This is when you will find me,
in my witching hour…

This is an inscripted runestone from the 10th century Viking age, located in the graveyard of Rimsø This is an inscripted runestone from the 10th century Viking age, located in the graveyard of Rimsø This is an inscripted runestone from the 10th century Viking age, located in the graveyard of Rimsø This is an inscripted runestone from the 10th century Viking age, located in the graveyard of Rimsø

This is an inscripted runestone from the 10th century Viking age, located in the graveyard of Rimsø church, Denmark. The church itself dates back to 1150, making it one of the oldest churches of Denmark, and underneath it might also hide a former structure from the late Viking age. With its 2,30m of hight, Rimsø runestone is one of the tallest runestones in the country (there are taller ones only on Bornholm), and one of the few stones in Scandinavia erected for a woman. The stone is made of blue granite and inscripted in the Younger Futhark runic alphabeth, a reduced form of only 16 characters of the Elder Futhark, which was in use from the 2nd to the 8th century. Its inscription, partially damaged, states that “Þórir, Einráði’s brother, raised this stone in memory of his mother and … (a mother’s death) is the worst (misfortune) for a son”. Expressing feelings at the end of a runestone inscription is quite unique. Another peculiarity of this stone is that the runic text starts on the narrow side of the stone, unlike most runestones found in Europe, where it usually starts on the larger side. Rimsø runestone also stands out as this is the only runestone in Denmark with the so-called “lønskrift” scripture, where some words, four in this case, must be read in reverse.

The stone stands on a 24m large and 1.5m high tumulus that has never been archaeologically excavated. On the top of the mound, there’s a depression that could reveal the presence of a partially collapsed burial chamber, that might contain the remains of this woman. It’s not sure where the stone was originally located, if on the top of the burial mound or on its foot, and if it was part of the burial mound, but only an archaeological investigation of the complex could shed some light on their possible connection. What we know is that about 100 Danish churches stand on more ancient burial grounds, the most famous of which are in Jelling, where a church has been built between two large burial mounds, the graves of King Gorm and Queen Thyra, whose remains Harald Blåtand later moved to the first Christian church he built in Jelling. Rimsø runestone is mentioned for the first time in 1832. Until 1875 it was walled into the south side of the church near the pedestal, and in 1889 it got its present location on the mound. Until 1814 there was also another smaller runestone, which has now unfortunately disappeared.

New print!

Hér Ferr Hafdjarfr – Here sails the Sea-Brave.

Handpulled screenprint, available as t-shirt and backpatch: https://www.etsy.com/shop/limbsdisarm

Bryggen, Bergen, Norway – Some time during the early middle ages an unknown master runer carefully carved a Juniper stick with outstanding and meaningful designs. Still incredibly evocative of that past, the stick represents a complete Viking war fleet in all its power and glory, probably ready to sail, with dragonheads and pennants dominating the scene. On the reverse side of the stick is written Hér ferr Hafdjarfr, which literally means ‘Here sails the Sea-Brave’, either meaning an entire fleet or referring to the particular name (Hafdjarfr) of a local sea-bold.
Juniper itself was definitely not a random choice for the job. Part of the cypress family, it is one of the most widespread conifers and Vikings, being seamen and adventures who spread throughout Europe and beyond, would have found it everywhere. From warm and sunny Mediterranean places to the freezing landscapes of Norway, Greenland and Iceland, thus infusing a sense of longevity and immortality.
This print is the celebration of one of the most evocative archaeological findings in Scandinavian history and, in particular, of its Viking Age.

What Is the Wyrd Rune? Why Is Wyrd Rune Called the Blank Rune and What Does It Mean?

We are finishing our learning journey on Germanic Runes with a discussion on a Runic symbol that has always been a subject for arguments and confusions.

The Rune of Odin, or the Wyrd Rune, that we will talk about was not originally part of the Rune set used for magic.

Ogirinally, the idea to add the Wyrd Rune to the Elder Futhark was proposed by Ralph Blum, the writer of the famous books “The Book of Runes” and “The Healing Runes: Tools for the Recovery of Body, Mind, Hearth & Soul.”

Needless to say, the interpretation of Germanic Runes provided by Ralph Blum was quite different from the traditional one.

For this reason, there is a lot of controversy about his approach to Runes in general, as well as the addition of the Wyrd Rune to the Elder Futhark.

