five weeks) is pretty awesome and is full of some really talented humans (three top 20 in canada west masters 40-44 ladies, for one). i let the last five weeks really sink in as much as possible because being part of this (really great) community as a whole is pretty fun. i anticipated what the next workout would be (even though i told myself to stop trying to guess), anticipated actually doing it, thinking about what i just did, and reflecting about what i want and need to work on most. i still looked at the leaderboard—but this time with a new perspective and found it interesting and not demoralizing. i realized that although there are a lot of other really fit people out there, my fitness isn’t really that bad. no, i am not elite. i’m not even that good of an rx athlete. i am one of the many who really just do it to be better than yesterday. i’m your average crossfitter and i (finally) learned to appreciate that.

i (finally) learned that if you have the perspective that whatever you do will be better than what you previously could do, you can’t lose. and i (finally) learned that if you have the right attitude and believe you’ll accomplish something, you will.

“Across all divisions, 120,459 athletes in total performed at least one bar muscle-up with 25,306 of these coming from women.

This includes 246 women aged 50-54 completing an average of 7 bar muscle-ups, and 217 of the younger teen girls (14-15) completing an average of 9.

That’s a lot of women with bar muscle-ups, especially when the general public (per The New York Times) thinks women can’t do pull-ups.”

—CrossFit Games

Neat.

Glad to now be one of those 25,306 exceptionally strong women.

I still do not understand whats the big deal about crossfit

SEEING FAITH RXD AT BODYPOWER 2018 WAS AWESOME!

BodyPower is a fitness expo where lots of health/fitness influencers, companies, brands, all come to one location in Birmingham and provide opportunities for people to meet people they follow on social media, there are CrossFit competitions, supplement stands, weightlifting seminars etc. which is great fun.

However, the main reason for me going to BodyPower was to support the brand @faithrxd and so I could see the people involved with it again after last year. It was such a pleasure being able to speak with everyone at the Faith Rx’d stand this year and I just wanted to say thank you for a brilliant day.

I am aiming to compete in CrossFit whilst representing Faith Rx’d in the future because I love their message (see below).

1) Faith
2) Family
3) Fitness

The list above is a list of priorities.

Faith Rxd combine Christianity and fitness together to help spread the message of the Bible and show others how the Bible/Jesus is still so relevant to all of us in this day and age.

If you’d like to find out more about Faith Rxd, go and check out their Instagram Profile - @faithrxd @faithrxduk

Have a great day!

NEW VIDEO WITH AN EPIC PROTEIN RECIPE

Link to the video is in my Instagram Bio!

I posted my weekly YouTube video a couple hours ago where I talk about my approach to training and nutrition going forward after watching/talking to CrossFit athletes this past weekend at the BodyPower Fitness Expo 2018. The expo was epic, I’m going to do a proper social media post on it in the next few days. I also show you a lovely tasting protein recipe which I enjoy eating daily at the moment ever since having it again recently.

ARE YOU GOING TO BE AT BODYPOWER 2018?

I am so thankful for all the people who I have had the pleasure to connect with on social media through YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram, throughout the time I first started posting content around the topic of fitness and weight loss in 2014.

Check out my recent YouTube video where I show you the most emotional set of squats I’ve ever done - there’s a link my most recent YouTube video in my Instagram bio, see what you think, I’d love to get your feedback and ideas of what videos you’d like to see in the future!

Just to reassure you as well, if you’re someone who has recently started weight training, you may find with squats and deadlifts that you feel light-headed after performing the exercise. This is just because you’re having to hold your breath and tighten your core before each repetition, so essentially you’re not breathing for 2-3 seconds whilst generating power to lift the weight properly. Therefore you’re essentially starving your brain of oxygen for a few seconds which is why you may need to take a couple of breaths between each rep in order to regain some oxygen back because you’ll be in an oxygen debt after holding your breath and expending lots of energy with each repetition. Hope that makes sense.

If you’re interested in my online coaching services as I’m an online nutrition coach and online personal trainer, let me know by sending me a DM on Instagram and I can chat with you and let you know more information, cheers!

FAITH OVER FATIGUE

This is something new I’m trying every Monday on Instagram where I post a motivational quote either I have made or that I really like. Do bear in mind that some of the ones I come up with may actually already exist but I just haven’t come across it myself yet haha!

I created this quote myself and the main message behind it is to tell people that you can overcome negative situations through faith. This can be having faith in yourself but I coming this from a Christian faith perspective. Honestly, when I’m training, I like to think of this quote because one of my goals is to compete in CrossFit at the highest level whilst representing @faithrxd to introduce others to the Christian faith by my sporting abilities. I don’t mean this to sound arrogant by the way, I just mean ‘sporting abilities’ as in —> show people the sporting abilities I have, whether they be good or bad.

So, when I am training and it’s becoming really difficult to push a certain weight or complete a specific workout, I just think that my faith in God will always beat any feelings of fatigue, and this keeps me going.

What quotes do you guys like?
