Chaos: The Void

I’ll be going through the greek pantheon first in order of family tree and then other pantheons later on

image

Chaos was the origin of everything and the very first thing that ever existed. It was a primordial void, which everything was created from including the universe and the Greek Gods. In ancient Greek, Chaos is translated as ‘the gaping void.’

In the beginning, Chaos was a state of random disorder existing in primordial emptiness, and soon later a Cosmic Egg formed in its belly and it hatched producing the first deities into the darkness. Chaos was often thought of to be female, possessing both anthropomorphic and tangible qualities however this interpretation changed as the mythology evolved according to different historians and poets. The far-reaching idea is that Chaos is a space that separates and divides the Earth and the Sky.

And Middle Hand Path.

For witches, a question that can get often asked is what path you’re on,  usually the answers being a Left Hand Path (LHP), Right Hand Path (RHP), Middle Hand Path (MHP) or you simply just say “I don’t know.” If you don’t know what these terms mean, I listed them below and will further explain them. These terms are not void of controversy and bias, however.

The Left Hand Path

The left-hand path is considered to be about the elevation and centrality of the self as well as the rejection of religious authority and societal taboos.

The left-hand path focuses on the strength and will of the practitioner. It downplays the need for intercession by any high power although some may believe that a higher power exists.

Satanism (both LaVeyan and Theistic) and Luciferianism are considered left-hand paths. Followers of Thelema disagree whether it is a left- or right-hand path.

The Right Hand Path

The right-hand path, in the words of left-hand path follower Vexen Crabtree, “concentrate[s] on the symbols of goodness, of the sun, of herd mentality and submission to god(s) and religious authority."

To put it a little more diplomatic, the right-hand path can be thought of as one of dogma, ritual, and a belief in the community and formal structure as well as a higher power. Though each of those can also be found in left-hand path religions, there is less focus on indulging the self in the right-hand path.

The vast majority of religions are considered part of the right-hand path, from Christianity to Wicca.

In my own words…

Usually the left hand path is viewed as “bad” and right viewed as “good.”

With your LHP being demons, Lucifer, Hades, Anubis, satanism, and black magick

And your RHP being angels, Apollo, Archangels, Ra, and white magick

Yin and Yang type situation.

Limitations and Biases

One very large limitation of this terminology is that it is primarily used by followers of the left-hand path. Satanists commonly describe their path as that of the left-hand. However, Christians, Jews, Wiccans, Druids, and the like do not identify themselves as being of the right-hand path. As such, definitions of the right-hand path tend to be phrased in fairly derogatory terms as Crabtree demonstrated.

The Origin

The terms left-hand and right-hand paths in Western occultism is commonly attributed to Theosophy founder Helena Blavatsky, who borrowed the terms from Eastern practices.

The West has a history of associating the ‘right’ with goodness and correctness and the 'left’ with inferiority.

The left side of a shield is known as the sinister side, which is based on the Latin word for "left.” This later became associated with evil and maliciousness.

Middle Hand Path

Both the left hand path and the right hand path can often have extremists and see things in linear shades of black and white if they aren’t looking deeper.

Middle path is about moderation and about having empathy to understand who is next to you. Anything in excess will have a negative effect. While spirituality and occult can be helpful, we need money to buy the clothes we wear, pay the internet we view this on etc.

It’s all about moderation and also seeing things objectively. To view the world in black and white can be rather limiting. Every story changes depending on who tells it.

And my deities and experiences…

So, a lot of you on this platform as well as others have been interested to know my deities, and how I met them and how I worked with them etc. Which my deities are fine with and I asked for permission before hand ofc.

So my take on deity work is that, it’s not dangerous IF you know what you’re doing. If you just became a witch i do not recommend working with deities off the bat, you can worship but don’t work unless you are well versed in a pantheon, even then be careful. I don’t like to control anyone’s path, as long as you aren’t doing close practices when you shouldn’t I really have no problem, everyone’s path is their own. Aphrodite came to me 4 months into my journey.

Now, I’m not going to disclose ALL of my deities, but will disclose the first 4 that came into my life, and how they did so and my experiences with them. Also, you’ll see that I’ll be correcting some past posts, mainly the ones regarding wicca since there’s honestly a lot of debate but after conversing with some wiccans those changes will be made shortly and i’ll try to post as regularly as i can, i am a student so it’ll be irregular but it is what it is. This’ll probably be a multi part post but I will start with my first deity and I love her so much~

Aphrodite

Intro:

Aphrodite, my first deity and goddess, was one of the first to pop up in my spiritual path and she is still with me today and I could not be more grateful for her. She is the goddess of love and beauty and she is married to Ares, God of War.

