Ppl talking abt how Elden Ring is “Skyrim without flavor” or “bland skyrim” like girl Vanilla Skyrim is bland and flavorless as hell why do you think there’s such a huge modding community ahcjsjcndbdhshd

After playing Elden Ring myself, my guess is because there are very few characters who talk to you about anything in enough detail for you to understand what’s going on.

It’s the whole reason Youtubers like VaatiVidya can exist: somebody has to piece together the lore and story from the trail of breadcrumbs.

Visually,Elden Ring is what I wish Skyrim had been, but in all other respects I know exactly what every critic means when they say things like that.

Me, trying and failing to beat Malenia for two days: FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT UNFAIR BULLSHIT FUCKING FUCKITY FUCKITY FUCK FUCK FUCK…

Me, After Finally Defeating Her: What a glorious contest of wills! What a grand duel! Oh, nothing else that remains in this game could present me with as worthy of an opponent as she!

Malenia taught me that I don’t actually like eldensoulsbornekiro games, only their visual design. So I turned off Easy Anti-Cheat (making the game much more stable by the way) and turned on Cheat Engine to kill her.

Don’t get me wrong, I may have given myself infinite health, stamina, and magic, but I didn’t give myself godmode so I still got combo’d and ragdolled across the area, I just didn’t die from it.

By the way, it’s very frustrating to learn that even if you don’t die instantly, none of the cool moves are usable without getting knocked out of them even in general gameplay.

omercifulheaves:

Me: My God, Elden Ring is an *insanely* long game. I think I’ve put more hours into my first playthrough than I did my first runs of Dark Souls, Bloodborneand Dark Souls 3 *combined* and still not done yet.

Also Me: Where my DLC at FromSoft.

They’re trying to figure out how to make things less comprehensible. What things to exclude from item descriptions, what monologues to mistranslate, that kind of stuff.

“poor little meowmeow” is just “smol bean”/“cinnamon roll” for dreamsmp fans

So now Harry Potter is on its way out in terms of cultural relevance, can we look to Hexside from The Owl House as the go-to school of witchcraft and magic?

No bullshit house-system, all the subjects sound fascinating, and the uniform looks so much cooler!

not that it wasn’t already apparent, but seeing all the people who condemn undocumented immigrants and Black Lives Matter and Indigenous resurgence/activism as “we’re a nation of laws” only to immediately support not only trump’s crimes but also his extremely facist refusal to acknowledge/participate in the impeachment is absolutely telling as to WHO laws are supposed to apply to under a white supremacist settler colonial government

somebody tell me why Descendants 3 has a stronger prison abolitionist narrative than 99% of “#woke”/”political” television programming

When James Baldwin said “Love takes off the masks that we fear we cannot live without and know we cannot live within. I use the word ‘love’ here not merely in the personal sense but as a state of being, or a state of grace” and when Fred Rogers said “Love is at the root of everything, all learning, all relationships; love, or the lack of it” and when Francisco X. Alarcón said “Love, if it isn’t for everyone, it isn’t enough”

why are star wars planets more boring than earth and our solar system like sure we’ve seen desert, snow, diff types of forest, beach, lava, rain, but like…

rainbow mountains (peru)

red soil (canada/PEI)

rings (saturn’s if they were on earth)

bioluminescent waves

northern lights (canada)

salt flats (bolivia, where they filmed crait but did NOTHING COOL WITH IT except red dust?? like??? come ON)

and cool fauna like the touch me not or like, you know, the venus flytrap.. and don’t get me started on BUGS like… we have bugs cooler than sw aliens

BASICALLY like???? come on star wars you had one (1) job where are the cool alien species

I KNOW!! I did a report on filming locations in Star Wars last year and just made a list of places that looked so surreal they could make a convincing other planet. You covered some on my list but if I could just add a couple more:

Tsingy di Bemaraha, Madagascar

Zhangye Danxia, China (similar to the Rainbow Mountains in terms of appearance)

Chocolate Hills, Philippines

Giant’s Causeway, Northern Ireland

So many missed opportunities with cool ass things on Earth, Lucasfilms smh…

Earth is effing amazing!

Quebrada de Humahuaca, Argentina

Lake Retba, Senegal

Tepui, Venezuela

Tianzi Mountains, China

these would make amazing Star Wars planets OR fantasy material:

Tsingy du Bemaraha, Madagascar again (but a different part)

(those are razor-sharp, if you were wondering. very little of this area has been explored because YIKES)

Lake Natron, Tanzania

(looks cool, but is alkaline enough to Kill Your Shit)

Lake Baikal, Russia

(the deepest lake in the world, seriously)

and I’ll wrap it up with Son Doong Cave, Vietnam, the largest cave in the entire world.

it puts anything Dagobah has to offer to absolute shame:

(seriously, the largest chamber is 660 feet high. you could jam a fucking skyscraper in there and still lose it

anyway I really like caves thanks for coming to my ted talk

@therockscientist

Just adding onto this collection—Star Wars aside—because there are some manmade places/landmarks that are pretty extraordinary too.

