I’m FINALLY seeing quad definition after what has felt like forever. (I’m a big baby when it comes to dieting.) But, slow progress is still progress!! And I’m keeping my muscle!!

The key thing you want to focus on for retaining muscle (and not turning skinny-fat) in a caloric deficit is making sure you are prioritizing strength training, getting the proper protein amounts, and being very strategic with your post workout nutrition and recovery.

Your muscles don’t grow in the gym.
They grow while they are recovering.

What happens when your muscles grow? (I’ll give you a hint, you don’t turn into @schwarzenegger *cough* ladies *cough*) your lean body mass increases!!

What happens with more lean body mass?! Higher metabolic rate.
.
Long story longer, growing your muscles helps you lose weight. BINGO.
.
What you put in your body immediately after a workout is just as important as what you put in at the gym. Your body needs a fast absorbing hydrolized whey protein isolate to repair the muscle tears, and a glucose spiking carb source to replenish the glycogen “gas tank”.

If you struggle to hit your protein every day, or if you like delicious overnight oats… This post is for you!!!
This #mealprepsunday (on Tuesday) I decided to not bore you with the same chicken sweet potatoes and veggies (but I will eventually, because I did make them!)
.
I ALWAYS have oatmeal for breakfast, it has so many benefits and keeps me really full in the morning.
BUT, because I eat eggs as well in the mornings.. I end up going into work feeling as full as a balloon.
.
BUT NOT THIS WEEK I’m going to premake my oatmeal and eat it midday as a snack.

ANYWHO, here’s the recipe
-½ cup quick cook oats (uncooked)
-1 tbsp chia seeds
-¼ cup blueberries
-1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk (or your milk of choice) (use @fairlife for the most protein)
-½ scoop protein powder (I use level-1 from @1stphorm because it also keeps me full and it’s the best tasting, most biodegradable protein out there)
A pinch of cinnamon
Vanilla extract
.
Mix it all up in a jar, and throw it in the fridge overnight to eat the next day!!

That’s like asking “dont you get sick of not having to cook every day?”

This week’s meal prep is almost identical to last week’s but I added brussel sprouts.. cause.. every day I wanna be brusselin’

Chicken cooked in the crock pot, sweet potatoes roasted for 30 mins and veggies roasted for 30 mins.
I DO add a sauce of choice every day to my chicken.. and tbh that’s as much variety as I need in a day.

If you are someone who works tomorrow…set yourself up for success. Not failure.

This isnt just about going to the gym. I know a lot of you don’t even go to the gym and that’s OKAY! Motivation isn’t just about pumping iron.
.
Write a schedule. Figure out your goals. What are you going to accomplish this week? Go grocery shopping, prep some snacks or some lunches so you aren’t reaching for a candy bar in the vending machine. Do an extra chore so when you’re exhausted after work tomorrow you can just relax. Organize your makeup so you know where your favorite eye shadow is tomorrow.

Little habits create large successes.

I was SOOOO excited when I found the picture on the left. Literally it was a Snapchat and the text on it was “My hamstrings won’t grow. Calorie deficit problems.”

..
The picture on the left was about a year ago eating maybe 1300 calories and using Herbalife. I think I was 130 lbs at this point.

.
A 6 month long calorie increase period and a lot of hard work later… I FINALLY HAVE HAMSTRINGS. I weighed in at 132 lbs yesterday. (that’s 4 lbs lighter than the peak of my bulk) and I’m steadily losing about half a pound a week. Can’t wait to see what other body love I discover.

.
Getting to know your body and how it reacts to food is really cool guys.

I have NOT taken this challenge aggressively because I know I wouldn’t be able to sustain it. Slow and steady wins the race. I’m still eating a decent amount of calories, I’m not starving, im not doing an hour of cardio a day, I only go to the gym 4 days a week, and I’m not a completely nut case like I was the last time I decided to lose weight
