#poc representation
Representation matters: all 54 characters together! Can you name them all? • by @msartsyace
I’ve posted both of these individually but I took a bit of time to digitally merge them together into one big comp! This is hands down my favorite art piece I’ve ever done.
Interesting fact: 4 of these characters were played by Samuel L Jackson and 3 of them were voiced by Phil Lamarr, something I only realized after I completed these drawings.
Reblogging this because it’s still my favorite drawing I’ve done yet
Thanks everyone for such kind and supportive messages. I am still active on my Instagram page https://www.instagram.com/darkindianbeauty/

✨
So much beauty and grace in all different shades, shapes, sizes and style in one video. I love seeing my people flourishing and just being simply magical all the time ✨. I want to see this all the time with my people and everyone else of color. Embrace your magic.
Important Things To Remember:
- Do not stay where you are not welcomed.
- Don’t drain yourself to appease others.
- Taking care of yourself is NOT SELFISH.
- Don’t let them make you feel bad about something you are happy/excited about.
- Stop doubting yourself. People notice when you do and some will feed off of your insecurities and gamble with them. DO NOT give them that power. Even if you have to fake it, walk with confidence and make your words firm (even if you might be wrong. If you say it with strength, some will start to believe you too). Eye contact is hard for a lot of people but keeping a decent amount of eye contact can intimidate some people very easily. Use that to your advantage (I do it a lot). Fake it till you make it.
- It’sYOUR BODY do whatever the fuck you want with it. No matter your gender or sexuality. It’s not about them, it’s about you.
- Do not let them silence you. If you have to scream at the top of your lungs to be heard when you are forced to be silent then do it!
- Breathe. Yes, you read that right. Remember to breathe. In through your nose and out through your mouth. It’s okay.
- Love yourself first before loving someone else.
- Don’t try to find happiness in other people. You’ll only hurt yourself in the end. You have every right to be happy. Don’t ruin that chance by depending on others for your happiness. They’re not responsible for that. Hurts to hear for some people but I promise, it’s the truth.
- NO ONE IS WORTH THE TEARS OR PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND SPIRITUAL PAIN. GET RID OF THE BAD ENERGY IMMEDIATELY EVEN IF ITS HARD, IT WILL BE WELL WORTH IT IN THE END!!!
- Protect you inner peace. Misery loves company. Don’t accept that invitation. Do not give them that satisfaction of seeing you crack under pressure. You’re better than that.
P. S.
— love you guys and thank you so much for all the likes and reblogs on my pinned post. I’m glad I could have so many of you relate to it and share it with others. Take care of yourselves and stay hydrated! Get plenty of rest or at least TRY to. ❤️
Boob love