Nevertheless, we will learn it, as it is used by some for Runic Divination and causes confusion to many new Rune readers when they receive their Rune stones for divination and find an “extra, empty or blank Rune” in there.

I want you to keep in mind that the are different interpretations available for this Rune, based on the Runemaster’s experience, relationship with the Runes and tradition they follow.

It is up to you which meaning makes the most sense to you, just as it is entirely up to you whether you will use this Rune in your practice.

The Rune of Odin names

So, let’s start by declaring all the names you may come across that all refer to the same thing:

• The Wyrd Rune

•The Rune of Odin

•The Blank Rune

•The Destiny Rune

•The Rune of Fate

-All these refer to the same Runestone.

And it is important here to understand what Destiny means to you.

Do you believe that someone or something else has a control over your life and what ultimately will happen to it?

Or do you believe that YOU are in a control of your destiny?

From what you have answer to yourself right now depends the meaning of the Rune that will resonate the most with you.

Stick to that meaning. -

The Wyrd Rune Meaning – Option 1

Ralph Blum described this Rune as the time in person’s life when Destiny is at play. But he implied that your Destiny is in your OWN hands and when this Rune comes up, it is the time for you to take control and do what you judge to be right.

He believed that we make our own destiny and this Rune should act as a push for you to take control and act.

There is no advice the Wyrd Rune gives and no question this Rune can answer. It does not have a direct meaning that we can refer to when we speak of love life, career or finances.

The Wyrd Rune includes ALL the meanings and interpretations of Elder Futhark Runes. And this also answers the question: “Why Is the Wyrd Rune called the Rune of Odin?”

Odin made a sacrifice to learn the Runes - a gift for a gift, thereby going from ignorance or blankness to knowledge and wisdom the Runes give.

If this is the option you choose to adapt in your divination, then when it comes up, your advice to yourself or a client is: “Use your head and your judgement.”

-Do you now understand why the Wyrd Rune is called “Blank”?

This Rune is like a blank piece of paper. You are free to draw or write on it what you wish, as you are free to write the story of your own life.

The Wyrd Rune Meaning – Option 2

Some Rune readers interpret the Rune differently based on their understanding of the Destiny.

They believe that this Rune is the sign of Fate, or Karma.

Karma is not a Germanic concept and the reason why I refer to it is solely for your understanding of the subject.

Nowadays, we all know (somewhat) what Karma is in Western understanding of it. Here, the Wyrd Rune means that there are powers in action greater than us that ultimately affect the outcome of the situation in question.

If this is your understanding of Destiny or Fate, then if the Wyrd Rune comes up in a reading, you interpret it as the time in person’s life that the situation is beyond their control and it is now the time to let go and trust the Universe/Fate.

The Wyrd Rune Meaning – Option 3

Lastly, some Runemaster that also practice Tarot, draw a parallel between the Wyrd Rune and Tarot cards.

So, basically, in this case, the Rune of Odin points on a situation when the information is not available to the asker.

You can compare this Rune to the High Priestess Tarot card. It is the knowledge you need to learn, research and uncover but it is not yet readily available to you.

And whether you want to learn this information is not only up to you, but may be even be not needed for you to know as this time.

The High priestess Tarot card often asks us the questions: “Are you ready to learn this information, as once you do, there is no going back.”

If this is the option that resonates with you the most, then when the Wyrd Rune comes up in a reading, it would mean that the information you are inquiring about is not yet available to you.

The Rune will not answer yes/no question either.

I want to quickly give you another example here.

For those who practice Pendulum magic. You know how we have the movements for “yes” and “no”. But when the Pendulum is quiet and does not move, we know that the answer is not available.

This would be the same with the Rune of Odin.

Interpretation of the Wyrd Rune – Practical Example

Let’s review one example of how we can potentially interpret the Wyrd Rune in a Rune reading. We will take the most popular area clients usually inquire about – love life.

In this case study you have a woman client that is asking if she will get married and start a family with her long-term boyfriend.

If you are inclined to use the first option of interpretation based on the theory of Blum, then we say that the relationship is in the hands on the woman in question. She should take charge, make a push, imply to her partner about her vision of their relationship or be direct. Whatever works for her. If she decides to have a family, she will have it but if she thinks this person ultimately is not right for her, she should walk away.