Field of Jars, Laos (ancient, uncertain origins; heavily damaged by American Forces in the Vietnam War, now partially a hazardous minefield)

image
image

Stone spheres of Costa Rica (ancient, uncertain origins/purpose)

image

Anasazi ruins, USA (ancient, uncertain origins)

Nazca Lines, Lima, Peru (ancient, uncertain origins)

Malakoff Diggins, Nevada City, USA (result of hydraulic gold mining)

Nuestro Pueblo “Watts Towers”, Los Angeles, USA (lone man spent 33yrs building these in his yard)

Aaand a couple natural things that I can never get over:

‘Sailing Stones’ of Death Valley, USA (they move on their own)

Banyan trees, India (one tree takes root repeatedly and looks like many trees)

This post is overall very cool, and does a good job of pointing out how limited the imagination of sci-fi set designers can be BUT the “anasazi ruins” are actually ancestral Puebloan dwellings. “Anasazi” is a Navajo word which means “people who have gone away,” or, according to some translations I’ve heard “ancient enemy.” Either way, the Puebloan peoples have not gone away and do not like this word being used to describe their ancestors. Ancestral Puebloan dwellings can be found throughout the U.S. south-west; that specific photo looks like “the Cliff Palace” in Mesa Verde, Colorado to me which was built and continuously developed/refurbished from 1190-1260 CE. Even if I have misidentified the specific dwelling, due to dendrochronology and the use of wood in Ancestral Puebloan dwellings we have the dates of construction for nearly all of the dwellings. No one would call anything made in Europe during the 12th and 13th centuries of “ancient, uncertain origins.” Don’t say something is unknown just because YOU don’t know about it, ESPECIALLY when you’re advocating for the use of indigenous aesthetics in scifi films.

i feel like scarjo sayin she can play plants & animals in the context of playing women of color and trans men is uh, pretty telling

I think what’s most striking about watching Captain Marvel the second time is that you realize how easy it is to get into the spectacle and root for mass murder so long as you’re told the people being bombed “deserve” it….like sure, maybe its extra easy when its an action hero genre where you expect violence, and where violence is being enacted on aliens by other aliens, but rewatching all the scenes you cheered at and having to acknowledge that those scenes are tragic, are refugees and civilians being bombed is such an important shift in perspective and I think the film does such a good job with that

All literature is read in translation

I’m so sick of acronyms. Everything’s an acronym now, just call it what it is:

ATM - Bank machine
ASMR - Quite noise talking
USA - Bang bang McDonald’s
LOL - Acknowledgment of meme
GIF - Harry Potter picture
DIY - Advanced crafts
ESPN - Mean Girls quote

i guess my issue with the “pick-me girl” hate videos on tiktok/etc is that they really exemplify how misogyny is so baked into our culture that it really hinders the way girls and young women self-actualize, but instead of talking about that we just want to dunk on insecure teen girls for having shitty opinions

our-reb00t-boi:

I don’t know if I’ve ever said it but I really don’t get the sentiment “if the reboot wasn’t a DMC game it would’ve done great” like bruh

Look at it this way: if it WAS its own game, it would still be compared to Devil May Cry and to many other hack and slash games of the time. And I don’t think it would “do great” either. People would look at the character of Don'te and compare him to Suda51 action game heroes and to Bayonetta, to InFamous or to Raiden of Revengeance.

People don’t vibe with his personality already, so how come they would think they’d vibe with him even if it was an original title??

idk who needs to hear this today, but…you don’t have to go to university/college. you don’t have to attend higher education. it’s a privilege to be able to do so, thus not everybody can, but even if you have such a privilege, it’s not necessary. education does not equal knowledge or intellect.

ever since i was young (like eight years old) my family would say that if i went to university, i would have better job prospects, and i always went along with it, and it was not until recently that i realised how distorted our view of higher education has become. i do still want to attend university, but for a completely different reason: the endless pursuit of knowledge. i want to go to university because i am utterly confounded and in complete adoration of literature, thus i would like to attend higher education to better understand such a topic. but this isn’t the case for everybody. higher education can be damning to the mental health, can be overly expensive and thus financially damning, can be too stressful, and is most definitely portrayed as a necessity.

the dark academia community is so, so, so guilty of portraying higher education as something everybody has to do!! this is rooted in people saying that they are better than others who chose not to go to university/college. it’s not a human necessity and if you want to go, that’s great! but if you don’t, that’s great too!

you should attend university/college because you want to, not because you feel like you have to.

since we’re getting a solangelo spinoff I better not start seeing underage smut of will and nico on my timeline !!

Wills the top- no Nico’s the top - how about you stfu and stop sexualising minors

This is for those who are against afab transfems and amab transmascs.

