I’m buying me some mugwort as soon as I get paid lol

Also ensure that you use the appropriate amount as it can make you sick if you use too much! Lastly just make sure you have the Astral projection basics down before you travel to the Astral realm!

Signed,

A traumatized Astral traveler

Mugwort is also related ragweed and has been known to cause allergic reactions in some folk that are allergic to ragweed, apple, celery, and kiwi. So be careful if you have those allergens!

It can also induce miscarriages or cause uterine contractions, so while many may take it for their period, it’s dangerous to ingest during pregnancy.

Yep, it can trigger and also cause disruptions in your period cycle, not just if you’re pregnant. Also can be dangerous for people who menstruate who’re either on blood thinners or who have hemophilia or other blood disorders.

So consult an herbalist and/or your healthcare professional first!

It’s seriously worrying that herbal products formulated to a potentially therapeutic dose are just being sold as ‘health products.’

First let me say I genuinely hope no one was expecting a postapaloosa from me this month, because well, it is not coming. I only managed so-so with the theme and only have pics of finished products, rather than a step by step and no actual full ritual, because I did not finish it yet :(

This month I have decided to perfect the art of making herb bundles for smoke cleansing. The problem I have faced before was never being able to get the bundles tight enough when the herbage is still fresh, causing the bundles to be very loose. On How-To pages etc., they usually tell you to just rewrap them once in a while, but as the herbs dry, they begin to crumble and it is just not right.

So I got an idea. After leaving them hung upside down for a day, to let them wilt a bit, I made the bundles and tightened them all around by using a paper towel and tied them on the outside. I left them to dry like this hanging for about a week, before unbundling them and rewrapping them with the final cord and tightening them some more.

I am very pleased with the results :)

I made four kinds of sticks, but since this months theme is purification, I’d like to talk a little bit more about two of the herbs I have chosen:

Mugwort and St.John’s wort.

I know St.John is not typically considered a cleansing herb, but hear me out.

In a couple of days, I am turning 32 and I thought putting together a purification ritual (which was originally supposed to be a part of this post) before then would be nice.

I’d use mugwort for a general cleansing, both of my person and of my apartment, from all the shit that has piled up in the last year (and on top of the pandemic, there was ALOT). Mugwort is a wonderful herb in my opinion, being not only a great ally in all things divinatory, feminine mystery-wise and so on, but above all a great cleanser of all residual human stuff that one may carry of their shoulders or have lurking around their space.

Saint John’s wort on the other hand, is a very Solar and Martial herb and the second part of my cleansing will go along the route of the Sun casting away shadows, bringing light into a somewhat darkened life, while at the same time fighting some personal stuff away and healing old wounds. On top of that, in the for of tea it’s a great mood stabilizer :)

For that purpose I chose to prep it three ways:

Incense stick (cleansing)

Blood of Saint John Oil (healing)

Dried herbage (harmony, balance)

Basil:

Wealth, exorcisms, abundance, cleansing, love, banishment, prosperity, pleasure, fruitfulness, purifying, romance, accomplishment, and compassion.

Cilantro:

Peace, romance, emotional healing, shadow work, harmony, love, soothing, cleansing, amorousness, physical healing, synchronization, calming, purification.

Dill:

Wealth, desire, success, sensuality, security, romance, serenity, affection, harmony, fortune, lust, prosperity, protection, tranquility, love, and peace.

Fennel:

Protection, healing, purification, shield, homoeopathic, banishing, defense, healing, expelling, fortification, curative, and refinement.

Mallow:

Romance, protection, banishment, amorousness, safety, cleansing, love, defense, exorcisms, compassion, fortification, and warding.

Mint:

Prosperity, joy, fertility, purification, love, success, affluence, happiness, fruitfulness, cleansing, romance, compassion, and achievement.

Herbal Abortions are not as quick and easy as you think they are.

In light of the Roe v. Wade news, I have seen a huge surge of people recommending certain herbs, most commonly mugwort and pennyroyal, to induce miscarriage. Unfortunately, many of these people don’t seem to find it important to note that overconsumption of mugwort can lead to kidney failure, or that too much pennyroyal can lead to liver failure, and both of them can lead to death. It is irresponsible to recommend the use of these herbs without providing any safety information.