If you stick to the second option, then here we say that the Destiny is at play in this relationship. If it is meant for this couple to get married and settle down together, it will happen. But if it’s not, no matter how hard the woman tries, the partners will eventually part.

You can look at the nearby Rune or Runes for more information. They will be able to predict which way the relationship is heading.

If you follow the third option, then the answer to this question is not available at this time. Maybe the woman should reflect on her situation or find out more about her partner. There can be something about him that she yet does not know but when she learns it, she will completely change her opinion on this person.

-I hope this case study helped you to understand how to apply this Rune.

Can you omit the Wyrd Rune entirely in your practice?

Like I said before, it is entirely up to you whether you want to use the Wyrd Rune in your divination.

With keeping in mind that this Rune was not used in ancient times and it entirely a new concept, make a decision based on the path or tradition you follow. Many Runemasters do just fine without using this Rune.

Do I use the Wyrd Rune in my practice and what option do I stick to?

First of all, I have a lot of Runestones sets but I also have Rune cards that I purchased and absolutely love to use in my practice.

My Rune cards do not have an Empty card and I use them just fine as such.

I have Runestone sets that I have purchased in the past that contain an Empty Rune and, in this case, I use it.

I also leave an Empty Rune in the sets I personally make and leave it up to the purchaser of the set to decide for themselves whether to use it.

With regards to the Rune meaning that resonates the most with me, I stick to the second option. This is my understanding of Fate and Destiny and I read the Rune accordingly.

I hope this Blog post was helpful to you. Let me know in the comments if you use the Wyrd Rune and how do you interpret it.

Three ways to pull Runes for divination.

1. Pick from the pouch and throw.

2. Select one by one or multiple and place side by side.

3. Do a Rune cards spread, this example is problem-focus-outcome.

Modern meaning of Fehu is prosperity, money, and property. It is the Rune of creation & destruction, energy and fertility. It is a true Rune of abundance through EFFORT and perseverance. It will not tolerate lazy and reckless behaviour, as well as greed.

Rune Fehu will aid with obtaining a favorable outcome of a project, task, any new beginning. It gives a power to obtain as well as helps to preserve what you already have. It will help in a situation where you are at competition or opposition.

You can use this Rune when making a purchase, going for a job interview or in general, when dealing with any financial matters. This Rune is also connected to the wellbeing of the soul, it aids in creative projects where you express yourself and use your talents.

One more point that shourd be mentioned about interpretation of Fehu is what a person is going to do with their wealth or in general, their material possessions.

There is a reason why this Rune means “cattle”. It does not directly mean money or house. Cattle is not only a possession but also a continuous source of production. This metaphor asks person to take a closer look at what they are doing to continuously expand and improve.

Fehu IS read reversed, so be mindful when doing any Viking or Ásátru style Runes tattoo that includes Fehu.

Rune Advice: you need to stop dreaming and get back on Earth. Start on working on your goals and do what it takes to get where you want to be.

Update on content and focus

I was going to upload a daily tarot as much as I could remember but it looks like I won’t be doing that, but I will be posting lots of spreads like the year spread and the new moon spread.

Now, what’s with all the tarot?

So basically, I’m focusing on tarot at the moment and concentrating on learning to read the cards without having to refer to a book. I’d love to do intuitive readings as well but I need to better connect with the cards and get to know them more before I can do that properly. So that’s my focus currently, I’ll be posting other stuff too, just less of it. I’m doing a ritual soon with my moon water from this last full moon, I’ll post about that, I’m gonna attempt a sort of anti-anxiety charm vial whenever I can get some vials, and I’ll post that too, but it’ll mostly be tarot. Might also do some information type posts about Tyr, Loki, Thor, and maybe some others, but again, not for a while as I’m focusing on tarot.

Thanks for the patience, thanks for the support.

Virgo new moon spread

The Hermit

  1. The Empress (reversed)
  2. The Chariot
  3. The Son of Cups (reversed)
  4. The V of Pentacles (reversed)

Interesting tarot spread

Ok so this post is sort of two things at once, it’s the first look at my new deck! It’s a really interesting spread I just did as well

three tarot cards in front of the rest of the deck fanned out upside down

The past card is the Mother of Pentacles (practicality, creature comforts, financial security), the present card is the Death card (and of a cycle, beginnings, change, metamorphosis), and the future card is the Daughter of Pentacles (dreams, desire, new opportunity). This was a little unexpected, getting a court card, then the death card, and then another court card from the same suit is very unusual but it’s also very easy to read in a way. I’m not going to do a breakdown of the meanings because it’s quite a personal thing but I thought it would be interesting to post

I got a new tarot deck!!

