Spellings: Morrighan, Morrigu, Morrigna

Pantheon:Celtic

Triple Goddess forms: Badb, Morrigan, Nemain, Macha; sisters but also one

Macha Aspect: queen goddess with red hair, sacred land, horses goddess, vengeance Goddess. She reigns down blood and fire in battle. Her husband was a rich landowner/farmer who bragged on her ability to ride horses. A king challenged her to a race when she was almost to term pregnant with twins. She won the race but died in childbirth immediately afterwards. She then cursed nine generations of men to suffer birthing pains during battle (as she died of course).

Badb Aspect:  Battle, destruction, death, rebirth, watcher of the cauldron, banshee, bloodlust, war, war frenzy. She is the aspect that, as a crow, lands on the shoulders of dying soldiers.

Nemain Aspect: Panic, frenzy, venomous, battle, death, destruction, banshee. She is not a confirmed aspect of the Morrigan.

||Edit June 13, 2019: While not confirmed she is heavily associated with The Morrigan. In the story of Cu Chulainn, she helped him before battle, see @witch-of-morrioghain‘s response in the notes please. Also, thank you to them for bringing this to my attention. ||

The Morrigan: She is associated with the Ulster Cycle; This is the one where she offered her love and help in battle to Chuchulain, and he denies her. She then seeks vengeance via shapeshifting. She also appeared to Chuchulain and he catches her stealing one of his cows. Not recognizing her, he insults her and she then turns into a crow and he immediately recognized her. She then prophesied his death in battle. She is also seen as the washer at the Ford, the woman who would wash the bloody clothes of those about to be slain in battle. She is also associated with war, sovreignty and divination.

Morrigan Symbolism-

Another name associated with The Morrigan that could be considered one of the sisters’ names are Anu/Ana/Anand though this is also thought to be another name for Danu

Reminder for Beltane/May Day

Today is Beltane! (or May Day)

An animated pastel scene of a glass of presumably some sort of juice sits on an outdoor table. A hand stirs the beverage with a straw. The setting is likely summer and the sun shines out of view.

There are so many ways for you to celebrate and honor the coming of Summer. You can do divination, plant some herbs/flowers, make some strawberry jam, the world is your oyster!

For anyone who can’t celebrate today or feel like you aren’t doing enough: it’s perfectly okay to hold off on any celebrations until the next day, next week, or even later this month! The world has been really tough these past few years, the Gods, Spirits, and Mother Nature understand that we live in a hectic world and don’t want you to overdo it.

Custom Brigid statue completed!

The customer gave me some photo inspiration from some of Valerie Vargas’ amazing tattoo work - one of a punk Mother Mary - and to make it fit with Brigid’s symbolism. I am absolutely in love and don’t want to give it away!

Hymn to Andraste

Hail Andraste! Through our Lady of Perpetual Victory

and Iceni-made staves may our hopeful minds dream

of her restitution, divined and seized through magical means.

Our Goddess of Redemption uplifts what mortals she can,

training her warriors to wield knowledge of saplings and steel

beyond counting, to break the chains that have bound them.

Even when she is reduced to ashes, her followers pray

for the Shield of Boudica to be reborn from all that remains.

Call to her and she shall embrace you, in her arms lie eternity.

LunarEvent

During the last full moon we held a lunar event and encouraged our members to share content related to what they did for the full moon!

image

One of our admins @the-seidkona-of-polaris shared a photo of her space just before she began shifting it for workings, which included weekly devotional for Hel and a full moon spell work for a client ✨

image

One of our mods @auroras-corner set intentions and did a ritual to banish residual stagnant energy ✨

Many did small but meaningful things like making moon water, cleansing their home or blessing devotional items or divination tools. @manistemple shared their list of full moon ritual ideas. Have a look and get inspired for the next full moon! ✨

Mabon apple twist bread

More mabon goodies!!! This is something I devised while looking at various recipes and having a apples that needed to be used up. I think it turned out fairly well.

7 apples - fertility/abundance

4 cans of pillsbury crescent rolls

1tspVanilla extract- beauty/self love

2tbs Ground nutmeg-prosperity/luck

1tbs Ground cloves-prosperity/good relationships

3tbs Cinnamon-happiness/wealth

½ Crushed Walnuts-protection/empowerment

2/3 cup butter ( used vegan butter but dairy works fine) -tenacity/nurturing

1 cup sugar (preferably brown but white works fine)

Preheat oven to 375 degrees

Dice apples into bite size peices

then add apples, nutmeg, sugar, cloves, butter, cinnamon, and vanilla extract into pan

Keep them on medium until apples are soft.