Description (To Me):

She appeared to me with long strawberry blonde (more red honestly) hair with these huge curls on the bottom, with light eyes, very tall, this gorgeous stola that was white but also kinda blush pink, and she wore a rose flower crown. She is very kind and patient and always understood the circumstances of which I was succumbed to by my family with their Christian views and I do devotional acts for her such as washing my face, self-care + self-love, and anything that promotes love and even dressing up, just make yourself feel good.

How She Came To Me:

Lots of signs, bees, a shit ton of cinnamon in my food when i didnt ask for it to be added, seeing venus above the moon, receiving a silver heart  ring from a friend. Random roses. Clear skin without a care routine. Loads of roses and anything romantic related in my life.

Final Thoughts:

She taught me how to self love and how much of a bad bitch I am, she helped me reclaim my beauty and I think its a luxury her devotees have, I love her, always have always will❤️

Just a daily reminder to drink water, eat food, take your meds and go drink some tea

and may Hermes, protector of travelers, guide you

and as above, so below, so ‘mote it be.

Eliza here with yet another unpopular opinion!

It’s time to retire the phrase “eclectic witch.”

The term has no meaning, if it ever did. All modern witches are pretty much eclectic. Even someone in a straight-up Wiccan coven, Gardnerian or whatnot, could be seen as “eclectic” because Wicca draws from so many different sources.

I’m note even sure if, historically, there’ve been that many magical practitioners you couldn’t call eclectic, even without stretching the term too far. If someone says they’re an eclectic witch, well, it tells you absolutely nothing about what they practice or believe.

I realize other labels (“celestial witch,” “green witch,” “fire witch” etc) are controversial too, but they serve a greater conversational function by actually indicating a bit of what the person does or believes.

Just my two cents on this. I’m not saying I’d judge people for using the term, but it just doesn’t really say much, and I think we’d know each other better if we skipped it. Obviously, do/say what you want, but I just felt like sharing these thoughts!

I respect that opinion! However, I think that “eclectic witch” is still a helpful catch-all for folks who don’t ascribe to a fixed path, even if that path has deviations. For instance, I’m practicing a path that takes heavily from tradcraft, the structure of Neo-Wicca and regular ol Wicca, and Western Esoterica, and my magical and religious philosophies are heavily intermingled but my magical theory takes heavily from Esoterica, and it’s just too much to fit into a Tumblr bio without laying down the foundational pillars of my own practice to every rando who wanders along. (I love you, randos, I just feel like I oughtn’t give a 5-minute speech on my magical beliefs when I could use the catch-all term). I also use it because I am p sure I will get my ass metaphysically kicked by several entities if I include everything in a tumblr bio.

I do know some initiated Wiccans who would balk at being called eclectic, but I think they’re quite attached to the formality of BTW and their respective covens, specifically.

LUCK SPELL

Ingredients:*

1. Water

2. Ground Ginger

3. Ground Cinnamon

4. Ground Cloves

5. Poppy Seeds

6. Green Glitter

7. Beeswax Candle

Instructions:

Fill your jar with water. Pour in the herbs in whatever order you like, add as much as you feel is necessary. Add the glitter. Mentally recite your intent: “I imbue you with luck, prosperity, and good fortune.”

Breathe into the jar. This seals your intent. Plug the jar and shake it up. Seal the jar with a beeswax candle (I got mine at a local organic market, but it shouldn’t be hard to find online). Run the jar through the smoke of the blown-out candle to complete the spell.

{Notes} This spell is to be done on a full moon, at midnight exactly. Be sure to make cakes and ale in preparation for a nice hot meal afterwards.

Cast a circle and cleanse. Recently I have really been enjoying cleansing by sound, so a bell or chimes will do, along with a burning incense. To calm myself for this spell, I make a sweet jasmine moon tea, which I will upload the recipe in my next post.

Light your candle and wait for the candle wax to start dripping. Infuse each ingredient you put into the spell jar with intent and visualization on what you want the spell to specifically do for you. One at a time drop them into the bottle.

“ At moonlight doth be told,

my power shall be bold.

My eyes are shared by the wolves,

my fire is with the foxes in the woods.

Energy bestowed from my higher self,

may turn me into gold.”

You can say any incantation you’d like. Seal the jar with the black candle wax, and set it outside for the night of the full moon. Shake the jar to activate it, and carry it on your person, it can range in size depending on how much of an influence you want.

{ My experiences with this spell }

I personally love this spell on how it makes me feel. Every-time I activated, or redid this spell, someone would make a comment on my appearance that day. The first day was a werewolf, the second, a siren.

Everyday it was a new mystical creature, even though I had done nothing new with my appearance. This spell is very powerful if done right, and will the right energies so make sure you thoroughly cleanse your tools before and after.

Happy casting!

And blessed be ~ Angel…
