Just your daily reminders:

  • Racists are a problem
  • White people are not
  • Homophobes are a problem
  • Straight people are not
  • Transphobes are a problem
  • Cis people are not
  • Sexists are a problem
  • Men are not

And most importantly,

  • Hating an innocent person solely because of their race, sexuality, or gender makes you a fucking asshole

IMPORTANT

In addition, it also makes you racist, homophobic, and sexist. :D

@Everybody Who Thinks It’s Okay To say stuff like

“I hate white people”

“I have straight people”

“I hate cis people”

And, also…

“I hate men”

Acceptance is a two way street, assholes.

soloveitchik:

No but the level of hatred I see for Amber Heard is terrifying. Johnny Depp is a rich white man with a history of preying on minors as an adult. He’s not an underdog, he’s not marginalized in any way, shape, or form. For what reason his fans seem to think he is, I don’t know. You are protecting the person with power. Johnny Depp was known to be homo/biphobic to Amber Heard, an openly bisexual woman. Bi women face a significant rate of intimate partner violence, particularly in relationships with straight men, who weaponize their biphobic misogyny to be abusive. When you protect Johnny Depp you are protecting biphobic violence when you defend Johnny Depp you are protecting homophobically-motivated intimate partner violence. Please get a reality check.

this stuff is harrasment/ bullying, if you do this you are breaking the law in quiet a few countries and breaking tumblr rules of service, not only is it uncalled for and disgusting you are commiting a crime/breaking terms and conditions

if you see ANYONE (gay, straight, trans cis, black, white doesn’t matter) telling ANYONE to go die report it Immediately because it is crossing a line

^^^^^^^

This shit is absolutely disgusting. What sorry excuses of human beings willingly go out of their way to harass people because of their sexuality…….oh wait

And it’s still not over either. Check out some of this new and truly disgusting aphobic bullshit:

Apparently, being against telling ANYONE to go die or kill themselves is being pro-terf… (ughhhhh!!! i’m also against the death penalty, does that make me a super terf then?!?! like honestly, go read a book)

Oh and this:

So, hearing about the corrective rape experiences of aces is “annoying” bc “aces aren’t lgbt” according to the above aphobe, and so we all just need to shut up about it. JOY

Maybe the above is not a death threat or anything like that, but dehumanization like this is the exact type of shit that rationalizes and reinforces all this aphobic violence.

And of course, here’s more aphobic hell (including racism & more death/suicide baiting):

What “exactly” is it that we have supposedly collectively done to deserve this kind of seething, violent hate?!?!?!???? Read those tags on the last one, it’s the things of nightmares!!

But yeah, no, of course,

I mean, it’s not as if wishing to deny us aspecs our right to life (often in very violent ways) just because we’re aspec isn’t invalidating in any way…. /s

Aaaaand here’s some new stuff:

damn wtf did aces do to these people?! why so much hate towars em

Existing against their will, I suppose.

No one knew Chappelle would show up

Trans and gay people in the crowd were attacked by the comedian on stage without warning

Blowjobs used to be illegal lmao

image

States in dark red still have laws on the books that make “sodomy” (oral and anal sex*) illegal; states in red only have laws against same-sex sodomy. These laws are unenforceable due to Lawrence v. Texas(2003), but would go into effect if the ruling were to be overturned. And yes, you read that correctly, 2003!

* Laws in Michigan and South Carolina ban only anal sex, not oral.

It’s not even just that blowjobs were illegal: a lot of sex negative radfem discourse is predicated on the idea that things like blowjobs (or anal sex, or penetrative sex at all, the goalposts keep moving) are inherently degrading and violent. When they say “foul, dangerous shit,” they don’t mean something like scat play, they mean “literally any sex.”

Like, just to illustrate my point, here are some screengrabs from the notes of that post about the guy who went to the hospital because he accidentally ruptured something during a blowjob.

vandopo says: porn has really rotted ppls brains to the point that a guy can rupture his throat during a bj and neither he nor a 100.000 tumblr users see anything wrong with it. it's tagged: #do you really think a sex act that ruptures someones throat was pleasurable up until that moment
bitter radfem harpy says: It’s not homophobic to say “rupturing your partner’s airway and nearly killing him is fucking repulsive and damaging.” Literally all of you Males are sexually violent. You need to “pound” and “nail” and “plow” and “destroy” and “wreck” even while you’re performing an intimate act with someone that you “love” (as much as men are capable of love). You make jokes about your partners limping from how hard you fuck them. You’re aroused by pornographic images of your preferred sex in visible pain. Male sexuality is fucking repulsive and damaging.
not cis just woman says: this and the post the other day about how gay male bottoms have their lower intestines injured during anal sex and have to spend hours noisily wrecking the toilet after anal intercourse really just highlight the fact that male sexuality is fucking repulsive and damaging. sending your partner to the ER is not a healthy sex act.

