What Does It Mean To Think Catastrophically & Mindfulness Techniques To Help Overcome It

Catastrophic thinking is a type of irrational thinking, which is very common in people who suffer from anxiety disorders such as social anxiety disorder, avoidant personality disorder, generalised anxiety disorder, OCD, panic attacks and PTSD. This type of thinking usually has continuous thoughts about the future in a very negative way. These thoughts are usually what I call ‘What if?’ thoughts, and its these types of thoughts that lead to fear, dread, worry and distress. The main reason why many people with anxiety think this way is because they have a severe phobia of the unknown and what will happen to them in the future.

Psychologically speaking, these thoughts are just in our imagination from stored images from previous experiences such as traumas from our past. This is called fragmentation. After witnessing a trauma, our brains store the experience into images, which will be placed into our subconscious mind. This is the reason why some thoughts may come up and not make any sense to you or the people around you at all. Sometimes these distressing thoughts can come up in dreams and that is why many patients with PTSD and C-PTSD often have nightmares and night terrors.

However, there is a way of overcoming and healing from this dysfunctional type of thinking. Living in the present moment is the best way to heal from catastrophic thinking. This is because it gets you in tune with what is going on right now, at this moment in time - not yesterday, not tomorrow or in five or ten years from now. Knowing that you or your loved ones are completely safe at this very moment is a very good tool to use to stop disastrous thinking. Being here in the present, listening to your breath and being mindful of your thoughts and feelings will help with any kind of anxiety disorder.

As someone who has suffered from severe anxiety in the past, I have realised from my own experience that a lot of it stems from a lack of trust towards ourselves and others. When we lack trust, we start looking for reassurance and whether not we are making the right decision or not, and continuously ask for advice leading to frustration and even more doubt. This is why learning and allowing yourself to fully surrender and let go in a state of anxiety is important part of the healing process. I have previously written about trust and surrender here on this blog, if you want to read those.

Anxiety Visualisation Exercise

Close your eyes and imagine yourself sitting in the eye of a storm, the calm centre that lies behind the chaos that is going around it. You see pieces of debris floating around of all different sizes, which represent the thoughts you carry with you. Observe them and look at what they are showing to you, like you are watching a movie. You know that you are completely safe and serene in this eye of a storm and you know that it will not hurt you. Suddenly, you begin to see the storm move swiftly across, taking all of your negative thoughts with it. You feel a sense of deep peace and emotional freedom, like someone has taken a heavy bag off of your shoulders. You stand up and begin to walk towards the sun that is shining in between the clouds smiling, feeling liberated and full of joy. When you have finished this visualisation exercise, open your eyes.

Energetically Stuck? 4 Reasons Why The Law of Attraction Hasn’t Worked For You

In the spiritual community, we have all come across the philosophical concept behind the Law of Attraction; whether we have used it or not. The majority of us have, I have to say for one thing or another. Most of the time, we use the Law of Attraction to help us find a solution to problem or current situation - whether that may be. This is where the problem lies when it comes to manifestation. We often use the Law of Attraction in times of desperation, such as a lack of money, loss of a partner or job. When it comes to using the Law of Attraction, you have to remember that the universe acts like a mirror; so whatever perception you have of a particular situation - you will receive it whether it is positive or negative in nature.

You often find that many people who use this concept usually ask for abundance or their soulmate without doing the pre-requisites beforehand. This means on a soul and energetic level, you must clear away any negative beliefs and deep rooted fears that reside in your subconscious mind. Negative thoughts and beliefs can creep up into our conscious mind at any point, and they can be about anything that has happened to us. Most of the time, they are negative memories that have been stored into our brain over a period of time. This is known as our inner critic - the root of fear, low self-confidence and self-sabotage.

Our ego and wounded child use this tactic to keep us in our comfort zone and safe place. However, it doesn’t serve us when it comes to attracting positive things to our lives. Having fear when you are manifesting, is like starving a flame from having oxygen - it just doesn’t work. You need to feed your subconscious mind with positive thoughts before you begin to start manifesting things into your life. However, this can take a while especially if you have had a difficult past and sometimes it may require the assistance of a professional.