(Technically my sister bought it but like, with my money) I got the wild unknown tarot deck and oh my gosh!!! Ok so the deck cost about £22.30 which is about $27.42 (USD) which at first I thought was a lot but now seeing it, it’s probably worth more than that. It’s a really beautiful deck, the packaging is very professional and aesthetically pleasing, the guidebook is an actual book instead of a flimsy booklet and the cards themselves are sturdy and easy to read. While I would recommend getting a cheaper deck as your first deck, this an incredible set and could be used as a first deck thanks to the detailed guidebook. A solid 10/10. I’ll post some photos soon but I want some time to connect with the cards before anyone else sees them.

Daily tarot

Today’s card in the King of Swords

I’ve never drawn the King of Swords before! I spent today giving information and all that stuff. Pretty accurate actually

Daily tarot

Today’s card is the Ace of Swords!

I wasn’t entirely expecting this card, having said that, my ability to think and get stuff done today has been good, so it does still apply to today

Tarot card readings!

Ok, so, I don’t have my own tarot deck because I’m broke (I’m gonna get one soon, I actually have enough money atm) BUT I have a tarot app called Golden Thread Tarot that does tarot readings, so I’m going to screenshot my daily readings and post them here! I hope y'all… appreciate it? I don’t know. Also, the app is rly good and I would deffinatly recommend it. (There’s also an actual deck of the deck in the app that you can buy, I want it. It’s beautiful.)

Today’s chard is the IV of Wands!

Considering that it’s the card of the home, it’s very fitting as I’ve really enjoyed being at home lately. Feeling very homely. And wholesome. All that.

Hi! This is a nice surprise…

So, turns out this blog has gotten popular out of blue and has gotten nearly 600 followers in about 2 moths, so I just wanted to say thanks! And hello to all new followers! I have some other blogs if you want to check them out:

Art account: @art-imitated-life-once

Personal/random blog: @louis-therouxs-left-nipple

Aesthetic blog: @xyesterdays-feelingsx

I don’t have a lot of time at the moment so I won’t be posting a lot, but will occasionally post things like spells, hacks, ideas, experiencing, and that kind of thing. I’m about get my new book of shadows properly started, and I’ll post things about my progress with it once I get started (I probably won’t post photos of pages because a witch’s book of shadows is a very personal thing, but I’ll post about it. You can expect post within the next week. Thanks guys!

Thurisaz tattoo

I did a stick and poke of Thurisaz (Thor’s rune) and it turned out ok. It’s a bit squint on one end but that’s ok. (The photo is from when it was fresh, it’s healed now)

(The photo is from when it was fresh, it’s healed now)

My Book Of Shadows

The book I’m using as a book of shadows (currently) is just a standard A6 notebook so I’ve been looking for a better notebook, then I remembered that I got a really cool sketchbook for my 8th, 9th, or 10th birthday (can’t remember which) and I could totally use it as a book of shadows.

It’s made by a company called paperblanks, who make really good notebooks that are great for using as a book of shadows. They have some really cool designs

Rune burning

Just a quick tip/idea, when I have an event coming up, I write down the runes I want to have an effect on the even and make it more successful, then I light a candle and burn the runes, which releases the energy. For example, I have exams coming up so I burned Thurisaz (for Thor’s strength) and Dagaz (for success and achievement).

Super simple and quick.

Runestones

I have enough money in my bank account to get the rune stone set that I really want… But thats pretty much all the money in my account. Should I????

Starting out in witchcraft

I’ve been asked a lot of questions by people who are interested in witchcraft but don’t know where to start, and I gotta say, it is super difficult to figure where the best place to start is, and so I figured I would make a post specifically for those baby witches who aren’t sure where to start

Research

The most important part of being a baby witch is research, but theses such a huge amount of information out there that it can be difficult to know where to start. The easiest way to do it, and the way I did it, is by just starting with what drew you to witchcraft. I was drawn to runes initially so started researching runestones and divination, which is how I got into tarot and everything else came in turn. Even if what drew you to the craft is something as superficial as fashion, you can still research where those fashions came from. Question everything. You see lavender is used in a spell? Research why. You see that a certain colour of candle works better in a spell? Research why. You see a sigil? Find out the origin. Someone gives you a tip on the internet? Do background research into what they said. Never just blindly follow what someone says especially if you’re going to use it in your craft. Make sure you know exactly what everything is, means, and where it came from before using it in any capacity. The better informed you are, the more likely good things will come from your craft.

