I really like this photo. The reason is because it depicts how human civilization came to be. Think about it, America, England, Rome, Persia, the Aztecs etc all because strong because they enslaved people, made them suffer and caused pain and built their life off others suffering. This shows somewhat how human nature is..

In this piece we are showen that the boy is representing war. The boy is a skeletal and manourished figer. He has been bonded to weapons from all eras of human history, the industries that drive them as well as the pollution and waste that is bound to follow such endeavors. The very world surrounding him feels his destructive touch, withering and decaying much like the boy has.

He looms over a tiny figure, a young and seemingly carefree girl. The girl in this represents peace, in it’s purest form. The boy who one might speculate, was once much like the girl before he was slowly deformed by the sins of war that his fathers were drenched in? the sins of his fathers? the people who followed the same realgion has him?

We also see that war reaches down to the young girl, holding out the gift of a small flower. This does show that war and peace go hand in hand. That for one to exist so must the other? Perhaps he is her guardian? war must exist so peace can be protected? Oh maybe war is more sinister? He is trying to corrupt the innocence of the child from the start to make them believe that war is right? Maybe the boy sees himself in the girl of how his innocence was taken from him by mind washing? and how he changed because of war?

“Few people outside medicine realize that what tortures doctors most is uncertainty, rather than the fact they often deal with people who are suffering or who are about to die. It is easy enough to let somebody die if one knows beyond doubt that they cannot be saved - if one is a decent doctor one will be sympathetic, but the situation is clear. This is life, and we all have to die sooner or later. It is when I do not know for certain whether I can help or not, or should help or not, that things become so difficult.”

Harith the forest spirit/forest fairy/god of earth/everything inbetween oc!

Finally finished this overdue artwork from last year not my proud piece tbh but I get it out regardless.
Also I can turn it into tarot card, like I did on Voltron fanart long ago.

//Oh when I have time to do my OCs in tarot card style

In my fantasy AU webcomic version, he’s one of Devvas. He’s the Devva (God) of Earth who’s in charge of “beginnings and endings, death and rebirth”.
Dewa or Deva literally means God/deity but put double “v” like Dewa. Thus, Devva.

I think my classmates or the ones who watched my final year project thesis film animation know who’s he; altho he only appears in Prologue, and not in full form of this.

Who Will Live And Who Will Die? A Troubling High Holiday Prayer Every Rosh Hashana we say the prayer

Who Will Live And Who Will Die? A Troubling High Holiday Prayer

Every Rosh Hashana we say the prayer Unsaneh Tokef :

On Rosh Hashanah we’ll be inscribed and on Yom Kippur we’ll be sealed – how many will pass from the earth and how many will be created; who will live and who will die; who will die at his predestined time and who before his time; who by water and who by fire, who by sword, who by beast, who by famine, who by thirst, who by upheaval, who by plague, who by strangling, and who by stoning. Who will rest and who will wander, who will live in harmony and who will be harried, who will enjoy tranquility and who will suffer, who will be impoverished and who will be enriched, who will be degraded and who will be exalted. But Repentance, Prayer, and Charityavert the evil Decree!”

I’ve said this prayer many times in my life, but was never bothered by it until this year. Perhaps it’s because I never considered the meaning behind the words until a couple weeks ago when I saw a video which illustrated it very literally, showing a slew of people suffering like Unsaneh Tokef describes and then concluding with “Repentance, Prayer, and Charity avert the evil Decree.” The video then suggested that the viewer make changes in his life so that next year will be a better one.

I immediately picked up the phone and started dialing the numbers of some of the rabbis I trust most.

The sea ahead of me,
as wide and as deep as my eyes could ever see.
And, right behind me,
lies the city’s biggest cemetery.

Look at me! Says the sea.
I am blue and just as full-of-life as you.
I’m sorry, says I. But I do not want you.
And all I wish is that, one day, I shall cross you.

Turn around! I hear from behind.
You disregard me. Yet, I will never disregard you.
There’s the sea. You can run, you can go through.
As for me, one day, I shall cross you.

I forgot to post this, but here’s my leica reel for class last semester with the theme: It Wasn’t Me, or, You Only Live Twice. A love story that transcends life and death.

Up close front view of a pumpkin carved so that its flesh glows bright orange without being all the way cut through. The image is of a Mesoamerican styled image of a bat, with an open rib cage showing the mexica styled heart. The circular eye is slightly brighter than the rest of its body.

Another side view of the pumpkin carving showing off the left wing, which has three bony fingers and a large hooked thumb.
Front view of the pumpkin carving now glowing bright red from an inside colored light.
Side view and distant view of the red glowing carving to show how bright it is, and the size of the pumpkin. The darkness of the unilluminated countertop on which the pumpkin rests creates and eerie contrast between the red light and black shadows.

CW: death positivity , trans surgery mention ️‍⚧️, and Bats ______________________________

In english and spanish translations of the Mayan legend, Camazotz is often called the “Death Bat” (“Zotz” meaning bat in the k'iche’ language). They are entities of the underworld and symbols of sacrifice, death, and the night.

While there are fearful tales of them in their native culture, it is important to remember that in many cultures - cosmic beings were not altogether viewed through the western lense of “good and evil”. In fact, in many pre-columbian mesoamerican philosophies the primary dichotmomy was Chaos and Order, with the universe existing in the balance between the two. (and as a physics loving person this makes my heart sing )

Camazotz (sometimes said to be one entity that was “he”, or many of a type of entity that were “they”) to me, is a symbol of natural forces embodying Life and Death. To die is to be unwoven, and return to the earth. To live is to be re-ordered from the unwoven universe. To sacrifice… is to give up personal safety or the order of the status quo - and is something I feel has been relevant to many communities in our ongoing fight for Justice. Though what we work for, is a system that does not make us sacrifice ourselves. ✊✊✊️‍⚧️️‍♿

Even to the Mexica (called the “Aztecs” by the spanish), Bats were a symbol of the connection between Life and Death. Order and Disorder. They roost in the underworld (a place that was the womb of humanity) and fly into the celestial heavens. There are many crops and foods that rely on bats indefinitely. And even the fig trees from which the Mexica got their writing paper were planted by bats. Many of Life’s greatest enjoyments were made by bats and yet they are a popular victim of fear…

Point is…

I was REALLY thinking about bats and about my life in general. And yes! this is my Halloween pumpkin. I carved it on Dec. 25th even though I had it since mid October because of my top surgery making it hard to lift or use my arm muscles ️‍⚧️

(I like to think I sacrificed my chesticles, returned them to theChaos, and rebuilt the place my heart rests…)

I wanted to donate the pumpkin to @batworldsanctuary for the bats to snack on (they take donations!), but they can’t take carved ones .
