#jar spell
how to craft a spell jar:
- gather your ingredients
- charge & program each ingredient before adding it to the jar (aka, give power & instructions to your ingredients)
- add the ingredients to the jar
- close the jar
- enchant the jar as a whole object (see my post on enchanting items for further guidance)
- seal with wax, ribbon, or string to finalize & cast the spell
- optional: decorate your bottle if you wish
what you can use as a jar:
- tiny craft store jars
- mason jars
- pickle / pasta sauce jars
- old medication bottles
- food storage containers
what you can add to a spell jar:
- dried herbs
- dried citrus peels
- magickal powders
- small crystals
- gem chips
- essential oils (a drop or two will go a long way)
- infused oils (carrier oils such as olive or grapeseed oil that have been infused with herbs)
- a few drops of charged water (storm water, war water, sea water, holy water, rain water, moon water, sun water, etc.)
- paper(with sigils / symbols / glyphs drawn on it, an incantation, a name, a phrase, etc.)
- coins
- beads
- glitter or confetti
- seashells / shark teeth / beach sand
- leaves
- DNA(finger nail clippings, a piece of hair, etc. to be used as a taglock)
- animal fur, nail clippings, teeth, or whiskers***
- nails, glass, pins, needles, thorns, & other sharp objects (great for cursing, binding, banishing, or protection)
- vinegar, lemon juice, pickle juice (mostly for “souring” a situation)
- honey, sugar, syrup (to “sweeten” a situation or for attraction)
- pretty much anything that fits & corresponds to your intent
what you should avoid putting in a spell jar:
- fresh herbs or plant material (this can cause mold to grow inside of the jar)
- biological secretions (i mean, you can if you want but it’s not necessarily sanitary & there are cleaner, more easily obtained taglocks to use instead)
what spell jars are good for:
- containing your spell, theoretically making it easier to manipulate & control
- manifesting goals/intentions over time
- manifesting goals continuously
- passive manifestation that doesn’t require much ongoing participation from the caster
what to do with your spell jar once it’s been crafted:
- keep it on your altar
- depending on the intent of the spell, keep it in a different area that you frequent (for glamours, keep it in the bathroom; for sleep or dreams, keep it in the bedroom; for safe travels, keep it in your vehicle; for cursing, keep it concealed in a black box; etc.)
- wear it around your neck
- put it in your pocket, purse, or backpack
- bury it in your backyard or within a potted plant outside (for spells you don’t plan to undo or want to last indefinitely)
- if burying is not an option, hide it somewhere on your property
- leave it at a crossroads
recharging spell jars:
- shake it up
- light a candle on top of or next to it
- submerge it in a bath of herbs or crystals that are associated with energy
- submerge or surround with sea salt (a natural conductor of energy)
- anoint with oil / blessed or charged water
- pair with a tarot card or rune stone that matches your intent
- suffumigate with incense smoke
- energy work & visualization
disposing of & reversing spell jars - when you feel like the spell has done its job or you need to undo its effects:
- do not throw the entire jar into an open flame - this is incredibly dangerous
- remove the contents from the jar & either burn them or bury them
- for items you wish to save, cleanse them thoroughly before using them again
- take the jar & cleanse it in whatever manner you choose & either save it to be reused; or shatter it & then dispose of it properly
***please practice safe & ethical harvesting when it comes to using parts from a living animal in your craft; don’t ever trim whiskers off of your pet (if they come out naturally then it’s okay to use them); routine grooming is a great way to obtain some of the things i mentioned; you can use the baby teeth that you inevitably find when your puppy or kitten is teething, also!

✨ Green Witch’s Comfort Spell Jar
In a small jar with a cork top, layer:
- Basil
- Lemongrass or Lemon Balm
- Rosemary
- Tree Bark (I used White Oak)
- Cinnamon
- Fennel Seeds
- Ginger Root
- Mint
- Pine Needles
Let it charge in the sun for an afternoon near your houseplants, in the garden, or even under a favorite tree in the woods. For an extra boost, charge it near a moss agate stone too! Later, seal it with green or white wax and recite:
“Support me and guide me, Spirits of Nature. As a Green Witch, I thank you for your many blessings. I take a little piece of the Forest with me as I walk my path. Blessed be, and so mote it be.”
You can now take your little piece of the Forest inside your spell jar with you wherever you go as a reminder of your Green Witch oath and path. It’s great to keep in your bag, purse, or travel altar! Blessed be, lovelies!
31 Days of PC Spells, Day 3: Write a spell based on a lesser-known and/or less popular fairy tale
Based on the fairytale “By the Pike’s Will” from Russia. This is a really quick and simple jar spell!
What you need:
- a natural source of water (ocean, lake, river, pond, etc)
- a glass jar (relatively large)
- paintbrush (fine) and paint
- a seashell, smooth stone, or sand dollar — you must be able to paint on it and it must fit in the jar you’ve chosen.
- a wish to make
How to:
First, fill your glass jar with water from your natural source, and then return to your home/place of witchcraft. On the outside of the jar, paint the words “By the pike’s will, at my command” in any placement that pleases you.
Now paint your wish on your seashell/stone/sand dollar. To represent your wish, you may use words, drawings, or sigils — whatever suits you most. When you are satisfied, add this into your jar.
Instincts are very important in witchcraft, and here’s the time to rely on yours. At some point, you will take the wishing jar back to the natural source of water to release your wish. Do this only when your intuition informs you that it is the most appropriate time.
