Clothes are no small matter to fairies, who realize that clothing says a great deal about the wearer and has symbolic meanings. Some fairies prefer to remain naked,in the same way that some modern-day pagans, within closed rituals, prefer to “sky-clad”. They feel this is a sign that we are all naked before the gods, and shows respect for Nature.

Clothes As A Sign Of Power

  • By contrast, other fairy folk are very fussy about clothing, preferring the beautiful and costly. In many cultures, clothes define the status and occupation of the wearer, and so are an outward sign on an inward reality. We are freed from such constraints in the modern world, but fairies are well aware of the symbolic nature of all things. Some fairies, robbed of their clothing, are doomed to remain captive in the mortal world until they recover it. The good Persian fairy, the Peri, is one example, whose clothes signify her magical power.

One story tells of a weary merchant’s son,who rested from his travels by the shores of a lake. Four doves flew down and turned into Peries before his eyes. They then shed their robes and bathed in the waters. The young man hid the clothes and, when they realized what had happened, the Peries were distraught. One of them agreed to marry him in order that the others might escape, where upon he gave three Peries back their clothes, taking the fourth with him as his bride. They lived together for 10 years, after which he went on his travels again, leaving the precious clothes with an old woman. When he was gone, the Peri persuaded the old woman to let her put he clothes on just for a minute- whereupon she immediately vanished from sight.

Many fairies are intentionally ragged in appearance, such as the Brownies. However, if they are given clothes, they are so offended that they often disappear forever. This idea is echoed by J.K. Rowling in the Harry Potter books, in which a house elf is freed by the gift of clothes. To traditional house fairies, clothes are an empty gift conforming to human standards, not to those of Fairyland.

The Significance Of Color

image

Color is also an important consideration, with red and green being favorites. Both of these colors speak of the power of Nature: red being the color of blood (and death, with which some fairies are linked),and green the color of leaves and grass. Irish Leprechuans usually wear green, along with leather aprons, silver buckled shoes, and three-cornered hats,on which they may turn upside down and spin. In fact, in Ireland green is so much the property of the Fair Folk that it may be unlucky for mortals to wear it. Some fairies even have green skin. Nature spirits are the types of fairy most closely linked to green and the world of vegetation.

Red has magical connections, and witches are believed by some to have red hair and to wear red cloaks or caps. Red is linked with death, and in prehistoric times corpses were often smeared with red ochre,to give them renewed vitality. And the sun, when it “dies”, goes down in a blaze of red. Many fairies have red caps, or are entirely red in color. Red caps may also be associated with shamanism and with the fly agarie mushroom, which induces a trance.

Clothes As Symbols

✿ Human clothes can also be used as a weapon to break fairy enchantment. When led astray by fairies while out walking, the best thing to do is to take off your coat and turn it inside out, thus distracting the fairies long enough to escape. This may also be a way of marshalling all the powers of your conscious mind so that you can think logically.

✿ If troublesome fairies are disturbing your nights, place your shoes by the bed with the toes pointing outward and put your socks beneath them. A glove thrown into a fairy ring will stop all the revelry, and one Cornish tale describes how a farmer called Noy threw down his glove at a fairy assembly, whereupon the entire company disappeared, along with the house and orchard. Many customs feature gloves,as a sign of intention or authority- “throwing down the gauntlet”, for instance, was a medieval challenge, accepted if the gauntlet was picked up. The human hand has been the tool that has wrought many changes in the natural world- small wonder that the fairies are alive to the meaning of the glove.

✿ Nothing is just what it seems: All things have a meaning beyond their purpose, and naught more so than clothes. If humans will not realize this, the fairies will teach them.

