Basics: if your into goblincore and like collecting random things, but are also a witch. This is something that you will love. Charm casting! Charm casting is the act of tossing random charms/objects into a dish or tray of some sort. Each object has it’s own meaning that you give it. You can have a HUGE collection of random things to use for charm casting. This is a fortune telling way and works very well if your using tarot cards with it. However you don’t have to use tarot cards with it if you don’t want to.

Collecting:When it comes to collecting charms, you have a huge variety. Some people will buy actual charms you use to make jewelry with and keep it simple. Some will go out and about and collect random nick nacks they find in the street. It’s up to you. However upon doing so, make sure you keep in mind… What meaning does this have?

I have teeth, a piece of corn and other things in my supply. I also have a lot of rings. However each ring has a different meaning. One that has an eye means to me that someone or something is watching you or keeping an eye on you

How to cast: Just like any other divination practice, you must ask a question. However, it’s best to place the charms into a bowl so you can easily swish your hand around and feel for the charms. Upon doing so, you then grab a hand full and throw it into a tray (or whatever your using). You’ll notice that they will scatter out, and some will stay in the middle. Many read it differently, some will read the middle and slowly work to the outside of where the charms are. And some will just focus on the middle.

Sometimes when you do cast, some little odds and ends that are unnessessary will make it’s way through the reading. If it doesn’t fit in with the rest of the reading then it’s not needed. You do not need to add it to the reading.

(photo at bottom. click for clearer image)

left card - death

  • you may need a complete reset - a brand new start. you’re job will be a new beginning for you, and you may be moving on from past jobs or careers. you will likely be focusing on something you have never done for work before. this is a reminder to embrace change instead of resisting it, because sometimes have to doors close in order to open another one.

middle card - justice

  • your perfect job will bring you a lot of balance. maybe you have been treated unequally at work in the past. in the future things will feel fair. this card represents good karma and finally getting what you deserve. for some of you, it can even indicate your ideal career could relate to law or justice.

right card - six of swords

  • whatever your perfect job is, you will find it by leaving places and people of chaos and negativity, and moving towards what brings you peace, harmony and positivity. you may have to create a shift in your life and physically move to a better position. you’re being invited to let go of what is holding you back, so you can grow and continue on the right path for you.

~LEFT CARD~

king of wands

  • have courage and optimism. maybe in the past you have had a very black and white, all or nothing attitude. this perspective could have made you hold back out of fear or harsh judgement. however going with the flow and understanding that things are often somewhere in the middle of the extremes we can think of, will definitely help you. be friendly and honest to others even if they don’t show the same thing back, and be energetic, determined and brave enough to go after something when you want it.

~MIDDLE CARD~

four of wands

  • spend more time around friends and family, familiar people and places that you are comfortable. you may have rejected or not trusted help and support shown to you by others in the past. maybe you have achieved a goal but not allowed it to be appreciated and celebrated by people who care about you. surround yourself with fun, supportive energy and allow yourself to trust and accept help from those who prove to you they have earned it.

~RIGHT CARD~

eight of swords

  • this card suggests that it could be your mindset that is preventing you from succeeding or moving forward. maybe you have self-doubt and a lack of confidence within yourself and abilities, and these thoughts could be contributing to any confusing, stressful, negative situations. you’re not powerless, and if you trust yourself and listen to your inner voice, things may become clearer. be open to finding answers, because you can find your way out of this predicament. there just may be a new perspective to see things from.

Troubleshooting Readings for Others

Troubleshooting Readings for Others

When conducting divination for others, one might occasionally run into issues that may affect the accuracy, or the ability to do the reading effectively. Here is a small list of problems that could affect readings, and potential solutions where applicable.