After you release your wish, refill your jar with new water. Make sure this water is completely foreign to the wishing jar; walk some distance down the water bank if need be. Collect a new seashell/stone/sand dollar for the next time you have a wish to make. Your current wish is already out there, waiting to be found and (hopefully) granted by a particular, very generous pike!
a simple honey based jar spell to sweeten a pre-existing bond
gather: honey, sugar, lemon seeds, a jar, a candle.
find a taglock of you and the person
mix the honey, sugar, and lemon seeds together in the jar.
optional, light a yellow/orange/pink candle, depending on the nature of the relationship.
put the taglock in the jar, chant:
Sweet as sugar, by this honeyed spell,
only in nectarous feelings our bond shall dwell
puckered lips, our love shall never be sour,
from these seeds sweeter feelings flowerseal with wax (optional).
to dispose/break the spell: rinse the mixture out of the jar, cleanse the taglock and empty jar.
Want to move to Manhattan? Hawaii? The Rockies? Need an extra umph to align what you need to move there? This spell is for when mundane efforts just don’t seem to cut it without an extra umph.
Materials:
- glass jar, preferably honey jar
- honeycomb
- postcard of where you want to move
- prayer card of St. Christopher, patron saint of safe travels
- orange candle
- the Sun tarot card, symbolizing optimism and fulfillment
- gemstones: dumortierite, jade (preferably green), magnetite, rhodocrosite, sodalite, zincite, any stones from the area where you want to move or that you associate with that place
- herbs: acorn, allspice, nutmeg, oregano, bay leaf, any herbs from the area where you want to move or that you associate with that place
This spell would be best done during the waxing moon, preferably at sunrise (or just in the morning). Sandwich the postcard between the St. Christopher prayer card and Sun tarot card and put that into the glass jar along with the honeycomb, stones and herbs. Seal it and place the orange candle on top of it. Sit facing it, facing the direction of where you want to move.
Visualize yourself overcoming obstacles to reach your destination. Be creative with this: if you imagine the place outside your window, imagine opening the window and crawling out it; you could imagine yourself emerging from a dark cave or abandoned building to the place; you could be running down a road, jumping hurdles, to get there.
Keep the jar in your home: under your bed, on your computer desk, anyplace central to your home.

Hello my dears. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. I have been working on creating a simple jar spell to help gather intent and help you reach the goal of your New Years Resolution. Now, I know New Years is not a Wiccan Holiday (Wiccans and other witches choose to celebrate New Years at varying times depending on tradition), but for those of you who choose to celebrate according to the calendar year, please enjoy this little spell!
**I find it easier to have the jar already completed before opening the circle. Just as when you make a wreathe or something that is time consuming, doing it all squatting in the dark by candlelight may be difficult. This, again, is up to you.
What You Will Need:
★ A Jar
★ Whole Bay Leaf (to write your wish/goal. Paper is a fine alternative)
★ A fireproof container to burn your leaf
★ Red Ink (red is to symbolize motivation)
★ An orange or red candle to burn to seal the jar (orange for attraction, or red for motivation)
★ Varying herbs or crystals to fill your jar. I have compiled a short list, which you can find here.
★ A Realistic New Years Resolution (read below).
** When you write your resolution, please keep in mind a few things. First being, always write it as a positive, just as you do when writing a sigil. For example, I will quit smoking as opposed to I won’t smoke. Also, please make your goal realistic. Your goal must be obtainable, something you know in your heart of hearts you will be able to make happen. If you are in need of money your goal may be I will get a job I love…not I will have 1 million dollars in the bank. Maybe someday, but not by the time 2018 rolls around. Many times, people give up on their goals because they set the bar too high.
What You Will Do:
★ 1 – Prepare your jar. Find a nice clean jar that you connect with. I like using mason jars, because I have about 5 billion from all the preserved goods we make. Keep in mind that the bigger it is the more you will need to fill it, though! Once you find your jar, fill it with all of the herbs and stones and other witchy things. You can use flowers, throw in honey to sweeten it up, or even glitter (I know you all love glitter). Make it speak to you.
★ 2 - When your jar is prepared, write your resolution on the bay leaf with your red ink. Remember to make it positive and realistic! When you have it written out, hold it in your hand and meditate. Your resolution is your mantra. Feel it filling you, visualize yourself reaching your goal. You know you can do it! When you feel that time is right, light your bay leaf on fire. Watch it burn, the smoke carrying your wishes to the cosmos, it will become a reality.
★ 3 – When your leaf is finished burning, collect the ashes and sprinkle them in your jar. Tighten your lid and pick your candle. Again, this can be red to motivate, or orange to attract. You could also use a candle that corresponds with your goal. Example: Green for money goals. Pink for love goals. Place your candle on the jar, and light it up. Meditate on your goal some more, try to think about the steps you will take to make it all possible.
★ 4 – When your candle is burned out, you have two options. Burry your jar somewhere on your property, so that you will attract those positive energies into your home. Or, if you are like me and need visual motivation, leave it on your altar or somewhere safe. You can look at it to remind your of your goal and keep you motivated. You can light a new candle on top of it every month to refresh your motivation and commitment. You can give it a shake whenever you feel defeated. Whatever you choose, make sure it works for you.
❤ Happy New Year’s, my loves! I hope yours is happy, healthy, and magickal! ❤
