LIVE

Today i cracked open this magnum of Valentina : my favourite hot sauce for eggs/ breakfast!

Egg sandwiches are so fucking good, as long as the bread has got some grains in it.

I kept trying to post these lunches from last week but my phone kept shitting the bed!

I had my 5 grain salad every day with a variety of other snacks to keep me going for my whole work day!

I have no idea what I’m going to be eating for work lunch this week but I better figure it out fast!

5 Grain blend, cucumber, red pepper, tomato, and feta.

Sauce is a bit of olive oil, a bit of feta brine, Greek seasoning, and a touch of lemon pepper.

This recipe was made by a friend of mine over Christmas holiday and I really enjoyed it, so I’m excited to be able to have it for lunch this upcoming week.

Work lunch of cucumbers, strawberries, rice crackers, banana, cheese, olives, and leftover farmer sausage.

Featuring my critters hopping around as I try to take my photos they were too cute to crop out!

I’ve been physically ill for the past week but I feel like I may be starting to feel a bit better, slowly but surely. Today I am apprenticing so hopefully everything goes well!

Friday lunch box vibes

Many different kinds of cheeses with some kielbasa, olives, pickles, and rice crackers.

I really love the texture and crunch of rice crackers and have always enjoyed snacking on them. I find them very salty and tasty!

yogurt with granola and bran and a leftover turkey sandwich.

my life has been weirdly chaotic, my BPD has been a rollercoaster.

I’m sorry for being absent

I did end up ordering myself some lunch yesterday- Vietnamese vermicelli bowl with BBQ pork. I did really enjoy this, I didn’t feel ill after eating it and the sauce was enjoyable. The only heavy part of this meal was the meat.

I wish they had a vegetarian or at least a tofu option. I am not a vegetarian, however meatless meals are a preference of mine 90% of the time. I find meals without meat are much more gentle on my guts and digestion!

All Goth no Health

I didn’t get the opportunity to grocery shop this week so this is what my meal looks like- everything I had hanging around the house that was on the go edible.

Yogurt and bran, cinnamon toast crunch and oat milk, and a Reese’s bat.

Today is going to have quite a bit of sugar, I think I’ll likely order something else to have today, perhaps a smoothie or salad!

I’m Canadian, and we don’t have Trader Joe’s, so this is a new experience for me, but when I spent the night with Ruby I was introduced to this spice blend in the morning and Woah, I think my life may be changed forever.

This blend is delicious on toast. I had it just on toast with some margarine and I’m truly shocked, I can’t wait to try it on fried eggs and hard boiled eggs!

American followers : what do you like to put this spice blend on?

Breakfast on a sunny fall Monday!

This week is hopefully going to be a good one, tonight I’m spending the night with my dear friend and fellow artist Ruby where hopefully we’ll make art and watch movies and have a really nice time!

Egg sandwich with yogurt and bran ✌

recent meals I forgot to post!

Monday I wasn’t feeling the greatest emotionally so I decided to slip into something comfortable and easy to prepare, which ended up being chicken noodle soup ( yes the Liptons kind from a package, we all have our weird food loves ) and two small grilled cheese sandwiches. I enjoyed this meal and it ended up being the only thing I ate Monday, I really truly was so emotionally checked out that this was all I could handle.

The other forgotten meal is actually last Friday’s lunch!

it’s almost the same lunch! but this one is a bit different.

I’m so excited that today is Friday. I’m going to be without my favorite coworker at work today because she’s super sick, which is a bummer, but at least it’s Friday and then I have my weekend to really catch up on some sleep!

what are you looking forward to this weekend?

I’m very into pasta salad these past two weeks, next week I’m going to mix it up and have something else but right now this has been a good lunch.

This one I made with tortellini, with some peppers and strawberries, some matcha alligators from Squish for a little sweet treat, my life’s blood - double bergamot, and a banana.

Yesterday was a really tough day emotionally. I couldn’t find myself invested in anything that went on, and I couldn’t really bring my energy levels up.

Today I’m running our Curse of Strahd D&D campaign for the first time in a couple months. I’ve been emotionally seperated from it for a while so it’s intimidating to start up again, but all I can do is my best.

I haven’t been feeling well the past few days.

Barely sleeping, barely eating, general unwellness.

I made this lunch for myself yesterday and didn’t end up touching much of it due to feeling so unwell so that is both yesterday’s lunch and today’s.

Please note this is not a good example of proper eating and this is not a frequent pattern for me, but being honest about food here is important to me. People should be eating everyday and I stand behind that, but illness and sickness will impact that for sure.

Grocery Day!

Tuesdays are my last day off before my work week, being a piercer means my hours and weeks are a bit strange, but it’s nice to not have to get up before 9am!

I’ve never been a morning person, I find it very easy most days to intermediately fast between 9pm and noon, is a 14 hour fast enough? Maybe I should google it

I hate spending money but I do love grocery shopping. I find a lot of fun and comfort, especially doing it on a weekday afternoon when things are quieter, in picking foods for my next week or two, trying to mix and match fruits and veggies for my lunchboxes and explore new recipes.

All the cucumbers and tomatoes are home grown by my mother, and the squash are from the local farmers market, I even decided to pick up some kiwi, which I basically never eat. Here’s to trying new things

For breakfast/lunch yesterday I had yogurt, granola, and bran buds, along with some double bergamot Earl Grey and a toasted tomato sandwich. I really love fall for all the apples and tomatoes I get to enjoy from our yard.