To be clear: at no point was it either said or implied in the original post that the guy was having rough sex, that he was kinky, or literally ANYTHING ELSE other than that he was giving a blowjob. And here come the radfems saying that sex with any man is inherently violent and dangerous. And when someone calls them out on their homophobia, this is their response:

too angry to stop says: @ gay means homosexual explain to me why women caring about a man ending up in the hospital because of a sex act is homophobic? gay means homosexual says: @ too angry to stop they’re not “caring” about him, they’re using this as an opportunity to broadcast how repulsive they find gay sexuality. It’s incredibly transparent. The implication that this kind of thing is anything but an extremely rare anomaly is homophobic. We’re not out here rupturing each other’s throats all the damn time for gods sake. The fact that radfems feel the need to comment on gay men’s sex lives and call them repulsive and harmful (just like homophobic conservatives, what do you know) is really damn telling. Mind your own fucking business too angry to stop says: sweetie, newsflash but this is just as much my business as it is yours lmfao…but the original comment literally mentions male sexuality which u know is something radfems talk about regardless of the man’s sexual orientation…. like excuse me that males are fond of expressing their sexuality in violent ways as if u necessarily have to rupture anything for it to be violent…. -eye roll-

notice how it goes from “how can you say that our concern for this guy in the hospital is homophobic” to “you don’t need to go to the hospital for it to be violent and yes, actually, we ARE saying that any sex with men, including gay men having consensual sex with each other, is inherently violent.”

It’s not just whatever you’re picturing when you think of extremely kinky sex that they consider “foul and dangerous” - they’re defining that to include any sex acts they personally don’t like.

And also? This is why queer people and kinky people have a lot of overlap when it comes to their rights. The laws that criminalize “indecency” and other “damaging” sexual behavior always impact queer people the most, whether that’s a side effect or by design.

I have a post somewhere on my blog talking about a similar radfem post that’s like “bdsm is normalizing extreme violence during sex!” giving a similar story of sex related injury as evidence, where I pointed out that hundreds of people every year are seriously injured or killed slipping and falling in the shower…

ergo, it’s a near certainty that shower sex injures many more people than consensual sexual practices radfems get pearl clutchy about.

The takeaway is that accidental injury during…virtually all physical activities…is really, really common, and it’s super intellectually dishonest to attribute instances of sex-related injuries to Male Violence when literally anything that includes moving your body near another person’s body sends hundreds of people to the ER every year.

14 gd chapters in and there’s already lesbophobia. I knew that well-passed bechdel test was too good to be true.

Some people seem to be under the impression that homophobes would rather gay people transition or that homophobes are trans-friendly, and having met and interacted with homophobes: this is false. Homophobia and transphobia are hand-in-hand in these peoples’ minds. Homophobic parents don’t want trans kids, they would rather have NO child than one who’s gay/trans. A bigoted parent would rather have a dead kid than one who loves the same gender or one who discovers their gender.

To a bigot, trans and gay people are the same type of “degenerate,” and thus, will be much more likely to hate both.

Don’t come at me about the Bible and homosexuality if you’re using it to justify your homophobia. I will demolishyou.

Also, for some cultures including early Christianity, sodomite could very well have ment someone gravely inhospitable, as the sin of Sodom was inhospitality and not anal sex.

I wanted to talk about that too but I was running out of tweets I could put on a singular thread thank you so much for this addition!

@louithescribe

I’m reblogging this partially because it’s frickin awesome, and partially for future reference, cus yeah the evangelical community is really scary to be in as part of the LGBTQA community

People keep asking for the links on the thread, so, here’s a link to the thread.

Whoa this is one of the BEST things I’ve ever seen!! And I learned a lot from it which I can tell my LGBTQ+ friends so that they can also destroy someone with this knowledge! Thank you so much for making a stand!

This was some hella good stuff here. I knew there was corruption with Bible verses and such but wow this was supremely informative!

the website Gay Christian 101 also has some fantastic in-depth discussion of these topics

Ten years ago, a religious man named Yishai Shlisel stabbed three people at the Jerusalem Pride Parade and was sentenced to prison.

A month ago, he was released.

Today was the Jerusalem Pride Parade. And there he was, waiting with his knife.

I heard screams behind me and turned to see what the matter was. The crowd was splitting, and police was holding a man to the ground. I saw as they took him away, as ambulances sped off with the victims. (How many? 1? 2? 3? 4? The numbers kept going up.)

Turns out it was him. He stabbed six people this time.

I am repulsed.
I am ashamed to be of a religion that shares its name with his.
I am disappointed with the futility of law enforcement and the fact that no one thought to watch over him tonight.
I am sad.

Homophobia is not over. This is why we need Pride.

EDIT: The teen girl who was the most severely injured is no longer in mortal danger. Thank God.

THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT VIDEO PLEASE REBLOG

Shoutout to the problematic little elfs who need to get their shit together

Hey

Get your shit together

um lmao austin terry of daniel skam austin fame just decided to come out as a homophobe who thinks homosexuality as a sin and that gay people need to find god & compared same sex attraction to murderous urges lol.