Genuine question from a POC (whose race isn’t represented in the Owl House)
I know a lot of people complain about the presence of white characters in the Owl House. They wish Amity was a POC, etc. This is valid, since we have yet to see an interracial couple in the show in which both characters are POC.
I also encourage people who draw those white characters as different races to keep doing so. (Some of that art is so beautiful btw)
But I’ve thought about it a lot and would those white characters have worked as POC in the show?
I mean there are 3 white families in the Owl House: the Blights, the Clawthornes, and the Wittebanes
Now obviously the Wittebanes have to be white because 1600s British family, Connecticut witch trials, etc.
But I think about racial stereotypes in media, and maybe it’s a good thing that the Blights and Clawthornes were not POC?
The Blights:
- Amity’s relationship with her parents is extremely toxic
- Her mom is abusive and her dad was negligent.
- She’s pressured to get good grades and uphold the family name
- She was a bully for half of the first season.
As for the Clawthornes:
- Eda is a criminal, and not just in a rebel way. She also commits petty theft and scams.
- Gwen’s entire character is a dig at anti-vaxxers
- Lilith is always putting pressure on herself and looking for her mother’s approval
I don’t know, a lot of these sound like racial stereotypes that I have seen criticized a lot in other media.
(Also on a less serious note, if Eda wasn’t white, we wouldn’t have Wendie Malick voicing her and I honestly think she’s perfect as Eda. That voice is iconic.)
Anyway, I guess my question is if any of these characters would have been good POC representation.
javert is such a weird character to think about because on one hand, it’s really plausible read him as a moc since Victor tells us his mother was a fortune teller (w no crime listed, the same as his father) and that’s a perception commonly attributed to, if indeed racist, to Romani esp within literature of this time period.
And some translations of the novel also end up utilising the g*psy slur in place of that title, but then there’s a whole discussion to be had about whether that’s accurate as to probable authorial intent for the time period.
But then ON TOP OF THAT, if you want to read him as a moc, that reframes the constant animalistic imagery (as well as the subservience to authority) in a problematic light because poc, and in particular men, being referred to as beasts isn’t you know. Great!
But then you have this reading also giving additional depth to Javert protecting a system that essentially views him as worthless, beyond the background of being born to parents who were deemed criminals. Why he’s held to such aggressive standards amongst his collegues are partially why he holds himself to such. Internalised racism is genuinely such an interesting angle to explore with his character!
Well said!!! I’m also weak for Romani Javert, and although the racist implications ARE problematic they add a whole new dimension to his character. Furthermore, Roma people are victims of hate crimes and police brutality even today (especially in Europe) so a lot of people could benefit from learning a little more about the culture. Two of the Les Misérables spin off novels I’ve read characterize Javert as Romani, Barricades by C. A. Shilton and The Pont-au-change series by Arlene C. Harris. The second one in particular has him raised with the customs and language, which I find especially interesting!
Another note: many people write off the possibility of Javert being Roma by citing the term ‘gypsy-race’ as a mistranslation of race bohème. Despite initially referring soley to France’s Romani population, from the mid-to-late 19th century onwardsBohémiencame to describe anyone living a free, unconventional lifestyle. Hugo’s definition probably falls in line with the former, considering that in Hugo’s opera La Esméralda, composed around the same time that he started writing Les Mis, the titular Roma refers to herself as L'humble fille bohème (The humble bohemian girl).
Hey, guys! I wanted to make a post about an amazing independent game that doesn’t seem to be getting a lot of buzz on tumblr. It features two parallel universes - Stark, a cyberpunk future Earth, and Arcadia, its magical fantasy counterpart. (Which are both gorgeous settings!)
You also get to play as a female protagonist who is a WOC as well! (She is half-Argentinian and half-Chinese.) Zoë Castillo is in her 20s and still feels a little bit lost in what she wishes to do with her life. (It is not canonically proven?, but many fans believe she suffered from depression in the prequel to this game.) She’s an amazing character who I’ve come to love completely and can really relate to.
The second playable character is also a POC and canonically gay!Kian Alvane is a warrior and assassin who has a deep, complex backstory and is working to redeem himself after fighting for his people and losing faith in them. He squashes every stereotype, and his journey involves a lot of other interesting relationships and characters as well.
Dreamfall Chapters is also a game heavily dependent and impacted by your choices and interactions with others, something other ‘choose your own story’ games have suffered from in the past. It always makes you feel like your decisions actually matter, and the emotional toll they take is amazing as well.
There are magicals and monsters, political schemes and racial themes. It’s a very intelligent game with many twists and turns and complex storylines. It is the third in a series of games, but I didn’t have much trouble jumping into it without confusion.
The thing is, it’s super important to actually buy this game and support it - to make fanfic and fanart and actively show your interest. Independent games rely so much on fans because they don’t have the budget to market and continue on if they don’t have help.
And it starts here with representation. If mainstream games see that we are super excited about women protagonists, POC protagonists, and openly queer protagonists, they will start to hop on the bandwagon as well. So please, I implore you to check out Dreamfall Chapters and start spreading the news about it. It deserves to go far and do well.
for all the posts i make about The Straights™ please remember that on-screen romances for people of color, particularly for women, are severely lacking and underrepresented. people of color deserve to have just as many epic love stories told, deserve to have stories that confirm how worthy they are of being admired and loved and swept away too, whether it’s between two straight ppl or not

Pairing: Nathan Drake/black!Reader

Nate was a cocky little shit. And who could blame him? He stole almost as often as he could breathe, and got away with it more times than he could count. But not this time. No. This time he made the mistake of stealing from you. And you were coming in hot. If he knew how much trouble it’d be stealing your necklace, he would’ve thought twice about it.
“How is she so fast?” Nate pants as you chase him down a narrow street before turning a corner.
He curses under his breath as he looks over his shoulder to see that you were right behind him, staring daggers at him. The second Nate looks ahead he was suddenly on the ground after an object hits him in the back of the head.
“Ow!” Nate clutches his head as he lies on the ground. He looks up to see you hopping over to him with one shoe on. “Did you seriously just throw your shoe at me?”
“Bitch, you stole from me! You’ve got no room to judge.” You approach him and sat on his stomach to keep him pinned to the ground.
“You steal from me again and I promise you that I will step on you like the bottom you are.” You threaten, grabbing a handful of his shirt to yank him forward.
“Don’t threaten me with a good time.” Nate chuckles weakly, holding up your necklace.
“Ugh. Fucking masochist…” You snatch your necklace back from his hand.
You stood up to your feet to slip your other shoe back on before you turn around and walk off, putting your necklace back on.
Had you met under different circumstances, the idea of being underneath a beautiful woman like you who could also take him down didn’t sound so bad to him.