Book of Shadows and Grimiors

Keeping a book of shadows or a grimior (or both) is a great way to record your research. Its important not to get caught up in the way your book shadows looks. Of course if you want to make a beautiful book of shadows then that’s fantastic, but if a page takes you so long to write that it’s hindering your research, then I would consider keeping both a book of shadows and a grimior. A grimior is purely for information, facts, spells, etc… a grimior is worth taking time over. A book of shadows functions more as a journal. For writing personal experience, notes, etc… I keep a very messy book of shadows in a plain notebook that I just write whatever in. It has no kind of order to it all, and I suspect no one can read it but me. I also keep a grimior in a beautiful leather bound notebook that I bought in italy and I write in it in neat and specifically stylised writing that is easy to read. Infact, I also have a separate tarot journal. Having both, I find, puts less pressure on academics.

Start simple

Don’t expect too much too soon. I wouldn’t recommend diving right into complex spellwork. If you’ve just started, there are probably things you don’t know about casting spells that are important to keep you safe, and you haven’t had the time find your energy and how to focus it to the best of your abilities. Give yourself time to figure out what you want in your practice rather than diving into one specific path. And absolutely don’t work with the fae straight off the bat. Bad idea. Bad. Don’t do it. Do your research. I also would recommend getting a feel for the practice and for what you want from it before committing yourself to a deity/deities. Again, give yourself time to figure out what path to take. It’s totally ok to change your path along the way. If you initially decide to be a green witch but change your mind and opt for cottage witchcraft, that is totally ok. Changing you path even when you were absolutely certain, is absolutely fine, even if you’ve been on your initial path for years (even decades). I haven’t decided a specific path at all yet, so I’m currently an eclectic witch, but that may, and is likely, to change

It’s important to remember that every witch’s path is different. Gatekeeping is a big problem in the community but don’t allow people to tell you that you have to be born into a family of witches to be a witch. It’s a practice, not an inherited gift or race.

Tbh this post isnt complete and I’ll continue to add to it very time as I think of things

Year spread

The year spreads I usually do just month by month spread but this time i did a spread based on aspects of the year and i thought I’d share it (I found the spread on tumblr btw but I can’t remember who’s it is)

(Please excuse my handwriting, I don’t usually post stuff with my own writing but I didn’t want to type it out again)

Witchy planner for 2020!!

I saw a planner on tiktok that someone was recommending, and it wasn’t too expensive so I went ahead and bough it and it’s so cool!!

It’s called the Coloring Book of Shadows Planner for a Magical 2020, it cost £13.15 ($17.22) from Amazon

[NOT MY PHOTO] [found it on google]

It has a page for a tarot card for every month, it has information about how to use the planner within your practice, a wheel of the year, a seasons wheel, zodiac information, retrograde info, moon phases info (and moon phases calendar), stuff about chakras, divination, scrying, the basics for spell casting, a page to write you intuition for the coming year information on the different full moon, good spells to cast at certain times of the year, and of course, a month by month planner with space to write plans or thoughts for everyday.

Personally, I’m only using it to write events that are relevant to my practice, but you can use it like a normal planner too. I also noted down all the retrogrades for this year in the moon phases calendar.

I love this planner because I often forget things like retrogrades, full moons, important days to cast specific spells on, even sabbats. I don’t have a very good memory for these things so having the planner has already been really useful and I’ve only had it for 2 days! I’m also writing all of it as neatly as I can because like a book of shadows, it’ll be fun to look back at it in the future. Usually my handwriting wouldn’t be at all legible. (Infact I’m writing all of it in cursive with a fountain pen bc I’m a nerd).

I may even start writing my daily tarot cards in it!

I love this planner and would definitely recommend it to any witch, but especially if you tend to lose track of time or have a bad memory. (Or if you just like to be organized)

One of the best things about this planner is that the whole thing is also a coloring book!! All of the artwork is black outlines so that you can color it however you want! I think it’s super cool. It’s also very relaxing to color.
