The Black sisters.

Really wonder what their relationship would have been.

“Lucky”, they always called him.

(Later, they preferred the word “charmed”, because it always made Ted grin and crack a joke, and it was always wonderful to be around Ted when he was making you laugh.)

Ted Tonks was the luckiest of children, it had to be admitted. His parents adored him, his relatives lived close enough for visits (but far enough away that seeing them was still a treat), his house was snug and cozy and surrounded by children his age.

Until the age of 11, Ted Tonks led the perfect Muggle childhood. And then the letter came, and he went from merely “lucky” to “the luckiest kid in the world.”

(Or at least that’s how he told it to Dora at bedtime.)

There are people with a innate sense of charm, people who draw you to them and make you smile and leave you with an impression of their good nature and kindness forever.

Ted Tonks was one of those people.

How could Andromeda stay away? Who could blame her for falling? This girl who grew up in the coldest of houses, with the most rigid of backbones- how could she not melt upon meeting a boy who glowed like the sun?

Ted Tonks was charmed and charming and she could do nothing else but love him.

He knew his luck would run out one day.

The horseshoe over the door would flip, the fourth petal would fall off the clover, the smooth fur on the rabbit’s foot would shed itself.

When the Dark Lord returned, Ted could feel his luck begin to run dry. His daughter began to fade away, his wife was tense and nervous, his clients were too afraid to come to the office. It was like he could it approaching, slow and careful and so very cold.

But he was Ted Tonks, charmed boy, bringer of light and joy. So he welcomed the werewolf son-in-law, and kissed his wife’s frown away, and rejoiced over the fact that he would be a grandfather.

And so when he faced down the snatchers that last day, Ted Tonks didn’t cower or surrender or show any sign of fear.

He cracked a smile. And he laughed.