Spirits Blocking the Readings

There are three primary reasons for this: malicious spirits, overly-protective spirits, or messages only…

“Stop cringing — at your future, at your failure, at yourself in the mirror — and stand up and look directly at who you are. Not who you should’ve been, but who you are now. Let that person in. Let her be as mediocre and wrong and shameful and sad and miserable and brilliant and hilarious as she wants to be, because she knows exactly what you need to feel good. She has plans for you. She wants to show you what comes next. She wants to take you into the future you’re dreading and say, “See? You never would’ve imagined this.”

Basically a lot of it is pseudoscience that was never rigorously tested in controlled situations to see if it actually worked.

This is because it was not developed by scientists, but by police, and mainly with an interest in putting people in prison rather than uncovering the truth.

Here area few morearticles on how unreliablemodern forensics are.

Unfortunately due to TV shows that stress forensic investigation, juries are demanding this kind of evidence at trial, and have little idea of how untested and unreliable it really is.

HEY REMEMBER WHEN I WROTE ABOUT THIS TWO YEARS AGO? SPECIFICALLY THE PART ABOUT FBI REVIEWING ITS FORENSICS HAIR ANALYSIS CASES? WELL THE RESULTS ARE IN AND WHOOPS: EVEN THE FBI ADMITS THAT IT’S BOGUS NOW

In case you are stopped by the paywall here’s a Slate article on the same thing and here’s another one

Hair analysis alone has been used in thousands of trials. The FBI is reviewing 2500 cases out of “21000 federal and state requests to the FBI’s hair-comparison unit between 1972 and 1999″. Even if this review exonerates some of those convictions, that doesn’t even begin to cover the hundreds of state and local “experts” trained by the FBI in this bogus “hair analysis” technique to do things like this:

Santae Tribble served 28 years for a murder based on FBI testimony about a single strand of hair. He was exonerated in 2012. It was later revealed that one of the hairs presented at trial came from a dog.

So anyway remember anytime you hear about “forensic evidence” that a lot of it is bullcrap and not scientifically validated and a lot of so-called experts are just pulling conclusions out of their ass.

the forensic hair analysis thing is terrible, the FBI literally invented a branch of forensic psuedoscience with no evidence behind it in order to boost conviction rates, then taught the bogus technique to thousands of forensic investigators in the us and around the world. we have no idea how many people have been wrongfully convicted, and this is just one in a very long list of forensic techniques that lack rigorous scientific evaluation

It’s been another year or two so here’s an extremely recent article about how “Criminal Profiling” is totally bogus and TV shows like Mindhunters continue to focus on it because it looks cool and makes good stories, but it really only works in the movies.

Profilingwas trendy in the 70s-90sbuthas been falling into disrepute ever since. This 2007 analysis showed that Criminal Profilers do not outperform regular detective work. Here’s another analysis finding Profiling unreliable in its current form and suggests ways to make it more scientifically rigorous. Here’s another.

edwordsmyth:

“Bill Gates is one of the richest people in world history. His net worth, at $100 billion, is greater than that of the annual GDP of the 138 poorest countries when considered individually. In early April 2017, he and his wife Melinda issued their annual public letter, which told of great news: the fight against global poverty is being won, as those living on less than $1.25 a day (the UN’s definition of extreme poverty) have been halved since 1990. But there is an extensive scholarly consensus that the threshold for poverty should be $5 a day, in fact the US Department of Agriculture concluded a decade ago it is the bare minimum needed for people to simply maintain homeostasis. In adjusted terms that means today the poverty line should be $7.40 a day. Using this well-founded revised number, 4.2 billion people are living in poverty, more than 60% of humanity. But Marx’s immiseration thesis is such that it requires the variable of time in order to be proven correct. Has the number of people living on less than $7.40 a day decreased over time? Unfortunately not. Over 1 billion more people fall below this line than they did 35 years, meaning that global poverty is actually increasing. This fact stands in direct contradiction to the self-congratulatory proclamations of the supranational organizations and billionaire “philanthropists” like Bill Gates (who lives in a 125 million dollar mansion).”