If you are considering using an herbal method to abort, that’s your choice. I understand with how everything’s going right now, but please for the love of God do your research beforehand. Don’t just throw some leaves in a cup because someone on TikTok told you to, and PLEASE only do it as a last resort. Herbal abortions may SEEM like a perfect solution, but it has to be done so so carefully. Please do not shut your organs down.

Mugwort tea, a mistake every time I drink it

Mugwort do be nasty

I put an obscene amount of honey in it after the Last Time and ooof it made it WORSE

Ime adding anything to mugwort makes it worse. Except for ginger. That’s pretty okay. I prefer my mugwort as a tincture so I can just chase it with smth else.

Try this: brew mugwort tea, then mix in hot cocoa powder. I prefer my chocolate a little more bitter anyway.

Common Name:Mugwort.

Scientific Name: Artemisia vulgaris.

Where I Saw It: This picture is from the bike trail, but honestly it grows all over the place, including in my backyard.

Can I Eat It? Yes!  The leaves can be used as a seasoning in food or to make tea, and the young shoots can be eaten as a vegetable.

Native Range: Europe, Asia, Northern Africa, Alaska.

How It Behaves in New York: It’s a common wild plant here, and is apparently considered by some to be invasive.

Reasons to Like It: Tea!  Seasoning!  Edible!

Reasons to Dislike It: Possibly invasive, and can be a really persistent weed in a garden even if you set aside possible ecological effects.

Our Mugwort masala incense sticks are earthy and grounding and highly magickal! In the Middle Ages, Mugwort was connected with St. John the Baptist, who was said to have worn a belt of the herb during his time in the wilderness. St. John’s Herb, as the plant became known, had the power to drive out demons, and sprays of the herbs were worn around the head on St. John’s Eve as a protection against possession by evil forces.

In China, bunches of Mugwort were hung in the home during the Dragon Festival to keep away evil spirits. The Ainus of Japan burn bunches to exorcise spirits of disease, who are thought to hate the odor. Planted along roadsides by the Romans, who put sprigs in their shoes to prevent aching feet on long journeys.

Spiritual benefits:

  • Carry to ward against wild beasts, poison and stroke.
  • Prevents elves and other evil things from entering houses.
  • Said to cure madness and aid in astral projection.
  • Mugwort is burned during scrying rituals to aid in clarity.

Top 10 Herbs for the Lazy Witch

Maybe you’re maybe you’re a new witch unsure of what herbs are worth your time as a beginner, maybe money is tight, or maybe you’re just lazy (like us). If we could only choose 10 herbs to use in our craft, these would be our top picks.

1. Basil – its the witch’s herb, need we say more? Not only do its magical uses span from protection to love to wealth to exorcism, but it is also delicious in mundane recipes as well. If you can only have one herb, basil is the way to go.

2. Rosemary – this herb is also blessed with a wide variety of uses. Excellent for purification, lust and love, good health, preventing nightmares, and all kinds of sea witchery. Bonus: its fragrance is to die for.

3. Lavender – so you might not be able to find this at the grocery store, but its magical uses outweigh the small inconvenience of tracking it down. Most often used for healing, love, protection, peace, purification, and sleep, lavender is a go-to for any mental health needs.

4. Chamomile – lavender’s luckier, jovial cousin. Primarily used in love, healing, and stress reducing spells, but can also be used for luck and gambling. It is associated with the sun, and makes a great tea infusion for stress relief.

5. Thyme – the best herb for social situations. It attracts loyalty, affection, and a good reputation, but we most often bathe in an infusion of thyme for constant flow of money. Also good for increasing courage.

6. Cinnamon – while technically a spice, cinnamon has many magical uses and is also delicious in cooking. Ideal for prosperity and success, protection, love, and all spells related to the spiritual self.

7.  Peppermint – a favorite in herbalism for treatment of digestive issues, this herb ideal for cleansing and protecting. Peppermint is also widely available, makes for lovely tea, and is a great addition to any luck spell.

8. Rose – is any love spell complete without rose petals? This flower is the symbol for beauty, marriage, sexuality, divine love, and all kinds of relationships. A larger list of uses for roses can be found here

9. Cayenne Pepper – every witch needs something with a bit of a bite. This spice does wonders as cursing or banishing agent, or even just as an addition to any spell to speed up results.

10. Mugwort – if we recommend any specialty herb, this is the one. Mugwort is used in spells for divination, astral travel, working within the spiritual realm, and receiving prophetic dreams. (Note: this herb should not be ingested by people who are pregnant)