My most heartbreaking experience was at school, there was a lesbian couple outside and everyone was staring at them with disgust and I awed when one of them gave the other her jacket and everyone was like ??? my now-ex-best friend said that that wasn’t normal and I just felt so crushed and I walked away and she came after me and said I’m not saying you’re corrupted because you support them, I’m saying people like them are and I just felt so dead bc I am one of them, my world crashed.

Also a guy in my class said he saw somewhere on the internet that men are gay because they have extra female hormones I was laughing my ass off I couldn’t stop myself from laughing but he was dead serious :’) [[name - sara, she/her, asexual.

yall wanna see the worst take ive ever seen on why leather bars and hankie groups dont belong at pride

someone honest to got thought this up, wrote it, and hit post

btw that comment was specifically abt leather bars/leather daddies being unwelcome and like. yall. the first (estimated) leather bar in the usa was in new york in like 1958 and then in san fran in the tenderloid in 1960. these were before the stonewall riots. these men were alive through the entire AIDs crisis and ya called them the reason people are homophobic. im going to loose my mind.

like this is homophobic. this is activelyhomophobic. you are telling a group of gay men who helped create this community that they are so degenerate that their mere presence at pride has caused a spike in bigotry against this community over the past few years. like imagine typing that out and not realizing how wildly homophobic that is

Levy: Humans are not the only animals that engage in homosexuality, but are the only animals that engage in homophobia.

Gajeel: Wrong, I limped my wrist at Lily and he attacked me.

Anonymous asked: I read your post on the problematic elements of the first season of AHS, and while I agree with a lot of what you said, there’s been something I’ve been wondering about. (My apologies if you’ve gotten a question like this before.) Zacharty Quinto is a gay man portraying a gay man on the show, so don’t you think if he had a problem with the stereotypes he would’ve said something or maybe even backed out of the project? It reminds of when Jordan Gavaris (of Orphan Black) said that straight people-

-would tell him that his portrayal of Felix was very stereotypical and that if they were gay, they would’ve been offended by it. But he then said that response he’d gotten from the gay community had been very positive. I don’t really know where I’m going with this but do you sort of understand what I’m saying? We don’t want all minority characters in media to be represented in stereotypical ways, but the reason we have these stereotypes is because some of them hold true for some people, right?

And it seems like (at least some) people in the gay community are ok with it? Or at least don’t find it to be terribly offensive? I’m not trying to excuse it or anything, these were just some thoughts I had and I wanted to know what you thought of them. Sorry this message was so long and it probably doesn’t make much sense. I really love your blog and appreciate all the effort you put into it. Thank you :)

Hi! Thanks for your question and for reading my blog. It’s answered below the cut!

So I completely understand what you’re asking, but first I need to do a quick intervention on the “the reason stereotypes exist is because they’re true for some people” line of reasoning, which is super problematic. Stereotypes aren’t born from an averaging of the common traits of a group of people, they’re made by people in positions of power who want you to think that all people in a marginalized community behave a certain way in order to most easily identify, group, and oppress them. So say like the stereotype of the melodramatic, feminized gay man - that wasn’t created because the majority of men who identify as gay behave as such, it was created by heterosexual men who want to be able to say “this is what a gay man is like - I have no obligation to get to know him beyond that, to recognize him as a person, or to understand that he is a human being just like I am”. Basically, stereotypes are a way to deny humanity to marginalized people by presuming that you know what they are and how they will behave based on narratives they do not write themselves.

So, all that said - I can’t really speak to Felix’s character as I haven’t yet seen Orphan Black, but in terms of Zachary Quinto’s character on AHS, I understand what you mean. However, it’s  important to remember a couple of things - first, actors do not have ultimate power over what is written for their characters. Quinto could have signed on without really knowing what Murphy (who is also gay) would write for that character. Second, actors are people too and people need jobs. While I don’t think Quinto suffers from any dearth of roles, many actors from other marginalized communities, such as Black actors and especially Black women, are probably getting far fewer opportunities because there are fewer parts written for or offered to Black actors. So if we had, lets say, a Black women playing a part that was very poorly written and drew heavily on stereotypes of Black womanhood, it’s pretty unfair to hold her accountable and say “oh well if this was going to be offensive to your community you should have quit”. They may not have the luxury to quit, they may not want to for fear of not getting other jobs, or they may not be offended by the part at all - no one individual can be the spokesperson for their entire community. People of the same group are offended by different things. Quinto could have absolutely zero problem with the role, or he could have hated it but done it anyway. There’s no way of knowing.

The same goes for the fans; some gay fans may have adored Felix’s character, while others found him offensive. Some people may appreciate having gay representation in their media but at the same time wish it was better written - there’s plenty of room for nuance here, and representation is a complicated issue. I would say the best solution to this is to stop writing lazy characters based on stereotypes and have equal representation for marginalized communities on television.

I hope this answers your question! Thanks so much for reading the blog.