>Can u explain me why ? Why is it ok for u to segregate an identity on the basis of someone’s ASAB ? Isn’t what terfs actually do ? For them “woman” is AFAB-exclusive and yall act the same with transfem/transmasc. U use terf logic, u discriminate someone due to their genitals. ////

Why don’t you let ppl identify with whatever they want regardless of their asab and without telling them they are bad/wrong/not valid ? If an afab individual feel a connection to transfemininity, why they should be forbidden to identify as such ?

For me we should stop to imply that transfem= amab and transmasc= afab and start to recognize that some transfems are afab and some transmascs are amab (and others aren’t even afab or amab)

Sex assignement is an arbitrary act who don’t accure just one time in your life. Socially, people will assign you to a sex/gender category (often based on you appearence but not only). So if an afab is assigned to male by someone but they identify with a fingender/feingender they are in fact transfem/trans girl. Ofc, u don’t necessary need this experience to be a transfem. If u feel connected to the term for me it’s the most important.

I really don’t understand why so many ppl are so hostile towards afab/amab transfems/transmascs and have a very reductive vision of the sex/gender assignement process//

Again if an afab is comfortable with the label transfem, where is the problem if they use it ?They are not hurting anyone. Let them vibing.

Kind of feel like there’s an easy solution for Hannibal which is that he just doesn’t eat people. Like you don’t need to do that king

Right. So.

Hannibal kills people because he feels like he’s doing a service to society. The people he preys on are whom he sees as the lowest of the low, which is an interesting aspect showing that while a deranged maniac he also acknowledges that what he’s doing is generally frowned up, and so he does what he does in a way that he can convince himself (and possibly others) that the people who died didn’t deserve to live in the first place. It’s kind of like the saw guy.

Now there’s not really an “intimacy” feeling when he eats people. While real life cannibals do tend to think that way, hannibal’s reason for consuming his victims is completely different. One of the lines in silence of the lambs where clarice is attempting to find out who Buffalo Bill could be is something along the lines of “some people keep trophies of their kills” and clarice says “you didn’t, you ate yours” and Hannibal just kind of shrugs it off. It’s a habit he’s adopted but he isn’t attached to his victims, nor does he want to be. They’re too low class for him to care about.

The reason Hannibal got into cannibalism is because during ww2 his family escaped to their hunting lodge. Soviet soldiers came and his parents as well as every other adult present died (other than the soldiers), which left him and his sister stranded throughout the cold winter with them. There was little to no food, and they were all starving. The Soviet soldiers saw that his sister was becoming deathly ill, and as a last ditch effort to survive throughout the spring they killed & ate her—and by that I mean they fed Hannibal his dead sister, too.

They are finally all found, Hannibal goes to an orphanage, the soldiers get new identities that don’t tie them to their past and move on with their lives. However, Hannibal is unable to move on, and he starts planning his revenge. Throughout his teen and young adult years he tracks every single soldier down, kills, then devours them—just as they did to his sister and made him do.

Hannibal does not consider eating people intimate. He actually thinks it the most repulsive thing a human can do to another person (going back up to earlier where I said that he might be trying to convince himself it was necessary to do so). It’s not about intimacy, and at first it was about avenging his sister. His entire personality is forged around Misha’s death, which traumatized him, and once he had rounded all of her murderers up and gave them their just deserts (it his mind), he continued to kill the lowest of the low to rid society of those he believes are anywhere from absolutely worthless to simply a nuisance. When he eats people he is twisting the knife, showing them they are nothing more to him than fuel and eventually waste. It is the most dehumanizing thing you can do to someone, and he knows this, which is why he continues to do it—not because of the connection to the victims, but to make a statement that they are worth nothing more to him than the act of unwrapping a granola bar would be to us, the same way the hunger-crazed Soviet soldiers saw Misha.

has anyone considered that maybe Jonathan’s food wasn’t spicy because of the specific type of paprika, or because he was English, maybe it was spicy because the concerned villagers were trying to stuff raw garlic into him any way they could manage

This might be a bit of a hot take, but personally I feel a bit of concern over how the use of the word “simp” has evolved lately

If I’ve understood correctly, it was originally a term that pointed at a set of behaviorsthat could be potentially harmful, but currently I’m seeing it being also used to refer to the experience of having feelings and thoughts of a romantic or sexual nature about someone; still, it seems to retain some of its original tone of derision and, I dunno, the way it’s used seems to kind of blur the line between inner experience and actual behavior and put them on a similar level of judgement: and there’s the possibility that to some this could cause needless embarassment or shame for experiences that can be personal and intimate and that would otherwise be the opposite of harmful.

I’m aware that this won’t perfectly reflect everyone’s thoughts on the matter, so I’m curious: what do you think of this word? What have been your experiences with it?

Pet peeve: when people in the fandom call sihjr horribly written and garbage due to it’s problematic bits and basically tear into it, but continue to read it…like…it’s ok to criticize media while still being a fan but sometimes it’s like y'all are just hate reading it for no reason

Like if y'all hate the series so much, why are you even reading it…it’s ok to admit you enjoy the manga even if it’s problematic
