This #yogapose requires really deep flexion of the hips & knees. Tip: place a block or roll up your mat or blanket to place under your heels if your heels lift off the ground. Be very #mindful of twinges in knees or ankles when in this pose.

I think of Padmasana as a posture to sit in when your hips are eventually open.
Your shin bones in this posture are more likely to stress your knees than your hips if your hips are restricted.
Lotus pose helps redirect apana (downward energy) through the lower half of your body, moving it back toward the center of your pelvis and up your spine; it has a centering effect on consciousness.

This asana is named after the yogi Matsyendranath. The name is taken from the Sanskrit words ‘ardha’, which means half, ‘matsya’, which means fish, ‘Indra’, which stands for a king or ruler, and asana, which means posture.
This asana is also called Vakrasana. ‘Vakra’ means twisted in Sanskrit. Some other names for this asana include the Half Lord of the Fishes Pose and the Half Spinal Twist.
This is not the full variation but a journey towards it.

@dsharrington7 and I both agree, we’re pretty sad to leave Peru tonight. It’s been one amazing, life changing adventure and I can’t even believe it’s over. Seems like just yesterday I was so nervous about what this whole experience; what it was going to be like, not having one single clue about the culture, the people, or the places we’d be staying in. Now here we are, packing our bags and doing last minute things before we leave. I am forever grateful for Peru. For the lessons I have learned here that mostly involved self reflections toward my own life. I am forever changed. Thank you, Peru. Thank you, Pacha Mama. Thank you to all the friends we met along the path, you guys are part of our spiritual family and we couldn’t be more grateful for you.

Lima is such a diverse country! The culture here is incredible. If you’ve never been out of the country, go. Seriously. Go. Traveling is one of the best teachers because you’re learning from experience; you’re opening your eyes and your mind. You deal with yourself and reflect on how much you have that you really don’t need. You think about the things that are really just distractions in your life or serving yourself & not others. Through experience, you are doing yourself a favor by becoming your own teacher, and that can only happen through experience. You can’t gain it from looking at the computer or even reading a book. You must go & do it.