I learned about this when my Chinese supervisor at work (who lived in and went to school in Sweden) mentioned offhand that Sweden covered up its cooperation with the Nazis and how this was well known even back then when she was in school.

what the article doesn’t mention but adam tooze does mention is that swedish iron ore imports were the primary factor allowing nazi germany to build up its forces against the red army and then sustain that war effort through 1943. difficulties in lorraine and the ukraine left germany with a huge shortage of high-quality iron ore, which was desperately needed for the entire war effort - tanks, shells, guns, ships, railways, and basically everything else required massive quantities of steel, which in turn required massive quantities of swedish ore. without that ore, operation barbarossa might have been stopped at smolensk, and case blau would have been a fantasy. on top of all that, the swedes were paid very well, and their postwar industrial success owes a lot to that money.

in other words, the swedes helped the nazis far more than any of their actual allies, to the point that the war would have been impossible without them, and no-one was ever punished.

That and so so much more. The Swedish government put swedish communists and other dissidents in work camps, it was always clear which side of the war Sweden was on, we just didn’t want to actually fight ourselves.
And Raoul Wallenberg that is mentioned in the article, the “white buses” that saved so many jews in many places chose to first save people of the “nordic races” and in many places even opted to save nazis from the soviets instead of actual holocaust survivors. One of the biggest nazi parties in Sweden after the war was founded and led by two actual nazis from Germany, one of whom is still alive and an active nazi today. We even have at least 15 people that gets “german war pension” from fighting in the war on the nazi side living in Sweden today.

Cops, Borders, and Carceral Feminists

There is a huge emphasis on policing – including border policing – as the ‘solution’ to prostitution. This is the case even among those on the left. However, it is remarkable how little you will find about the police and borders in such discussions. These omissions have led to the illusion that one can discuss the laws that govern sex work without any discussion about how such laws are implemented and by whom. But laws are not just ‘messaging’; they are what the police are permitted to do in the world.

[…]

Along with racism, anxieties about commercial sex are embedded in the histories of immigration controls. These are legislative spaces where race and gender co-produce racist categories of exclusion: men of colour as traffickers; women of colour as helpless, seductive, infectious; both as threats to the body politic of the nation. These histories help us see that police and border violence are not anomalous or the work of ‘bad apples’; they are intrinsic to these institutions.

The feminist movement should thus be sceptical of approaches to gender justice that rely on or further empower the police or immigration controls. Black feminists such as Angela Davis have long criticised feminist reliance on the police, and note that the police appear as the most benevolent protectors in the minds of those who encounter them the least. For sex workers and other marginalised and criminalised groups, the police are not a symbol of protection but a real manifestation of punishment and control.

[…]

Carceral feminism looms large in sex-trade debates. Feminist commentators pronounce that ‘we must strengthen police apparatus’; that criminalisation is ‘the only way’ to end the sex trade; and that some criminalisation can be relatively ‘benign’. Anti-prostitution feminist Catherine MacKinnon even writes with ambivalent approval of ‘brief jail time’ for prostitutes on the basis that jail can be ‘a respite from the pimps and the street’. She quotes like-minded feminists who argue that ‘jail is the closest thing many women in prostitution have to a battered women’s shelter’ and that, ‘considering the absence of any other refuge or shelter, jail provides a temporary safe haven’.

Sex workers do not share this rosy view of arrest and incarceration. One sex worker in Norway told researchers, ‘You only call the police if you think you’re going to die … If you call the police, you risk losing everything’. Sex workers in Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, Siberia, Lithuania, Macedonia, and Bulgaria all view the police as more of a threat to their safety than any other group, according to research by the Sex Workers’ Rights Advocacy Network (SWAN). In 2017 in New York, a woman called Yang Song was caught up in an undercover sting at the massage parlour at which she worked. She had been arrested for prostitution two months earlier and had recently been sexually assaulted by a man claiming to be a police officer. (It remains unclear as to whether he was.)68 When the police returned, looking to arrest her again for prostitution, she fell, jumped, or was pushed from a fourth-floor window. Yang Song died.

doing schoolwork outside with starbucks >>>>>

it’s been sooooo important for me to actually get out of my dorm room so i’m not in there literally all day. going to a study room, going to my dorm’s courtyard, or even taking the trip to starbucks have been my saving grace

I recently resumed In Search of Lost Time: Vol. III The Guermantes Way, and find myself once again enthralled by the range, pattern, pace, and sweep of Proust’s sentences. Hardly a page goes by that I don’t feverishly copy one down in my journal–which, as I’m sure you can imagine, slows down the pace of my reading.