What are you eating this week?

Health Goth Update:

i’m going to work on getting back into daily posts starting tomorrow (with today’s meals).

Yes i have been struggling a great deal mentally, and yes that has translated into my eating- but i feel ready to get back on top of things:

why? because of your messages.

Some of your fellow Health Goths have sent me some incredibly kind, meaningful messages about how this blog has helped or inspired them- so if that’s the case, i better step up and keep up, right?

I am so grateful to all of you for participating in this blog and coming along for this ride with me.

Like Dracula, over and over, Heath Goth will be revived.

ps this is pumpkin pie icecream and it’s insane.

Sweet potato brownies

Recipe:

- 330g sweet potato puree

- 2 ripe bananas (mashed)

- 100g oat flour

- 50g almond flour

- 4 tbsp cacao powder

- 100g apple sauce

- 1 tbsp coconut oil

- 50g date syrup (or maple syrup)

- 1,5 tsp baking powder

➡️ To make the sweet potato puree, peel and cut 1 sweet potato into chunks. Cook them in water for 20 minutes. Rinse and let cool. Place them in a blender or food processor and blend until smooth.

Preheat oven to 180°C upper/lower heat.

Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Grease a baking dish (21 x 21cm) with oil (I used coconut oil), pour in the batter, and spread into an even layer using a spatula.

Bake for 40 minutes.

.The Miller & Carter Steak Experience | Mailbox, Birmingham.

Last weekend I was invited along to Miller & Carter in the Mailbox to test out their Steak Experience and having never been before I didn’t realise I’d been missing out on such a gem of a restaurant. Miller & Carter have numerous restaurants across the country all boasting a fine selection of steaks and grills to satisfy any diner and a very impressive drinks menu to boot. We chose the Birmingham branch on the top level of the stylish Mailboxcomplexone beautifully warm and a sunny August Sunday and it turned out to be the perfect afternoon thanks to impeccable service, irresistible wine and incredible food.

We wandered into the restaurant a little earlier than our booked table after a lovely glass of Veuve in Bar Epernay below and were greeted by friendly obliging staff who showed us to a big table by the window straight away and allowed us to look through the giant Miller & Carter menus. There was so much choice we ordered some drinks while we were looking through from their impressive and reasonably priced wine list and well stocked bar – an iced cold Peroni for him, a large Chilean Sauvignon for me (£4.30). The starters looked too good to resist so we both dove straight in with Lemongrass & Chilli Tempura King Prawns (£6.95) and the Bourbon Glazed Belly Pork Bites (£5.95) which were just the right size and incredibly moreish, especially those crispy prawns with chilli jam.

Onto the main attraction….

We both ordered the 12oz Ribeye off the bone (£19.95), one medium and one medium rare and I was incredibly pleased to see that both of the steaks came exactly as ordered. On the menu Miller & Carter suggest how to have each steak cooked for maximum enjoyment but I went one below (because I’m such a foodie rebel) and it was melt in the mouth delicious, but I have to say I think they were spot on with their medium recommendation after tasting Joe’s. Each steak comes with an iceberg lettuce bowl and a choice of dressings which is a nice touch. I went for the Bacon & Honey Mustard dressing and even though I’m not an iceberg lettuce fan it was a welcome addition that i really enjoyed! Your steak also comes with a bowl of delicious chips, seriously delicious chips that were crispy, salty and fluffy in the middle – perfectly cut and so moreish – and a slab of onion loaf, oh the onion loaf! I will be dreaming about that onion loaf for weeks, it was a scrumptious potatoey oniony side that I never knew existed -  i will now be devastated if any steak I order in the future doesn’t come with it…do not miss out on the onion loaf! I ordered a Half Lobster Tail to go along with my steak (£5.75) and it was a delicious little addition to my plate – definitely worth adding onto your order – and a blue cheese butter that melted through my ribeye leaving me in cheesy, meaty, buttery heaven. Highly recommended.

For our mains we moved onto the red wine(an essential with a good steak in my eyes) and the Miller & Carter menu even helps you pick your wine based on the steak you’ve ordered – a lovely touch. Our waitress Becca however had an excellent knowledge of wine and helped us choose two similar wines to complement our mains with Joe opting for a slightly lighter Australian Shiraz (£8.25) and myself choosing a deep a fruity Spanish Rioja (£7.60) both of which paired perfectly with our steaks and they went down very, very well.

Pudding time, and as we were both about ready to burst we opted for a Tasting Plate to share (£8.95) consisting of a selection of White Chocolate & Pistachio Iced Parfait, a delectable Warm Chocolate Brownie,Sticky Toffee PuddingandVanilla Bean Ice Cream. It was to die for. We asked Becca for 15 minutes to finish off our wine before ordering two perfectly balanced Irish Coffees to finish off our meal on the balcony overlooking the canal and we were two very happy, very full little bunnies.

I can’t believe i’d never stepped foot in a Miller & Carter restaurant before but I’d go back in a heartbeat. It’s the perfect place that would suit any party - a date night, family meal or a night with friends and isn’t going to break the bank either. We had a wonderful afternoon and I can’t wait to visit again – I’m heading straight for the cocktail menu next time!

You can take a look at the whole menu and book a table for the mailbox on the Miller & Carter website here.