Here are the four main reasons why the Law of Attraction hasn’t worked for you:

1. Using the Law of Attraction out of desperation

As I have just mentioned before, the universe works like a mirror, so when you try to manifest something out of pure desperation; what you desire will become further and further away. This is because the feeling of desperation comes from the essence of fear and control. When we become desperate; we are afraid of losing someone or something out of fear, so we try chase the energetic flow, only to eventually find out that its not going to come into fruition. It is a bit like trying to chase an optical illusion; like a rainbow for instance. It just doesn’t work at all on an energetic level.

Law of Attraction Hack #1:

Instead of chasing and being desperate for positive changes, you must remember that you must surrender to the flow of life. When you let go of control and fear, you will become much more lighter and happier, which in the long term will help you attract the things that you truly desire in your life. It’s like what the old saying always says: “Things come into your life when you least expect them”. So surrender to the flow of life and you will begin to see more abundance happening around you.

2. Expecting what you desire to come to you on a plate without physically pursuing it in the real world

This is like asking the universe to give someone their dream job or romantic partner and expecting it to be on their doorstep. In the real world, it just doesn’t work like that unfortunately. You have to do the dirty work first, so that you can receive what you desire. This is particularly the case when it comes to finding the ideal partner. We would rather daydream about them instead of physically going through the dating process because deep down, we find it too overwhelming and stressful.

Law of Attraction Hack #2:

Get out there! Let yourself been seen and heard! Do not be afraid or fearful about what you are doing! See it as a positive step forward to where you want to be in your life and within yourself. Whether that is finding a new home, job or relationship - whatever it maybe, make yourself known!

3. Being far too specific and unrealistic about what you want from the universe

In some ways, I do think having expectations to some degree or another is a good thing. However, when it comes to manifesting, we can get carried away with the little details instead of focusing on the most important parts. This is very common especially when you want to ask the universe for a lover or a dream home. Remember that perfection doesn’t exist. See the beauty in the imperfections and let go of unrealistic high expectations you may have of yourself and the universe around you. Nothing in this world is perfect.

Law of Attraction Hack #3:

Write down your top five most important qualities, policies, values or traits you desire in a person or in a company you wish to work for. You can even use this method to help you manifest your dream family home too. By doing it this way, you don’t overthink and stress over what you desire - you just let go and allow yourself to trust the universe. Simplicity is always the best method when it comes to using the Law of Attraction.

4. Having negative thoughts or self-doubt when manifesting

Much like desperation, having negative thoughts and beliefs when you want to attract something into your life will instantly prevent you from receiving it from the universe. Negative energy and self-doubt do not serve you any purpose - all it leads to is anxiety, stress and depression. When you the universe that you subconsciously do not believe you deserve what you desire; you are basically telling it not to manifest it in the real world. Let go of your ego and have faith and trust in the universe. You derserve to have what you want in your life which will make you happy.

Law of Attraction Hack #4:

This is most probably the most challenging hacks on this list so far, as this requires continuous effort to undo the negative beliefs and thoughts that have been ingrained into us when we were children. Healing from these dysfunctional thought patterns can take time and sometimes requires a professional. There are numerous self-hypnosis sessions on YouTube which you can try for free. When it comes to healing from negative beliefs and past traumas, you want to heal your inner child. This is the centre of your insecurities, fear and doubt. Once you heal from your past, you will begin to attract the things that vibrate on the same level as you.

A money altar is an altar dedicated specifically to money matters. You can have altar for any area of your life that you want or are prioritizing right now, for example many people have love altars if they are trying to attract new love or are looking to sustain a long term relationship. Since money is at the center of my life right now, stacking it, playing with it, spending it, earning it, It’s a perfect time to share it with you here.

There is a lot of money spells out there and a lot of them work, but attracting more money into your life and living differently because of that money is about building a relationship with money.

Trusting money, loving money and knowing money loves you. People who don’t trust money think that its always running out, it doesn’t grow on trees, there’s always more month than money, and that they can’t rise into a new financial situation. Those kind of thoughts make it harder to attract and keep more money.

Building a money altar allows you to start a relationship with money. At my money altar I simply started with $5 and a white candle, and everyday (mostly) I would light the candle, and touch the money. I felt its energy and I visualized having more of it. I’m currently building a new altar since I moved (pics to come).