I’m under the impression that you guys really like the Magic!Jason idea. Here are some of the villains I’d imagine him facing up against as a robin, they’re a bit revised from their obscure original outing. The 10 eyed man is a straight up monster that eats eyes. Nocturna is a Vampire heiress that just wants all the money and riches and respect of being an amazing vampiress, Unbelievably vain and greedy and no fucks given about what you think. Lastly Magpie she’s a Harpie, bound to a cruel master and made to steal magical artifacts for them. Just going full supernatural on a couple of canonically lame villains.

If I were to make a batman show with Jason Todd as robin these guys would be the 1st season villians that Batman works with Zatanna and Talia to sort out., While Jason is still a very young robin. As he gets older the crimes get nastier where the demons get terrifying and criminals get really cruel.

Please note - though I myself am not a spirit worker, I’ve done enough research and seen enough of other people’s personal stories to say this: spirit work is not always light and fluffy and happy (obviously it can be, but not all the time). Spirits are not all willing to work with you peacefully - some are even downright rude or aggressive. It can be dangerous, and there are risks of getting involved with other entities not of this world. Make sure you know what you are getting into completely and are well prepared before engaging. Read and practice at your own discretion.

“My friend Taylor was a beautiful, fun, down to earth girl. Sweet as can be and always willing to help a friend in need. She had been playing ouija board, non stop for a few months straight. Sometimes it consumed her entirely. A few girlfriends and I went to her house to hang out & have a few drinks. Taylor suggested that we play ouija board, and we all agreed. Taylor turned off all the lights and lit candles. She had been drinking heavily so at this point she was really drunk, and slurring her words a bit. We all got ready & put our fingers on the patchulet, Taylor stops us before we start and looks each one of us in our eye.. She breaks the silence by saying “before we start, you have to say you don’t believe in God” .. We were all very confused.. We looked at each other not knowing what to do or say. She said it again, but this time with a bit more aggression. I remember the room becoming heavy… I felt something in the room but kept quiet. We finally started the game, active almost immediately. Taylor was obsessed, it was like she was in some kind of trance. The rest of us were creeped out, and one girl walked away saying she was done. We made contact with an angry spirit, who, when asked, said he wanted Taylor… Whatever that meant. It answered questions to situations that had happened to each of us. Stuff that only we would know the answer to. Taylor seemed out of it, and we asked her if she was okay, she didn’t respond to us. She just sat there staring off in front of her, and her muscles started to spasm a little bit. The air in the room felt thick & heavy.. I felt an energy in a dark corner behind me and felt a tug at my shirt. My 2 other friends and I got scared and decided we were also done playing the game. Taylor suddenly snapped out of her trance.. Eyes full of anger.. She slammed her hand on the table and said “we are not done here… Don’t you fucking walk away from this table” it didn’t seem like Taylor at all! It was like something had taken over her. We were all pretty spooked so we grabbed our things and left. Taylor blew out the candles and stood in the doorway, staring at us in the dark until we drove off. That was one of the creepiest ouija experiences I’ve ever had. A couple weeks later, Taylor cut off all her hair, jumped on a freight train and literally became a hobo. She has never been the same since that night, and she hardly comes around anymore..
She has completely lost it, I’m not sure whether or not the board is to blame.

*I tried to make this story very short and to the point so there were some details left out*”

A Spiritual Fall

Surprisingly enough, spending two months talking about chaos magic was pretty relaxed. (Unless you count how many flame emojis Carl-bot used in response to the word “chaos.”) Now, we’re moving toward fall and, of course, spooky season, so why not spend the next two months learning about spirits? Liber Coven’s September/October book is The Tradition of Household Spirits: Ancestral Lore and Practices by Claude Lecouteux.

“Why do we hang horseshoes for good luck or place wreaths on our doors? Why does the groom carry his new bride over the threshold? These customs represent the last vestiges from a long, rich history of honoring the spirits of our homes. They show that a house is more than a building: it is a living being with a body and soul.”

We’re going to have a super time with superstitions, spiritual traditions, and the things that make our houses just a little more alive (or dead?). Join us for the spooky, the spiritual, and the sacred.