Here are two sentences that range in style and achievement. The first is a wonderful example of Proust’s great ability to illustrate ideas through rather abstract similes.

“The immobility of that thin face, like that of a sheet of paper subjected to the colossal pressure of two atmospheres, seemed to me to be held in equilibrium by two infinites which converged on her without meeting, for she held them apart. Indeed, looking at her, Robert and I, the two of us did not see her from the same side of the mystery.”

The following passage from a few pages later shows Proust continuing a  description of the characters’ inner thoughts, while recognizing a perfunctory need to advance simple plot action:

“But what would be the use of plying Rachel with questions when he already knew that her answer would be merely silence, or a lie, or something extremely painful for him to hear, which would yet explain nothing. The porters were shutting the doors; we hurriedly climbed into a first-class carriage; Rachel’s magnificent pearls reminded Robert that she was a woman of great price; he caressed her, restored her to her place in his heart where he could contemplate her, interiorised, as he had always done hitherto–save during this brief instant in which he had seen her in the Place Pigalle of an Impressionist painter–and the train moved off.”

I love how the pace quickens as we move from the exterior world of the train station, to the interior world of Robert’s thoughts, and ultimately the narrator’s speculation and judgement of Robert’s predicament. The materiality of Rachel’s pearls serves as another entry point for the interior world of Robert’s thoughts. The real world and all of its abrupt movements punctuate the inner dream and illusion, grounding or returning Robert and the narrator to the real. You get a sense or premonition here that Robert will experience great difficulty in passage across this  boundary between his desire-fueled image of Rachel, and the forces of the real world, the “Rachel when from the Lord” of the streets. This is exactly the boundary illustrated in the simile above, the “two infinites which converged on her without meeting.”

I’m getting the urge to start a new blog or just leave entirely. I’m so tired of doing readings for people who refuse to pay me then act like assholes and it makes me not want to do readings for people at all. The joy I get from sharing past lives is trampled by the sheer amount of bullshit from people expecting shit for free. I don’t give a shit if they see this because they have truly hurt me. This is something that I love and I’m so passionate about but after constant messaging between us I give up. There’s no way to get back the time and energy they stole from me so I’m taking a break. I don’t know how long I’ll be gone and I’ll likely run on a queue for a while. But I’m done.

Finally got settled into my new place and I have my alter set up at last. Time to get some readings done! ‍♀️

Making Space for Tarot - a brief look at the concept of a sacred space and how this can relate to the practice of Tarot

One of the things that I’ve come across on my own personal journey with spirituality is this idea of a ‘Sacred Space’. If you’ve been researching you’ve probably come across this idea too. So what exactly is a Sacred Space and do you need one for reading your cards?

Personally, I’ve never had a specific physical space, as much as I have a mental one; a headspace that I find I need to be in to…

We all have those awkward decisions that we have to make, what if the cards can help? Let’s look at several ways we can get a simple yes/no response from your deck.

So we’ve talked a lot recently about the sort of questions you can ask the Tarot and how to develop your intuition in how to read their messages. But what if you want a simple yes or no answer? Well, you can still ask your cards, and there, as with most things, are several systems you can use. Which is what I’m going to talk about today.

my second one, done by @fox-sprt!!

i will post a review separately!