(My stove was right between 4-3. And

it took 5-10 minutes till they were soft)

Open up the pillyberry dough and take out a single triangle from each one

(This will be used to patch up while we’re the apples break through if your like me and over stuff them)

Take the remaining dough and roll them into four separate balls

Roll out the balls into basically dough lines

Load up each line with the soft apples

Then pull on the sides to fill and create long dough filled apple things

Repeat for each ball of dough using the dough you pulled out to patch wholes along the way

Put non stick stuff into your pan (I just brush mine with olive oil)

Twist two lines of dough into a braid like thing

And repeat with the other two

Then brush over both twists with left over goop from the apples

Sprinkle on the crushed walnuts and bake for 30-35 minutes

Super easy Pumkin Muffins For Mabon

“As he spoke, he paused before a great mound grown over with trees, and around it silver clear in the moonlight were immense stones piled, the remains of an original circle, and there was a dark, low, narrow entrance leading therein. ‘This was my palace. In days past many a one plucked ere the purple flower of magic and the fruit of the tree of life…I am Aengus, men call me the Young. I am the sunlight in the heart, the moonlight in the mind; I am the light at the end of every dream, the voice for ever calling to come away; I am desire beyond joy or tears. Come with me, come with me: I will make you immortal; for my palace opens into the Gardens of the Sun, and there are the fire-fountains which quench the heart’s desire in rapture.”

“But this western Otherworld, if it is what we believe it to be–a poetical picture of the great subjective world–cannot be the realm of any one race of invisible beings to the exclusion of another. In it all alike–gods, Tuatha De Danann, fairies demons, shades, and every sort of disembodied spirits–find their appropriate abode; for though it seems to surround and interpenetrate this planet even as the X-rays interpenetrate matter, it can have no other limits than those of the Universe itself.”

“For when the Sons of Mil, the ancestors of the Irish people, came to Ireland they found the Tuatha De Danann in full possession of the country. The Tuatha De Danann then retired before the invaders, without, however, giving up their sacred island. Assuming invisibility, with the power of at any time reappearing in a human-like form before the children of the Sons of Mil, the People of the Goddess Dana became and are the Fairy-Folk, the Sidhe of Irish mythology and romance.”

Magical Heroes in Celtic Myth

“Kings or great heroes…are very commonly described as being able to shift their own shape, or that of other people…and when this fact is coupled with another, namely the ancient belief that such kings and great heroes were incarnations and reincarnations of the Tuatha De Danann, who form the supreme fairy hierarchy, we realize that, having such an origin, they were simply exercising in human bodies powers which their divine race exercises over men from the fairy world.”

The First Thing Necessary for Magic

“The first thing taught to the [Druid] neophyte was self-control. When he proved himself absolutely his own master, when his teachers were certain that he could not be dominated by another will or by any outside or psychic influence, then for the first time he was permitted to exercise his own iron will in controlling daemons, ghosts, and all the elemental hosts of the air.”

The Legend of the Morgan, Sea Fairy of Brittany

“The Morgan is a fairy eternally young, a virgin seductress whose passion, never satisfied, drives her to despair. Her place of abode is beneath the sea; there she possesses marvelous palaces where gold and diamonds glimmer. Accompanied by other fairies, of whom she is is in some respects the queen, she rises to the surface of the waters in the splendor of her unveiled beauty. By day she slumbers amid the coolness of grottoes, and woe to him who troubles her sleep. By night, she lets herself be lulled by the waves in the neighborhood of the rocks. The sea-foam crystallizes at her touch into precious stones, of whiteness as dazzling as that of her body. By moonlight she moans as she combs her fair hair with a comb of fine gold, and she sings in a harmonious voice a plaintive melody whose charm is irresistible. The sailor who listens to it feels himself drawn toward her, without power to break the charm which drags him onward to his destruction; the bark is broken upon the reefs: the man is in the sea, and the Morgan utters a cry of joy. But the arms of the fairy clasp only a corpse; for at her touch men die, and it is this which causes the despair of the amorous and inviolate Morgan.”

I am interested in finding a way to easily show my pride at being Irish and being queer so made these. I decided to use a shamrock, a Celtic knot and the tri-spiral design from Newgrange. I placed them in the centre, large, but also to the top right, small.

Having made them all I think my favourite is the small tri-spiral but I have queued all six designs up so you can use whichever you like.

If you do use my edit for something please let me know - I’d love to see. Credit however isn’t needed.

This is post two of thirteen.