Things you can add to a money altar:

  • Real money- $1, $5, $10, $20, $100, whatever you have and whatever makes you feel comfortable to start with. Not only does putting real money on the altar bring the energy it is an act of trust. I’ve been there where $5 is a lot of money to put on a table and not spend but it is crucial you put real money here.
  • Crystals- My favorite money stone is malachite but I also included rose quartz on my altar because for me money is tied to my self worth and rose quartz helps with it. You can use any money drawing stones (like a lodestone!)
  • A honey jar- If you’ve made a honey jar for anything money related putting it on your money altar is a great idea! It will help keep it charged and bring more energy to the space.
  • Candles- Everybody knows I loveeee my candles so its a must for me. Flames add energy for me so having them there is crucial.
  • Money herbs- patchouli, cinnamon, bay leaves, all spice, orange peels, basil, any herbs that you would use for attracting money.

Things to do at a money altar:

  • Visualize- Visualization is huge part of my spell casting and life in general. If I can see it my mind then I can feel it in my body and then I can actually get my head around it and call it in. All my spells start by imagining it already done
  • Journal- I’m a writer so words are important to me and can move me through a situation quickly. If i’m feeling freaked out about money or I don’t know how I’m gonna pay X instead of freaking out I write about it at the altar. Writing about it makes me feel better and releases those negative emotions and keeps me from constantly thinking “is this even working?” I tell clients this all the time, things come to you easier if you are detached and certain of the outcome.
  • Money spells/petitions- I do money spells, and write petitions for things I need at the altar. I ONLY do my own spells here. I have a little box or area I keep petitions in and trust that those issues are being handled.

Having a relationship with money is like having a relationship with anything else. Would you constantly question if your partner was gonna run out on you and leave you with nothing? (hopefully not) So the goal is to not do this with money. Building a relationship with money has been life changing for me, and while you can do this many ways, building an altar has really helped me. An altar is something that holds a lot of energy in one place so having a specific altar for money has solved issues and built my trust with money faster.

A reminder that I still have a spot left for mentoring. In mentoring we work on whatever it is you want to work on attracting into your life. New love, money, new job, a business, whatever it is, I am an expert on how to become a magnet for things you want and call them into your life. This is offer is NOT hoodoo specific and open to anyone of any background but if you do practice I will happily infuse that into our lessons. For more info DM me, this is a time sensitive offer.

I hope this helped ya’ll, happy casting!

#MondayMotivation  #LifeLessons

1.  Listen.  Listen .. listen.. listen.  Even when you don’t agree, or when you firmly believe that the other person is talking utter nonsense.  There may still be something to learn.  So listen.

2.  Never be ashamed to say “ I don’t know this” or “I never knew that.”  Truth and vulnerability helps manage expectations, and make you more approachable.  It shows you’re human.

3.  Show respecttoeveryone.  Everyone.  The janitor, the mail room clerk, the maintenance worker.  They see everything and know everything. They could probably run the whole outfit if given the opportunity.

4.  Choose to see another person’s perspective. It may be a horribly crappy perspective but it helps explain what motivates them, and that’s important when it comes to understanding, working with, and/or managing personnel.  No one says you have to agree.  Insight is what is key.

5.  Know when to end it.  Not every battle is worth fighting. Not every problem requires a perfect solution… or any solution.  You don’t need everyone on-board.  Know when to disengage and let go.

6.  To thine own self be true.  Know who you are and what you stand for. When push comes to shove and you are dealing with a crisis, you will default to who you are at the core. Worse thing is to be shocked by your own short comings. Know yourself.

7.  Don’t be afraid to speak up, or stand up for what you think is right. Even if you’re the only one standing at the time.  Have integrity.

8.  Don’t let excellent get in the way of good enough. This is so important.  If you do you will achieve nothing, deliver nothing, and fail at everything, leaving a trail of incompletes in your wake. This is the difference between doers and dreamers.  Don’t condemn yourself to living in a world of extremes where something is either perfect or not done at all.

And lastly…

9.  Finish strong.  Finish weak.  Finish tired.  Finish slow.  Finish fast.  Finish however you must, but whatever you do, don’t quit…. Finish.

I thought watching Return to Me on the TV Guide channel was my low point.  But maybe not… If I seek life coaching from Randy Spelling, would that be considered rock bottom or completely amazing? http://randyspelling.com/

Maybe I’d be better off with psychotherapy from Carol Potter? http://www.carolpotter.net/

I think I need to make some appointments.  Yes, Carol, I need some assistance for my obsession with a canceled TV show. And I find it interesting that Randy Spelling sells crystals - much like the crystal Iris McKay gave Brenda when Dylan dumped her for Kelly.