Your heart is a gentle blue color. Baby blue, but softer. I could almost see it as grey, but there was a gentle blue light cast down from the ceiling. There are soft darker blue areas that show up and disappear.
What really took me by surprise is that when I stepped in, the heart was already open. On the ground cried a baby tiger. The ground was up to almost my ankles in sparkly blue water. After regaining myself, I step forward and pick up the tiger. It cries into my arm and I gently brush off the water that has a foul smell, even as it looks so pretty. I am sickened by it. I step toward your heart, and find the inside cracked, and oozing the blue water.
In a small burst of energy I push all the water out of your heart and out of your heart chamber. I throw it out to the void to be lost to the darkness. The heart still gently oozes it, but it’s easier to clean up. I gently scab over the inside of the heart. There’s nothing more I can do as only you can truly heal your heart. I line the heart with soft purple velvet and place the crying tiger inside, careful not to actually touch the heart it’s self. It closes with a small click, and I am forcefully thrown back out into my own body.

your aura is very light and bubbly, there is te sound of crashing waves, but this isn’t where I was the last time I saw your aura. I don’t know where I am. I can smell something cooking, and am reminded of campfires and summer trees, but I think I see an ocean, vauegly in the distance. I’m standing on what seems like blue jello. Bouncing slightly, I make my way foreward. I can start heraing drums, they don’t match the song I’m playing in the physical. Curious, I bend my knees and jump as high as I can into the sky without expanding my wings. I only go a few feet but I laugh, and the sound comes out light blue. Not like, my synesthia, but like I can see it. It’s nice to be able to see since my lull started forever ago. I started running and bounding forward and leap over the ocean. I throw out my wings and fly forward. I can taste something sweet, like a lollipop or cherry flavouring.

I see something glittering over the ocean and fly down to it. It’s a heart capsule with light pink shimmering surface. Gnetly poking it, it jiggles, but not as much as the blue stuff I walked on. I place my hand on it and it clicks open. Three mice scurry out, one blue, one yellow and one red. They all climb up my arm and sit there. I laugh for a second before my vision goes black.

I’m  sprinting down the street. I know the street, but at the same time, I can’t place how I know it. My hair is sweating and sticking to my forhead as I sprint. I can feel my over sized shirt getting caught in the wind, only to slam back down on my sweat coated body. I’m out of breath and my side is killing me, but I can’t stop running. The sun is setting, but it’s not setting fast enough. I some how know I have to run until it’s comepletly hidden byt the buildings in the distance. I look forward and keep sprinting. My knees buckle, my ankle twists, but I keep my balence and keep going. I’ve left the city far behind. The road went from pavement to gravel to dirt. Where am I going? I don’t know, I just have to keep moving. My foot slips and I fall on my face. I can hear the things, sniffling around. They know I fell, they’re looking for me. The last rays of sun are still on the land. why couldn’t I have lasted 2 more minutes. I can’t move. I’m down. Something breaks through the rows of corn to my left just as the sun sets. There are whines of dissipointment and whatever was here, slowly skins back away. I’m alive, this time.

straight men trying to make Serious war dramas and accidentally making incredibly tender homoerotic cinema is the funniest thing

In his essay, “Masculinity as Spectacle,” Steve Neale seeks to extend Laura Mulvey’s work on the male gaze and to challenge her assertion that the male or male-identified spectator can never look upon the male body as an erotic object. To challenge Mulvey’s assertion, Neale identifies the mechanisms mainstream Hollywood cinema uses to represent the male body as erotic. One way of doing this, Neale argues, is by making the male body the target of violence. In the war film, a soldier can hold his buddy – as long as his buddy is dying on the battlefield. In the western, Butch Cassidy can wash the Sundance Kid’s naked flesh – as long as it is wounded. In the boxing film, a trainer can rub the well-developed torso and sinewy back of his protege – as long as it is bruised. In the crime film, a mob lieutenant can embrace his boss like a lover – as long as he is riddled with bullets. Violence makes the homoeroticism of many “male” genres invisible; it is a structural mechanism of plausible deniability.