Nice Things That Happened In 2020

adding a small cw here because I might briefly mention ed/sh habits

2020 has been a really shitty year in a lot of ways, but as someone who tries desperately to find the light in shitty situations, I’ve come to realise a lot of good things happened this year as well.

so I’m going to share them in a list. please feel free to reblog or comment with your own good things that happened in 2020

-got together with my boyfriend, who is the most wonderful person I am lucky to have

-tackled a lot of my trauma from abuse, including sexual trauma which was a really big step for me

-got straight As in my exam (not that I sat the exams, but I put the work in throughout the year) results

-currently have been given two offers to my university choices, one of them being a conditional to Leeds (my top choice) and the other an unconditional to Kent

-stayed clean from self harm for the entire year (648 days so far!)

-150 days clean from purging

-started trying to focus more on doing the things I love again like gaming and art

-started working with/worshipping freyja!

-decided I wanted to start editing my poetry and prepare to self publish

-bought a lot of crystals. a lot. (and i love them all!)

-began learning how to read tarot cards and runestones!

that’s all I can think of at the moment but look how many things there are!

happy new year! I hope for 2021 to be divine!

Tarot Reading

I did a reading for myself tonight, asking some fairly important questions about university.

I’ve applied to 5 universities, and gotten two offers so far from the English unis I applied to. I’m Scottish, so I suppose it’s basically expected of me to go to a Scottish uni for a few reasons but I have a conditional offer for Italian and Japanese at Leeds which is like.. a perfect mix of what I want now and what 10 year old me would fall in love with myself for.

I was applying for Italian and German but found out I needed a Higher German (which I don’t, I have Italian, Spanish, and French) but the university allowed me to switch my choice before they gave me an offer and since I had originally applied to Italian and Japanese (but later changed it to German to fit with my PS) it was some divine sign from the universe.

But I feel as if my mum and my family are trying to pull me closer to home. I’ve had so much pressure to go to a uni closer, even one I could stay at home whilst I study and I just… can’t do that. I want to explore and get out of my comfort zone.

I felt so anxious about my decision, so I decided to do a Celtic Cross spread to help find some clarity.

And boy… would you look at all those Major Arcana cards. In fact, the Ace of Pentacles in itself essentially set out the entire spread. It was a beautifully placed card in this entire spread, along with the King of Swords. In fact, I think all of the cards set themselves into place perfectly and I had very little trouble interpreting it for myself.

I love when things come together like this. It makes me feel so… whole.

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

*do not claim this specific spread for yourself. this reading was personal and tailored for myself. if you would like a reading, please message me and we can discuss pricing.

just because you call yourself an ✨eclectic witch✨ doesn’t mean you have the right to appropriate other cultures, steal from them, and hijack closed practices

This is in reference to Lilith, by the way… who IS closed..

Another so-called ‘eclectic wiccan’ was also weighing in on this conversation telling me Lilith isn’t closed and that her ‘Jewish friends’ and ‘local rabbi’ told her so. Uh huh…

(I’m not Jewish by the way, I just have some Jewish ancestry and have done a bit of research into Jewish witches. I’m not hugely educated on the topic, but I know Lilith is closed and is regularly appropriated by non-Jewish witches. Blogs like @ will-o-the-witch have a lot of info on this )

It’s always the eclectic witches

“An ancient culture I can’t recall rn” okay.

God they get worse

If a deity (I know Lilith isn’t a deity, but I’m just using this for ease and to generalise that this is information can encompass all practices) is part of a closed practice that you are not a part of and cannot BE a part of, such as, say, ‘Voodoo gods’ reaching out to you if you’re white, then I hate to break it to you, but that’s not a deity as part of that culture who is reaching out to you. It’s an entity that is doing this to try and trick you, and if you’re naive enough to believe something that is part of a closed practice you have no right to be in is reaching out to you, then the entity knows that you are naive enough to be hurt easily.

This is why I recommend all ‘baby’ witches and so-called ‘eclectic’ witches do a fair amount of research before worshipping or choosing to work with a deity. Personally, I had signs of Freyja reaching out to me for months before I decided for definite I would worship/work with her. This is because I spent that time researching Freyja, and asking other witches who work with Freyja what their experience is with her. I also asked Sól for guidance in this decision, because I wanted to be absolutely sure that it was Freyja who was sending me signs and reaching out to me, rather than an entity pretending to be Freyja who had the intent of hurting me.

TL;DR: if you are not Jewish and Lilith is ‘reaching out to you’ or you are communicating with Lilith, it’s not actually Lilith. You are being played.

Do more research.
